There were questions such as "What is the main religion in Japan?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", and "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people believe in?" We then went to the Imperial Palace. I explained the history of Japan from Edo to the Meiji era, the Meiji Restoration, why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace, the history of the Imperial family, World War II and the Tokyo air raids, and how the stone walls were built.     What's a Private Kobe Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nunobiki Herb Garden and Kitano Ijinkan The guests were a group visiting from North America. As one of the guests seemed to have some difficulty walking, we proceeded at a relaxed pace. Unfortunately it was rainy, and at one point there was quite heavy rainfall, but in a sense, at the top of Nunobiki Herb Garden, they were able to enjoy a magical atmosphere quite different from what one experiences in clear weather, and the guests seemed all the more satisfied because of it. One of the guests appeared to love flowers and enjoyed the visit immensely, taking many photographs. At the Kitano Ijinkan district, we visited the "Moegi House" and the "Weathercock House," the only two buildings in the area designated as Important Cultural Properties, and the guests toured them with great interest. They also tasted a nearby soft-serve ice cream that had once been reported as the best in Japan, and were very pleased, saying it was indeed the best soft-serve ice cream they had ever had. On the way back, I introduced the only Starbucks housed in a building registered as a Tangible Cultural Property, which they viewed from the outside. (Its exterior paintwork and logo are unique and not seen anywhere else.) After finishing the visits to each spot, I guided them to the boarding area for the dedicated shuttle bus to the hotel that runs from near Sannomiya Station, where we parted ways. I presented two of the guests with handmade drawstring pouches made by my sister, which they were delighted to receive. (On my own assumption, I had brought only two, so they chose them by drawing lots.)

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

    What's a 4-Hour Private Tour of Tokyo Like from Shinjuku Gyoen to Yanaka? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group from Oceania on a 4-hour private tour that started at 12:30, after they had arrived at Narita that morning. They were scheduled to depart on a cruise from Yokohama two days later. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms had already turned to leaves, but the falling petals and the late-blooming cherry trees were beautiful, and the guests were delighted. Since one of the guests had mentioned in advance an interest in sewing and a wish to visit a fabric shop, I took the group to the Nippori Textile District, where they purchased fabrics they liked and Japanese-made pins. As the guests seemed quite tired from lack of sleep, I suggested a break in Yanaka, which they warmly welcomed, and they enjoyed coffee and frozen daifuku. Finally, I took the group to a plastic model shop in Shimbashi at their request, where they chose and bought a kit they liked. Since the guests preferred to return by taxi, I helped them into one near the shop, and the tour concluded. The rain and wind were strong, and since my own umbrella had broken that morning, I recommended carrying the hotel umbrella, though it was hardly used and may have been a bit of a burden.

    What's a Rainy-Day Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Nijo Castle, and Arashiyama Temples The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe, a group of four. Unfortunately it was rainy, and we had to use umbrellas for most of the day. At times the rain fell heavily, but by the time we finished at Nijo Castle the sun came out and it grew warm. Since Adashino Nenbutsu-ji is not easy to access, we met at Kyoto Station timed so that we could catch the bus from the Nonomiya bus stop. Everyone in the group walked quickly, so we were able to proceed very smoothly. Some of the guests collected goshuin stamps at various temples. Although it was raining, there were many international tourists everywhere. It seems that many people cannot skip sightseeing just because of rain when their schedule is limited. At Gio-ji as well, all the visitors were international tourists. We took a taxi from Kinkaku-ji to Nishioji Oike. We walked from Higashiyama subway station to Gion. The photo was taken at Kinkaku-ji. The guests said that Kinkaku-ji and Nijo Castle were the highlights.

    What Is a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Ginza, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine The guests were visitors from Europe. As they had just arrived the day before, they seemed a little sleepy, but they walked well. At Tsukiji, they enjoyed eating tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) and shopping for items such as black beans. After that, we went to Ginza and checked the locations of the Mitsukoshi department store and Itoya. In Asakusa, they requested okonomiyaki for lunch, which was very well received. Afterward, one of the guests purchased an authentic Japanese umbrella, the kind carried by maiko. Even though it was after the meal, they each enjoyed one strawberry daifuku and were in great spirits. We had planned to walk around Harajuku after visiting Meiji Shrine, but as they were tired, I saw them off at their hotel.

    Title: What Is a Private Fukushima Tour Like for First-Time Visitors to Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America joining this tour, and part of the group had previously visited Chernobyl, which led to their interest in coming to Fukushima. It was their first time in Japan. Some of the group were visiting a theme park in Tokyo, and during the tour the guests kept in touch with them by smartphone. We changed the meeting location from the original plan and decided to meet at the first destination to save time. As a result, the roads were smooth and we were able to start the tour earlier than scheduled. Photography seemed to be the main event of the trip, and the guests took many photos. On the other hand, when I explained the exhibits, they mostly said "I know," having already gathered a great deal of information from online videos beforehand. They also showed little interest in the stories of the disaster. At the dining spot, some of the dishes they wanted to eat were sold out, and I worried it might be turning into a failed tour — but that was only my concern, as the guests were easygoing and did not fuss over small details. They also kindly agreed to photography and publication for PR purposes. Without revealing the destination, I took them to the cherry blossom tunnel in the forest at night. When I said, "I'm sorry if you're already tired of seeing cherry blossoms," the guests took out their cameras and said, "The rest of the group will be happy — there was nothing like this in Tokyo," and took many photos. It happened to be the day of full bloom, which was fortunate. The guests showed me a photo of an exhaust tower standing next to a nuclear power plant and asked, "Do you know where this is?" I recognized the place and was able to guide them there. Combined with it being a pleasant beach, they were very pleased, and when it was time to leave, they gave me many thank-yous and a firm handshake. The taxi driver responded very flexibly, which was a great help. I am grateful for that.

They had studied the history surrounding World War II in advance and had a very deep understanding of the situation at that time. During transit, they kindly taught me British English pronunciation, and the tour proceeded in a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Since the tour course covered the period from the construction of Hiroshima Castle through wartime and postwar reconstruction, I consciously structured my storytelling to gradually build in energy, so that the guests could ultimately come away with a positive impression of Hiroshima. When I explained that okonomiyaki is a dish with roots in the postwar reconstruction, the guests expressed surprise, saying, "We didn't know that — so that's why it's so beloved by the locals." They seemed very satisfied, which was a relief to me as well.
