What's a Private Chartered-Car Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who had traveled from Tokyo to Kyoto by Shinkansen two days earlier. They had initially hoped to visit Katsura Imperial Villa, but since the request was submitted only the day before, a reservation could not be secured, so we instead planned to visit Nijo Castle, Ginkaku-ji, Nishiki Market, Kiyomizu-dera, and To-ji. It was a very hot day, and the value of a tour with a chartered car became very clear. The guests were especially interested in Nishiki Market and enjoyed local specialties such as hamo (pike conger) and tako-tamago. At Kiyomizu-dera in particular, they enjoyed the wonderful views. Although it was hot and humid, the driver kindly sprayed a cooling mist on the guests' and the guide's clothes each time we got out of the car, which the guests greatly appreciated.

Hello. It is very nice to meet you. My name is Etsuko Nakaba. I am based in the Kansai Area, which includes popular sightseeing spots
such as the old capital Kyoto with many old temples, Nara, which is well known for vowing deer, and Osaka-the city of gourmet, entertainment and commerce.

The Kansai area was the center of Japanese culture, as this is the place where the capital of Japan was located in the olden times.
I was born and raised in a historical city Kobe, which is also in the Kansai area. The city is famous for its port and old residences
of merchants from Europe and Asia, as it opened its port for forreign trade about 150 years ago.
It is also well known for the premium quality beef-Kobe Beef.
The melting in the mouth texture is what every tourist would like to try. It is also one of the best 3 Japanese sake producing spots.
Sake’s refined taste goes with not only Japanese traditional quisine, but also various dishes from around the worldaround.
I am certain of its good match with Kobe beef. Some sake breweries show traditional sake making process, which are intriguing.
It is also renowned for being home to one of the 3 oldest hot springs in Japan, Arima. The color of the water is gold,
as it contains a lot of iron. It was frequented by a famous warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi 500 years ago.

I love my hometown Kobe; however, I also lived in Tokyo for 20 years. So, l know the allure
of the representative two cities o feastern and western Japan, Tokyo and Osaka.
As a matter of course, there are many hidden gems in each area, in the northern, middle, or southern Japan.
For example, Himeji City, which is to the west of Kobe city is renowned for its 400 year old castle. which is a world cultural heritage site.
It was built by a shogun, the leader of samaurai- feudal warriors and the de facto leader of the nation.
The original structure of the castle transfers us back to the olden times governed by samurai.
Though some people believe that they still exist, the class was abolished aobut 150 years ago due to the drastic political reform called “Meiji Restoration”.
If you would like to, I could take you to the fascilities where you can see authentic samurai’s armor and swords.
Ninja or secret agents, who served feudal lords, do not exist any more either. A ninja museum in Shiga prefecture was a residence of ninja before.
It is not rennovated for the service, so you can enjoy the complicated interior with some contraptions to defeat the intruders.

Japan has distinct four seasons, which makes this country more attractive. Each season has its own attractions.
Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing, as the climate is mild and you can enjoy beautiful scenery such as cherry blossoms or autumn foliage.
Between summer and autumn, there is the rainy season which lasts for about a month. This season feartures hydrangeas.
A historical city Kamakura, where the first samurai government started, is embraced by a serene atomosphere in June, as the combination of the
old temples and the delicate beauty of hydrangeas in the overcast or rainy weather is the essence of Japanese beauty.

The southern island Kyushu was also a gate for overseas trade. Okinawa also has its own unique and rich culture, as it was not a part of Japan in the past.
It was an independent country called ” Ryukyu Kingdom.”in the past.
The beauty of the ocean and the unique culture and food have been captivating the hearts of the people all over the world.

Like these, Japan is filled with historical and natural beauty.Furthermore, traditional Japanese quisene is an intangible world cultural heritage.
It would be an honor if I could introduce you even one of them.
I am thrilled to meet you and iintroduce the beauty of Japan to you.

