    What Is a Private Family-Friendly Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Kyoto and are currently based in Asia, having originally come from North America. Next June, after a school graduation, they plan to return to their home region. Since it was the special public opening period of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, I recommended it, and they decided to go. It was wonderful that we could see the Shishinden Hall up close and even view the interior. In line with the public opening, there was a performance of gagaku court music and dance. Because we spent a lot of time at Fushimi Inari Shrine, we did not make it in time for the 10:00 start, so we watched the 11:00 performance, but even to me the music and dance themselves lacked impact, and the guests did not seem very interested. After lunch things settled down, so I was able to guide calmly. The photo was taken near Yasaka Pagoda.

    What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like for International Guests? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. After an 11-day cruise, they planned to stay in Tokyo before returning home. They were very healthy and active, and for lunch they chose egg sandwiches from a convenience store to save time. We shared many common interests, and the conversation was very lively. They had a deep interest in culture and history, and when I gave them my chronological timeline chart summarized on A3 paper, they thanked me and said they wanted to study it carefully. At Meiji Shrine, we happened to encounter a first-visit ceremony for a newborn, and they were delighted to be able to take a photo together. They gave me a private contact card and said that if I ever came near their area, I should be sure to get in touch, and I finished my work at Shibuya Station.

    Title: What Is a Private Autumn Foliage Tour in Japan Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for sightseeing. All prior communication and coordination were arranged through one member of the group. Some of the guests had visited Japan about twenty years earlier and had been very much looking forward to this trip to Japan. They were on a short one-week trip to Japan timed for the autumn foliage season during a holiday. On the day of the tour, in complete contrast to the heavy rain of the previous day, the weather turned out to be ideal, mostly sunny with occasional clouds. Because we used a private vehicle in consideration of the fact that one of the guests could not walk for long periods, travel between destinations went smoothly. However, as full autumn foliage came into view at every stop, the guests became absorbed in taking photographs, and the schedule often did not proceed exactly as planned. Even so, the guests listened attentively to my explanations at key points, and it seemed they were able to fully enjoy the vibrant natural scenery while also appreciating the history and culture.

    Title: What Is a Private Day Trip from Tokyo to Nikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, both visiting Japan for the first time. They arrived at Haneda the previous evening and took a taxi to their hotel. In the evening, they enjoyed sushi in Ginza. They planned to stay in Japan for a while. From the following day, they intended to visit Hakone, and then travel through Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima, before returning to Tokyo and heading home. Their wish was to "visit as many different places in Japan as possible." It was a tour under clear skies. Nikko, as expected, was cooler than Tokyo, and the tour took place in weather that felt almost cold. We traveled both ways on the "Revaty Kegon" limited express (the train was full on both trips). On the train, I explained topics such as "the history of Japan and of Edo/Tokyo," "Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Tokugawa shogunate," "the history of Nikko Toshogu," "national isolation (sakoku)," "the Meiji Restoration," and "sankin-kotai (alternate attendance)." After arriving at Tobu Nikko Station, I checked traffic conditions at the tourist information center. I was told that "the Irohazaka road is not very congested," so we first took a bus to Kegon Falls. The comment was, "It's spectacular. It's a different scene from Niagara, and very interesting." After this, we returned to central Nikko and first visited "Tamozawa Imperial Villa." (The guest was interested in "Japanese houses" and "Japanese gardens.") We toured the villa slowly and carefully, and the guests remarked, "The construction of the ceilings and the fusuma sliding doors is wonderful." After this, we took a bus to the entrance of the West Approach. First, we had a soba lunch at the "Fujiya Tourist Center." After that, we first went to Futarasan Shrine and Taiyuin. I explained "the differences between Buddhism and Shinto" and "the Japanese view of religion." There were questions such as, "What are torii gates for?", "What kind of religion is Shinto? How does it differ from Buddhism?", and "Why is the five-story pagoda built?" (The distinction between Buddhism and Shinto was rather difficult to convey.) We then continued on to Toshogu and Rinnoji, taking photos enthusiastically in many spots. As for the "Three Wise Monkeys" and the "Sleeping Cat," the guests already knew the stories behind them. At the Shinkyo Bridge, there were comments and questions such as, "The flow of the river is beautiful and clear," and "Does this river flow from Kegon Falls?" They also said, "I would have liked to visit Lake Chuzenji as well." There were comments such as, "Everywhere in Japan is clean and tidy. There's no litter on the ground," "There are no homeless people," and "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant." They also said, "Next time I come to Japan, rather than tourist spots, I'd like to go somewhere I can see the ordinary daily life of Japanese people." After returning to Tokyo, I saw them off at Higashi-Ginza Station, and we parted ways.

