Tokyo in One Day: Meiji Shrine & Tokyo Skytree Observation Deck

    Tour Itinerary

    • 8:10 Meet at Shinagawa Station (originally planned to meet at 7:30, but arrived late)
    • 8:30 Meiji Shrine
    • 9:50 Shinagawa Station
    • 10:40 East Gardens of the Imperial Palace
    • 12:10 Baseball Hall of Fame Museum
    • 13:00 Asakusa
    • 14:15 Tokyo Skytree Observation Deck
    • 15:45 Disband at the taxi stand in front of Tokyo Skytree

    # What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, and Skytree The weather was excellent, but the guests I was to meet at Shinagawa Station were unable to come smoothly by train from Haneda, so we started 40 minutes late. The guests had tickets for the Skytree, the Tokyo subway, and the Keikyu line, but it turned out that the subway ticket could not be exchanged at a Tokyo Metro station. According to a station attendant, we tried to go back to Keikyu Shinagawa to have it exchanged, but were told it could only be done at Haneda, so we gave up and I purchased a one-day Tokyo subway pass out of my own pocket and handed it over. We proceeded to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum, and then Asakusa, where the guests happily bought souvenirs, but the crowd in front of the main hall was not moving, so we gave up on visiting it. We were able to see a portable shrine at Asakusa Shrine, so we took a commemorative photo. The Skytree observation deck was very crowded, and with the long waits for the elevators going up and down, the guests seemed quite worn out. Since this is not even a place included in the tour course, I vowed to myself never to go there again. I had planned to see the guests off at a station near their hotel, but at the guests' request we parted ways at the taxi stand in front of Skytree.

    • 10-50 Stroll around Shibuya

What Can You See on a Short Tokyo Transit Layover Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests stopped over in Tokyo on a transit layover while on their way home, after spending six weeks traveling around Southeast Asia. Given the limited time available, the tour was arranged to match their wish to experience as much of Japan's atmosphere, culture, and history as possible. Since one of the guests spoke only Spanish, the guiding was mainly conducted in English with another member of the group, who then relayed the information to the other. We first traveled from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station by monorail and JR, and amid the morning commuter crowds I introduced the history of Tokyo Station, followed by the origins of the Imperial Palace and an overview centered on the history of Japan's imperial tradition. At Meiji Shrine, I explained the history of Buddhism and Shinto in Japan, the differences in their concepts, and the differences in how people worship, and the guests seemed to understand well. Having visited many temples in Southeast Asia beforehand, they were surprised by the differences with Shinto. After showing them the Shibuya Crossing, we visited Asakusa and Senso-ji Temple, where they seemed to sense the atmosphere of the Edo period and were delighted.

    Hello and welcome to Tokyo!

I have been working for business with American companies for many years. I have many experiences guiding customers from around the world in Japan and taking Japanese customers to the USA and Europe.

I now have a national license as a guiding interpreter, and I want to introduce the unique gigantic city of Tokyo and the traditional Japanese culture, which is not shown in the guidebooks, to people worldwide who are interested in it. In addition, I want to introduce various Japanese foods you can enjoy only in Japan.
Unique experiences such as the Sumo Training Viewing and Tea Ceremony are optionally available.
Depending on your preference and itinerary, I can guide you in Tokyo, Kamakura, and Hakone so that you can enjoy your time in Japan.

Originally, I’m a cycling guide doing cycling tours all over Japan.
But, already done Hiroshima & Miyajima tour more than 400 times.
I traveled many countries in my younger days. I traveled Europe, US, China, India, US, Mexico, Peru Australia, NZ, and so on.
I decided to use this experience to become a guide.
I’m afraid but no tipping required, because cycling guides are not allowed to have tipping in my association. And you do not need to pay for my lunch, because my lunch is prepared by our group.
Please do not hesitate to ask me anything, I’ll change the plan according to your requests.
Thank you for your understanding and please stay connected.

Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, and Gion The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. I had initially suggested Nijo Castle, but since they had visited it the previous day, we changed the plan to Fushimi Inari Shrine instead. Prior communication was handled through a travel agency, and I was informed in advance that a specific restaurant should be used, so we dined there, and it turned out to be a very nice place (Korai Gallery Cafe near Yasaka Shrine). While waiting at the restaurant, we made origami together. Kiyomizu-dera and Gion were crowded, so we ran slightly over time, but since it was their last day in Kyoto, I took them to Fushimi Inari Shrine at the end. After the tour, the travel agency reported that the guests had been very satisfied.

What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Skytree The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. The advance information indicated they would be staying at one Hotel, but they were actually staying at a different Hotel, which meant it took some extra time before we managed to meet up. Because the group included an elderly member, I made an effort to use elevators as much as possible when riding the subway to reduce the physical burden. While visiting Meiji Shrine and the Imperial Palace, I explained the differences between Buddhism and Shinto and the differences in their customs, which the guests seemed to appreciate. They had already visited Osaka and Kyoto, but felt they should have learned about these things beforehand. One of the guests had once taught Japanese history and had quite a lot of knowledge, but I explained the origins and history of the Imperial Palace again, and they appeared to deepen their understanding. At the end, the guests wanted to go to Skytree, so I explained that the views are especially worthwhile from the evening onward, guided them to the ticket counter, and concluded the tour.

