A Licensed Guide's Report This tour was for a guest whose cruise had been delayed due to a typhoon, resulting in a schedule change, and the itinerary carried over from the one originally planned. The day before the tour, I received word that part of the group was not feeling well, so on the day the tour was conducted for just one of the guests. Since it was for a guest, I matched their pace and conducted the tour slowly and comfortably. The guest expressed fresh surprise and delight at the things we saw and ate, and in many moments showed curiosity by asking things like "how do you say this in Japanese." It became a happy day that gave me a strong sense of the joy of being a guide.

The itinerary had been difficult to finalize during our prior communication, and the plan we had roughly agreed on changed again on the day itself, but since we had a chauffeur-driven car, we were able to get around without any problems. We had suddenly decided to visit Shinjuku Gyoen, but I had not realized it was closed on Mondays. Just before arriving, we noticed the gate was closed, so I apologized and we visited the Meiji Jingu Inner Garden instead. One of the guests walked slowly and could not walk for long distances, so I made various adjustments: avoiding crossing at signals when it would be a strain, resting on benches along the way, and walking at a slow pace. Since a chrysanthemum exhibition was being held at Meiji Shrine, the guests were very pleased with that, and to avoid too much walking we ultimately did not visit the garden. At Takeshita Street, one of the guests said they did not mind waiting in the car, so I walked around with the rest of the group. They were very kind, enjoyed each of the places we visited, and expressed their gratitude. They especially liked Sensoji Temple. I had heard from the previous day's guide that the guests enjoyed shopping, so I had set aside shopping time in Shibuya or Omotesando. However, they decided they did not need to shop today, so after Shibuya we returned to the hotel. Although it was before the scheduled end time, we finished with their consent. For shopping, they bought face masks and rice crackers at Nakamise Street, prayer beads at Sensoji Temple, and candy at a convenience store.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, and Shinjuku Gyoen The forecast was for a cloudy day with occasional weak sunshine, but it rained partway through, so we bought plastic umbrellas to manage. In Asakusa, the guests took their time shopping and enjoyed themselves. To save time, we bought some Choco Monaka Jumbo ice cream and other items at a convenience store in Asakusa and ate them on the subway. The guests were visitors from Europe, and they were already familiar with Japanese convenience stores, and the Choco Monaka Jumbo was well received. We continued on to Meiji Shrine and Takeshita Street, and since we were slightly ahead of schedule, at Shinjuku Gyoen I took plenty of time to guide them through the Japanese garden. The autumn foliage colored early this year, and the guests enjoyed it. I also guided them through the greenhouse, where they enjoyed a variety of flowers. We finished by visiting Golden Gai. A tip was received.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Takamatsu Like for Cruise Ship Passengers? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were passengers arriving on a cruise ship. They were visitors from North America, and the members of the group had met on a cruise ship tour in Alaska eight years earlier. Since a chartered taxi had been arranged for the day, there was no need to hail a taxi for each leg of the trip, and the driver was very experienced, which made everything very easy. Unfortunately it drizzled from time to time, but it was nothing serious. The guests requested that they did not need to see each site in great detail and preferred to keep visits as short as possible, so I adjusted the pace accordingly. They praised Ritsurin Garden as a very beautiful garden. At the top of Yashima, the view below could not be enjoyed due to the fog, but unexpectedly we were able to view artworks from the Setouchi Triennale displayed on the slope of the "Yashimaru" area. They also enjoyed the tanuki associated with Yashima-ji Temple. They praised the udon at Waraya as truly delicious. At Takamatsu Castle, they enjoyed the chrysanthemum bonsai display that happened to be taking place at the same time. When they kept saying "mum, mum," I wondered what it meant, but it turned out to be short for chrysanthemum. We returned to the cruise ship by the chartered taxi right on schedule. I believe they enjoyed Takamatsu.

    What's a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Sumo, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine At the request of the guests, we met at a sumo stable after a sumo stable visit. The guests wished to visit a samurai museum, so the original plan was to go to Asakusa and then Shinjuku, but on the day I learned that the museum in Shinjuku was closed, so I quickly substituted Meiji Shrine, resulting in the route described above. After meeting, we visited the Sumo Museum, but the exhibits there were rather sparse, which was a little disappointing to me. In Asakusa, the guests wished to eat gyoza and tempura; they were satisfied at a gyoza restaurant, took their time exploring Asakusa, bought souvenirs, and then headed to Meiji Shrine. There were many questions about religion. On Takeshita Street as well, the guests enjoyed eating crepes and buying souvenirs. I saw them off at their hotel, and the tour concluded.

