    Tour Itinerary

    • 10:00 Meet at the lobby of Hotel Chinzanso. After re-confirming the visiting locations that had been discussed in advance, we decided on Imperial Palace Outer Garden → Sendagi → Yanaka Ginza → Nezu → Ueno Park → Shibuya Crossing, and departed. We walked to Edogawabashi Station and, since it is on the Yurakucho Line, got off at Sakuradamon Station.
    • 10:30-11:30 From Sakuradamon, we walked through the Nijubashi area and the Imperial Palace Main Gate, explaining the history of the Imperial Family, the current situation, and so on. After finishing, we moved from Nijubashimae Station on the Chiyoda Line to Sendagi Station.
    • 11:55-12:55 From Sendagi Station, we moved to Yanaka Ginza, strolled around Yanaka Ginza, and enjoyed some street food.
    • 12:55-14:00 From Yanaka Ginza to Somei Cemetery, from Somei Cemetery to the SCI Public Bath Museum, and purchased a T-shirt at the Tokyo University of the Arts art shop.
    • 14:00-15:15 In Ueno Park, we visited the Masaoka Shiki Memorial Baseball Stadium, the Kiyomizu Kannon-do branch temple, the grave of the Shogitai, and the statue of Saigo Takamori, then exchanged dollars into Japanese yen at Keisei Ueno Station. After that, they enjoyed takoyaki on Ameyoko Street.
    • 15:15-15:45 We returned by subway to Iidabashi Station, where they requested to catch a taxi there and head back to Chinzanso, so we said goodbye.

However, the moment we arrived at Yanaka Ginza, they eagerly began eating their way through the street, sampling skewered wagyu beef, three kinds of strawberries from Tochigi, banana, ice cream, matcha, coffee, and more. Watching this from beside them was a joy in itself. We had planned to go to Shibuya, but as we talked, I learned that they had reserved dinner at a sushi restaurant in Aoyama for 5:30, and they decided they could head to Shibuya afterward. This freed up some time, so we took a leisurely stroll through Ueno Park while I explained its highlights, and then spent time in Ameyoko, where the guests thoroughly enjoyed some takoyaki, saying it was "very delicious." It was a delightful trip with a truly unique and cheerful group, and guiding them made me happy as well.

    • 8:05 They disembarked a little later than the scheduled 8:00, and we met up safely. Took the subway from Nagoyako Station to Nagoyajo Station.
    • 9:00 Purchased tickets and arrived at Nagoya Castle Honmaru Palace.
    • 10:32 Took the Meguru bus from in front of the main gate of Nagoya Castle to the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology.
    • 11:45 Departed the Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. We boarded the bus intending to go to Nagoya Station via Meguru and then head to Osu by subway, but the guests said they wanted to go to the Japanese garden and then go to the Osu shopping street on their own afterward. They said they wanted to exchange money because they had no cash, so after arriving at Nagoya Station we went to the currency exchange machine on the 11th floor of Takashimaya.
    • 12:20 Boarded Meguru again to go to Tokugawaen. Arrived just after 13:00.
    • 13:59 Departed Tokugawaen. The Meguru bus was full and left some passengers behind.
    • 14:20 Got off at the TV Tower. Took the subway from Sakae Station to Kamimaezu.
    • 14:45 The tour ended at the arcade entrance of Banshoji-dori in the Osu shopping street, near Kamimaezu Station.

