What Is a Private Nara Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nara Park, Todaiji, and Kofukuji
Today's guests were a group visiting from Europe. The sky was cloudy with occasional light rain, which made for perfect weather to explore slowly on foot. We started at Kasuga Taisha Shrine. The guests were completely captivated by the large number of deer they saw for the first time and took many photos again and again. Today there were especially many fawns, which delighted them. However, they were surprised that the deer became quite aggressive when being fed. After lunch at the Emado Chaya teahouse near Todaiji, we went from Nigatsudo Hall through the bell tower to the Great Buddha Hall. There were not many people around, so it was nice to be able to look around at a relaxed pace. We passed through Nara Park and went to Kofukuji Temple, where we viewed the Buddhist statues inside the Tokondo Hall. After that, we ate kusa mochi from Nakatanidou and returned to Kyoto. I believe they enjoyed themselves.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
