What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Lunch, and Shibuya

The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They have traveled to many places around the world, and they always make a point of having a local guide show them around soon after they arrive. They showed strong curiosity and asked a wide range of questions, including about economic policy such as measures against rising prices, their impressions of the new prime minister, and Japan's tax system. At Meiji Shrine, they listened attentively to explanations about Japan's modern history and shrines, including the difference between Shinto and Buddhism. There were also displays of chrysanthemums and agricultural products and processed goods offered from various parts of Japan for the Niinamesai harvest festival, which they found very interesting. For lunch, I suggested several options such as tempura and udon, but they chose dancyu Shokudo as something representing "Japanese home-style cooking," and ordered a set meal combining obanzai side dishes. They were very satisfied. The next day, they were planning to meet up with some of the guests who were also visiting Japan for the first time. Since they were interested in shopping, I guided them to Mega Don Quijote in Shibuya before we said goodbye.
