What's a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji The guests visited Japan from Europe. The guests enjoyed mountain hiking and were strong walkers, which made the tour easier to conduct. There had been no specific requests for places to visit beforehand, but when we met at the Hotel, the guests requested Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji. Fortunately, at both locations we were able to see the cherry blossoms just beginning to bloom. Since we had time to spare, we strolled through Nishiki Market. The guests seemed to be considerate of me and passed through without stopping, but I imagine that after we parted, they fully enjoyed the street food together. The guests were deeply impressed by the beauty of Japanese gardens and also showed a strong interest in history. The tour was completed efficiently and without any wasted time.

What's a Private Sightseeing Day Tour in Japan Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. Although the overnight rain had stopped, the weather remained a little unstable, but it held up until the end of the tour, allowing us to follow almost exactly the course they had requested and to keep to schedule. Cherry blossoms were beginning to open here and there, and I was able to guide them through beautiful scenery while offering a good balance of historically significant spots, which I believe they enjoyed. During the morning meeting, they mentioned they had just one request, asking for ramen for lunch, so I took them to a shop that matched their wishes, which also delighted them very much.

Thanks for joining our tour. I’m Hiro Nakagawa, assigned to be your guide for this tour. I was eligible as a National Licensed Tour Guide in 2017. I have guided many tourists from overseas since then. Japan is a beautiful country with full of various attractions. Please enjoy your time in this country to the fullest. I will help you with that. What are you interested in this country? I will introduce this country’s long history, traditional culture, beautiful seasonal highlights, and delicious food to you. Please let me know your preferences. If it’s other than which I mentioned, I’m preparing it for you as much as possible. Let’s enjoy the trip together!

What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour for Cruise Ship Guests Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests for this tour arrived by cruise ship, and beforehand they had emailed to ask that the meeting time be set for around 10:00, as their arrival was likely to be delayed. In the end, perhaps because the bus from the terminal departed late, we were only able to meet at around 10:20. I adjusted the schedule accordingly and proceeded with the tour a little later than planned. The highlight this time was Rikugien Garden, which we visited first. The weeping cherry trees were nearly in full bloom, and the guests were especially delighted by them. Since they seemed tired from the sea voyage and mentioned that they had already seen enough temples and shrines, at Sensoji Temple I limited the guidance to the area around Nakamise Street, and at the East Gardens I focused mainly on walking through the Honmaru area, which has a wider variety of cherry blossom species. I had planned to take the guests to Tokyo Tower at the end of the tour, but as they were tired and wished to return to their hotel early, we instead stopped in Akihabara to purchase a few souvenirs before I saw them back to their hotel, where we parted ways.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

What Is a Private Hiroshima Peace Park and Shukkeien Garden Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. Since rain was forecast for the evening, after consulting with the guests, we reversed the original sightseeing route, starting with Shukkeien Garden and ending at the Peace Memorial Museum. At Shukkeien Garden, the cherry blossoms were in bloom, and the guests strolled through it with evident enjoyment. At the Orizuru Tower, the guests folded paper cranes themselves and seemed very satisfied. They also listened with interest to explanations about the Atomic Bomb Dome and other monuments. Finally, I guided them to the Peace Memorial Museum, where they toured the exhibits using an audio guide. I told the guests that I would wait in the lobby after their visit, but they said this was not necessary, so we parted at the museum entrance. Afterward, I received an email from the guests saying that although the museum was very crowded, they found it wonderful.

Hi! My name is Kazuhisa To. After completing graduate school, I moved to Hiroshima—and have now lived here for over 42 years. I earned a Ph.D. through a national university’s professional program while working at Mazda Motor Corporation. Five years before retiring from the company, I was seconded to Hiroshima University, a national university, where I served as a specially appointed professor. In addition to my domestic career, I spent a total of about five and a half years living and working abroad. These international experiences have given me valuable cross-cultural understanding and the ability to connect comfortably with guests from around the world. Currently, as a Hiroshima Prefectural Government Licensed Guide Interpreter, I introduce visitors not only to famous attractions such as Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima, but also to the local lifestyle, culture, and culinary delights, tailored to your interests. I hope to provide each guest with a memorable experience that stays in your heart.
I look forward to meeting you here in Hiroshima!

Title: What Is a Private Miyajima and Hiroshima Tour Like from a Cruise Port? A Licensed Guide's Report The cruise ship docked at Itsukaichi Port. A shuttle bus service was available, but its timing was late, so the guests took a taxi to the shuttle stop at Yume Town Hatsukaichi to meet me. We transferred to the Hiroden tram and then a ferry to reach Miyajima, where we visited Itsukushima Shrine and Daiganji Temple. Afterward, on the main approach, we enjoyed age-momiji (fried maple-leaf cakes), and then had okonomiyaki at an okonomiyaki restaurant I had reserved in advance. The guests seemed interested in Japanese sake, so during the meal they compared warm sake and cold sake side by side. They said the cold sake was delicious. They also said the okonomiyaki was tasty, though the portion seemed a bit too large. We then headed to the Motoyasu River pier as planned via the World Heritage Sea Route. We took the 12:20 boat; the service after the next departure was suspended until 15:40, so it was fortunate that I had confirmed and reserved in advance. I addressed one of the guests as "Mr. Bond," after the famous 007 character, which they seemed to enjoy. After visiting the Peace Memorial Park, the guests said they wanted to buy a suitcase, so I guided them to a luggage shop and a supermarket, and the tour concluded. It rained on and off in the afternoon, but the guests seemed to have enjoyed themselves.