    Title: What Is a Private 6-Hour Nagoya Sightseeing Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. I was assigned to this tour on short notice, two days before the tour date, as an urgent request. The information I received from [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) at that time was that the itinerary had been agreed upon as a 6-hour tour covering Nagoya Castle, the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, and Osu Shopping Street, after which the guests would go to Atsuta Shrine on their own and return to the port. When I met them, I learned that their wish was to visit as many landmarks as possible — many places, briefly. However, they were very fond of taking photographs, and Nagoya Castle alone took nearly 90 minutes. At the Toyota Commemorative Museum, I limited our stay to just under an hour to match the bus schedule, and I had planned to go to Osu Shopping Street via Nagoya Station afterward. But once we boarded the bus, one of the guests suddenly said they wanted to visit a Japanese garden first, and that they would go to the shopping street on their own. It was at this point that I realized they had wanted to visit a Japanese garden — Tokugawaen — rather than Atsuta Shrine. Atsuta Shrine could have been made the final stop before returning to the port, but since Tokugawaen is far and in the opposite direction, it was impossible to make it the last stop, so I had no choice but to follow their wish. We arrived at Tokugawaen from Nagoya Station after 13:00, and it ended up being the 13:55 bus by the time we left Tokugawaen. It was necessary to get off at the TV Tower, go to Sakae Station, and take the subway to Kamimaezu, but since I felt it would be impossible for them to do this on their own, I recommended a taxi. However, they preferred the bus and subway, so I gave up on that idea, accompanied them to Kamimaezu, explained how to get back to Nagoya Port, and parted with them at the entrance of the shopping street. By then it was 14:45. During the tour, I asked whether they needed a break or lunch, but their priority was simply to visit as many places as possible. The only thing they ate was the persimmon I had peeled and brought from home. They showed me photos of their family and home and kindly said that if I ever came to North America, I should be sure to visit their house. I believe they were satisfied with the tour, but on my part, I regret that I was not able to finish on time, and that the cause was my insufficient initial confirmation — namely, that they had wanted to visit a garden.

A Licensed Guide's Report from Asakusa to Harajuku The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania, having arrived the previous day. After Tokyo, they planned to visit Kyoto and Osaka the following week before returning to Tokyo and heading home. During our prior communication, they mentioned they wanted to become comfortable with the transportation system, so I gave them a metro route map, a JR route map, and a Tokyo Travel Guide, and explained possible destinations for days other than today. Since they had already booked TeamLab Planets, which is a little tricky to reach, I explained the route (TeamLab Borderless would have been easier). They were delighted by Ameyoko, and when I explained the museums and art galleries in Ueno Park, they said they would come back another day to see them all together. At the Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa, they enjoyed strawberry candy and melon bread. In Akihabara, there were so many things they wanted to buy that they decided to return another day to take their time. Originally, I had planned to take them to Ginza afterward and part ways there, but since some of the guests wanted to see Harajuku while others wanted to shop, I took them to Harajuku. I gave a brief explanation of Meiji Shrine, guided them along the shopping routes of Omotesando and Cat Street, and took them to Takeshita Street in Harajuku, where, after giving an overview, we parted ways.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What Can You See on a Private 8-Hour Walking Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. One of the guests had spent a few months working in Tsugaike, Nagano about thirty years ago, while the other was visiting Japan for the first time. They had arrived in Japan the day before and planned to stay about five days before continuing to Southeast Asia, such as Vietnam, as part of an overall trip of about three weeks. I guided them through Meiji Shrine, Tsukiji, Asakusa, Yanaka, and Nezu Shrine. We mainly visited traditional places, and the guests enjoyed the atmosphere while listening to my explanations. At Tsukiji, they tried sashimi and wagyu beef at standing food stalls. Although it was a fairly long tour of 8 hours, the weather was pleasant and the guests walked at a good pace, so we were able to cover everything smoothly and as planned. When we reached JR Ikebukuro Station, the nearest station to their accommodation, the guests said they could return to their hotel on their own and that we could finish there, so we parted ways.

