    What Is a Private Nara Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nara Park, Todaiji, and Kofukuji Today's guests were a group visiting from Europe. The sky was cloudy with occasional light rain, which made for perfect weather to explore slowly on foot. We started at Kasuga Taisha Shrine. The guests were completely captivated by the large number of deer they saw for the first time and took many photos again and again. Today there were especially many fawns, which delighted them. However, they were surprised that the deer became quite aggressive when being fed. After lunch at the Emado Chaya teahouse near Todaiji, we went from Nigatsudo Hall through the bell tower to the Great Buddha Hall. There were not many people around, so it was nice to be able to look around at a relaxed pace. We passed through Nara Park and went to Kofukuji Temple, where we viewed the Buddhist statues inside the Tokondo Hall. After that, we ate kusa mochi from Nakatanidou and returned to Kyoto. I believe they enjoyed themselves.

    What Is a 4-Hour Private Otaru Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Otaru Art Base and the Canal [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a 4-hour private tour of Otaru for the guests visiting from Oceania. Based on the guests' requests, the schedule was built around the Otaru Art Base. I met the guests at the hotel. Due to the lunch reservation time, we started 10 minutes early. The tour began with an early lunch, and the guests mentioned they had skipped breakfast for this reason, enjoying a seafood rice bowl with great pleasure. Afterward, we strolled around the Otaru Canal area. I explained the historical background of Otaru and the canal, and the guests listened attentively to my explanations. Next, we visited the main highlight, the Otaru Art Base. We visited 4 of its 5 facilities, and the guests showed strong interest and viewed the exhibits quite enthusiastically. Finally, they enjoyed souvenir shopping along Sakaimachi Street, purchasing glasswork and sweets from a local confectionery shop. The original plan also included a visit to a sake brewery at the end, but since we were running short on time, one of the guests suggested skipping it, showing thoughtful consideration for the tour's ending time. Some of the guests had traveled to many countries around the world, and this was their second visit to Japan, while it was a first visit to Japan for others in the group. It was the first time in Hokkaido for the guests. They were very calm and kind, the weather was just right, and the tour ended in a relaxed atmosphere. The guests appeared very satisfied.

    Can You Do a Private One-Day Pop Culture Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report on Akihabara, Harajuku, and Meiji Shrine The guests were visitors from North America, both making their first trip to Japan, having arrived the previous day. They had woken up early this morning and walked all the way to the Imperial Palace, though the East Gardens were closed that day. They would be spending four days in Tokyo, then traveling around Hakone, Kyoto, Ine, Osaka, and Hiroshima, before returning to Tokyo and heading home. Since they would be staying in Asakusa on their final day and visiting the Tokyo Skytree, I explained the best route for them. Today, although the temperature stayed below 30 degrees, the high humidity with rain looming really drained our energy. As their interest was in pop culture, they were delighted at Akihabara and Takeshita Street, though it seemed they did not have any particular favorite character in mind. Since we started in the afternoon, I saved Shibuya and Shinjuku for later in order to reach Meiji Shrine before its 17:30 closing time. Originally, the plan was to part ways in Shinjuku so the guests could stroll around Kabukicho at night, but understandably they were tired, so we toasted with a beer at Omoide Yokocho and ended the tour there.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. During the pre-tour communication, messages arrived through email, a messaging app, and several other tools in the early morning Japan time, and there was concern if a reply did not come within a few hours, which caused some confusion (my apologies to everyone at [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/)), but once we met in person they were very pleasant. On the day, the previously arranged itinerary changed somewhat, with questions such as why Tsukiji Market was being cut and remarks that Aoyama and Omotesando, which had originally been on the list of places to visit, were actually not of interest. Even so, I revised the itinerary as requested and we were able to visit the places they wanted. In Asakusa they enjoyed shopping for items such as folding fans and chopsticks, and by chance a Samba Carnival was being held that day, so they were also able to watch part of the parade. I made a persistent effort to keep smiling throughout, and in the end the guests were very satisfied and even gave a wonderful review. As a memento, I presented a pair of chopsticks, which was also very well received. It was a tour that reminded me how many different kinds of people there are in the world (laugh). Overall, I believe the guests were satisfied.

    Title: What's a Private Walking Tour of Yanaka, Harajuku, and Shibuya Like? A Licensed Guide's Tokyo Report The guests were visitors from North America. They were very warm and pleasant to guide. Since they had expressed interest in the Yanaka–Nezu–Sendagi (Yanesen) area during our email exchanges beforehand, I built the itinerary mainly around that neighborhood. In addition to Yanesen, we were also able to visit Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine, and we finished the tour in Shibuya. We covered everything very efficiently, and the guests enjoyed comparing the quiet old-town atmosphere with the lively crowds of Harajuku and Shibuya, experiencing many different sides of Tokyo. We had a lot in common to talk about as well, and the tour went smoothly. In Harajuku I treated them to a strawberry candy, and at a convenience store I bought them some Yukimi Daifuku. As a keepsake, I gave them a pair of chopsticks, which delighted them very much. Overall, I believe they were very satisfied.

    What Is a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Ameyoko The guests were visitors from Oceania. We had been exchanging emails frequently well in advance, so the tour proceeded smoothly on the day. Despite the intense heat, the guests walked energetically and enjoyed each sightseeing spot. They found the sushi lunch at Tsukiji and the sweets in Asakusa very delicious. I gave them a pair of chopsticks as a keepsake, which they were very pleased with. I also explained the differences between Tsukiji and Ameyoko, and they listened to the stories with great interest. It was their first visit to Japan, and they had been very much looking forward to it, so they appeared to thoroughly enjoy the full-day Tokyo tour. Overall, I believe they were very satisfied.