Hakone in 1 Day by Private Car

    Tour Itinerary

    • 9:00 Meet at hotel. All travel by car. Owakudani. Ropeway (operating between Owakudani and Togendai). Togendai 10:45. Pirate ship. Disembark at Hakonemachi Port. Maruyama Bussan shopping. Hakone Checkpoint ruins. Old Tokaido cedar avenue. Motohakone Port lakeside. Hakone Shrine. Susuki-ga-hara. Choanji Temple. Return to hotel 15:20. Dismissal

What Is a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a warm and friendly group. From Owakudani, the overwhelming view of Mount Fuji, along with the scenery full of volcanic activity and natural beauty, was very moving, and everyone enjoyed the famous black eggs. On the pirate ship there was a strong, cold wind, but the guests said they did not find it cold, so we took photos on board. They were impressed by the craftsmanship of the marquetry woodwork and made a high-value purchase. Feeling that stopping for lunch would be a waste of time, we continued without a lunch break. Along the old cedar-lined road and then at Hakone Shrine, we talked about Shinto and Buddhism. Making good use of the car, we went around to the Sengokuhara pampas grass fields and enjoyed the natural scenery, and finally visited Choanji Temple to see the 500 rakan statues. At the guests' request, we skipped lunch and had a full and rewarding day.

I am a friendly grandfather of 4 grandchildren.
I would love to help you enjoy Japan, using my 3 strong points.
First: I am used to dealing with any kind of matters. I have experienced various situations in the 40 years of my working life.
Second: I am good at making a friendly atmosphere between you and local people to help you enjoy Japan. I was raised in western Japan, studied in northern Japan and now live in central Japan. So I know various local cultures and dialects to communicate with a wide variety of people.
Third: I can explain things from a technical point of view.
For example, how the Great Buddha was constructed, because I am a master of engineering graduated from Hokkaido University.

The guests came to Japan in connection with a trip and set aside one relaxing day for sightseeing. Since they wanted to visit as many places as possible, I had arranged for SUICA cards in advance, which allowed us to get off to a smooth start. Along the way, the guests enjoyed treats such as strawberry candy sticks and ice cream. In Harajuku's Takeshita Street, they peeked into a mini-pig cafe and enjoyed strolling around before heading to Shibuya. Half-Day Private Tour of Tokyo (Takeshita Street & Tsukiji): A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, stopping in Japan for a half-day tour while on their way home after visiting relatives. One of the guests had attended a Chinese-language school as a child and could read the meanings of kanji such as those for the four cardinal directions. After enjoying a stroll along Takeshita Street, peeking into several animal cafés, the group experienced the food culture of Tsukiji. Although one of the guests had said they did not eat raw seafood, I persuaded them to try lunch at an authentic sushi restaurant, and as I had expected, they finished every piece of sushi served and were surprised themselves. What's an Afternoon Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Asakusa The guests were visiting Japan for the first time and had already been out exploring since the morning, so the tour began in the afternoon. We started at Meiji Shrine, where the guests enjoyed the wooden shrine buildings, the quiet of the forest, and the atmosphere, and had a light meal at a café. On Takeshita Street, they were amazed by the unusual subculture. They were very interested in the fashion and sneaker shops in the side streets off Omotesando. Although it was a weekday, the Shibuya Crossing was very lively, and the guests seemed very satisfied. We took a short break in the car on the way to Asakusa, and while about half of the Nakamise shops were already closing, the temple grounds were lit up, and the guests were moved by their beauty. I recommended a place for dinner and was asked to join, so we went together to a casual yakiniku restaurant that a group can enjoy comfortably, where I focused on helping with the ordering and grilling. That said, they insisted, so I did have a beer. I saw the guests off from Asakusa to Kuramae and advised them to take the Oedo Line directly to Tochomae and return to the Hotel from there. Along the way, the guests peppered me with one question after another, which kept me delightfully busy, and it was truly a wonderful time.

Born and raised in Tokyo a half-century ago, I have lived in Tokyo all my life except for one year in the UK to study for a master’s course. I am a Tokyo Native with viewpoints based on broader local knowledge than anyone else. I have specialised in Japanese history, culture, and architecture since I was an architect.
Also, I am a foodie emphasising Japanese traditional & healthy foods. I’ve been to many countries around the world, such as the US, Central America, Europe, and Asia. As such, I believe I can anticipate the needs of foreign tourists in Japan.

Despite my experience as a guide for just two years, we can make the best out of our tour by travelling from your hotel to spots time-efficiently with my local knowledge, while accommodating your unexpected requests during the tour.
My strong area includes Yanesen; Old Temples in a Quaint Village, Kamakura, Asakusa Sensoji, Meiji Shrine and Imperial Palace. All give you peace of mind.
