They planned a long journey covering Osaka, Kumamoto, Takachiho Gorge, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Naoshima, Teshima, Kyoto, Hakone, and Tokyo. They were very friendly; the guests often shared jokes and asked many questions out of genuine intellectual curiosity, which made the day of guiding truly enjoyable. This time they had originally hoped to visit not only Naoshima and Teshima but also the nearby Inujima, but had to give it up due to their schedule, so I encouraged them to be sure to come again next time.

I believe I know Takamatsu City and the Kagawa prefecture area very well. If you come to Takamatsu, Kagawa I think you can enjoy your tour with me. I started a Government Licensed Guide in 2019. So, I have been a licensed guide for about 5 years. My favorite destinations are Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsurin Garden, the top of Mt. Yashima and so on.     What's a Private Kyoto Garden Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and Nishiki Market The guests were visiting Japan for the first time. They had recently acquired a home and were working on creating a garden, so they were very interested in Japanese gardens and enthusiastically viewed the gardens at Okochi Sanso Villa and Tenryu-ji Temple. For lunch, since one of the guests preferred vegetarian dishes, I chose a restaurant that also serves vegetarian cuisine, and they said the food was delicious. During the meal, I listened to their ideas for their garden design, and they mentioned they would like to plant a cherry blossom tree. At Kinkaku-ji, they were amazed to learn how much gold is used on the building. The tour was originally scheduled to end at Kinkaku-ji, but since we were making good progress, I asked what they would like to do, and they said they wanted to visit Nishiki Market. So we went to Nishiki Market, where I had them try mame daifuku. Also, since one of the guests was interested in Mario games, I took them to the Takashimaya department store, which has a Nintendo goods shop, and we said goodbye there. It seemed they enjoyed the tour.

    Hiro in Japanese means large or big. Although I’m neither large nor big, you can call me Hiro. How are you doing ?
    I lived in a city nearby Kobe city. Do you know Kobe ? Kobe is famous for Kobe beef and pearl. If you have not yet had Kobe beef, you should taste the authentic Kobe beef. It is very satisfying taste. But I have recently moved to a city in Kyoto prefecture, so I can be in Kyoto city in about one hour. By the way, I am a family of four. I have a son and a daughter. My son now works in Tokyo. I sometimes go to Tokyo to see him. Tokyo is a huge city, but too crowded, so it seems not to suit me. I seem to be better suited to a small city than a big one. Where do you live in ? How many families do you have ? If you like, please tell me about them. I worked in the quality assurance department of a pharmaceutical company and visited the factories of foreign affiliated companies, so I became interested in foreign cultures and obtained a qualification as an interpreter guide in 2015.

    I have been a guide for about eight years. During that time, I have guided in Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Kochi and so on, although I could do little guiding work between 2020 and 2022 due to COVID-19. However, since last year, my guiding work has been back! So, I am happy to be able to meet different people again. My hobby is travelling, but sadly, I am not in a position to travel abroad easily at the moment due to the very weak yen, and I hope to travel abroad again when the situation eases a bit more.
    How many countries have you been to so far ? Which countries have you liked so far? Another hobby is watching sports – baseball and football. Do you like the baseball ? Do you know Otani, Japanese baseball player ? He has joined Dodgers in Los Angeles this year. I look forward to another successful year for Otani.

    By the way, what interests you in Japan? Food, history, scenery ? As far as tourist attractions are concerned, famous places are too crowded. If you like, I also would like to show you some less crowded places. Are you interested in experiencing something ? If you want to experience something, I can suggest an experience plan for you. If so, please contact me as early as possible. As for food, what kind of food do you like? There are many kinds of delicious food. Of course, you can get good food in fine restaurants, but you can also get good food in downtown restaurants. If you like alcohol, why don’t you try Japanese sake? It can range from light and fragrant to rich in flavor, so you’re sure to find a Japanese sake you like.