    What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji and Yanesen The guests were visitors from North America. The guests were very charming and pleasant, and we were able to proceed with the tour in a warm and enjoyable atmosphere throughout. From our email exchanges beforehand, I had learned that they very much wanted to visit Tsukiji Market and the Yanesen area, so I built the itinerary around these two spots, and everything went smoothly. For lunch, as a new attempt, I guided them to a tonkatsu restaurant in Harajuku, and just as the good Google reviews suggested, it was delicious, and the guests kept saying how tasty it was as they ate. At Tsukiji, I bought them tamagoyaki and strawberries, and I also gave them a pair of chopsticks as a souvenir, which they were very pleased with. Overall, I believe they were satisfied.     What Is a 4-Hour Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from Europe. After Hokkaido they were in Tokyo, and from here they planned to travel from Nagoya by car to Kanazawa and Kyoto. One of the guests had reportedly participated in a bicycle race in Hokkaido. They showed great interest in historical stories and listened attentively. At Kiyomizu Kannon-do they received a protective charm, and at Ueno Toshogu they drew omikuji fortunes, both getting "shokichi" (quite good), which delighted them. When I introduced a washi paper shop in Asakusa, since they were in the middle of building a new house, they purchased washi paper decorated with cherry blossoms, cranes, and autumn leaves to display in their rooms. They seemed to love the tranquil Meiji Shrine. Although it was only four hours, we talked a lot about various aspects of each other's countries. They were surprised that there are no cicadas in Europe. They remarked on the cleanliness and orderliness of Japan and the kindness of its people. I guided them to the entrance of Takeshita Street and ended the tour.

    What Is a Private Guided Tour of Hiroshima Like on a Hot Summer Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of friends visiting Japan from Oceania. On the day of the tour, the temperature reached 35°C in intense heat, but by taking regular breaks and using shaded spots for explanations at the sightseeing locations, everyone was able to take part in the tour without any problems. Hiroshima was the final destination of their stay in Japan, and they listened attentively to explanations about the atomic bombing and the history of Hiroshima. In particular, they were very familiar with the story of Sadako and the paper cranes, and on the day they brought cranes they had folded themselves and offered them at the box of the Children's Peace Monument. At the guests' request, the tour ran for seven hours, so we were unable to visit Shukkeien Garden, but overall I felt they were very satisfied.

    Hi! My name is Kazuhisa To. I was born in Nagasaki Prefecture and spent a total of approximately 17 years there. After graduating from university and completing graduate school, I moved to Hiroshima in 1984. Hiroshima has been my home base for more than 42 years, including approximately five and a half years during which I was posted to Germany and the United States. I worked as an engineer at Mazda Motor Corporation for 40 years. While working at Mazda, I earned a Ph.D. in Engineering through a doctoral program designed for working professionals at a national university. During the final five years of my career at Mazda, I was assigned to Hiroshima University, where I served as a Specially Appointed Professor and Deputy Director of a research center. In this role, I led the development of the center’s organizational and operational framework and advanced more than 20 industry–university collaborative research projects across four major research programs, contributing to regional revitalization. Living in Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Germany, and the United States has deepened my appreciation for the distinct histories and cultures of different regions and broadened my international perspective. Drawing on these experiences, I strive to offer tours that allow guests from around the world to feel comfortable and relaxed while enjoying a genuinely engaging experience. After retiring from Mazda at the end of March 2024, I embarked on a new chapter in my life as a licensed local guide in Hiroshima. In addition to renowned destinations such as Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima, I am delighted to introduce guests to Hiroshima’s history, culture, natural beauty, local cuisine, and everyday life, tailoring each tour to their individual interests and preferences.     What Is a Private One-Day Sado Island Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were very excited and delighted to travel by jetfoil. The jetfoil timetable had changed after the Obon period, moving about one hour earlier than originally planned. Since the guests also wanted to see many different places, we bought lunch at a convenience store (the Mano branch) and ate it in the car. The weather was pleasant and not too hot, so they enjoyed their meal in a cheerful, picnic-like atmosphere while taking in the lush green nature of Sado. The guests were full of curiosity, and wherever we went they communicated enthusiastically with the locals using gestures. At the Sado Gold Mine, they were fascinated by the history, and at "Doyu no Warito" they marveled at the enormous cleft in the mountain. At the museum, they let out big shouts as they tried to lift a gold bar in the lifting challenge, truly enjoying the gold mine experience with their whole bodies. They said the mine tunnels were indeed cold and that they were glad they had brought jackets. (Even though they were fairly sturdily built, they still felt the chill.) The taxi driver skillfully avoided the crowds from the Earth Celebration, which had been a concern, and thanks to the time saved we were able to stop by the Sado Magistrate's Office for photos, spend time learning about the gold mine at the folklore museum, and enjoy some relaxed shopping. At the gold mine, the two shafts have been reorganized into a single course with a different layout than before, so shopping is no longer possible there; instead, shopping and detailed gold mine learning now take place at the museum near the Kitazawa Flotation Plant. The guests were very pleased with the tarai-bune (tub boat) ride experience, especially since they were able to try rowing it themselves. They also asked several times, "You can't experience tarai-bune anywhere else in Japan, right?" It seemed they truly loved that special experience. At the Obata Sake Brewery, they tasted three or four kinds of award-winning sake (some free, some paid) and, having already decided before their trip to Japan which sake to buy, they excitedly purchased several bottles to take home. They were grateful to the staff for listening to their various requests and responding flexibly. They also said they would like to come back to Niigata and Sado someday and spend several days here. Overall, the guests were very easygoing and eager to try as many experiences as possible in a single day, so it seems they were satisfied with this efficient and enjoyable tour.
