    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and Fushimi Inari Today I guided a group visiting from North America. They were enjoying a long journey of about four months by cruise ship. We viewed the bamboo grove from the Okochi Sanso Villa side, and then went to Kinkaku-ji. It was extremely crowded, which made getting around challenging. At Nijo Castle, we were fortunate to visit at a time when there were few people. Since the group wanted to try tonkatsu, I took them to a tonkatsu restaurant, where they enjoyed their meal all the way to dessert. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, we used the elevator and passed through the Senbon Torii, and since it was not too crowded, it was very pleasant. I believe the guests enjoyed themselves.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Nikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toshogu and Rinnoji The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They wished to sightsee at a relaxed pace, and said that seeing Toshogu Shrine and Rinnoji Temple would be enough, and that if time remained, they would like to visit somewhere I recommended. For this reason, I first gave them a brief introduction to the Shinkyo Bridge. After that, they enjoyed a yuba (tofu skin) set meal, a specialty of Nikko, at a Japanese-style restaurant. It seemed to suit their taste and they were very pleased. Afterward, we secured plenty of time at Toshogu Shrine and Rinnoji Temple so they could take their time sightseeing. As luck would have it, it was a day with few tourists, and since we had a little extra time, I guided them to Futarasan Shrine and the Toshogu Museum of Art. They appeared to enjoy their sightseeing throughout the entire day, so I believe the guests were surely very satisfied.

    What's a 4-Hour Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkaku-ji The guests were a group visiting from North America. Some of the guests had come to Japan for about two weeks on a student exchange while in high school, and had visited Kinkaku-ji at that time. They were looking forward to taking photos in front of Kinkaku-ji again on this trip. I took the group to Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkaku-ji. Fitting all of these into four hours was quite challenging. Moreover, we started at 10:00, and the first stop, Fushimi Inari, was very crowded, so we could only visit for a short time. Some of the guests said Fushimi Inari left the strongest impression on them, while others were most impressed by Kinkaku-ji.

    Title: What's a Private Hiroshima Cruise Port Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who arrived by cruise ship and wished to travel by taxi. They had inquired in advance about a chauffeured car and I provided the pricing, but they decided against it and preferred to call a taxi from each sightseeing spot, so I made taxi reservations as we went. Although I had sent the itinerary in advance, on the day the guests wanted to see only things unique to Hiroshima and to avoid crowded places, so we changed the itinerary considerably, and I was greatly helped by the taxi company with time changes as we carried out the tour. At Shukkeien Garden, one of the guests was very delighted and took many photos. At the Peace Memorial Park, one of the guests had a strong interest in history and asked many questions. The museum was crowded and also hot and humid, so at the guests' request we did not enter the main building and viewed only the east wing. Lunch had not originally been included, but the guests wanted to try okonomiyaki, so I took them to a place with a wide variety of okonomiyaki and few tourists, which both of the guests very much enjoyed. After lunch, they wanted to go somewhere they could buy items unique to Hiroshima, so I guided them to the souvenir shop at the Orizuru Tower, where they were very taken with sake in beautiful bottles and purchased a great deal. The guests wanted to take photos at Hiroshima Castle before heading back, so we stopped there by taxi, took photos, and then returned to Ujina Port. I guided them to the places they wished to see according to the situation and mood at each moment, and arranging taxis in a timely manner was challenging, but at the end the guests told me they would definitely come back to Hiroshima and that we must absolutely meet again, and that they had a wonderful time. This gave me both relief and great joy.

    What Is a Private Kanazawa Walking Tour Like in Cherry Blossom Season? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan from Oceania as friends. One of them had visited Japan several times before. The Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms had already fallen, and we enjoyed a relaxed tour of Kanazawa now that things had settled down. At Kenrokuen Garden, the late-blooming Asahi-zakura and Kiku-zakura cherry trees were in full bloom, so I believe the guests were able to fully enjoy the cherry blossom viewing as well. From Kanazawa Castle Park we headed to Oyama Shrine, and after suggesting some recommended places to visit and a restaurant for the afternoon after the tour, we concluded the tour.