    My motto is “Be content with life.” However, I find myself complaining all the time. If you like, please tell me your motto. I want to treat all guests who visit Japan with the spirit of “Treasure every encounter” and guide them so that they can enjoy themselves and have good memories of Japan.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour from Osaka Like, Including a Kimono Experience? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests this time were a group visiting Japan from Europe for sightseeing. Regarding the destinations, communication was handled not directly with the guests but through a travel agency, and the itinerary had initially been confirmed as "Arashiyama (bamboo grove ⇒ Tenryu-ji Temple) ⇒ Kinkaku-ji ⇒ Nijo Castle ⇒ lunch ⇒ Fushimi Inari." However, since it was also necessary to confirm the guests' own wishes, I contacted them directly via the messaging app designated by the travel agency one week before the tour. Their reply mentioned that, after doing some research, they would also like to try a kimono experience. I explained to them that since the tour departed from and returned to Osaka, the actual tour time was only about six hours, and that adding a kimono experience would require about one hour for selecting the kimono and getting dressed, so one of the destinations would have to be cancelled — and I asked how they would like to proceed. The guests replied that they would like to cancel Kinkaku-ji, so the final plan became "four destinations plus a kimono experience." On the day of the tour, although it was somewhat cloudy, it was neither too cold nor too hot, making for comfortable tour weather. After enjoying the Arashiyama bamboo grove and Tenryu-ji Temple, they changed into traditional clothing for the long-awaited kimono experience. The kimono suited both of them remarkably well, and they looked very pleased. Dressed in traditional attire, they visited Nijo Castle and Fushimi Inari Taisha, and their kimono looked wonderful at each location (see photos). The guests had a strong interest in Japanese culture and history, and some of the guests were studying Japanese and Chinese. In the taxi on the way there, they listened attentively to my explanations (on Japanese religion, samurai government, and the imperial system) and asked many questions. Also, during our conversation over lunch, some of the guests mentioned wanting to study design and urban planning in Japan in the future. It turned out to be an enjoyable tour with a close and friendly group.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Tour of Meiji Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum Like? A Licensed Guide's Report 1. The tour and the guests' reactions The guests were visitors from North America who came to Japan. At Meiji Shrine, they were delighted by the sacred atmosphere of the approach path. Because of the spring grand festival, a traditional stage and large taiko drums had been set up on the plaza in front of the main hall, so they were able to enjoy a lively atmosphere different from usual. We happened to come across a procession of a bride and groom heading to a wedding, along with their family and friends, and the guests were moved by the white bridal kimono. The guests also wrote their prayers on an ema votive tablet and were pleased, saying, "What a wonderful experience." Due to time constraints, we could stay at the Tokyo National Museum for only a little under an hour. Since the guests were interested in samurai culture and Buddhism, we focused mainly on those exhibits, and they were satisfied. They told me, "We'll save the rest for our next visit to Japan," which was a relief to hear. 2. Other notes and remarks The guests' hotel was in the Kudanshita area, close to Yasukuni Shrine. As it was a public holiday, right-wing and left-wing demonstrators were expected to appear around Yasukuni Shrine, and there was a heavy security presence with more than ten Metropolitan Police riot vehicles closing off the Kudanshita intersection. I explained the situation to the guests and advised them that if the security measures were still in place after the tour, they should stay inside the hotel as much as possible and go out only after the security had been lifted.

    **What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Kappabashi, Harajuku, and Shibuya** The guests were a group visiting from North America. All were visiting Japan for the first time. This was an 11-day trip to Japan. After staying in Tokyo, they planned to visit Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, then return to Tokyo before flying home. They had arrived at Haneda Airport the previous night and taken a taxi to their hotel. The previous evening, they enjoyed a teppanyaki dinner in Kabukicho. They planned to visit "teamLab Borderless" the next day. Today, they wanted to learn "how to use the trains and the transportation network within Tokyo." They also said, "If any cherry blossoms remain, we would like to see them." It was a tour conducted in torrential rain and strong wind. First, since they said "we would like to buy a Welcome Suica Card," we went to the Ekitabi Concierge at Shinjuku Station. After that, we moved to Asakusa. We started from the front of Kaminarimon Gate. I explained "Sensoji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo," "what the five-story pagoda is for," "what Buddhism is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." We took commemorative photos at Kaminarimon and various other spots. We slowly strolled through the crowded Nakamise shopping street. There were questions such as "What is the main religion in Japan?" "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?" and "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people believe in?" There was also a question: "We see many women wearing kimono within the temple grounds despite the rain—why is that? Are they all Japanese?" As a souvenir for themselves, they purchased a "traffic safety amulet." We moved to Kappabashi Kitchenware Street. We entered various shops and looked around, and in the end they purchased one kitchen knife. They said "we would like to buy tableware too, but our luggage would become too heavy," and decided against it. We moved to Harajuku. Here the rain stopped and the sun came out. Meiji Shrine was full of tourists. I explained "about Shinto," "about the torii gate," "about Emperor Meiji," "why the sake barrels are displayed," and "why the wine barrels are displayed." There were questions such as "What kind of religion is Shinto?" and "How does Buddhism differ from Shinto?" We took a short break at Forest Terrace Meiji Jingu. We moved to Shibuya. We actually crossed the Scramble Square. There were questions such as "About how many people cross here?" and "Why did it become so famous?" We also took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. There were comments and questions such as "The city is so clean and there is no litter on the ground," "There are no trash cans in the streets—why is that?" "Everyone is quiet on the trains," and "There are vending machines everywhere." I saw them off at Shinjuku Station, where we parted ways.

