    What Is a Private Walking Tour of Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They were very cheerful, and we chatted the whole way around. Since the booking was made only two days in advance, I considered the possibility that they might not have had time to review the itinerary I had sent beforehand, so just in case I asked again about their wishes when we met. They mentioned they enjoyed walking, so we decided to also visit Hiroshima Castle, which had not been included in the original itinerary. They were on a three-week trip, visiting Korea, Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, China, and Hiroshima, and were heading to Osaka after Hiroshima. They told me that Shukkeien Garden was their favorite among all the Japanese gardens they had visited so far. At Hiroshima Castle, they remarked how impressed they were by Hiroshima's resilience, noting that the castle had been rebuilt after the atomic bombing and that the city had recovered so remarkably. They said the appearance of the castle was completely different from those in their home region, and they even showed me photos of castles from their area. Both at Shukkeien Garden and Hiroshima Castle, they were interested in stories related to the atomic bombing, listening earnestly to the account of the remains at Shukkeien Garden and to the stories of the A-bombed trees. They also greatly enjoyed the okonomiyaki we had for lunch, and our conversation flowed well. They showed me photos of their home and we talked about many topics, including events and cuisine from their region. There was also a festival called Ebisu-ko taking place near their hotel, and since there happened to be a free kagura performance that day, I guided them there as well, which delighted them. At the Peace Memorial Park, they were deeply moved by the accounts of children affected by the bombing. One of the guests wanted to try folding a paper crane, so we folded paper cranes together and they took them home. I guided them to the entrance of the museum, and the tour came to an end.

    What Is a Private Walking Tour of Miyajima and Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were cruise ship visitors from North America. This time, since it was a weekday and we were able to arrive at the memorial museum early, the museum was less crowded than usual, and I was able to provide some guiding inside the museum as well. The guests were strong walkers, and as it was a perfect day for sightseeing and the autumn foliage on Miyajima had just begun, we extended our route as far as Momijidani Park. As a result, we walked more than 17,000 steps from the meeting point to the drop-off, making it a true walking tour. We walked around quite a lot, but I felt that the guests were very satisfied.

    Hi! My name is Kazuhisa To. I was born in Nagasaki Prefecture and spent a total of approximately 17 years there. After graduating from university and completing graduate school, I moved to Hiroshima in 1984. Hiroshima has been my home base for more than 42 years, including approximately five and a half years during which I was posted to Germany and the United States. I worked as an engineer at Mazda Motor Corporation for 40 years. While working at Mazda, I earned a Ph.D. in Engineering through a doctoral program designed for working professionals at a national university. During the final five years of my career at Mazda, I was assigned to Hiroshima University, where I served as a Specially Appointed Professor and Deputy Director of a research center. In this role, I led the development of the center’s organizational and operational framework and advanced more than 20 industry–university collaborative research projects across four major research programs, contributing to regional revitalization. Living in Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Germany, and the United States has deepened my appreciation for the distinct histories and cultures of different regions and broadened my international perspective. Drawing on these experiences, I strive to offer tours that allow guests from around the world to feel comfortable and relaxed while enjoying a genuinely engaging experience. After retiring from Mazda at the end of March 2024, I embarked on a new chapter in my life as a licensed local guide in Hiroshima.     What Is a Private Guided Day Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour was for a group of three visiting from North America together with a friend based in Japan. The day was blessed with fine weather, making it a perfect day for sightseeing. We began with a Yuzen dyeing experience that one of the guests had requested. At a private artist's workshop, they enjoyed a simple Yuzen dyeing session. The guest was very pleased, partly because it was a private space. After that, we walked to the Higashi Chaya District. Shima was crowded and we were told we would have to wait behind a large group, so we strolled around the area and finished there. The guests did not seem particularly interested in geisha culture, but personally I would have liked them to enter Shima and tour the teahouse building. I am sure they would have enjoyed it. One of the guests left a jacket in the restroom, and since it went missing we spent some time searching for it. Because we skipped Shima, this did not affect the remaining tour schedule. One of the guests had been looking forward to Kenrokuen. At Kenrokuen, we were able to watch the yukitsuri (snow suspension) work being done, and they leisurely enjoyed the garden.

    What Is a Private Kumano Kodo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were staying at a private rental accommodation. The group included some children. They were families of friends traveling together from North America, and the children got along well. Since one guest followed a plant-based diet and nearly everyone preferred vegetarian meals, we ordered boxed lunches from a local shop. When we started walking from the Fushiogami trailhead, we saw many other people walking as well. Everyone, including the children, enjoyed the walk. The weather was fine, and the guests enjoyed taking in the scenery and taking photos. The adults listened with great interest to stories about the ancient trail and the Kumano Sanzan. Because we spent a bit too much time at Hongu, we did not have much time at Nachi Falls, but the guests were deeply moved by the grandeur of the falls. After the tour, since there were no restaurants or supermarkets near their accommodation, they went shopping at an A-Coop store. We ran a little short on time, but the driver made adjustments, and overall the guests were pleased.

