What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, Ryoanji, and Higashiyama The guests visited Japan from Oceania. They had originally lived in Europe and relocated to their current home five years ago. Their hotel had been changed the day before (from one hotel to another), so I was a little flustered at first. When I asked at the hotel, the booking was not found under the guest's name, but we were able to meet without any trouble. Although it was not originally on the plan, we decided to add Ryoanji Temple to the itinerary. As a result, the tour ended after guiding them through the Higashiyama area. While we were taking a break in Arashiyama it started to rain, but the rain stopped during our break, so there were no problems after that. I took photos in Arashiyama, though some of the guests preferred not to be in the pictures and did not join.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

Hyogo in Half a Day: Himeji Castle & Nadagiku Sake Brewery

    Tour Itinerary

    • 10:30 @ Himeji Castle
    • 12:30 @ Kokoen Garden
    • 13:30 @ Nadagiku Sake Brewery
    • 14:15 Dismiss @ Food Court inside JR Himeji Station

What Is a Private Himeji Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Koko-en and Nadagiku Sake Brewery The guests were a group who moved through the day smoothly. At each spot, everyone showed great interest and listened attentively to the guide's explanations. At Koko-en Garden, the group was very pleased to see the magnificent autumn foliage. At Nadagiku Sake Brewery, the guests enjoyed sampling Japanese sake and purchased many souvenirs. Since the group planned to travel from Osaka to Tokyo the next day, I helped them purchase their Shinkansen tickets. Afterward, as the guests were a little hungry, I guided them to a food court inside JR Himeji Station, and once they had placed their orders, we parted ways.

    Dear my guests,

This is (Mr.) Yama, greeting from Kobe, Japan.
I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

Looking forward to meeting you soon here.

What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama, and Kinkaku-ji At Fushimi Inari Taisha, the guest set off enthusiastically aiming for the summit, but gave up about halfway, at a point with a good view. The guest travels around various countries every December, and drawing inspiration from the many things seen to bring back into their work. Since the guest was taking a lot of photos, I made sure to point out not only the scenery but also the creatures of the area (many cats, a large frog, and colorful nishikigoi carp, among others). Even though it had grown colder and such creatures often stay out of sight, on this day they all appeared for us. The guest was delighted and immediately edited the photos and uploaded them to social media. Since the guest had used up quite a lot of energy at Fushimi Inari Taisha, we traveled by taxi from Arashiyama to Kinkaku-ji, and from Kinkaku-ji to the Pokémon Center. Because I acted flexibly while listening to the guest's requests, the guest was very satisfied.

Hi! My name is YUKA. I’ve got the government license in 2018 and joined a half year traning to do the guide. But a half year later I started my carreer, Covid came. I should have given up guiding. During the Covid, I’ve read many books and made my own materials to explain Japanese culture, history, etc. I love guiding because the guests expand my horizon all the time and let me know their own country and culture, etc. It is really important for us all to know each other and respect each other to make this world peace. Thank you for coming to Japan! Let’s enjoy Japan together!

What Is a 4-Hour Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came to Japan from Europe. One of the guests had previously visited Japan about six times for work, but all of those were business trips, so this was effectively their first time sightseeing here. The guests walked at a good, brisk pace throughout. They took fewer photos than expected. As it was a 4-hour tour, they did not do any shopping. For the sightseeing, they seemed to want to enjoy the atmosphere of Kyoto rather than detailed history. After Fushimi Inari, they expressed a wish to taste sake in Fushimi. I guided them by Keihan train to Fushimi Sakagura Koji in the Fushimi Otesuji shopping street (the "Fushimi" part is written in an old-style character), where the tour ended. At each place we visited, the autumn foliage was still present, but the leaves were gradually falling, and it looked like it would be over in just a few more days. The photos were taken in Arashiyama.

Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Peace Memorial Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from Europe on a private tour of Hiroshima. The guests had arrived in Hiroshima the previous evening, and today's tour started at 9:00 in the morning. At the Rest House, they viewed the exhibits related to Eizo Nomura with great interest and listened attentively to the explanations. At the Stone of Peace, I introduced a stone cut from Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain, which delighted the guests greatly. At the museum, they spent more than two hours viewing the exhibits, twice as long as most guests typically spend. It was clear that they had been very much looking forward to their visit to Hiroshima.

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report Today I guided a group visiting from Oceania, and it was their first time in Japan. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, I was surprised by the very large number of school-trip students, but the guests enjoyed spotting the fox statues. They were also amazed by the carp in the pond of the Nijo Castle garden. They were delighted to purchase souvenirs such as beautiful origami and toy swords. At Kinkaku-ji, there was a light drizzle, but one of the guests, who loves photography, took many pictures and seemed to have a wonderful time. This private one-day tour of Kyoto was arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures.

