    Title: What Is a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, and Shinjuku The guests were a lovely group from North America with a wonderful, warm rapport. They mentioned an interest in history (especially shrines and temples) and food, so at Tsukiji they had many questions (they seemed keen to see the auction at Toyosu, so I explained they should go early by taxi to arrive by 5:30). At Yonemoto Coffee, they were eager to try the coffee and placed an order. Honganji Temple was holding a memorial service, so unfortunately we could not approach the altar area, but they were interested in offering incense and using the purification fountain and gave both a try. At Namiyoke Shrine, after my explanation, they mentioned that they eat a lot of eggs, so they enjoyed taking a commemorative photo in front of the egg monument. We kept Shibuya brief and headed toward Harajuku Station, but after boarding the Yamanote Line at Shibuya Station, I was startled when a person forced the closed doors open to get off and even tried to push one of the guests out. Fortunately nothing serious happened, but it was truly regrettable that the guests were made to feel uncomfortable, and it was extremely poor conduct. At Meiji Shrine, they were interested in the waka poetry and wrote their wishes on an ema votive tablet. On Takeshita Street, they were fascinated by the animal cafés and considered which ones to visit on another day. On the way back we passed Togo Shrine, where, as expected, they enjoyed the beautiful koi in the pond. When I asked to take a photo of them with the koi, they happily took a commemorative photo in the same way, which was very heartwarming. Things were going well up to that point, but I completely forgot that Shinjuku Gyoen is closed on Mondays, for which I was truly sorry (a lesson learned). As a silver lining, they were able to shop in the basement food hall of the Isetan department store in Shinjuku and had time on the rooftop to ease their hunger. Since their dinner spot for the day was Kagurazaka, one of my favorite areas, I shared how to get there and recommended some well-known and favorite restaurants, and I was also able to give details on the Fukagawa area as a destination for the following days (since we could not visit a garden today, I recommended Kiyosumi Garden, along with Fukagawa Fudodo, and, as they liked Japanese sake, Orihara Shoten, all of which the guests recorded on their phones). In Kabukicho, they were surprised when I explained the host clubs with their many signs, and when I introduced a fugu restaurant on the way to Golden Gai, one of them said they wanted to eat it while the other reacted with reluctance to a poisonous fish, which made for an amusing exchange to observe. The guests were very lively and refreshing, never sitting down no matter how many seats were open on the train and walking rather than standing still on escalators. Despite my mistake, I received words of gratitude at the end, which I will take as encouragement for the future.

    What Is a 4-Hour Private Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, and Kuromon Market The guests this time were visitors from Europe who were sightseeing in Japan. They ran a small travel agency and had come to Japan to prepare a "Japan travel" plan they would begin offering the following year. Prior communication and itinerary coordination were done in advance with one of the guests. Their requests were: (1) help obtaining tickets using a Japan Rail voucher, along with other assistance, and (2) a tour of Osaka's representative sightseeing spots such as Dotonbori. After some discussion, the itinerary (a 4-hour course) was set as "Osaka Station (ticket arrangement) ⇒ Osaka Castle ⇒ Dotonbori" (with Kuromon Market added on the spot). On the day, we were able to meet about 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled meeting time (9:00), and after confirming the plan we set off right away. At the start it was rather cloudy and a little chilly, but the sun came out from time to time, making for fairly good conditions. At the "Midori no Madoguchi" ticket office at Osaka Station, since we arrived before it opened (9:30), we had to wait about 10 minutes, but the procedure went smoothly and finished quickly, and we headed to our first stop, Osaka Castle. At Osaka Castle, I explained that "the exterior of Osaka Castle is a faithful reproduction, but the interior is a museum." The response was, "the scenery is wonderful, but there's no need to go inside," so we only viewed the exterior and moved on to Dotonbori. At Dotonbori, I explained the history and culture of Osaka as a "merchant city" and a "city of ordinary people" (especially its food culture), and had them try "takoyaki" for lunch. By the time we finished at Dotonbori, there was still nearly an hour of guiding time left, so I suggested, "Let me show you the nearby Kuromon Market," and we walked around Kuromon Market. The guests commented, "Dotonbori feels like a festival every day, but at Kuromon Market you can sense the daily life of ordinary people. I prefer this over Dotonbori." At the final parting, when I asked, "Was today's Osaka tour helpful for planning your Japan travel?" the answer was, "It was very helpful, and I'm grateful for the guidance." They said that tomorrow they would visit the "Expo," and afterward would travel to Nara, Kyoto, and Tokyo, spending two weeks in all.

