    What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from Europe on a private walking tour of Kyoto. Since the guests said they wanted to visit places that are not too crowded, I took them to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, which is spacious and relatively uncrowded even when there are many people. The cherry blossoms were beautiful, and there was a special opening as well, so it took more time than expected. As it was their first time in Japan, I also guided them to the classic highlights of Kinkaku-ji, Hanamikoji Street in Gion, and the Yasaka Pagoda. Since the guests had no plans after the tour, I extended the tour by nearly an hour and we parted ways near the Yasaka Pagoda. We walked a great deal, but as they were a group who enjoy hiking, I believe they had a good time.

    What Is a Private Cruise-Stopover Tour of Kobe Like? A Licensed Guide's Report This was a cruise trip for guests from Africa. As I was entrusted with the itinerary, I planned a way for them to enjoy Kobe in a short amount of time. First, I introduced them to Japanese Shinto at Ikuta Shrine. By chance, they were able to see a Shinto ritual, which they found very interesting. I believe they also enjoyed visiting the various shrines within the precincts. At the Nada Sake Museum, they listened attentively and purchased many souvenirs. They had also requested Kobe beef, so I made a reservation at a restaurant near Chinatown. They were very much looking forward to it. I guided them to the shuttle bus stop for the port, and we parted ways there.

    What's a Private Tokyo Tour with Tsukiji, Shinjuku Gyoen, and Meiji Shrine Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a large group from Oceania on a private Tokyo tour, splitting the group into two with a fellow [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide based on a prior arrangement, and together we visited Tsukiji Outer Market, Shinjuku Gyoen, and Meiji Shrine. At Tsukiji Market first, the guests were very curious about the various foods and sampled many things, but because it was a large group, it took quite a lot of time. To explain the difference between Shinto and Buddhism, we stopped by Namiyoke Shrine and Higashi Honganji Temple, and I explained the differences between them, their influence on Japanese culture, and the differences and meanings of the ways of worship at each. The guests seemed satisfied with the content, which was new to them. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the cherry blossoms were nearly in full bloom, and the guests appeared very delighted with the spectacular scenery. By the time we reached the final stop at Meiji Shrine, some of the guests seemed tired, so we split into two groups: some headed to Takeshita Street, while the rest visited the shrine to worship. They had become quite accustomed to the manner of worship and did so in a solemn manner. Because we had spent considerably more time than planned at Tsukiji at the start, the tour ended up running about one hour over.

    What Can You See on a Private Kobe and Himeji Castle Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were visitors from North America. We met at the Kobe Port Terminal to begin the tour, but this tour required the itinerary to be revised several times. Initially, the guests had requested the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens, the Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum, Kobe Harborland, and the Motomachi Shopping Street, so I prepared an itinerary according to their wishes. However, the day before the tour, they said they wanted to visit Himeji Castle and Koko-en Garden, and asked whether the tour could end a bit earlier with a drop-off at Shin-Kobe Station. They said they were fine with keeping the Herb Gardens but reducing one of the other destinations. For this reason, I removed the Motomachi Shopping Street and created an itinerary that ended the tour by heading from Harborland to Shin-Kobe Station. However, I felt there could be difficulties with the guests sightseeing in Himeji on their own, so early this morning I planned an itinerary in which we would go to Himeji together with the guide after the Herb Gardens. The concern was whether the guests would agree to cover the travel costs to and from Himeji. When I met the guests a little earlier to discuss this, they were very pleased. For this reason, after meeting at the Port Terminal, we visited the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens, and then (as the guests wished to experience riding the Shinkansen) took the Shinkansen to Himeji, where we toured Himeji Castle, the Otemon Chaya (a light meal), and Koko-en Garden, before returning to the Port Terminal to end the tour. The weather was fine today, and the guests were very satisfied.

    What's a Half-Day Private Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America on a trip to Japan. In Tokyo they had mostly traveled by taxi and on foot, so at the start of the tour I needed to explain how to purchase IC cards as well as how to use the subway and buses. Although we had a late start at 13:00 and the destinations had not been decided until the day itself, I arranged for the Sagano Bamboo Grove to be the final stop and had the guests enjoy Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji. We made it to the bamboo grove before sunset, and the guests liked the quiet Sagano at dusk with few people around. We ended the tour at a subway station near the Hotel.

Since it was not possible to reach the guests until the day before the tour, I confirmed the itinerary at the time we met. As one of the guests had low vision, the tour proceeded at a slower walking pace than usual. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the herb garden and the Kobe beef lunch. As a result, the time spent at the Hakutsuru sake museum became shorter.     I’ve been a tour guide more than 200 times since the spring of 2023 in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Wakayama and Kochi. My tour is always original and new, depending on the guest’s preferences, encounters, seasons and weather.
    In Kyoto, one of my tours is to climb Mt. Kurama. It is about 1 hour from the city of Kyoto by train, it is a very quiet and beautiful mountain.

