What Does a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, the Imperial Palace, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting from North America who had been to Japan several times before. At Tsukiji, they enjoyed shine muscat grapes, wagyu beef, black soybeans, and more. At the Imperial Palace, they were deeply moved by the calm and quiet atmosphere. Since they liked Japanese curry, I took them to a curry udon restaurant in Omotesando, and they loved it so much they said it was the second most delicious meal they had eaten in Japan. At Meiji Shrine, they enjoyed seeing many beautiful chrysanthemums. We stopped by the Shibuya Crossing, the Hachiko statue, and Nonbei Yokocho, and ended the tour at Ginza Station.

    Hi,
Thank you for contacting the Japan Guide Association to request a licensed guide for your upcoming visit to Japan. My name is Motoko Tanaka. I’m so happy to be assigned to you.
Let me introduce myself. I was born and raised in Tokyo, so it is nice to hear that you are excited about your visit to this wonderful city. There is much to be excited about here in Tokyo. I have really enjoyed guiding in Tokyo and the surrounding areas for more than 10 years.
I live with my husband and a dog named Alice. She was a rescue dog and I adopted her about 4 years ago. Now she is a very precious family member. I have two daughters, the elder one has a child and the younger has a aroma shop in a town near Mr. Fuji. I sometimes visit there with Alice.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to create a special day.
    Regards,
    Motoko

Can You Do a Private Day Trip in Tokyo Covering Shibuya, Akihabara, and Yanaka? A Licensed Guide's Report This private tour with [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) was for a group from Oceania. Fewer participants than expected turned out to join, which became clear only on the day of the tour. In the WhatsApp-style messaging before the tour, the guests had replied that they would send their requests later (mid-October), but even ten days before the tour there was no word. I followed up near the end of October, but in the end no requests came in until the morning of the tour itself. Feeling a little uneasy, before meeting the guests I sent a message via messaging app explaining that I would not be able to extend the tour time that day due to personal reasons, that I would be happy to hear any requests regarding the itinerary so please arrive at the hotel lobby by 9:40, and that since the tour would use trains I again asked them to prepare cash. The guests replied to confirm. When I arrived at the meeting point, it turned out the number of participants was lower than expected. The guests requested "modern, contemporary places rather than shrines and temples." When we arrived in Shibuya, we crossed the famous scramble crossing, and the guests wanted a café break, ordering crème brûlée and coffee (I accompanied them, but we paid separately) and chatting. During our conversation they mentioned that they had already toured western Japan and that Kyoto had made a strong impression on them. Afterward, while guiding them in Akihabara, the guests bought some Pokémon character goods at a shop on Chuo-dori. They then wished to buy MARVEL character goods as well. I inquired at two or three shops along Chuo-dori, but was told that here in Akihabara, Japanese anime goods make up the majority and there are few shops handling MARVEL character goods. I was told the same thing at a figure shop on the second floor of Radio Kaikan, and they showed us a MARVEL figure, but as it cost around 10,000 yen the guests decided against it. Instead they bought three pieces of Demon Slayer character goods (from around 700 yen each) that were next to the register. At this point the guests said they would like to finish at a ramen shop near their hotel, so I switched the next destination to a quick tour of the Yanaka shopping street. At a sweet-potato specialty shop, they bought some now-popular Korean-style potato chips and ate them on the spot. While we were moving, they asked about access to sumo-related entertainment facilities near Mount Fuji and in Ryogoku, so I shared the relevant links and access information via messaging app. We managed to return to JR Shinjuku Station on schedule, and I guided them to a ramen shop near their hotel, where we parted with smiles.

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Hiroshima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Following prior communication, the meeting point was changed from Itsukaichi Port to Hiroshima Station. Because the guests had requested "a traditional Japanese breakfast," I ordered a grilled salmon set meal at a restaurant. They were especially satisfied with the tamago kake gohan (rice with raw egg). At Shukkeien Garden, the guests took many photos and enjoyed themselves. They shared the impression, "It feels like traveling back in time to when the garden was created, but it's interesting that you can see so many concrete buildings outside the garden." At the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims, when I explained that the register of names is updated every year, the guests commented, "We need to be aware that we too are participants in the questions of war." Here as well, we made paper cranes with chiyogami paper I had brought and offered them in front of the Children's Peace Monument. At the observation deck of the Orizuru Tower, the guests showed expressions and voices of deep emotion at the view overlooking the Atomic Bomb Dome. Near the end, I used a taxi dispatch app and, after sending the guests to Itsukaichi Port, we parted ways. This time there were many spots different from my usual tours, and there were many parts that were new even to me, but I was relieved that I was able to help the guests enjoy Hiroshima.

