    What's a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like for a Family? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Asakusa The guests were a group from North America. They were staying at a hotel in central Shibuya, but since they had arrived late the previous night, they had not yet seen anything, so I took them to the crossing to experience it. When I explained that it becomes even more impressive on weekend nights, they said they would like to come back again in the evening. They planned to stay in Tokyo for a few days and then head to Kyoto, so I purchased PASMO cards for the whole group and explained how to use them, along with the fact that they can be used for public transportation throughout Japan. Although we had not originally planned to visit Shinjuku's Golden Gai, some of the guests wanted to see the "3D cat" advertisement and the Godzilla building, so I guided them to the east exit of Shinjuku, and they enjoyed it. They also wanted to see cherry blossoms, so we walked to Shinjuku Gyoen, where they admired the early cherry blossoms along with the Japanese garden and seemed very satisfied. After that, we headed to Asakusa and strolled around Senso-ji Temple, where they appeared to enjoy the old-fashioned atmosphere and charm. Since some of the guests seemed tired, I wrapped up the tour a little early and we headed back to their accommodation.

    Title: What's a Private Walking Tour from Shiodome to Ginza in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. Since a travel agency was involved as an intermediary, communication was not always smooth; although the first email was sent on October last year, direct contact was not established until early January this year. Their initial request was for the Tsukiji Outer Market, and later, since they are located nearby, requests for Hamarikyu Gardens and the Imperial Palace were added in mid-January this year. This was their first visit to Japan. Tonight they planned to visit Shibuya Sky, and the next day they intended to travel as far as Kamakura. Including this, they would stay in Tokyo for three days, and afterward travel via Hakone to Kyoto and Osaka. Since it was their first day, they requested a guide because they wanted to get used to the public transportation. In the end, we walked from Shiodome to Hamarikyu Gardens, the Tsukiji Outer Market, the Kabukiza Theater, and Ginza 4-chome, so we did not actually use public transportation much. Completely different from the snow two days earlier, it was a spring-like day, and at Hamarikyu Gardens the rapeseed flowers were in full bloom. Unfortunately, there were no places to see cherry blossoms today, so I introduced Shinjuku Gyoen and other spots to them.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What's a Private Osaka Food and Shopping Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They had visited Japan several times before, and for this trip they had planned to see shrines and temples in Tokyo and Kyoto before coming to Osaka, where they wanted to focus on food and shopping. For lunch, I guided them on a food-tasting walk through Kuromon Market, and for shopping and sightseeing I took them to shopping streets that are each popular with locals, as well as a museum where they could experience Osaka as it has been from the Edo period onward. The guests were very satisfied. For dinner, I made a reservation at a restaurant near their hotel where they could enjoy Kansai-style dashi broth, serving "udon-chiri," and I received a report that they had a wonderful time watching the staff prepare the hot pot, which left me very pleased as well.

    The guests were a group visiting from North America who knew one another. Most of them were visiting Japan and Kyoto for the first time. During the tour, I took the guests to Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and Nijo Castle. Some of the guests said they liked the bamboo grove best, while others preferred Nijo Castle. They especially appreciated being able to go inside Nijo Castle for the visit. The weather was warm and perfect for touring, but the guests were surprised by how crowded it was. With this many tourists already at this time of year, one can only imagine how busy it will be in April and May. It seems necessary to plan schedules with plenty of extra time to spare.

    Title: Can You Do a Wheelchair-Accessible Private Tour of Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report The day before the tour, there was an inquiry about whether a wheelchair rental would be possible, as one of the guests had difficulty walking and had become tired from walking too much in Hiroshima the previous day. After meeting, we rented a wheelchair for free at Kyoto Station and used it throughout the itinerary. We took a taxi to Toji Temple, visited the Kobo Market, and toured the five-story pagoda and the temple grounds. The guests were delighted to see plum blossoms and early-blooming cherry blossoms. They were also able to witness a Buddhist memorial service, which made for a special experience. After that, we moved to Nijo Castle. Since I had confirmed in advance that it could be visited by wheelchair, we were able to tour it without any problems. The guests wanted to return to Kyoto Station a little earlier than planned, so we headed back, and since they were traveling toward Osaka, I accompanied them on the same train and concluded the tour on board. I realized I should research more about wheelchair-accessible locations in the future.

    Can You Take a Private Day Tour of Kobe? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nunobiki Herb Garden, Minatogawa Shrine, and Harborland Today's guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. We met in the lobby of the guests' hotel and visited Kobe Nunobiki Herb Garden, Minatogawa Shrine, and Kobe Harborland. For lunch, the guests requested sushi, so I took them to a sushi restaurant in Harborland. Up to this point, the tour had gone extremely smoothly. At the sushi restaurant, the guests said they wanted to have Kobe beef for dinner and asked me to recommend a restaurant. I thought I had already sent a list of Kobe beef restaurants by email, so I told them so. However, the guests said they could not find it anywhere. When I checked, I realized I indeed had not sent it. I had mistaken it for an email I had sent to different guests. After this, I became flustered, but I was able to walk to the Motomachi Shopping Street and send the list to the guests there. We ended the tour in Nankinmachi, but I deeply regret that, had it not been for the confusion over the restaurant, it would have been a perfect tour.