    I like a tea ceremony that is part of the traditional Japanese culture and embodies the spirit of “omotenashi” or hospitality. Through the tea ceremony, we can feel the spirit of “omotenashi” that has been passed down to us from ancient times.
    And I like to travel abroad and domestically, and I have been to 13 overseas countries and most of the prefectures in Japan. Traveling always gives me a new perspective, which is exciting and thrilling. Nowadays, we can learn a lot from the Internet, but traveling teaches us that it is important to have direct experience. When I travel, I feel that my five senses are infinitely expanded, and through my tour, I help all guests to have the same feeling in Japan.
    I was born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is next to Tokyo Prefecture in eastern Japan. When I was little, I could see Mount Fuji from my backyard. There was also a rice field nearby, and I grew up listening to the croaking of frogs. Listening to the frogs and seeing the mountains made me feel very calm.
    I moved to the city of Kobe, one of the Kansai areas in western Japan, which includes Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and so on. I’m not from the Kansai area of western Japan, but I think that makes me sensitive to the differences between that area and the Kanto area, Tokyo, where I grew up.
    Speaking of Kobe, you might be thinking of Kobe beef. Of course you do. There are also other sake breweries in Nada in Kobe. You can also go from Kobe city to Himeji Castle, also known as the White Egret Castle, which was the first in Japan to be listed as a World Heritage Site in 1993.

    Title: What Can You See on a 6-Hour Private Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were friends visiting Japan, arriving in Tokyo and planning to travel by Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka before touring Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima ahead of their return home. In advance emails, they mentioned an interest in Japanese temples and shrines, a wish to see famous cherry blossom spots, and a request to "cover as many places as possible in six hours." Based on this, I proposed a route of Meiji Shrine → Takeshita Street → Nakamise Shopping Street, Sensoji Temple → Ueno Park → Shibuya Scramble Crossing, and the Hachiko statue. On the day of the tour, the guests expressed a wish to eat oysters and other seafood at a food street after Sensoji Temple, so we made a detour to Ameyoko before Ueno Park. At "Uogashi," they happily enjoyed oysters, an assortment of sashimi, and even "hoya (sea squirt)." The cherry blossoms at Ueno Park were about 80% in bloom and at their peak, which they seemed to enjoy very much. In the end, we managed to complete all five proposed spots (plus Ameyoko).     • 08:30 Tour begins, heading to Meiji Shrine by subway (from Kita-Sando).
    • 09:00 Visit Meiji Shrine
    • 10:00 After finishing, head to Takeshita Street (from Minami-Sando).
    • 11:15 After strolling along Takeshita Street, head to Asakusa by subway.
    • 11:40 Arrive at Asakusa, visit the 8F of the Culture and Tourism Center, Nakamise, Senso-ji Temple, and Asakusa Shrine. Also, had lunch with vegetarian sandwiches at a kebab shop.
    • 13:45 Head to the Imperial Palace by subway. We tried to go to the special public opening of Inui-dori, but the wait seemed long, so we changed to the East Gardens and entered through Otemon Gate.
    • 14:15 Stroll through the East Gardens
    • 15:00 Exit through Kitahanebashimon Gate and head to Shibuya by subway.
    • 15:40 Arrive at Shibuya, disband at the Scramble Crossing.

    What Is a Private Cherry Blossom Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Visiting Japan for the first time, the guests seemed to find the cherry blossoms rare and beautiful, and took many photos. Even when I mentioned that we would go to spots where the blossoms were in fuller bloom, they kept taking pictures. On Takeshita Street, they spent a relatively long time choosing souvenirs at the very first shop that caught their eye. Even when I said there were similar shops at Nakamise, I think the same feeling as with the cherry blossoms — not wanting to miss this chance — led them to want to buy something right away. They seemed a little disappointed about giving up on Inui Street, but when I explained that the East Gardens have a similar charm, and that if it was just about cherry blossoms, Shinjuku Gyoen, which the guests planned to visit the next day, has more trees and more fully bloomed ones, they seemed to understand. One of the guests walked along energetically, which was a great help.

    Title: What's a Private Cherry Blossom Tour of Tokyo Like Before a Yokohama Cruise? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. The booking was originally for 7 people, then changed to 5, and the day before yesterday it became 4, as some of the guests had to withdraw following a bereavement in the family. The group arrived the previous night and planned to board a cruise ship from Yokohama the next day. Initially I had thought about starting at nearby Shinjuku Gyoen, but since an 8:00 start was too early, we followed the itinerary described above. Takeshita Street was too early and the shops were not yet open, so I handed out an English map and gave an explanation. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the Somei Yoshino cherry trees were about 80% in bloom, while the early-blooming cherry trees were in full bloom or beginning to fall, making it a perfect day for cherry blossom viewing. There were many visitors, and the Shinjuku Gate had been made entrance-only, with a separate exit created between it and the Okido Gate. Shinjuku Gyoen requires advance reservations this weekend. Ueno Park was in a similar state of bloom, and hanami parties had also begun, making it truly ideal weather for cherry blossom viewing. In North America, drinking in public places is prohibited, so the guests were surprised by this.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a group visiting from North America, along with the person who made the booking. They had arrived in Japan the previous day and were scheduled to board a cruise the following day. The tour was carried out according to the itinerary we had arranged in advance. The Tsukiji fish market area was less crowded than the outer market, so we were able to look around at a leisurely pace, and the guests were pleased that they had hired a guide. They also purchased some souvenirs. At Asakusa, we avoided the crowds of the main Nakamise shopping street and proceeded to Sensoji Temple via the back Nakamise lane. One of the guests took many photographs with a fine NIKON camera. The guests were moved by the vastness and tranquility of the Imperial Palace. Over lunch, I introduced a teppanyaki restaurant for their dinner that evening. At Meiji Shrine, we took the customary photo by the paired camphor trees. The guests were surprised that such a space could exist in the middle of a huge city, so I explained the historical changes of the area. As it was the start of the spring break period, finding a place for lunch in Harajuku was difficult even when shifting the timing during this season.
