Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like for Guests Who Cannot Walk Long Distances? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from North America. Since one of the guests could not walk long distances, we used elevators as much as possible, took a taxi from Tsukiji to Hamarikyu Gardens, and borrowed a wheelchair at Hamarikyu. On the way to Shimbashi Station, one of the guests missed the last step of a staircase and fell. Fortunately there were no injuries, and we continued on to Asakusa. After seeing Sensoji Temple, one of the guests had already walked 7,000 steps, so they decided to return to the hotel and I put them in a taxi. Afterward, at an izakaya, the remaining guests enjoyed draft beer and oyakodon, and were very satisfied. When ordering by QR code, I mistakenly ordered a large-size ginger ale, for which I apologized, but everyone laughed at how enormous it was. As an apology, I gave them a lemon candy at a kintaro-ame candy shop, and they liked the flavor. Since we finished ahead of schedule, we also visited Yanaka Ginza, which had not been part of the original plan, before heading back. I am scheduled to accompany the group again for half a day tomorrow.

Title: What Can You See on a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Ginza, Asakusa, Yanesen, Harajuku, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting Japan, and the tour proceeded in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We visited Ginza Chuo-dori, Asakusa, the Yanesen area, Meiji Shrine and Takeshita Street, and finished at Shibuya Crossing. I believe the guests enjoyed exploring many of Tokyo's popular spots. The guests loved fashion and were very interested in vintage items, so Takeshita Street was a favorite. For lunch, since the soba restaurant we usually use was closed, I quickly picked a soba shop in Sendagi instead. It had a strong local atmosphere and was full of local customers, with our group being the only international visitors there. To our pleasant surprise, they even had an English menu, and it was very well received.

Kyoto in Half a Day: Kiyomizu-dera & Nijo Castle

    Tour Itinerary

    • 11:00-12:00 Visit Nijo Castle
    • ※ For the guests' return trip to their hotel, we will see the guests off to the Subway Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae station and part ways.

What's a 4-Hour Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Yasaka Shrine, and Nijo Castle The guests were visitors from Europe. Some of the guests had visited Japan nearly 40 years ago. I took them to Kiyomizu-dera Temple (including the Yasaka Pagoda and Yasaka Koshindo), Yasaka Shrine, and Nijo Castle. Since some of the guests had long experience with pottery, I arranged for us to stop by a pottery shop on Gojozaka before visiting Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and they looked at everything with great interest. Regarding the tour, the guests said the guide's explanations were very easy to understand, and that questions they had held about Japanese religion had become clear. This time the tour covered a temple, a shrine, and a castle — representative historical sights of Japan — and although it was a short 4-hour tour, I believe I was able to create a rich and concentrated experience.

  • Tokyo: Toyosu Market & Tsukiji Outer Market

Tokyo: Toyosu Market & Tsukiji Outer Market

    Tour Itinerary

    • 07:00 Meet at Hotel Okura Tokyo
    • 07:30 Toyosu Market (tour the auction area, specialty shops, wholesalers, etc., breakfast with sushi)
    • 09:50 Tsukiji Outer Market (enjoy grilled tuna skewers, yakitori, raw oysters, etc., purchase deboned fish and Rishiri kelp)
    • 11:00 Disband in front of the Tsukiji Uogashi Center

Title: What's a Private Toyosu and Tsukiji Fish Market Food Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests had been informed in advance that the tuna auction at Toyosu Market ends at 6:30, but around 20 to 30 tuna were still lined up in the auction area waiting to be shipped out. In that setting, I showed them a video and photos of the auction that I had taken beforehand and explained how the auction is conducted, and the guests were satisfied that they could clearly picture it. The guests enjoyed sushi at a familiar sushi restaurant inside the market. The head chef casually answered the guests' questions (how many years of training he had done, how the tuna is purchased, how to make the nikiri sauce, and so on), so I believe they enjoyed not only the taste but also the culture surrounding sushi. Thanks to an introduction from the head chef, we were able to enter the intermediate wholesalers' area, which is normally off-limits, and the guests were delighted to watch up close as restaurant buyers purchased seafood that had just been auctioned. (It was my first time experiencing this as well, and I got very excited.) At Tsukiji, the guests enjoyed a variety of foods. They especially liked the grilled tuna skewers, the fresh oysters from Iwate Prefecture, and the yakitori from Toritou. The tour ended in front of the Uogashi Center. The guests planned to stroll around Tsukiji for a while and then head to Hamarikyu, so I explained the route and we parted ways. One challenge is that when guiding the 5:30 auction viewing, the guide cannot arrive in time using public transportation at that hour. For example, if a car could be arranged so that the guests are taken from their hotel to Toyosu Market by 5:00, and the guide could drive there in a private car to meet them, then viewing the auction would become possible. In that case, we would then travel to Tsukiji by bus, end the tour after strolling around Tsukiji, and the guide would return to Toyosu Market by bus to retrieve the car. If the parking fees incurred during the tour and the bus fare to return to the parking area could be covered, I would very much like to try this. I would appreciate your consideration. (It is a shame that I cannot toast with a beer together with the guests, though.)

