Since one of the guests was wearing a Super Mario T-shirt, I mentioned there was a Nintendo shop in Shibuya, and they were delighted to go and browse the merchandise. As I was told it "would take quite a while," the rest of us split off to explore inside Parco and buy drinks at a nearby convenience store. Also, regarding the golden monument in Asakusa, when I mentioned it resembles someone's hairstyle, the immediate smiling reply was "Trump" — so everyone seems to think the same thing. It was cloudy today with little direct sunlight, and we spent a lot of time in cool spots such as the shade at Meiji Shrine and CyberSpace in Shibuya, but perhaps due to the high humidity, one of the guests became quite tired in Asakusa and had a slight leg cramp. Dinner was scheduled at an izakaya in Shimbashi from 17:00, and since they wanted to rest at a cafe near Tokyo Station, I gave a brief introduction to the Tokyo Station building and the location of the Imperial Palace (which they planned to visit the next day) before we parted ways. As there will be more opportunities to drink from plastic bottles going forward, and since trash bins are scarce, I felt it was a day that highlighted the difficulty of how to dispose of them.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report Today I guided a group visiting from North America. They were spending their trip traveling to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and other destinations. By the time we arrived in Arashiyama, it was pouring rain and impossible to walk around comfortably, so we first viewed the garden from inside Tenryu-ji Temple. After that, the rain let up, so we strolled through the bamboo grove from the garden. Thanks to the rain there were few people, and the green of the bamboo grove was very beautiful. At the next stop, Kinkaku-ji, there was only occasional light rain, and with few visitors we were able to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The guests really enjoyed the tonkatsu at Katsukura for lunch and also had dessert. We took a short walk around the Gion Tatsumi Bridge area, drove through Hanamikoji Street, and went to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. The rain had stopped and there were more people, but I believe the guests enjoyed it.

We took commemorative photos in front of the Kaminarimon Gate and strolled leisurely through the Nakamise shopping street. There were questions such as "What are the main religions in Japan?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", and "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people follow?" We moved on to Akihabara, and I explained "how the Akihabara electric town came to be." One of the guests was especially a fan of a popular character franchise. After this, at their request, we went to Tokyo Tower. We went up to the Main Deck and walked around it slowly. I explained "the history of Edo and Tokyo." We were able to see Mount Fuji (though it had no snow cap). One guest commented, "I really understand now that Tokyo is a vast, spread-out city, just like where we live." We bought ice cream at the shop. We moved to Harajuku and visited Meiji Shrine. I explained "about Shinto," "about the torii gate," "about Emperor Meiji," and "why the wine barrels are displayed." There were questions such as "What kind of teaching is Shinto?", "When did Shinto originate?", "How many shrines are there in Japan?", and "What is the difference between Buddhism and Shinto?" At the guests' request, we also strolled along Takeshita Street and bought character goods souvenirs. Then we went to Shibuya. We crossed the Scramble Crossing on foot and took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. We also went to Shibuya Parco and the very crowded Pokemon Center, where we managed to buy some trading cards.     What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Walking Tour Like for Families? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. As the group included younger members, I guided them with attention to hydration and fatigue, while making an effort to keep everyone engaged and entertained. Regarding the requested destinations, a request came shortly beforehand for Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-ji, the Arashiyama bamboo grove, and Nishiki Market, so I planned the itinerary the day before. Since the group was staying in Osaka, we met at Kyoto Station and first went to Fushimi Inari. I taught the group about what the foxes hold in their mouths and asked them to look at what was being held at each spot, and they earnestly reported back each time, which made me happy. For the Nemagari-no-Matsu pine, I explained to some of the guests the wordplay meaning of "rising roots/prices," and had the others pass under the roots as a fun little attraction. When transferring at Kyoto Station to head to Saga-Arashiyama Station, the next local train was already full, and a rapid train departing 10 minutes later would arrive at Saga-Arashiyama only 5 minutes later, so I suggested taking the rapid train instead. The group agreed that being able to sit was preferable, and we took the rapid train. Also, after arriving at Saga-Arashiyama, when they bought breakfast at a convenience store and were about to eat while walking, I explained that this is seen as bad manners in Japan and suggested eating while standing next to the store. They said they appreciated learning about the cultural differences and kindly cooperated, which was great. After strolling through the bamboo grove, we headed to Kinkaku-ji by JR and bus. As some of the guests showed signs of tiredness from the humidity and all the walking, I suggested a break for ice cream available within the Kinkaku-ji grounds, and after viewing Kinkaku-ji, they relaxed for a while in the shade. Since one of the guests preferred not to be on a bus for a long time, we took the subway to Nishiki Market via Kitaoji rather than a single bus. At Nishiki Market, since one of the guests wanted to eat chicken, I guided them to a yakitori skewer shop. It was heartwarming to see the group happily biting into large yakitori skewers. By that time we were nearly out of time, and they said they would explore on their own as a group and return to Osaka, so we ended the tour. It was hot and humid, but there was no rain and no direct sunlight, so I was glad they enjoyed the walking tour. Aside from occasional reluctance to take family photos or ride unfamiliar public transportation, the group was energetic throughout despite some occasional signs of fatigue. I believe the tour was thoroughly satisfying for the guests.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, and Japanese Gardens The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They had arrived in Japan separately, and after spending a few days in Tokyo, they planned to visit Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto, and other destinations. On this private one-day tour, I guided the guests through the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, Yanaka, Nezu Shrine, and Koishikawa Korakuen. I had a preliminary meeting with a travel agency representative, and since the guests wished to visit as many places as possible efficiently, we arranged to meet at the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, the first destination, rather than at their hotel. I sent a map of the Imperial Palace to the representative and designated Otemon Gate as the meeting point. Since I had not been in contact with the guests directly before the day of the tour, I was a little concerned about whether we would actually be able to meet, but we met almost on time. They told me they had come from their hotel by taxi. At their request, we focused mainly on traditional sites, and the guests asked many enthusiastic questions at each location. They seemed to enjoy Japanese gardens, and the Ninomaru Garden in the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace and Koishikawa Korakuen appeared to be their particular favorites. As they wished to return to their hotel on their own, I explained how to get back from Iidabashi Station, the nearest station to Koishikawa Korakuen, and we parted ways.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Namba, Tennoji, and Dotonbori The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America and arrived in Osaka the previous day. They were looking forward to visiting the Kansai Expo over two days starting the next day. We first went to Namba Yasaka Shrine, where they prayed for a safe trip and good health. They were impressed by the large lion-head stage. At Tennoji, they enjoyed the view of Osaka from the Abeno Harukas building and were amazed by the dense cluster of buildings. They enjoyed viewing Abeno Harukas from Tennoji Park, and at Shinsekai they enjoyed seeing Billiken and the lively street stalls, taking a short break with some ice cream. It was quite hot and humid, and they seemed a little tired, but we strolled from Kuromon Market to Sennichimae and Dotonbori, ending the tour at Ebisu Bridge.

