What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Day Tour of the Imperial Palace and Asakusa? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America. They had arrived in Japan two days earlier, and after Tokyo they planned to visit Kyoto, Hiroshima, and the Seto Inland Sea, for a total stay of about ten days in Japan. One of the guests had visited Japan a couple of times before, though this was their first time sightseeing, while it was a first visit to Japan for the other.

The tour had originally been scheduled to begin at 11:00 the previous day (June 3), but due to poor weather caused by a typhoon, the guests requested a change of date and time. Since this was possible on our end, the tour was moved to 9:00 today (June 4).

Because the guests wanted to maximize their sightseeing time, we changed the meeting point from the hotel to Sakuradamon Gate at the Imperial Palace Outer Garden, which was the first destination. The guests arrived about 15 minutes late, having come to Sakuradamon by taxi, and we were able to start the tour smoothly. I guided them through the Imperial Palace Outer Garden, the Imperial Palace East Gardens, and Asakusa. As they wanted to see the Imperial Gardens, we visited both the Outer Garden and the East Gardens. Both guests seemed to love plants, and the Imperial Palace East Gardens appeared to be their favorite. They took photos at various spots while listening to my explanations and enjoyed themselves. After the tour, the guests planned to return to their hotel by taxi, so we finished the tour at the taxi stand in front of the department store in Asakusa.