Title: What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toshogu Shrine and Yuba Cuisine The guests were visitors from North America. The tour had originally been assigned for October, then scheduled for May, but at the guests' request it was moved to today. They had very warm personalities. One of the guests spoke English quite quickly, and I had some difficulty catching everything. The other guest also began speaking faster, but whenever I asked for clarification, they kindly repeated things slowly and clearly, so I may have made them feel they had to accommodate me. One of the guests listened very attentively and occasionally took notes (and perhaps sometimes made recordings), which made me careful not to misspeak or say anything careless. Still, having such an attentive listener was rewarding, and it made for a very fulfilling day. One of the guests seemed to have difficulty walking, so we walked as slowly as possible and were especially careful on the stairs. The steep steps at Toshogu Shrine were challenging in places where there were no handrails. We took a coffee break along the way so they would not get too tired. One of the guests said they liked Japanese tea and showed me photos of wearing a kimono and experiencing a tea ceremony in Tokyo. Since they enjoyed Japanese things, I suggested trying yuba cuisine, a specialty of Nikko, and they ate it with great curiosity. However, all of the dishes seemed new to them, and they found it a bit challenging, including using chopsticks. It made me think that even for guests from North America, those from areas without much of a Japanese community might prefer things that are not too distinctly Japanese.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. They had been planning a trip to Japan for ten years and were finally able to make it happen. They had a strong interest in Japanese culture and history, and asked many questions during the tour. The weather was wonderful, so the explanations tended to run longer and we were able to proceed at a relaxed pace. One of the guests seemed a little less comfortable with English, but I could tell they were trying their best to ask questions in English, and I did my best to understand. I was grateful for the help provided by the other guest. They enjoyed the tour very much.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, Nijo Castle, and Nishiki Market This was an interpreter-guide tour for the group in Kyoto. In our email discussion beforehand, the guests had expressed a wish to visit the Monkey Park, but the day before the tour, one of the guests contacted me to say their ankle was not in good condition. I explained that the Monkey Park requires climbing a hill, and that the Okochi Sanso Garden also involves going up and down slopes to view the garden. In response, the guests decided to skip the Monkey Park but still wished to visit the Okochi Sanso Garden, so I took them there. One of the guests had purchased a support brace the previous day and was wearing it on their foot. I guided them slowly and carefully to minimize the strain on the foot as much as possible. One of the guests was interested in the dyed fabrics of the Kimono Forest at Arashiyama Station on the Randen line, and also showed interest in Japanese gardens. Instead of the Monkey Park, I took them to Nijo Castle. Because they stopped at several shops in the Teramachi shopping arcade to do some shopping, it was already past 14:30 when we arrived at Nishiki Market. I assisted with ordering when the guests had a meal at Nishiki Market, and the tour concluded there. One of the guests preferred to decline photographs for privacy reasons, but another guest agreed to be photographed, so the photo shows only that guest.

What Is a Private Shizuoka Tour with Mount Fuji Views Like? A Licensed Guide's Report We met successfully at the port a little early, and at Miho no Matsubara the guests were moved by the wonderful view of Mount Fuji, the pine grove, and the sparkling seaside. After that, the view of Mount Fuji from Yume Terrace was also spectacular. The guests, who were friends, enjoyed intellectual conversation full of scientific ideas and inspiration. They listened attentively to various explanations at Toshogu Shrine, including the age of the camphor tree, the torii gate, the bamboo grove, the stone walls hinting at the former castle site, and the reversed hollyhock crest. Since they were happy with a casual lunch, we had a light meal at a family restaurant and said goodbye at the port.

Title: What's a Private Toyosu Tuna Auction and Tsukiji Food Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were senior visitors from North America. One of them was visiting Japan for the second time, while the tour was a first visit to Japan for another, and they joined the tour because they had heard the tuna auction was popular. They were amazed at how systematically and swiftly the auction proceeded, far beyond what they had imagined. They were deeply impressed that everything in Japan, including the trains, runs exactly on time, saying it was hard to believe. They were also moved by the deliciousness and freshness of the sushi inside Toyosu Market. One of the guests had eaten sushi at well-known sushi restaurants in the past, but was delighted to say that today's sushi was the best they had ever had. Since neither of them could eat egg, I consulted the head chef, who replaced the rolled omelet with freshly delivered ark shell (akagai). It was the first time the guests had tried ark shell as a sushi topping, and they were impressed by the wide variety of sushi ingredients in Japan. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, I showed them the wholesaler shops so they could see how the tuna and seafood from Toyosu are sold. At a specialty shop for raw oysters that I recommend, they were surprised by the size and flavor of the Akkeshi rock oysters, amazed by a size and depth of flavor they had never seen back home. Since it was a cold morning, we finished the tour by enjoying warm lattes at Yonemoto Coffee, a cafe once loved by John Lennon. The photo was taken in front of Yonemoto Coffee.

What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Some of the guests were interested in Japanese culture, and they came to Japan to experience it. At the Peace Memorial Park, the guests shared their impressions while comparing what they had read in history textbooks. Their first impression was, "This is very sad; I am completely against war." The mood shifted at Miyajima, where they were deeply moved by the scenery just beginning to show autumn colors. Comparing photos of Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, which they had visited a few days before the tour, with Itsukushima Shrine, the guests were impressed and said, "Building a shrine that appears to float on the water — the shrine carpenters of that era were truly amazing." When I explained that those construction techniques were applied to wooden products such as rice paddles and chopsticks, they purchased many souvenirs and thoroughly enjoyed shopping as well. After returning to Hiroshima Station, they treated me to dinner, and we grew close enough that we still keep in touch through a messaging app today. There were more changes than in the itinerary I had originally communicated, but I was relieved that it all ended with the guests being highly satisfied.

Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, Ginkaku-ji, and Gion Body: Today I guided a group visiting from North America. They had already toured Tokyo and Hakone, and were planning to travel to Osaka the next day. The weather was wonderful, and we started with a stroll through Arashiyama. It was not too crowded, so they were delighted to be able to take many photos. The autumn leaves at Tenryu-ji Temple had begun to turn and were very beautiful. The tonkatsu at a restaurant near Ginkaku-ji, which I had reserved based on the guests' request, was very well received. Tatsumibashi Bridge in Gion was also not too crowded, which they enjoyed. I believe they had a great time.

Thank you very much for choosing JGA experience, and please allow me to briefly introduce myself. I’m Kaeko Tanigawa, your tour guide, and I have been showing tourists from abroad around mainly in Kyoto, Nara and Osaka areas. Every year I’ve guided my guests through those areas for over 80 times. I always try to do my best to help my guests explore and enjoy our unique and attractive locations, and I’ve been lucky enough to receive so many 5-star reviews from the guests I hosted. I’d like to help make your visit to Japan one of the most wonderful memories in your life. I’m really looking forward to seeing you soon. Thank you very much.
