    What's a Private Tokyo Tour with Tsukiji, Shinjuku Gyoen, and Meiji Shrine Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a large group from Oceania on a private Tokyo tour, splitting the group into two with a fellow [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide based on a prior arrangement, and together we visited Tsukiji Outer Market, Shinjuku Gyoen, and Meiji Shrine. At Tsukiji Market first, the guests were very curious about the various foods and sampled many things, but because it was a large group, it took quite a lot of time. To explain the difference between Shinto and Buddhism, we stopped by Namiyoke Shrine and Higashi Honganji Temple, and I explained the differences between them, their influence on Japanese culture, and the differences and meanings of the ways of worship at each. The guests seemed satisfied with the content, which was new to them. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the cherry blossoms were nearly in full bloom, and the guests appeared very delighted with the spectacular scenery. By the time we reached the final stop at Meiji Shrine, some of the guests seemed tired, so we split into two groups: some headed to Takeshita Street, while the rest visited the shrine to worship. They had become quite accustomed to the manner of worship and did so in a solemn manner. Because we had spent considerably more time than planned at Tsukiji at the start, the tour ended up running about one hour over.

    What Can You See on a Private Kobe and Himeji Castle Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were visitors from North America. We met at the Kobe Port Terminal to begin the tour, but this tour required the itinerary to be revised several times. Initially, the guests had requested the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens, the Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum, Kobe Harborland, and the Motomachi Shopping Street, so I prepared an itinerary according to their wishes. However, the day before the tour, they said they wanted to visit Himeji Castle and Koko-en Garden, and asked whether the tour could end a bit earlier with a drop-off at Shin-Kobe Station. They said they were fine with keeping the Herb Gardens but reducing one of the other destinations. For this reason, I removed the Motomachi Shopping Street and created an itinerary that ended the tour by heading from Harborland to Shin-Kobe Station. However, I felt there could be difficulties with the guests sightseeing in Himeji on their own, so early this morning I planned an itinerary in which we would go to Himeji together with the guide after the Herb Gardens. The concern was whether the guests would agree to cover the travel costs to and from Himeji. When I met the guests a little earlier to discuss this, they were very pleased. For this reason, after meeting at the Port Terminal, we visited the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens, and then (as the guests wished to experience riding the Shinkansen) took the Shinkansen to Himeji, where we toured Himeji Castle, the Otemon Chaya (a light meal), and Koko-en Garden, before returning to the Port Terminal to end the tour. The weather was fine today, and the guests were very satisfied.

    What's a Half-Day Private Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America on a trip to Japan. In Tokyo they had mostly traveled by taxi and on foot, so at the start of the tour I needed to explain how to purchase IC cards as well as how to use the subway and buses. Although we had a late start at 13:00 and the destinations had not been decided until the day itself, I arranged for the Sagano Bamboo Grove to be the final stop and had the guests enjoy Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji. We made it to the bamboo grove before sunset, and the guests liked the quiet Sagano at dusk with few people around. We ended the tour at a subway station near the Hotel.

    Title: What Is a Private Kobe Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America and Asia. Since it was not possible to reach the guests until the day before the tour, I confirmed the itinerary at the time we met. As one of the guests had low vision, the tour proceeded at a slower walking pace than usual. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the herb garden and the Kobe beef lunch. As a result, the time spent at the Hakutsuru sake museum became shorter. At that point, I suggested that we part ways so they could view it at a relaxed pace, but the guests preferred that the guide accompany them to Motomachi. In Motomachi, although the tour time had already passed, I guided them to the shuttle bus stop for the port of Kobe, accompanied them to the shop they wished to visit, and then we parted ways.