After seeing Meiji Shrine and Takeshita Street, I guided them to a pancake shop they had requested. They enjoyed the pancakes, saying they were fluffy and delicious. After visiting Harakado and Tokyu Plaza in Omotesando, there was still time, so I guided them on foot to Shibuya, where they had planned to go next. For lunch, they wanted conveyor-belt sushi, so I took them to Kura Sushi before we said goodbye.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Tsukiji, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya The guests were friends visiting Japan from North America. It was the first visit to Japan for both of them. The main purpose of this trip was a cruise around Japan. The day after next, they would depart from Yokohama Port, stopping at ports such as Shimizu, Kagoshima, and Nagasaki, before heading to Busan in Asia. The guests would disembark there. After spending a week in Asia, they planned to return home by air. They stayed in Tokyo for only two days. They had become friends after meeting on a cruise some years earlier. Tomorrow, they planned to visit teamLab and Akihabara. Both had already set up Suica cards on their phones. Unlike the previous day, this tour took place under clear skies. Both guests wished to go around without lunch or breaks. First, we went to Asakusa, which they had requested. As always, it was very crowded. I explained about "Senso-ji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo," "what a five-story pagoda is," "what Buddhism is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." There were questions such as "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?" and "What kind of teaching is Shinto?" They drew omikuji fortunes (both drew "good luck" and were delighted), and also purchased a "traffic safety" amulet as a souvenir. We strolled leisurely through the Nakamise shopping street. We moved to Tsukiji, which was also full of people. I explained about "the history of the fish market since the Edo period" and "the difference between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market." We looked around various shops and bought coffee at a café. There were also questions such as "Why are there so many people here?" and "Are the people here locals or travelers from overseas?" From there, we went to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. We strolled through the gardens. A few early-blooming cherry trees could be seen, and we took commemorative photos in front of them. I explained about "the transition from the Edo period to the Meiji era," "the Meiji Restoration," "why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace," and "an overview of the current Imperial Family." They said, "The pine trees are beautiful." There were also questions such as "Does the Emperor of Japan hold political power?" We moved to Harajuku, first visiting Meiji Shrine. I explained about "torii gates" and "Emperor Meiji." They said, "It's wonderful that there is such a green park in the middle of the city." We moved to Shibuya, where I explained about "the history of Shibuya." We walked across the "Scramble Crossing" and took commemorative photos in front of Hachiko. There were comments such as "Japanese people are all polite" and "There is no litter on the streets." They also commented, "The subways are clean and quiet. It wouldn't be like this in our country." I saw them off at Kyobashi Station, and the tour ended.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    What Can You See on a Private Kyoto Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera and Kinkaku-ji The guests were visitors from North America. At the inner sanctuary of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, they gently stroked the Fureai Kannon statue, which is made so that people who cannot see can touch it. They had a very calm and gentle demeanor throughout the tour. Along the approach to Kiyomizu-dera, they bought yatsuhashi sweets, and on Sannenzaka slope they purchased chili pepper seasoning, and at Kinkaku-ji Temple they bought wasabi-flavored beans. They enjoyed collecting magnets and bought one along the Kiyomizu approach and another at Kinkaku-ji. They plan to fly home from Haneda tomorrow, and were delighted to be able to buy furikake seasoning as a gift for their friends.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like in Bad Weather? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe, all traveling to Japan for the first time. They were staying in Japan for about two weeks. From the day after next, they planned to travel to Kanazawa, Kaga Onsen, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima before returning to Tokyo and heading home. The previous evening, they had arrived at Narita Airport from Europe via a connecting flight, then took the Narita Express to Shinjuku. The night before, they strolled around the Kabukicho area near their hotel and enjoyed ramen. Tomorrow they plan to visit teamLab and Tokyo Skytree. All of them had already set up Suica cards on their phones. They also mentioned that the surrounding noise had been quite loud, so they had not slept very well. This turned out to be a tour under the worst possible weather, with thunder, snow, and then rain in succession. First, we headed to Asakusa, as requested. As always, it was extremely crowded. I explained about "Sensoji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo," "what a five-story pagoda is," "what Buddhism is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." There were further questions such as "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?" and "What kind of teaching is Shinto?" They drew omikuji fortunes, and the guests purchased omamori charms (they were concerned about a safe childbirth for a family member). We strolled along the Nakamise shopping street, and they bought folding fans as souvenirs. Along the way, they also bought and tried strawberry candy. Next, we moved to Tsukiji. Despite the bad weather, there was a large crowd. I explained about "the history of the fish market since the Edo period" and "the difference between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market." We browsed various shops and bought coffee at a cafe. There were questions such as "Why are there so many people here?" and "Do all people in Tokyo come here to buy fish?" They said they really wanted to eat sushi here, so we went for an early lunch at a sushi restaurant in Tsukiji. They ordered quite a large amount of sushi, but finished it all. They said, "This is far fresher and more delicious than the sushi restaurants back home." From there, we went to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. We strolled through the East Gardens, where a few early-blooming cherry trees could be seen, and we took commemorative photos in front of them. I explained about "the transition from the Edo period to the Meiji era," "the Meiji Restoration," "why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace," and "an overview of the current Imperial Household." They also said, "The subway is clean and quiet. We don't have a system like this back home." I saw them off at Shinjuku Station, and we parted ways.