One member of the group, who had been unable to join an earlier tour in Kanazawa due to back pain, was able to take part this time. I explained the total travel time as well as the amount of time available at each stop. We managed to complete the planned course within the allotted time and see everything as intended. However, this itinerary would have been impossible if there had been traffic congestion during transit, so on weekends I think it will be necessary to make significant on-site adjustments to the destinations in Takayama. This time we managed to stay within the time frame, and the guests enjoyed themselves.

    Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like for Guests with Limited Mobility? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of three visiting from North America. It was their first trip to Japan, and they had traveled around Osaka, Kyoto, and other areas since the beginning of the month before arriving in Tokyo yesterday, with plans to return home the day after next. Some of the guests spoke Chinese during the tour, and there were occasional language challenges in English. Partly due to this, one member of the group began taking the lead partway through, which made coordination a little complicated. For reference, the following notes were shared in advance. One member of the group had limited mobility and could walk but only to a limited extent. Initially I planned to travel by subway, and I adjusted the itinerary to accommodate their wishes while checking for barrier-free access. The reply was: "Thank you for the updated itinerary. This list of places is good, let's go with this. Thanks for taking in consideration of the wheelchair ☺" However, they then indicated a preference for taxis: "Hi, just wanted to let you know that they prefer using taxi over trains and bus so they'll likely book them from place to place." Thinking it would be difficult to fit a wheelchair plus the group and guide into a regular taxi, I considered arranging a [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) vehicle, but it could not be arranged on such short notice. I then asked a taxi driver I know and passed along an estimate, but the reply was: "Hi, it's not necessary. I think the taxi app is sufficient. Thank you." So I gave up on that arrangement. This morning, while heading to the Hotel, I received a message: "our hotel is next to the actual pick up location. Sending the information: Our hotel is Hotel." Fortunately it was nearby, so there was no problem, but with so many changes I was feeling rushed. When I met the guests at the Hotel, they said the taxi would not be needed. Before coming to Tokyo, the member who had been pushing the wheelchair had suffered a stomach upset, which had made moving around with the wheelchair very difficult, and that was why the taxi had been discussed. However, they had recovered after arriving in Tokyo. The day before, they had visited Shibuya, Odaiba, and the Imperial Palace. Since I still had some concerns about whether it would really be fine without a taxi, I held off on purchasing a one-day subway pass (Metro + Toei) and we set off. Korakuen (Iidabashi Station on the Oedo Line) has an elevator, but at the transfer between Ueno-hirokoji Station on the Ginza Line and Ueno-okachimachi Station on the Oedo Line, although each has an elevator, you cannot transfer within the station and must go up to street level to change lines. Thanks to this, we were able to stop by Ameyoko, which turned out to be a nice bonus. After arriving in Asakusa, they said they wanted to buy Japanese fruit at Ameyoko, but since we could not go back, they purchased it in the basement food floor of a department store instead. Originally, after Sensoji Temple, I had planned to visit the Kappabashi kitchenware street, but as one member of the group was still recovering and tired, they wished to return to the Hotel. So, although it was a little early, I saw them off and we parted ways.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.
    My course includes 4 to 5 (in 6 hours) sites from the following depending on where I will pick the guests up;

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Lunch, and Shibuya The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They have traveled to many places around the world, and they always make a point of having a local guide show them around soon after they arrive. They showed strong curiosity and asked a wide range of questions, including about economic policy such as measures against rising prices, their impressions of the new prime minister, and Japan's tax system. At Meiji Shrine, they listened attentively to explanations about Japan's modern history and shrines, including the difference between Shinto and Buddhism. There were also displays of chrysanthemums and agricultural products and processed goods offered from various parts of Japan for the Niinamesai harvest festival, which they found very interesting. For lunch, I suggested several options such as tempura and udon, but they chose dancyu Shokudo as something representing "Japanese home-style cooking," and ordered a set meal combining obanzai side dishes. They were very satisfied. The next day, they were planning to meet up with some of the guests who were also visiting Japan for the first time. Since they were interested in shopping, I guided them to Mega Don Quijote in Shibuya before we said goodbye.

Rather than going inside Osaka Castle, we visited the Kaiyodo Museum located in the Miraiza building. The guests enjoyed it very much and did some shopping there. I usually don't have time to go inside, but since we had extra time today, we went up Tsutenkaku Tower. It was evening and the view was very beautiful, so we went all the way to the top. On that occasion, the guide was charged an additional 300 yen. The guests were delighted, and at the end of the tour they kindly gave me a bag and stickers as a gift.