    Title: What's a Private Walking Tour of Yokohama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. Before their arrival in Japan, they had flown into Haneda Airport on a direct flight the previous night and taken a taxi to their hotel in Yokohama. They had dined at the hotel and rested early because they were tired. This visit to Japan was centered on a round-Japan cruise departing from Yokohama Port starting the next day. The guests mentioned that they enjoy cruise travel together and take a cruise every year. Today, as a way to warm up, they requested a relaxed walk around Yokohama to enjoy the atmosphere. The tour took place under clear skies and warm, almost hot weather, though a strong wind was blowing. First, the guests wanted to shop at a department store, so we started at a department store near Yokohama Station, where they purchased a T-shirt and a pair of trousers. After that, we headed to the Minatomirai district and strolled slowly along the seaside promenade. One of the guests enjoyed photography and took time to take pictures here and there. We also walked leisurely through the Red Brick Warehouse and took a short break at a café inside. Next, we walked through the Motomachi shopping street and on to Chinatown, where the guests took photos at Kanteibyo Temple. There were many groups of students, apparently on a school trip, enjoying street food, so it was crowded. The guests remarked that while there is also a Chinatown where they live, it is not nearly as large as this one. They made several comments and asked questions, such as: "It is so quiet inside the trains—no one is speaking loudly." "The streets are clean and there is no litter." "There are no homeless people here. Why is that? Where we live, homelessness has become a major issue." I saw the guests off at the entrance of their hotel, and we parted ways.

At the Peace Park, they listened with great interest to the meaning of the Peace Statue, the historical background of the Tower of Paper Cranes, and the story of the former prison site that remains in the park. At the Hypocenter Park, they listened with interest to the methods used to identify the exact hypocenter. At the Atomic Bomb Museum, they observed the situation of the bomb's damage very attentively.     What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour to Meiji Shrine and Harajuku Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They preferred not to be photographed, so unfortunately no photos were taken during the tour. Before starting, I asked about their preferences and guided them through the sights in order, but time ran a little short at the final stop in Harajuku. After visiting Meiji Shrine, I guided them to Takeshita Street and ended the tour there. Afterward, the guests planned to explore Takeshita Street on their own before returning to their hotel. The weather was fine and the temperature rose, but there was a pleasant breeze that allowed us to proceed comfortably throughout the tour. I believe the guests were satisfied.

    What's a Half-Day Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. They were staying in Kyoto for their trip and booked a half-day guided tour. They mentioned that they had strolled around Gion the day before, and since Gion was on our route, I explained about it and guided them through the area. As they enjoyed games, I guided them to a Nintendo store, and they decided they wanted to visit it after the tour, so we finished at Kawaramachi. The weather was fine and the temperature was 26 degrees, so while walking around the Kiyomizu area they seemed a little tired, and they enjoyed mitarashi dango and ice cream at a tea house. They were especially fond of the dango.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Family Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. The English-speaking member of the group was the main point of communication with the guide, while the group conversed among themselves in Dutch. After Tokyo, they planned to continue to Kanazawa, Kyoto, and Osaka. They had not received the two emails I had sent in advance regarding the itinerary, so we planned the day based on our conversation when we met that morning and on the interests that emerged along the way. Since they loved sushi, I introduced Ginza Street and the Kabukiza Theatre, and we first headed to Tsukiji Market. Although it was not long after breakfast, they tried salmon and tuna, and as it was within walking distance of their accommodation, they were eager to come back the next day to eat much more. At Zojoji Temple, they were intrigued by the tied-up omikuji fortunes and the whole group tried them in the Ankokuden hall. Everyone drew some form of good fortune, and one of the guests drew the best fortune, which became a lively topic of conversation for the whole group. I had expected they might not be very interested in the Tokyo Tower observation deck, but when I shared my personal impression that, compared with Tokyo Skytree, a lower observation deck actually lets you feel the city up close, they decided to go up. At 150 meters above ground, the whole group took many photos together. The group was very close-knit, which greatly contributed to the smooth flow of the tour. For lunch at Gransta Yaenaka, I introduced several options, and when I suggested dancyu Shokudo as being close to a typical Japanese meal, they decided immediately. They were very satisfied with the karaage set, the ginger pork set, and some shumai, describing them as "very delicious." After lunch, with limited time remaining, we prioritized shopping and headed to Harajuku rather than Asakusa. At Meiji Shrine, after an explanation in front of the first torii gate and a commemorative photo, we soon headed to Takeshita Street. They looked for brand-name bags, clothing, and cosmetics, and were also excited by the animal cafes on Takeshita Street. We strolled toward Omotesando Hills, passing several shops such as those on Cat Street and Onitsuka Tiger, and after sharing information about several shops in Shibuya and Ginza, we parted ways in front of Omotesando Hills.