Title: What Is a Private Full-Day Taxi Tour of the Nikko Area Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. They had a very cheerful, relaxed, and easygoing atmosphere. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) arranged a one-day private tour lasting six and a half hours, using a large taxi (Alphard). For lunch, both I and the taxi driver were treated by the guests. Coming from a region without much snow, the group seemed delighted by the snowy scenery, the flowing rivers, the forests, and the lake views. Since some of the guests had a nut allergy, I took them to a yuba (tofu skin) restaurant where the ingredients could be trusted the most, and they were very pleased. For the following day, they wanted to use the same vehicle for a taxi ride from their hotel to the station, so I made a reservation through the driver. They said the mid-size car on the way in had felt cramped, but that today's vehicle was comfortable and perfect. Although the weather was clear today, it was a very cold day, so using the taxi throughout allowed them to enjoy the tour comfortably and without strain.

Hello! My name is Yumi. The Nikko area, Nasu area, in Tochigi Prefecture, and Aizu and Shirakawa area in Fukushima prefecture, where I will be guiding you, are not only surrounded by beautiful nature in all four seasons but are also full of historical attractions. Nikko, in particular, is a great place to learn about the culture and history that has shaped Japan to this day. In order for you to truly enjoy your day, I am flexible to your wishes and will prepare your day to be a great day. Because I am a local guide, you will surely see some sights that are not in the guidebooks. Is local food one of your favorite parts of your trip? I am also a sushi-making instructor for foreigners, so food is one of my specialties. I am also a certified sake navigator. Why don’t you come and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with me?

What Is a Private Afternoon Walking Tour of Central Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour start time was changed to 13:00, moving two hours later due to the guest's work commitments. Since it gets dark in the early evening, I rearranged the order of the itinerary and explained the changes at departure. At the first stop, Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, the contrast between the Japanese garden and the dome and cluster of buildings in the background was wonderful, and it was also perfect timing for the maple leaves turning red, so the guest was delighted by how beautiful it was. Before stopping at the Imperial Palace, I introduced the architecture of Tokyo Station, and since the guest was a little tired from lack of sleep, we had a coffee break at KITTE. I have uploaded the photo the guest took of me at the Christmas tree in KITTE. Before we said goodbye at the hotel, I introduced some restaurants around the Keio Plaza area, showing them from the storefronts. When I recommended Marugame Seimen, located in the building next to the hotel, as cheap and delicious, the guest later shared a photo saying it was truly delicious after eating there. As a guide, this is a joy.

Title: What Is a Private Kamakura Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the Great Buddha, and Hasedera The guests had studied the history of Kamakura quite a bit before the tour. When we visited Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, I explained the meaning of the Genpei Ponds and the connection between the shrine and its pigeons, and the guests listened with great interest as new information. I explained about omikuji fortune slips and asked if they would like to try. One of the guests declined, saying they did not want to draw a bad fortune, while another was more eager and, upon drawing one, was delighted to receive a "good luck" result. At the Great Buddha of Kamakura, they even went inside the statue. Afterward, since one of the guests wished to have lunch somewhere with an ocean view, the café at Hasedera, which we had already planned to visit, became our lunch spot. They were moved by the view of Yuigahama beach, taking panoramic photos of the beautiful scenery. The guests enjoyed curry udon and a meat-sauce pasta, and seemed very satisfied. They said it was far more delicious than their favorite Japanese restaurant back in their hometown. The maple leaves in the temple grounds had turned bright red, and they were so impressed by their beauty that they took many photos. They purchased souvenirs such as chopsticks (at Komachi Street) and a small sake cup featuring an illustration of a sumo wrestler (at Kotokuin). At a shop they found on the road from Hasedera toward the Enoden Hase Station, they also splurged on items such as bags made from repurposed kimono obi sashes for their relatives and friends. In the end, since they planned to do some shopping in Yokohama before returning to their accommodation, we parted ways at Yokohama Station a little earlier than planned.

Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, and Harajuku The guests were visitors from North America. Some of the group had been living in Japan since August and working, and the visit was a good opportunity for the rest of the group to come to Japan. It was their first visit to Japan. Since part of the group was living in Akabane, the guests stayed at an Airbnb nearby, so we met at JR Akabane Station. They also planned to travel together to Kyoto and Osaka later in the week. I guided them through Asakusa, the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Harajuku (Takeshita Street). Apart from Harajuku, we visited traditional sites, and they enjoyed the atmosphere while listening to the explanations. For lunch, they requested tonkatsu, so we went to a restaurant in Marunouchi. In Harajuku, they were surprised to find cafes featuring micro pigs and otters. After the tour, the guests planned to meet up at Yoyogi Park, so I took them to Yoyogi Park and we parted ways there.
