    What Is a Private Tokyo Shopping Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Ginza and Roppongi I guided a retired group visiting from North America. The previous day was their first day, and they had walked quite a lot on their own around Asakusa and Shinjuku, and since one of them had hurt their back, I received an email in the morning saying they wished to travel by taxi today. First, at the requested golf shop in Roppongi, one of the guests purchased wear and accessories. At Ginza Mikimoto, one of the guests made three purchases, which came to a considerable amount. They shared that about a year earlier they had lost their home in a fire in North America, and their jewelry had been lost as well. After that, they learned there was a Yohji Yamamoto store and we went to Matsuya. One of the guests wanted to eat ramen, but since another had eaten a full breakfast and did not want any, we split up, and I lined up at a ramen shop together with one of the guests, who enjoyed it very much. After that, the other guest was supposed to come to the shop, but seemed to have walked off in a different direction and did not appear for a while, so we kept in contact and finally managed to meet up. As a result, we went over time. It seems that this person often wanders off on their own, and the other guest was upset. The photo was taken at that moment, so the expressions came out somewhat stiff. Up until then, both of them enjoyed joking around and there was a lot of laughter, and we found out that one of the guests watched the same reality show, which got everyone excited. One of the guests was the type who could not stop talking once they started, and asked many questions. I believe they enjoyed their shopping day.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report Since the sights were spread out, I suggested meeting at Inari Station, but I accommodated the guests' request to meet at the Hotel, which pushed back the tour schedule. It seems to have been a whirlwind trip: the guests came from Tokyo to Kyoto this morning, would move on to Osaka tomorrow, and planned to return to Tokyo that evening. Visiting Japan for the first time, the guests thoroughly enjoyed Kyoto. They were overwhelmed by the torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha. At Kinkaku-ji, they were delighted to have taken great photos. They were also pleased to have bought a happi coat at Matsui Sake Brewery. We traveled to Arashiyama by taxi. Although the tour's end time was approaching, I guided them through the bamboo grove, the observation deck, and Togetsukyo Bridge, and we parted ways at Togetsukyo Bridge.

    Hello, my name is Mizuho Yoshikawa. Please call me Mizu and my name means rice and water in Japanese.
    I’ve been a tour guide more than 200 times since the spring of 2023 in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Wakayama and Kochi. My tour is always original and new, depending on the guest’s preferences, encounters, seasons and weather.
    In Kyoto, one of my tours is to climb Mt. Kurama. It is about 1 hour from the city of Kyoto by train, it is a very quiet and beautiful mountain.
    In Osaka, which is called the kitchen of Japan, I am also in charge of food tour.
    In Nara, in addition to the Great Budda Hall, I guide guests to the temple with a really great view and Japanese wine, sake tasting.
    Every city has a unique charming point.
    The motto of my guiding is ” Ichigo Ichie” Once in a lifetime or seize the day. I learn this concept that the moment will never be the same again through tea ceremonies.
    I like a tea ceremony that is part of the traditional Japanese culture and embodies the spirit of “omotenashi” or hospitality. Through the tea ceremony, we can feel the spirit of “omotenashi” that has been passed down to us from ancient times.
    And I like to travel abroad and domestically, and I have been to 13 overseas countries and most of the prefectures in Japan. Traveling always gives me a new perspective, which is exciting and thrilling. Nowadays, we can learn a lot from the Internet, but traveling teaches us that it is important to have direct experience. When I travel, I feel that my five senses are infinitely expanded, and through my tour, I help all guests to have the same feeling in Japan.
    I was born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is next to Tokyo Prefecture in eastern Japan. When I was little, I could see Mount Fuji from my backyard. There was also a rice field nearby, and I grew up listening to the croaking of frogs. Listening to the frogs and seeing the mountains made me feel very calm.
    I moved to the city of Kobe, one of the Kansai areas in western Japan, which includes Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and so on. I’m not from the Kansai area of western Japan, but I think that makes me sensitive to the differences between that area and the Kanto area, Tokyo, where I grew up.
    Speaking of Kobe, you might be thinking of Kobe beef. Of course you do. There are also other sake breweries in Nada in Kobe. You can also go from Kobe city to Himeji Castle, also known as the White Egret Castle, which was the first in Japan to be listed as a World Heritage Site in 1993.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine The guests were visitors from North America. They told me this trip fulfilled a long-held dream. This time they focused entirely on Tokyo to enjoy an extended stay at a relaxed pace. Their itinerary appeared to have been carefully planned in advance, and today we visited the places they had requested beforehand. We began at the Tsukiji Outer Market. The guests love seafood and had greatly looked forward to eating tuna here, and they were delighted to sample it in the market as well. They especially loved the atmosphere of Tsukiji and mentioned they would like to return another day, skipping breakfast to fully enjoy it. At the nearby Namiyoke Shrine and Higashi Honganji Temple, I explained the differences between Buddhism and Shinto, the influence each has had on Japanese culture, and the differences in styles of worship. Seeing these places firsthand helped them truly appreciate the distinctions, and they expressed a strong wish to learn about them in greater depth. At the Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa, they happened upon a souvenir shop connected to someone they had once worked with, which moved them greatly, and they purchased some souvenirs there. At Meiji Shrine, they were also able to see a Shichi-Go-San celebration and a traditional wedding procession, and they were impressed by these customs unique to Japan. As it was a Sunday, every place was extremely crowded, and by the end they seemed quite tired. Since they had a "chopstick lesson" scheduled after this tour, we concluded the tour in Shinjuku.