    • (walk, streetcar, subway) 17:00 Return to hotel

Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour of Sapporo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was fine that day and the temperature rose, making it perfect for sightseeing, and the guests seemed delighted. The view from Mount Moiwa was clear, and although only part of the cherry blossoms at Maruyama Park were in bloom, they could still be enjoyed, which was wonderful. Public transportation and the park were not very crowded, so the guests were able to enjoy sightseeing at a relaxed pace. In Sapporo, buses run infrequently, and at this time of day there was only one bus per hour heading to the ropeway, which was very inconvenient. In the end we took a taxi on the way there, and this can be considered a drawback for a walking tour.

Title: What Is a Private Himeji Castle Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were older visitors from North America. After they arrived in Himeji and dropped off their luggage at the Hotel, I met them at the ticket gate of Himeji Station. The weather was fine and the sunlight was a little strong, so instead of walking along Otemae-dori, we took Miyuki-dori and headed on foot to Himeji Castle. The guests walked slowly and sat down to rest several times along the way. At Koko-en Garden as well, we walked slowly and took our time while trying to avoid the strong sunlight, pausing to enjoy the green maple leaves and the narcissus flowers, savoring the summer garden.

From the Hotel, we walked to Hamarikyu Gardens as requested, and then continued to Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, and finally parted ways in front of Shibuya Station. The guests had a strong interest in buildings and architecture, and were especially engaged in conversations about structures. They also explained to me how the bridge piers of the metropolitan expressway are designed to withstand earthquakes. For lunch, we visited a monjayaki restaurant in Asakusa, where the guests relaxed with their legs stretched out in the tatami seating and enjoyed trying okonomiyaki for the first time. Hello! I am Kyoko who has been working as a guide since 2017. I was born in Kyoto. So, my name comes from Kyoto which is Japan’s beautiful ancient capital . And “ko” literally means child in Japanese. Thus, my name Kyoko means Kyoto’s child, Kyoko. But some guests call me Kyoto. It’s okay, not a big problem.
But to say the truth, I feel like this, ” Am I like an ancient person? No way~!!…” I am mainly guiding in and around Tokyo. Tokyo has two faces of well-advanced and old-fashioned. So, you can enjoy both high-tech technology and historical culture plus delicious food and drinks, too. You will surely be inspired in this city with me. Anyway, looking forward to meeting you in the near future. Thank you in advance!

On the way from a hotel near Nakajima Park to Nijo Market, I spent about 30 minutes introducing the highlights of the Susukino area. At Odori Park, the garden had been almost fully prepared after the snow had melted, and the flower beds had become very beautiful. Hokkaido Shrine is the most popular spot for cherry blossom viewing in Sapporo, but the peak had already passed. Even so, we were able to see late-blooming cherry blossoms and enjoy the atmosphere of spring. Based on the guests' wishes, the tour concluded upon returning to Odori Park from Shiroi Koibito Park. Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Hakone from Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. The weather was fine, but Mount Fuji stayed hidden from view. Even so, the guests enjoyed the nature of Hakone in a pleasant climate. There was an unexpected incident today. While we were riding the ropeway from Owakudani to Togendai, it stopped due to an electrical system problem, and there was no clear timeline for when service would resume. Luckily, we had just arrived at Ubako Station when it happened, so we were able to get off there and were directed to take a substitute Izuhakone bus to Togendai, which we boarded smoothly and fortunately. Thanks to that, we were able to finish the tour on schedule.

Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Yanaka, Meiji Shrine, Tsukiji and Shibuya Today's guests were a group visiting from North America. They were scheduled to board a cruise ship departing from Yokohama Port. It was their first visit to Japan, and they had a limited understanding of the geographical relationship between Yokohama and Tokyo. For train travel, we purchased tickets each time. The following day, they planned to visit Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo Skytree, the Imperial Palace, and Shinjuku Gyoen, so today's destinations were places other than these. Yanaka was chosen from three options: Shibuya, Yanaka, and Odaiba. Since we had time to spare, we were also able to stop by Shibuya on the way back. At Meiji Shrine, both of them drew omikuji fortunes, but at other destinations one of the guests was more active in purchasing souvenirs, while another often waited outside the shops. For lunch at Tsukiji Uogashi, one had ramen and another had a fried food set meal. Neither of them seemed to have much experience using chopsticks, so partway through they switched to using a fork (and their hands) to eat. As we parted, one of the guests told me, "I'm tired, but it was a wonderful day."

    Hello there,
I’m Harry. This nickname comes from Harry Bosch, a character in American detective novels. I like watching films, listening to music and reading books, especially detective stories. I love meeting people from different countries and would like to help them understand Japanese culture and history. I believe that tourism can connect people all over the world and change the world into something truly peaceful. I was born in Osaka and have lived in Tokyo for more than 35 years. I am very happy to welcome tourists from all over the world. I will do my best to make your days fantastic. I look forward to seeing you soon.