    What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour by Car Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. It was their first time in Japan and in Kyoto, and they left the entire plan to me, saying they were mainly interested in temples and castles, so I designed the itinerary. Since some of the guests would find it difficult to climb slopes or mountain paths for long periods in the intense summer heat, I avoided places with long climbs such as Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari, and the bamboo grove for this itinerary. While I was deep in conversation with some of the guests about the history and culture of the places we visited, others kept talking to me about all sorts of things, which was truly delightful — chatting about a Pikachu, or about a mountain bike, and jumping into the conversation. It felt like talking with my own grandchildren, and it made me very happy, though I also had to keep explaining things to the other guests, so it was a busy but joyful day. Their stories jumped from one topic to the next with no background or context, so it required a lot of imagination and was quite challenging. I am very grateful to the driver, who provided a comfortable drive in the intense heat, including a child seat, and also gave me helpful advice along the way. Thank you again.

    What's a Private Fuji Kawaguchiko Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Chureito Pagoda, Fujiyama Twin Terrace, and Houtou Lunch The guests were visiting from Oceania. Their English accent was easy to understand, and we were able to communicate very well. Since they had expressed in a prior email that they wanted to visit Fujiyama Twin Terrace, I booked the tour in advance and set out early for sightseeing at Chureito Pagoda to match the tour's departure time. At the Twin Terrace, they were moved by the magnificent view of Lake Kawaguchiko and Mount Fuji. (There were a few clouds, though…) For lunch, I guided them to the local specialty houtou at a well-known restaurant, and they were delighted, saying it was the most delicious thing they had eaten in Japan. As a souvenir, I gave them a pair of matching chopsticks, which they were also very happy to receive. They were heading from Mishima to Kyoto by Shinkansen the next day, so I explained what time to leave the hotel, which bus to take, how to transfer at Mishima Station, and how to buy an ekiben station bento, and they were very grateful for this as well. As reflected in the high review they left, I believe they were very satisfied. It was a lot of fun to guide them, and I feel we became good friends! They were great to spend the day with.