Title: What Can You Do on a Private Tokyo Family Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. I had guided them the previous week in Kyoto, but that day the temperature was close to 40 degrees Celsius and the tour focused mainly on shrines and temples. For this reason, in Tokyo I aimed to include as many enjoyable spots as possible for the group, so I adjusted the destinations together with the guests on the day before starting the tour. Since one of the guests collects goshuin (temple and shrine stamps), we first visited Senso-ji Temple. After that, we went to Odaiba to see the life-size Gundam statue and to shop at the Gundam and Disney stores. We then visited Meiji Jingu Shrine, and finally I guided the group to the Pokemon Center in Shibuya, which made for a tour that everyone in the group could enjoy without getting bored. Regarding the photos taken during the tour, use for promotional purposes was not permitted for part of the group, so the available photos are limited.

What Is a First-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report This was a first-day-in-Japan private tour in Tokyo for a group visiting from Oceania who run a farm. After four days in Tokyo, they plan to continue to Sapporo, Kanazawa, and Takayama, then board a cruise from Yokohama, for a total trip of about six weeks. As another day of extreme heat was forecast, we discussed the plan together and changed part of the itinerary. At Hamarikyu, the guests enjoyed only matcha, and one of them struggled a bit with the unfamiliar taste (laughs). At Nakamise Street, the guests both purchased parasols. Their omikuji fortunes at Sensoji were "bad luck" and "moderate good luck." We cooled off indoors at the Edo Taito Traditional Crafts Museum. We had melon bread on the west approach, and since the guests said they wanted a light lunch, I took them to an udon restaurant, where they enjoyed chilled meat udon and warm "chikara" udon. They mentioned that the humidity was not as bad as they had expected. They said it is currently minus 3°C where they live. Since the Imperial Palace has little shade, we skipped it and went to Meiji Shrine instead, then visited Omotesando, Harajuku, and Takeshita Street, which were on the guests' list, and finally went to the Shibuya crossing before parting ways. At a drugstore, the guests bought the salt candy and cooling sheets that I have been giving to guests every day.

Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from the Metropolitan Government Building Observatory Body: During a private tour in Tokyo arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), the conversation with the guests covered a wide range of everyday and cultural topics. Here are some of the questions and comments shared during the day: 1. We are used to rain where we come from. 2. We once had many bikes when raising a family — one kept at a station, one at home, and a sports bike each. 3. We don't wear helmets when we ride a bike. 4. Is it true that older people in Japan continue to work because their pension is not enough? 5. Where we live, one parent must first take several weeks of leave so that the other can take a longer leave afterward, which the government actively encourages. 6. What is the average number of children per household here? The population of Japan may be shrinking. 7. Thank you. We'll say goodbye now, but we may stay here a little longer. The guests shared that they wish to enjoy traveling the world while they are in good health, and have already visited more than twenty countries across Africa, South America, and Asia. We parted ways at the observatory of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, where they wished to stay a little longer to take in the view after the rain had cleared.

What Is a Private Full-Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Shinjuku Gyoen, the Imperial Palace, and Senso-ji The guests were a group from North America visiting Japan for the first time. They had already visited Hamamatsu and Tokyo Disneyland, and were scheduled to return home the next day. At Meiji Shrine, they seemed impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere, which contrasted greatly with Shibuya. They also purchased several omamori (protective charms) as souvenirs. At Shinjuku Gyoen, they seemed impressed by the beautiful Japanese garden. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with great interest to historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo Shogunate. At Senso-ji Temple, they listened with interest to explanations about the differences between temples and shrines, as well as about Kaminarimon Gate. Since I responded to the guests' wishes as requested, I believe they were satisfied.