    What's a Private Shopping Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nezu, Ameyoko, Asakusa, and Harajuku I guided the guests visiting from North America. They did a great deal of small shopping throughout the day. They bought a good-luck charm at Nezu Shrine, Japanese snacks at a confectionery shop in Ameyoko, ningyo-yaki, strawberry candy, and a menchi croquette in Asakusa, along with a jinbei and a happi coat, toothbrushes and cosmetic brushes at Kanaya Brush, a Kitty mascot and a hair accessory in Harajuku, and cosmetics at a drugstore. At Senso-ji Temple, I lost sight of one of the guests, and while searching, I was told they had gone back to draw another fortune slip, since the fortunes drawn at both Nezu Shrine and Senso-ji had been unlucky. I worried they had vanished, but I was relieved when we met up again. We had originally planned to visit Yanaka Ginza, but since most of the shops did not open until 11:00, we changed our plans to Ameyoko, which I think was the right choice. The guests seemed to really enjoy Japan, and I believe they had a wonderful time.

    Title: What Is a Private Bus Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from Japan Guide Agency Body: The guests were a group visiting Japan from Africa. The group was organized around the founder of a travel company, and the other members formed a mixed party of several smaller groups. Since this was the first Japan-oriented tour the organizer had created, there were a great many questions on a wide range of topics from the very beginning. Today as well, I arrived early for a final meeting to confirm the details. The organizer had come to Japan in late April to do preliminary research in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo. The guests had arrived in Osaka the previous week, toured Kyoto, arrived in Tokyo the day before, and had gone to Shibuya in the evening (according to the pre-tour meeting, I had originally been scheduled to guide them there after the bus tour, on my way home). It made things easier for me, though. When I asked whether purchasing tickets had gone smoothly, they said there was no problem, as everyone had been given a Welcome SUICA at Tokyo Station upon arrival the day before. To start, the departure ended up being nine people, with one person choosing to spend the day independently. On the bus, there was a lot of chatting, and even when I used the microphone to give explanations, they were not always listening closely. At the Imperial Palace, only a few people stepped out of line to take photos, but at Tokyo Tower it was quite difficult to keep everyone together, and I had to repeat my explanations several times. Furthermore, when we tried to go back down, a few of them started eating soft-serve ice cream, and then everyone began buying coffee and other items, and it became difficult to keep things organized. Once we finally went down, the group got stuck at the souvenir shop, resulting in a significant loss of time. In addition, several people who wanted to take photos from below went missing. Finally, after boarding the bus, one person said they wanted to move around freely from then on and asked to be dropped off by taxi, but upon seeing one running along the street right in front of us, they asked to be let off there and left the group. At Meiji Shrine, we skipped the planned rest at the forest terrace. However, here too, two of the guests said they absolutely wanted to go to the Tsukiji Outer Market and asked to be dropped off at the nearest subway station, so I let them off at Meiji-jingumae on the Chiyoda Line and explained how to get there via Hibiya. This too took time, and by the time we arrived in Asakusa, due to parking constraints, we only had one hour available. When I explained this to the organizer, they were determined to keep to the schedule, so we set a 20-minute free time, but half of the group did not gather at the meeting time. After consulting with the organizer, we decided that I would deliver the luggage remaining on the bus to the Hotel, while the organizer would lead the guests back by subway. While I was preparing this report, I received word that they had returned safely. Tomorrow's itinerary is packed with TeamLab Planets, go-karting, and more, so I can only hope they will be able to move as a group successfully. It seems that giving them SUICA cards and letting them move around on their own had an unintended effect.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Can You Do a Private One-Day Hakone Tour by Public Transport? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. They were strong walkers, so we were able to get around entirely by public transportation. In the morning it was raining and fog set in, so the pirate ship was suspended from operating. Since the guests had already purchased a free pass, we reversed the itinerary and started at the art museum to wait and see. As we did, the weather recovered and we were able to ride both the pirate ship and the ropeway. The weather was changeable, but while chasing Mount Fuji as it appeared and disappeared, the guests fully enjoyed the nature of Hakone.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya The guests were a family visiting from Europe. Some of the guests were experiencing Japan for the first time, while another had previously visited Hakuba and Hokkaido for skiing but was largely new to Tokyo. We had originally planned to visit Shinjuku Gyoen, but since it opens at 9:00, we quickly changed our plans and went to Tsukiji instead. On the subway, the guests experienced a Japanese rush hour. At Tsukiji, they enjoyed tuna, tamagoyaki, and scallops, and bought wasabi-flavored beans and Japanese tea, becoming familiar with Japanese food culture. At Meiji Shrine, they enjoyed a walk through the forest, and after Takeshita Street, they were delighted by the beautiful buildings along Omotesando. They enjoyed a Japanese lunch at a restaurant with few tourists. In Shibuya, after crossing the famous intersection, I guided them to Nonbei Yokocho, Miyashita Park, and the MUJI store, and after the tour they went shopping.