    I’ve been a tour guide more than 200 times since the spring of 2023 in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Wakayama and Kochi. My tour is always original and new, depending on the guest’s preferences, encounters, seasons and weather.
    In Kyoto, one of my tours is to climb Mt. Kurama. It is about 1 hour from the city of Kyoto by train, it is a very quiet and beautiful mountain.
    In Osaka, which is called the kitchen of Japan, I am also in charge of food tour.
    In Nara, in addition to the Great Budda Hall, I guide guests to the temple with a really great view and Japanese wine, sake tasting.
    Every city has a unique charming point.
    The motto of my guiding is ” Ichigo Ichie” Once in a lifetime or seize the day. I learn this concept that the moment will never be the same again through tea ceremonies.
    I like a tea ceremony that is part of the traditional Japanese culture and embodies the spirit of “omotenashi” or hospitality. Through the tea ceremony, we can feel the spirit of “omotenashi” that has been passed down to us from ancient times.
    And I like to travel abroad and domestically, and I have been to 13 overseas countries and most of the prefectures in Japan. Traveling always gives me a new perspective, which is exciting and thrilling. Nowadays, we can learn a lot from the Internet, but traveling teaches us that it is important to have direct experience. When I travel, I feel that my five senses are infinitely expanded, and through my tour, I help all guests to have the same feeling in Japan.
    I was born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is next to Tokyo Prefecture in eastern Japan. When I was little, I could see Mount Fuji from my backyard. There was also a rice field nearby, and I grew up listening to the croaking of frogs. Listening to the frogs and seeing the mountains made me feel very calm.
    I moved to the city of Kobe, one of the Kansai areas in western Japan, which includes Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and so on. I’m not from the Kansai area of western Japan, but I think that makes me sensitive to the differences between that area and the Kanto area, Tokyo, where I grew up.
    Speaking of Kobe, you might be thinking of Kobe beef. Of course you do. There are also other sake breweries in Nada in Kobe. You can also go from Kobe city to Himeji Castle, also known as the White Egret Castle, which was the first in Japan to be listed as a World Heritage Site in 1993.

A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were friends visiting Japan, arriving in Tokyo and planning to travel by Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka before touring Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima ahead of their return home. In advance emails, they mentioned an interest in Japanese temples and shrines, a wish to see famous cherry blossom spots, and a request to "cover as many places as possible in six hours." Based on this, I proposed a route of Meiji Shrine → Takeshita Street → Nakamise Shopping Street, Sensoji Temple → Ueno Park → Shibuya Scramble Crossing, and the Hachiko statue. On the day of the tour, the guests expressed a wish to eat oysters and other seafood at a food street after Sensoji Temple, so we made a detour to Ameyoko before Ueno Park. At "Uogashi," they happily enjoyed oysters, an assortment of sashimi, and even "hoya (sea squirt)." The cherry blossoms at Ueno Park were about 80% in bloom and at their peak, which they seemed to enjoy very much. In the end, we managed to complete all five proposed spots (plus Ameyoko).     What Is a Private Cherry Blossom Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Visiting Japan for the first time, the guests seemed to find the cherry blossoms rare and beautiful, and took many photos. Even when I mentioned that we would go to spots where the blossoms were in fuller bloom, they kept taking pictures. On Takeshita Street, they spent a relatively long time choosing souvenirs at the very first shop that caught their eye. Even when I said there were similar shops at Nakamise, I think the same feeling as with the cherry blossoms — not wanting to miss this chance — led them to want to buy something right away. They seemed a little disappointed about giving up on Inui Street, but when I explained that the East Gardens have a similar charm, and that if it was just about cherry blossoms, Shinjuku Gyoen, which the guests planned to visit the next day, has more trees and more fully bloomed ones, they seemed to understand. One of the guests walked along energetically, which was a great help.