I am Seizo Kamiuto, National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (English). I was born in Kagoshima City in Kyushu (Southern part of Japan) and grew up there until the graduation from a high school. I came to Tokyo to enter a University in Tokyo and since then, I have lived in Tokyo for more than 40 years and therefore I know Tokyo and its suburbs and Kagoshima City very well. After retiring from an IT company, I have been working as a Guide Interpreter of English since March 2018. I have guided many overseas guests to the popular sightseeing spots in Tokyo, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji area (Kawaguchiko Lake etc.), Hakone, Nikko, Yokohama, Kawagoe and Kagoshima and so on. I have received good reviews from many guests. I can explain the history and the culture of Japan in detail. I look forward to an opportunity to guide you in Japan. Thank you. Seizo Kamiuto

Title: What's a Private Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Takeshita Street, and the Pokémon Center The guests were visiting Japan from North America. At the time of booking, the group was expected to include more members, but plans changed and the tour was led by one of the guests together with another member of the group. One member of the group was very cheerful and loved Pokémon, and was also very interested in history and culture. We first visited Meiji Shrine, and the guests were very taken with the forest of the shrine grounds. Both purchased ema (votive plaques) and wrote their wishes with great enthusiasm. After taking a break at a café, we went to Takeshita Street. The guests mentioned that they also loved animals and said they planned to visit a capybara café on another day. They had arrived the day before and had gone to a Pokémon Center in Shibuya, but it had been very crowded on that day and they had not been able to make their purchases, so we went to the Pokémon Center in Shibuya. This time it was not as crowded, so they were able to buy the goods and Pokémon cards they wanted. We then had lunch at a restaurant on the seventh floor and returned to the hotel. It was cloudy that day and not too hot, and I believe the guests enjoyed themselves.

What Is a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya It was a very hot day with strong sunshine, so I offered the guests the parasol I had brought along. At first they hesitated to use it, but eventually they did. We walked the itinerary exactly as requested, covering the sightseeing spots the guests had hoped to see, and spent a good amount of time in Asakusa for shopping and taking photos. It worked out well, as this allowed us to stay in the shade. Since the shopping took some time and the sunshine was intense, I guided the guests through only the garden section of the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, and then we headed to the cooler Meiji Shrine. One of the guests asked questions across a wide range of topics, and I made many discoveries, thinking, "Ah, so that's how you look at it." I guided the guests to Shibuya right on schedule, and the tour ended there. I received a tip.

What Is a Private Family Walking Tour of Kyoto's Higashiyama District Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. The itinerary was finalized three days before the tour, and I had received a comment saying, "That's wonderful! I am getting excited!" However, at 8:00 p.m. the night before, they requested a change to the itinerary, which caught me off guard for a moment. As we talked things through, I understood that there were unavoidable circumstances, so I accommodated the change. On the day of the tour as well, after we met, they said, "We are flexible," and just as they described, there were some changes to the plan. They were easygoing, and I felt that perhaps this too is one form of travel. The group had previously stayed in Japan, and one of them was fluent in Japanese. Since they wanted to experience a tea ceremony, I introduced them to a shop near Ninenzaka, and they were very pleased.

such as the old capital Kyoto with many old temples, Nara, which is well known for vowing deer, and Osaka-the city of gourmet, entertainment and commerce.

Title: What Is a Private Guided Tour of Koyasan Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. The weather was sunny, but as it was a little hot, we walked in the shade as much as possible, and toward the end of the tour the temperature rose, so we went inside the buildings of Kongobuji Temple to avoid the heat. Since the starting point of the tour was the temple lodging Fudoin, I explained about the Mausoleum of Bifukumonin, which is located beside the grounds of Fudoin and managed by the Imperial Household Agency. After that, at Okunoin, it happened to be the timing of the Shojinku offering ceremony at 10:30 in the morning, so the guests were able to watch it at a relaxed pace. It was a four-hour guided tour starting at 9:00 in the morning, and I believe I was able to convey an overall picture of Koyasan. At the Danjo Garan, I took a photo with the guests in front of the Konpon Daito pagoda, and as they gave their consent for promotional use, I am sending the guest image.

The 8-hour tour was originally planned to include six stops, but even after running considerably over time, only four could be covered. The initial itinerary was disrupted and time was lost. There was also an unusual situation where the group missed getting off at Saga-Arashiyama Station. Lunch at an Indian restaurant was a good choice. It was a tiring tour in the heat, but it was completed safely.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.