    As a recent group travel record, in October 2023, we have a track record of guiding a group of 33 people from Singapore to Narita Airport transfer plus sightseeing in Tokyo.
    Self-introduction:
    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity.     Can You Do a Private Toyosu Fish Market and Tsukiji Morning Tour in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They had already traveled to Kyoto, Osaka, and Lake Kawaguchi, arriving in Tokyo the previous day, with plans to stay in Tokyo for another five days. They watched the tuna auction with great interest while listening to my explanations, staying until just after 6:30 when the bluefin tuna auction concluded. Since they wished to skip the wholesale and produce buildings and enjoy some street food, we moved on to Tsukiji. On the rooftop of the fish market building in Tsukiji, while looking at the former market site, I explained the background of the relocation to Toyosu. At the outer market, in front of a famous sushi restaurant, they compared the flavors of fatty tuna belly, medium-fatty tuna, and lean tuna, enjoyed a strawberry daifuku, ate rolled omelette, and sampled and purchased a wasabi seasoning. Since they had not hired a guide until the previous day, at the temple I gave a lecture on Japanese history and religion, as well as how to spend their remaining five days in Tokyo. As they had a 9:30 reservation at TeamLab Planets, I stayed with them until 8:45, then saw them into a taxi and we parted ways.

They requested to visit as many places as possible, even if only for a short time at each. The rain from the previous night had cleared, and the tour took place in weather that was almost hot. First, following their wishes, we headed to Tsukiji. We visited the Tsukiji Outer Market. Although it was a closed day, there was a large crowd. I explained the history of the fish market dating back to the Edo period, and the difference between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market. We browsed various shops, and they bought and sampled tuna sushi and scallops. They asked, "Why are there so many people here?" and "Do all Tokyo residents come here to buy fish?" We moved on to the Imperial Palace. I explained the transition from the Edo period to the Meiji era, the Meiji Restoration, why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace, and the current challenges facing the Imperial Family. They remarked that the pine trees were beautiful, and asked whether the Emperor really lives inside. We moved to Harajuku. At Meiji Shrine, I again explained the Meiji Restoration, Emperor Meiji, and why wine barrels are displayed there. They said it was wonderful to have such a green place in the middle of the city and that it felt refreshing. We encountered a wedding procession, and they mentioned they were interested in weddings in Japan, as they plan to hold a wedding next spring. After this, we strolled along Takeshita Street and Cat Street. They said they were interested in vintage clothing and would come back again the day after next. We moved to Shibuya. As they said they were hungry and wanted to have sushi for lunch, we went to a sushi restaurant in Shibuya. They said it was far fresher and more delicious than the sushi they eat back home, and cheaper too. We experienced the Scramble Crossing. They asked, "Why are there so many people? Are they Japanese, or are they tourists?" As they wanted to buy their bullet train tickets for Osaka the next day, we went to the ticket office. They also commented, "Is it safe to walk around town at night?" "Everyone in Japan is polite." "Why are there no trash bins?" "The subway seems very well made, but it is hard to understand." "Back home, homelessness has increased and public safety has worsened. The streets are full of trash and graffiti and are dirty. Japan is truly clean." I saw them off at Kinshicho Station, where we parted ways.