    Bye bye smart phone!! Let’s enjoy Japan without bothering to check up your phone all the time with not AI but a local guide like me. Hi, my name is Mimmy. You may think this sounds like a kitten’s name.
    I use this nickname because it sounds cute and easy to remember. However,
    I actually look rounded, a middle aged woman more like a yellow character of M&Mchocolate, which reminds you of my name easily when you see me.
    I was born in Osaka, went to school in Kobe, went to work in Kyoto and married but still live in Osaka. I am a local, native Osakan. My 3 children are all grown up and live separately except one son. Now I live with one son and a husband in suburbs of the Osaka city.
    I like travelling, walking around the town and anything new.
    I got my guide license in 2017 and started guiding after that. I wasn’t able to work during Covid period but start guiding in 2022 again. I guide Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe and have experienced more than100 tours including bus tours.
    I would like to tell you about the itineraries I usually have in each area.
    In Osaka, we usually go to Osaka castle, Shinsekai and Dotonbori Namba area.
    I think most important part you should see is Dotonbori Namba in Osaka.
    This place is vibrant , energetic, full of 3D signs and different from any other place in Japan.
    In Kyoto, we cannot see all famous sightseeing spots in one day.
    It will be better to visit each area respectively. I recommend guests who come to Kyoto first time to visit East area, Kiyomizu Temple>Sannenzaka>Ninenzaka>Ishibeikouji>Yasaka shrine> Gion area. This area has an atmosphere of traditional old Kyoto. The most Kyoto like places which suit Kimono. You can rent Kimono in a lot of places around here.
    The second place I recommend you is West area: Golden temple and Arashiyama area where Bamboo forest , Tenryuji temple, mountains and a river. There are several nice gardens in this area. If you want to enjoy the nature quietly, you
    should come here when it is not crowded (Winter is the most quiet)
    In Nara which used to be a capital even older than Kyoto, we visit Todaiji Temple where a huge Buddha is sitting inside of one of the largest wooden hall and you can play with deer everywhere in Nara. Naramachi: a small town in this area is a local place where small interesting shops are.
    In Kobe, a port city, you can visit Japanese Sake breweries, Herb garden and the top of Mt.Rokko for viewing Kobe city. A small China town is there, too.

    Now I bet you want to leave home to explore somewhere else you do not know.
    Not only going to somewhere else, we can help you to do several experiences: making tea, making Japanese sweet, making Takoyaki(food), wearing Kimono, making food samples, attending a tea ceremony, throwing Shriken like Ninja, Using bow and arrow like Samurai, , , ,

    Title: What's a Private Asakusa and Ueno Walking Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Body: The guests came from Oceania and had only replied that they wanted to visit Asakusa and Ueno. At the meeting point I could not find the group at first, but when I called out to a couple of visitors they confirmed it was them, which was a relief. When one of the guests returned from outside, I was told that one member who had been corresponding with me by email was resting in the room due to a headache, so we started the tour with the rest of the group. Since the email address included the words "gluten free," I asked about it, and learned that some of the guests followed a gluten-free and vegetarian diet, so I introduced a fully vegan restaurant in Asakusa and T's Kitchen in Ueno, which were much appreciated. As the accommodation was in Asakusa, I tried to show them as much as possible, and regarding strawberry daifuku and melon bread they said, "We'll come back here on our own." Some of the guests were quite reserved and would only speak when I addressed them, but since one of them was studying architecture at university, I brought up Kenzo Tange and Kengo Kuma, and they knew of Tange. It was a little surprising that they were not especially drawn to traditional Japanese houses. They were interested in the unique objects displayed outdoors at Tokyo University of the Arts (probably used for a school festival or similar), and everyone took photos. After finishing Ueno, I suggested T's Kitchen via either Yanaka, Akihabara, or Ameyoko, and they chose Yanaka, so we walked my usual route. Along the way I mostly talked with one of the guests about earthquakes, graves, and tattoos. As for Nezu Shrine, it was on the way to Nezu Station, so we only passed through the red torii gate, but perhaps thanks to the explanation given at Hanazono Shrine in Ueno, one of them laughed and said, "So here your wishes come true more than in Ueno, but less than in Fushimi," and we took a commemorative photo together. Being quite tall, they carefully watched their heads as they passed through the red torii (everyone was about the same height, so I always had to look up while speaking, which was a little difficult). On the way back inside JR Ueno Station, I explained the platform for the Shinkansen bound for Kanazawa, taught them how to charge a Welcome Suica, and we parted at the hotel in Asakusa. If the member who was resting recovered, they planned to head out to Ameyoko together afterward. Apart from finding one guest's pronunciation a little difficult to catch, everyone was very kind and friendly, asking and sharing all sorts of things, and I was able to spend a wonderful day. I hope the member who was unwell recovers so that the whole group can go sightseeing together.