Title: What Can You See on a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was partly sunny with no rain, and the guests remained energetic until the very end. One of the guests seemed to have some difficulty walking, but managed to make it to the finish. Since the guests wanted to see as many places as possible and did not mind going over the scheduled time, we visited a few more spots than planned. At the Imperial Palace, the guests enjoyed the many varieties of cherry blossoms and were also delighted by the Japanese garden. In Asakusa, I explained about the Skytree and we took photos, but unfortunately it was hazy, possibly due to yellow sand, so the view was less clear. I had planned to have a meal at a long-established yakitori restaurant, but it was closed, so we went to a yakitori restaurant on the fourth floor of a nearby building. It may not have been entirely to their liking. At Ueno Toshogu Shrine, I gave a brief explanation of the history. The guests were pleased that the old buildings and lanterns still remain. We then visited Meiji Shrine and Takeshita Street, and finally parted ways in Shibuya. The tour ran a little over an hour longer than scheduled.

They had arrived in Osaka from another Asian destination this morning and seemed a little tired, but at Kuromon Market they enjoyed trying fatty tuna sushi and sashimi, as well as sea urchin and takoyaki. In Dotonbori, although the area was packed with tourists, they spoke with deep impression about how places such as Hozenji Yokocho and the Mizukake Fudoson allowed them to feel the atmosphere and history of Osaka. In Shinsekai, they were surprised to learn that Billiken originated in North America. As they enjoyed cooking, at Tower Knives they had a serious conversation with the staff and were very satisfied to purchase two kitchen knives.

Hello, This is Shige. I was born and brought up in Osaka. I have been enjoying working as a tour guide since 2016 after retired from a manufacturing company in which I worked at the overseas department. So I experienced a lot of business with customers in Europe, Asia, Australia, and USA where my three years of living and working at the subsidiary company with my family was the most amazing experience of my life. Well, Japan has a long history including ancient remains, historic buildings and cultures at each period over 2000 years. I hope you will enjoy exploring Japan in this tour. What's a Private Day Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from Europe, and since we had been in touch about the itinerary for about a month beforehand, we were able to build a friendly rapport from the moment we met. For lunch, the guests had requested okonomiyaki in advance, so I searched for a restaurant near the Peace Park. Many places are closed on Thursdays and many also close at 14:00, so making a reservation was difficult, but I managed to find one restaurant. The guests were delighted to try this dish for the first time and enjoyed eating it with a spatula. Unfortunately the weather was not very good, and the view from Mount Misen was a little disappointing in particular. However, in the end we were fortunate to have almost no rain, and the guests both enjoyed themselves. Before we parted, I introduced some recommended places to visit at various ports of call around Japan where they were scheduled to stop on their cruise, which they were very pleased about.

    • **I forgot to write the times. I'm sorry!

Title: Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Miyajima and Hiroshima? A Licensed Guide's Report It had been three months since my last tour. First, I realized that with an 8:00 meeting time, the connections between transportation—especially JR, the ferry, and JR buses—were very poor, so I revised the itinerary I had guided seven times before and prepared accordingly. In the end, taking the Hiroden streetcar allowed us to use the time efficiently. The guests were interested in history and listened attentively. At Miyajima, when I mentioned that the difference between high and low tide was 4 meters, they seemed doubtful, but they were convinced when I pointed out the breakwater leading to the shrine. One of the guests wished to see a doctor at a hospital near the hotel in Osaka, so I called the hotel twice to check, but the situation remained unclear. Since they wanted to reach the hotel as soon as possible, I booked the 16:22 Shinkansen. We parted at the station at 16:00. I was glad they were pleased.

Title: What Is a Private Full-Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Shinjuku, and Okonomiyaki The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. At Meiji Shrine, they were delighted to come across a traditional Japanese wedding, with the bride in a white kimono and the groom in a haori-hakama, and they mentioned how glad they were to witness it in person. Lunch was a make-your-own okonomiyaki experience, which they enjoyed very much as a fun and hands-on activity. Since okonomiyaki takes some time to cook, we were able to chat about the food cultures of our respective regions and the difficulty of the Japanese language, making it a very pleasant time together. Visiting the observation deck at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building was a first for me as well. The line looked long, but we were able to get in without waiting too much, and since it is free of charge, it has become one of the places I can include in future itineraries around the Shinjuku area.

I registered as a national guide in February 2015 and began working as an interpreter guide in 2019. I have been guiding throughout Tokyo (I was born and raised in Setagaya and went to elementary and junior high school in Aoyama, Minato-ku. I am familiar with sightseeing spots and gourmet food in this area, including Shibuya), and I now live in Kanagawa (Yokohama where I have lived more than 30 years, and Kamakura, Odawara, Hakone)
I worked for the Japanese branch of an American advertising company for over 30 years and, thus, have deep knowledge of marketing and branding.
My hobbies are travel (domestic and international) and bicycling (I have participated in the Tour de Okinawa citizens’ race every year since 2017. I ride approx. 7,000 kilometers a year). When traveling in Japan, I enjoy traditional crafts, local products, food, and sake from each region. I am also active in a band as a third hobby, performing live once a year for ten years.
As a guide, I mainly guide small groups (about 4-5 people), where I can communicate more closely and politely with them, rather than large groups.
My activity aims to deepen the understanding of Japanese traditional culture and the Japanese people among foreign visitors and to make a small contribution to making Japan the number one country to revisit in their hearts.