    Title: What Is a Private Osaka Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. On the day of the tour, they arrived in Osaka by Shinkansen from Kyoto. They were very energetic and quick walkers, so I added Shinsekai to the itinerary even though it had not been planned, and we still finished within the scheduled time. Although the guests got along very well, their preferences seemed to differ — some enjoyed the lively, chaotic atmosphere of Shinsekai, while others were a bit more reserved. Saying that some of the group preferred to wait outside certain shops as usual, the guests enjoyed choosing souvenirs. Dressed in an effortlessly coordinated way, the guests looked wonderful against the autumn foliage and made for a lovely group.

    What's a Private Sumiyoshi Taisha and Namba Tour in Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe, and we were able to move smoothly between locations. They listened attentively to the guide's explanations at each spot. At Sumiyoshi Taisha, they offered prayers and picked up the small "Go-Dai-Riki" pebbles at this popular power spot, and also purchased the accompanying amulet pouches. Sumiyoshi Taisha was very lively with visitors coming for the "Shichi-Go-San" ceremony, as it was the last Sunday of November. I presented them with a handmade drawstring pouch, which they were delighted to receive. After visiting each spot, they wished to have lunch, so I guided them to an okonomiyaki restaurant in the Namba shopping arcade that I recommended, where we parted ways. Today's guests were very friendly, and when we said goodbye they commented, "Today was truly an enjoyable tour, and we would love to visit again," for which I felt grateful.

    I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
    real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
    if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

    Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
    that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
    and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
    foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
    Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

    Title: What Is a Half-Day Private Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Asia. Since they had requested Mount Misen as part of a half-day Miyajima tour, and were scheduled to take the 6:13 PM Shinkansen to Kyoto that day, I moved the planned 10:00 meeting time forward by ten minutes to 9:50. As a result, we were able to board the 10:00 train bound for Iwakuni and arrived at Miyajima before 11:00. We reached Itsukushima Shrine while viewing the Great Torii Gate and other sights, but since there was a line at the ticket counter and the guests had already visited many shrines and temples in Kyoto and elsewhere, they chose not to go inside. We went to Senjokaku near the shrine, and then headed to Daishoin Temple. Both of the guests were very strong walkers and moved along briskly, and since they did not enter Itsukushima Shrine, we finished touring Daishoin earlier than planned. From the moment we boarded the ferry, one of the guests took many, many photographs. Since they had reserved the Mount Misen ropeway for 2:00 PM, they decided to have lunch before going to Mount Misen at a vegetarian restaurant (Rokkaku Sabo) in front of the Daishoin gate. There was still time before 2:00 PM on this four-hour tour, but since they said they could make their way to Mount Misen on their own from there, I showed them the ropeway station using a map and said goodbye at that point. They were very pleased with the tour.

    What Is a Private Bonsai Tour in Omiya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. One of the guests loved bonsai very much and mentioned that they had already seen a major bonsai exhibition in Kyoto. On the day of the tour, after visiting the bonsai museum, they said they wanted to visit every bonsai garden, so we went to all six bonsai gardens in the Toro area. At one garden, they found a pot with a design they liked and purchased it. At another garden, they considered buying a larger pot but gave up on the idea because it was too heavy. On the way back, I guided them to a food court at Omiya Station where one can enjoy gourmet food from all over Japan for lunch, and then we parted ways.

At Meiji Shrine, we saw families celebrating a traditional milestone. The guests also drew omikuji fortunes and enjoyed the experience. There were many questions about religion. On the way back, I gave a brief explanation of Harajuku. At Asakusa as well, the guests drew omikuji, and they enjoyed snacks and matcha lattes at Nakamise and shops in the surrounding area.