Initially I had thought about starting at nearby Shinjuku Gyoen, but since an 8:00 start was too early, we followed the itinerary described above. Takeshita Street was too early and the shops were not yet open, so I handed out an English map and gave an explanation. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the Somei Yoshino cherry trees were about 80% in bloom, while the early-blooming cherry trees were in full bloom or beginning to fall, making it a perfect day for cherry blossom viewing. There were many visitors, and the Shinjuku Gate had been made entrance-only, with a separate exit created between it and the Okido Gate. Shinjuku Gyoen requires advance reservations this weekend. Ueno Park was in a similar state of bloom, and hanami parties had also begun, making it truly ideal weather for cherry blossom viewing. In North America, drinking in public places is prohibited, so the guests were surprised by this.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a group visiting from North America, along with the person who made the booking. They had arrived in Japan the previous day and were scheduled to board a cruise the following day. The tour was carried out according to the itinerary we had arranged in advance. The Tsukiji fish market area was less crowded than the outer market, so we were able to look around at a leisurely pace, and the guests were pleased that they had hired a guide. They also purchased some souvenirs. At Asakusa, we avoided the crowds of the main Nakamise shopping street and proceeded to Sensoji Temple via the back Nakamise lane. One of the guests took many photographs with a fine NIKON camera. The guests were moved by the vastness and tranquility of the Imperial Palace. Over lunch, I introduced a teppanyaki restaurant for their dinner that evening. At Meiji Shrine, we took the customary photo by the paired camphor trees. The guests were surprised that such a space could exist in the middle of a huge city, so I explained the historical changes of the area. As it was the start of the spring break period, finding a place for lunch in Harajuku was difficult even when shifting the timing during this season.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji The guests had studied the Tokugawa shoguns and samurai society in great depth, which made our conversations very lively. In particular, we had an interactive and unending discussion about samurai customs, the sense of what was considered normal at the time (things unimaginable today), how superstitions were understood, and how those superstitions influenced people's behavior, and the time passed in the blink of an eye. We also went to Oku-Nikko in the morning, so the morning light was excellent and Kegon Falls looked beautiful. The weather was also fine (completely calm with no wind at all), the surface of the lake was like a mirror, and the guests were moved by the beauty of the mountains reflected in Lake Chuzenji and eagerly pressed the shutter many times.     What Is a Private Tsukiji, Imperial Palace, and Asakusa Walking Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group of friends visiting from Europe. The tour was originally scheduled for one date, but at the guests' request after checking the weather forecast, it was moved to the following day (having a flexible schedule worked out well). It was their third day in Japan, but due to fatigue and rain they had not moved around much beyond Shibuya, so we followed the planned course of Tsukiji, the Inui-dori path, and Asakusa. At Tsukiji, rather than eating anything, they seemed to enjoy Honganji Temple and Namiyoke Shrine more than anything else. Since they eat a lot of eggs, we took a commemorative photo in front of the egg monument at Namiyoke Shrine, and they visited Honganji Temple twice, carefully examining the Buddhist altar. The Inui-dori path, on the other hand, was extremely crowded despite it being a weekday (my previous two visits had not been busy at all), and we unexpectedly had to wait over an hour, which caused some inconvenience for the guests. When I explained the giboshi ornaments at Wadakura Bridge, one of the guests even joked, "They should just place a giboshi on top of a traffic cone instead of doing a security check (laugh)," but with the sun coming out it became quite tough. Beforehand, taking a break at Starbucks to use the restroom and happen to have a drink turned out to be a good call. That said, the Inui-dori path itself, with its wonderful combination of cherry blossoms and the castle, was thoroughly enjoyed, which was fortunate. We arrived in Asakusa well past the scheduled time, had lunch at Asakusa Azuma, and then, to save time, walked the usual route in reverse — heading to the main hall of Sensoji Temple first, then Nakamise and the Kaminarimon Gate. They were very drawn to the traditional buildings and customs. I also learned they had a strong interest in washi paper, so we stopped by Kurodaya in Asakusa. At the end, the guests told me, "When you come to Copenhagen I'll be your guide, and when you come to Stockholm she will guide you, so just let me know," and we parted ways in front of Kyukyodo in Ginza. After Tokyo they planned to travel around western Japan by cruise, and I hope they can enjoy the cherry blossoms in each region.