    What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama, and Fushimi Inari The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. A jumbo taxi was arranged from 13:00 to 17:00. Despite the light rain, we visited Kinkaku-ji and Arashiyama. At Kinkaku-ji, the pavilion was beautifully reflected on the mirror pond, and we took photographs. At Tenryu-ji Temple in Arashiyama, the autumn leaves had finally begun to turn, and we took more photographs. Upon arriving at Fushimi Inari, some of the guests said they were tired and returned to the Hotel by taxi for the time being, while the rest joined the Fushimi Inari tour. At Fushimi Inari, we saw the beautiful torii gates at sunset, then traveled by train to a dinner restaurant near Maruyama Park. (The guests who had returned earlier joined the restaurant by taxi.) Everyone enjoyed beer and sake, ordered à la carte dishes, and had lively conversation. After the meal, we walked back to the Hotel, ending the tour.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Rikugien, Yanesen and the Imperial Palace The guests were visitors from North America, visiting Japan for the first time. They had arrived at Haneda Airport the previous evening and taken a taxi to their hotel. This trip to Japan was to celebrate a special milestone. The guests were on a 14-day visit to Japan. Starting the day after next, they planned to travel to Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, and then return to Tokyo before heading home. They love Japanese food, especially sushi, and said they intended to "eat as much sushi as possible" during their stay. It was a tour under light rain. First, the guests wanted to buy a "Welcome Suica Card," so we went to the Ekitabi Concierge at Ueno Station. It was extremely crowded with international tourists. From there, we first headed to Asakusa. Despite the light rain, it was as crowded as ever. We started from in front of the Kaminarimon Gate. I explained the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo, the purpose of the five-story pagoda, what Buddhism is, and the differences between Buddhism and Shinto. We took commemorative photos at the Kaminarimon Gate, in front of the five-story pagoda, and at various other spots. We strolled slowly through the Nakamise shopping street. There were also questions such as "What are Japan's major religions?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people follow?", and "How many Christians are there?" Next we went to Rikugien Garden. The guests said they love Japanese gardens, and mentioned that they often go to see the cherry blossoms in Washington, where it is always extremely crowded. They said the pine trees were especially wonderful, and that the surrounding area felt like a quiet residential neighborhood, which was calming. We then moved to the Yanaka-Nezu-Sendagi (Yanesen) area. The guests had requested to see old townscapes of Tokyo. We strolled slowly through Yanaka Ginza, where they purchased some matcha. They said they loved townscapes like this. We moved to Nezu Shrine. Within the grounds, despite the rain, there were many families visiting for the Shichi-Go-San celebration. I explained about Shinto, about torii gates, and about the history of Edo and Tokyo. As we passed through the torii gates, I also explained about Inari shrines. There were questions such as "What kind of religion is Shinto?" and "Why did Shinto arise?" At this point the guests said they were getting hungry and wanted a light lunch. We headed to Hibiya Chanter and ordered soba. We moved to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. I explained the history of Japan from Edo to Meiji, the Meiji Restoration, why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace, and the history of the imperial family. There were questions and comments such as "What happened to the shoguns and samurai after the Meiji Restoration?", "Does the current Emperor of Japan hold political power?", "Who were the emperors of different eras?", and "Can a woman become emperor?" There were also comments and questions such as "The streets are so clean, with no litter." "We don't see any homeless people." "Are there no pickpockets on the trains?" and "Is it safe to walk around late at night? Our family member lives in a major North American city and has been robbed and had things snatched several times, so even during the day one cannot feel at ease." I saw the guests off at Shinagawa Station, ending the tour.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was cold with light rain to cloudy skies for most of the day. Since some of the guests walked slowly, the group moved at a gentle pace overall, and we used elevators and escalators partway. At Sensoji Temple, one of the guests decided to return by taxi, so I saw them off in front of Nitenmon Gate. After that, the tour proceeded smoothly, including a visit to Korakuen. At Korakuen, the autumn leaves had just faintly begun to change color, and I thought it would be a lovely garden during the autumn foliage season. Near the Shibuya Crossing, it was extremely crowded due to the rain and the large number of international travelers. After leaving Ebisu Station, at a point where the Hotel came into view, the guests said "this is fine here," and the tour ended. I received a tip.

    The weather was cloudy throughout the day. The guests had requested in advance that I help them buy Shinkansen tickets for a later day and show them how to board, so I planned the tour accordingly. We tried to buy the tickets at the ticket window in Ueno Station, but it was extremely crowded, so after waiting a bit we switched to buying them from a vending machine. I was a little surprised that the Shinkansen ticket machine supported English, and I would like to make use of this in the future. After that, we explored various spots in Ueno Park and then headed from Ueno Station to Shinagawa Station. At Shinagawa Station, I showed them the Shinkansen entrance, and then the guests enjoyed some snacks on a bench. I guided them to Meiji Shrine and, as requested, took them around the Harajuku area and on to Cat Street. When our time was up, I asked what they would like to do, and they said, "From here we can walk straight there," so we concluded the tour.

    What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Tour When It's Too Foggy for Skytree? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, traveling to Japan for the first time. They had roots in various parts of the world and appeared to be very experienced travelers who had visited many countries. Today's tour ended up being significantly changed from the original itinerary. Originally it was planned as a 4-hour tour visiting Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree, but the sky was cloudy and thick fog completely enveloped the tops of the high-rise buildings. Fortunately, they had not yet made a reservation for the Tokyo Skytree observation deck, and since it turned out they wished to see historical and cultural places anywhere in Tokyo, we agreed to postpone the observation deck—where the view would be almost invisible—to the next day, and to follow a route different from Asakusa today. At the first stop, the Imperial Palace, they were moved by the sight of the pine trees, and at Tokyo Station they were excited by the various restaurants and shops. After two days of sightseeing in Tokyo, including today, they planned to visit Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka, and other places, so I showed them the Shinkansen platform. We walked from the Yaesu exit to Nihonbashi, and in the basement food hall of Takashimaya, they were captivated by all sorts of delicious-looking Japanese bento boxes, fruits, and sushi. They purchased matcha-flavored sweets at the confectionery corner and tried them while sitting on a bench in the station plaza. They were also greatly impressed by the solemn atmosphere of the forest at Meiji Shrine and took many photos. At Shibuya, where the tour ended, they were thrilled by the scramble crossing and filmed videos. At home they keep two large dogs, including one with Akita bloodlines, and they showed me photos. Being such dog lovers, they were greatly impacted by the statue of Hachiko. One of the guests shared a memory of being so moved by the movie "Hachi" that they cried. Since it was the end of the tour time, I recommended a place for them to have lunch, and after confirming the menu, we said goodbye.