    Title: What's a Private Osaka Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shinsekai and Local Food Body: The guests were a group visiting from North America. Because some members preferred a slower pace and enjoyed taking many photos not only at each spot but also of the general cityscape, we moved at a relaxed pace throughout the day. It was difficult to fully understand the guests' interests until the end of the tour. If anything, it seemed that taking many photographs was more of a priority than sightseeing at each location, while the others generally followed along. One of the guests was quite quiet and spoke very little, both with me and among the group. I also had some difficulty with the guests' comprehension of English, as the guests appeared to communicate among themselves in another language. The guests had been looking forward to trying local "takoyaki" and "okonomiyaki," so I guided them to a restaurant I recommended, and they were satisfied. I also presented a handmade drawstring pouch, which they were pleased to receive. On reflection, I feel that I walked too quickly for the guests today. I was reminded of this two or three times, for which I was very sorry, and I believe this may have contributed to some of the guests becoming tired. Special note: Today we visited Tsutenkaku Tower in Shinsekai, but I was not able to enter using the guide license I hold. (I hold an interpreter-guide license issued before the law was revised.) The staff on site explained that this license was not registered in their system. Until now I had encountered no problems at major facilities in Osaka, Kobe, or Himeji, so this was very disappointing and somewhat difficult to accept. I did not enter and told the guests I would wait outside, which they kindly understood.

    I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
    real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
    if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

    Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
    that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
    and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
    foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
    Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

    I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
    and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
    great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

    Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests chose Hakone as the final destination of their trip in Japan, so I began the tour by declaring that I felt a great sense of responsibility. Thanks to that, we were greeted by a perfect view of Mount Fuji at Owakudani. For lunch, we bought food at a convenience store and enjoyed a luxurious moment by the shore of Lake Ashi, gazing at Mount Fuji. To help create more lasting memories, I introduced a magic box, and the guests enjoyed the presentation and purchased a rather expensive item as a souvenir. It was carefully carried by one of the guests for the rest of the day. Although the Susuki grass fields and Choan-ji Temple are outside the usual course, I was able to guide them there according to their wishes, and they were very satisfied.

    Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan, having traveled through Tokyo and Hakone before arriving in Kyoto. The day before, they had visited Himeji Castle, where they walked a long distance up to the main keep and climbed the steep stairs, so many of them were exhausted by the time they returned to their hotel. Today's tour was originally planned to include the Sagano Bamboo Grove in addition to the other sites, but the guests requested to remove one stop and finish the tour early, so we ended the tour at 3:00, two hours earlier than scheduled.

    Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Nara? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kasuga Taisha and Todaiji Today I guided guests visiting from North America on a private tour of Nara. We first visited Kasuga Taisha, where a wedding ceremony happened to be taking place at the main hall, which delighted the guests very much. After that, we walked into Todaiji from the Nigatsudo side, and the guests were pleased with the view from Nigatsudo. We had an early lunch at the Todaiji Emado Chaya teahouse, and since it was their first time trying udon, they were delighted and said it was delicious. The guests were amazed by the Great Buddha in the Great Buddha Hall of Todaiji, and they enjoyed feeding the deer as well. They also seemed very interested in the Naramachi Nigiwai no Ie. Because we took a route with fewer people, they were happy to be able to take many great photos. I believe they had a very enjoyable time.

    Title: What Is the Toyosu Tuna Auction Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toyosu Market and Tsukiji I had the pleasure of guiding the guests, who have been living in Japan for two years, to see the tuna auction at Toyosu Market. They have become quite accustomed to Japanese cuisine and had previously visited the Tsukiji Outer Market on their own. While enjoying sushi and sashimi, they became eager to see a tuna auction in person, which is why they chose this tour and even stayed at a hotel in Toyosu specifically for it. After the visit to Toyosu Market, I guided them around Tsukiji, where they were able to watch a 160kg bluefin tuna being cut up right before their eyes at the storefront of a specialty tuna shop.

    Title: What Can You See in a 4-Hour Private Walking Tour of Kanazawa? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from Europe and enjoying a trip to Japan after stopping in Oceania beforehand. Since they had requested in advance to see as many places as possible within four hours, we started at Oyama Shrine, and I managed to cover the planned course, including Myoryuji Temple. At Kenrokuen Garden, the visit became quite fast-paced in order to keep to the schedule, but the guests enjoyed it. On the day, the guests asked to finish in the Nagamachi and Omicho Market area, so we visited only the Nomura Family Residence and then moved to Omicho Market, where the tour concluded.