    What's a Private Kyoto Hiking Tour Like at Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They were soft-spoken and gentle in manner. Since hiking was among their interests, they planned to climb all the way to the summit of Fushimi Inari this time. We also climbed straight up to the Monkey Park on the mountain in Arashiyama. For me, the climb only grew more challenging as time went on. The guests enjoyed the view from the summit and feeding the monkeys. They would be staying in Kyoto for a few more days, so I wrote down some other sightseeing spots for them on paper. They had gone to Gion the previous day and seemed disappointed at not having seen any geisha, so I explained that, with the changing times, both the number of geisha and the number of teahouses have declined significantly compared to their peak. They were very easy to get along with.

On the day of the tour they arrived in Osaka from Tokyo, but a train delay pushed our start time back by about 30 minutes. Since the group had requested an Osaka tour focused primarily on food, we first headed to Kuromon Market, where they enjoyed takoyaki, scallops, tuna, and eel. They also tried some unusual Japanese delicacies, including firefly squid and the whale blubber known as "obake." After moving on to Dotonbori, they finished off more takoyaki, nabeyaki udon, and tempura, fully embracing Osaka's "kuidaore" (eat-until-you-drop) food culture. Finally, they admired the cherry blossoms at Osaka Castle in the evening light. I saw them off at the station near their hotel, and we parted ways.

The tour and the guests' reactions The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America, and everyone shared fishing as a hobby. They were a serious fishing group who caught yellowfin tuna off their home coast. Because of this, everyone was extremely interested in the explanations of the auction and longline fishing, and they asked many questions even before the auction began. They were particularly amazed by the ingenuity of the fishermen involved in longline fishing. They also could not hide their astonishment at how each tuna was sold in less than five seconds at the auction. At the sushi restaurant after the auction, everyone enjoyed a "tuna feast," savoring dishes such as seared tuna and marinated tuna, and greatly appreciating the care and skill of the craftsmen. At Tsukiji, everyone was interested in the display of seafood, so we spent time exploring the intermediate wholesaler shops, which they thoroughly enjoyed. One of the guests was delighted and said, "I could spend an entire day here." 2. Other impressions and notes This tour was booked through a travel agency, so the advance coordination took some time. The travel agency had not told the guests that they had used an online booking platform, and had apparently told them that they had found the guide through their own connections. As a result, they did not let the guide and the guests contact each other directly until the last minute. Through this experience, I learned that travel agencies have their own circumstances to consider. The guests said, "Next time we'll book directly through an online platform," so I asked them to please request me by name.

    Title: What's a Private Osaka Day Tour Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report Due to the rain forecast, the start was rescheduled to 12:00, and I guided the group visiting from North America. Since we began in light rain, we first went to Doguyasuji, a covered arcade street, where the guests purchased knives and chopsticks as gifts for family and friends, and along the way they also enjoyed the Osaka specialty of 551 pork buns. We then passed by Nanba Yasaka Shrine, and at Osaka Castle, where the wind and rain grew stronger, we made an impromptu visit to the castle tower, and once the rain eased we moved on to Dotonbori, where the tour concluded. The guests were very familiar with Japan and cherished the good old values of Japan that people today often forget — such as a chest of drawers and a koto handed down through the family, and their own Japanese names. Being in the presence of that respect made this a very enjoyable and heartwarming tour for me as a guide.

    Title: What Is a Private Family Walking Tour of Osaka's Kuromon Market Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Asia. Although some of the guests were shy at first, they quickly warmed up, and we became friendly enough to hold hands and enjoy chatting along the way. The cherry blossoms were past their peak, but the group happily took many photos under branches where petals still remained, together with a doll they had bought during our walk. At Kuromon Market, the group enjoyed seeing unusual fish and the wax food samples, and had lunch with a bento they had brought along. Toward the end, some of the guests took a nap resting on another's arm, and although it was a lively tour with its own challenges, it was full of smiles from beginning to end.