    What Is a 4-Hour Private Walking Tour of Kyoto's Higashiyama District Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. It was their first time in Japan and in Kyoto. On the tour, I took them to the Kiyomizu area (Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka, Yasaka Pagoda, and Koshin-do), Yasaka Shrine, and Gion. It was a 4-hour tour, and since the itinerary allowed plenty of time, we proceeded at a relaxed pace. At Gojozaka, the guests each purchased a small ceramic figurine, and we also made time for a coffee break at a cafe near Yasaka Shrine. Usually I lead tours while keeping an eye on the time, but today I was able to proceed leisurely at the guests' own pace. The guests commented that they especially enjoyed Kiyomizu-dera.

Do only Buddhist supporters of this temple come here, or do people come from all over? 3. It's mandatory to wear a helmet to ride a bicycle where the guests are from. 4. Thank you. We'll go to Takeshita Dori tomorrow. 5. The Shibuya zebra crossing is a good highlight for the group. 6. We eat sushi back home, too. Sitting at the counter, I can see how they prepare it. Subway stations are a community. 7. Our tax is high, but the library, hospital, and schools are free. 8. What is the average number of children per family in Japan, 2 or 1? The guests shared that they have a large family, and mentioned that during Christmas one of them cooks in the kitchen all day until evening for the whole group, while another washes the dishes. 9. 15:00 We're going to jump off here for coffee. Thank you for the pleasant tour. 10. What is the retirement age in Japan? Oh, the same as back home, 60, 65, 70, they need to collect tax. 11.     Can You Do a Private Day Trip in Tokyo Visiting Tsukiji and Tokyo Station? A Licensed Guide's Report This was a case where communication was difficult right up until just before the tour date, but once we met, everything proceeded smoothly. The guests were visitors from North America. Since taking things easy was a priority, I suggested traveling by taxi to avoid overexertion. I planned the itinerary while talking with the guests directly after meeting them, and I learned that they both enjoyed seafood, so I first took them to Tsukiji. There they had a late breakfast, which ended up being the highlight of the tour. After that, we moved to Tokyo Station, where I showed them the Shinkansen ticket counters and the station building on the Marunouchi side. I considered showing them a bit of the Imperial Palace outer gardens as well, but since they seemed tired, we headed straight back to Shibuya. As they wished to purchase a hair dryer at an electronics store, I guided them to the Bic Camera near the east exit, and we parted ways a little earlier than planned.

    I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
    I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
    One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
    Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