    Title: What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toshogu and Taiyuin The guests missed a connection at Kita-Senju, which delayed our meeting. In addition, at the guests' request, the meeting point was changed from Tobu-Nikko Station to Shimo-Imaichi Station. Because the meeting and the start of the tour were delayed by about an hour, we were unable to enter Sanbutsudo Hall to view its three Buddhist statues as originally planned. However, thanks to the guests' cooperation—walking quickly and shortening the meal time—I believe they thoroughly enjoyed Toshogu Shrine and Taiyuin Mausoleum. One of the guests had read up on Nikko in advance and asked a rapid series of questions, which made for a demanding but very rewarding guiding experience. I was able to answer most questions, and when I did not know something I said so honestly; the guests did not take offense and kindly rephrased their questions, which I felt considerate of them. Since I heard this was the last day of their trip in Japan, I took special care to make sure no bad memories remained. That said, the complexity of arranging Tobu train tickets is confusing even for Japanese people who are not used to it (the guests appeared quite frustrated by it), so I stayed with them until I could confirm with a Tobu Railway staff member that they would be able to board their train. This seemed to please them, and I am glad about that.

By the time we reached Kinkaku-ji, the sun came out, and the guests were moved by its shining beauty. At Fushimi Inari, as usual, they walked through the torii gates taking photo after photo.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Without Temples or Arashiyama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Based on our email exchange before the tour, the guests requested to visit places other than shrines, temples, and Arashiyama, so I planned the route accordingly. Since it was the guests' first visit to Kyoto, they seemed very much looking forward to this tour. One of the guests seemed to enjoy Japanese history, and the group also appeared to like Nijo Castle and the Kyoto Imperial Palace. At the Kyoto Imperial Palace, we happened to be able to see gagaku (traditional court music), which they were delighted about. Next, at Nishiki Market, we ate tempura. Since they had never tried takoyaki before, I treated them to some, and they were very pleased. In the Higashiyama area, we walked around the Yasaka Pagoda, Sannenzaka, and Ninenzaka, and since one of the guests' family members liked Ghibli, we went into a Ghibli shop where they did various shopping. Afterward, while I was guiding them through Gion and talking about the geisha districts, maiko, and geiko, we were even able to encounter a maiko, which delighted them. As it was past 3:00 p.m., we parted ways here. The guests planned to stroll around this area afterward, and I was glad that they seemed to have enjoyed this tour.

    Hiro in Japanese means large or big. Although I’m neither large nor big, you can call me Hiro. How are you doing ?
    I lived in a city nearby Kobe city. Do you know Kobe ? Kobe is famous for Kobe beef and pearl. If you have not yet had Kobe beef, you should taste the authentic Kobe beef. It is very satisfying taste. But I have recently moved to a city in Kyoto prefecture, so I can be in Kyoto city in about one hour. By the way, I am a family of four. I have a son and a daughter. My son now works in Tokyo. I sometimes go to Tokyo to see him. Tokyo is a huge city, but too crowded, so it seems not to suit me. I seem to be better suited to a small city than a big one. Where do you live in ? How many families do you have ? If you like, please tell me about them. I worked in the quality assurance department of a pharmaceutical company and visited the factories of foreign affiliated companies, so I became interested in foreign cultures and obtained a qualification as an interpreter guide in 2015.

    I have been a guide for about eight years. During that time, I have guided in Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Kochi and so on, although I could do little guiding work between 2020 and 2022 due to COVID-19. However, since last year, my guiding work has been back! So, I am happy to be able to meet different people again. My hobby is travelling, but sadly, I am not in a position to travel abroad easily at the moment due to the very weak yen, and I hope to travel abroad again when the situation eases a bit more.

Of course, you can get good food in fine restaurants, but you can also get good food in downtown restaurants. If you like alcohol, why don’t you try Japanese sake? It can range from light and fragrant to rich in flavor, so you’re sure to find a Japanese sake you like.
