What Does a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Kiyomizu-dera The guests were a group visiting from South America. They had arrived in Japan via Osaka and were on their fifth day in the country. They mentioned that they had come to Kyoto the day before. To avoid the daytime crowds, we started the tour at Fushimi Inari Taisha. Here, three of the guests dedicated white fox ema plaques, and one drew an omikuji fortune. I translated the content of the omikuji into English and explained it. In Gion, we strolled around the Shirakawa Tatsumi Bridge area and then headed to Hanamikoji Street. Following that route, we went to Yasui Konpiragu Shrine, and when I explained the stone for cutting and forming bonds, three of the guests experienced crawling through the stone hole. One of the guests seemed tired from walking and took a rest within the shrine grounds. Out of consideration for that guest, I suggested taking a short break at a cafe, and everyone agreed, so we stopped by a coffee shop near Kodaiji. After that, we passed through the Yasaka Pagoda, Ninenzaka, and Sannenzaka on our way to Kiyomizu-dera. Kiyomizu-dera was as crowded as ever, but everyone enjoyed themselves, including lining up at the Otowa Waterfall. At Sanjusangendo, the guests were initially moved by the thousand statues of the thousand-armed Kannon, though they viewed them at a fairly quick pace. After that, I saw the guests off at their hotel, and the tour concluded.

What Is a Private Walking Tour of Kyoto's Higashiyama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided the guests visiting from North America. We had planned to take a taxi to Kiyomizu-dera before it got crowded, but since the hotel turned out to be closer to Gojozaka than expected, we walked up Chawanzaka and arrived at Kiyomizu-dera before 9:00. Since there were few people around, we were able to purchase a goshuin without waiting in line, and the guests enjoyed Otowa Falls with almost no queue. After that, we passed through Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka, and took a taxi from Nene-no-Michi to Nanzen-ji. At Nanzen-ji, the guests admired the view from the Sanmon gate and the Suirokaku aqueduct, and afterward relaxed for a while viewing the garden at the Hojo. We then strolled along Shirakawa and Hanamikoji, and I guided the guests to the Kagai Art Museum, where they planned to watch a show after lunch. Since they had just arrived the night before and were a little tired, we changed the show to an earlier time, and as they wished to have lunch before it started, I recommended a restaurant and we finished a little early.

Hello! My name is Umi. I was born and raised in Kyoto, and I still live here today.

I have always loved traveling. When I visit another country, I enjoy learning about its history, culture, and way of life from local people. Talking with locals helps me understand a place much better than simply visiting famous sights. That’s why I became a tour guide.

Through my tours, I hope to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of Japan. In addition to its beauty and traditions, I am also happy to talk about modern life in Japan. My goal is for my guests to leave Japan with wonderful memories and a deeper appreciation of the country.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!

    • 11:40-13:10 Asakusa (lunch)
    • 13:40-14:00 Shibuya crossing
    • 15:00 Arrive at Tokyo International Cruise Terminal

The guests were a pleasant group, and since we spent a long time on the train, we chatted a great deal. It was an enjoyable tour to guide, but because the travel time was long, we were unable to visit Harajuku as originally planned. The cruise ship was scheduled to depart at 4:00, so we could not extend the tour either. I was glad that the guests understood the situation. I reflected that tours picking up at the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal should be planned with the long travel time in mind. I will be careful about this going forward.

What Is a Cruise Port Private Tour of Miyajima and Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. Yesterday they had a tour in Kochi, and this morning, soon after arriving in Hiroshima, we began the Miyajima and Hiroshima tour, during which some of the guests appeared especially tired. I imagined that for cruise ship port tours, especially for more mature groups, the way time is spent on the previous day's tour can make certain days somewhat demanding for guests who booked early. I was grateful that they had let me know the evening before that they wished to return to the ship early. We parted ways as I wished them good health and an enjoyable week of touring ahead, continuing on via Busan.

    • Go to Osaka Castle by subway.

    • Walk through Doguyasuji, Sennichimae, Hozenji, and Dotonbori to Namba Yasaka Shrine.

What Is a Private One-Day Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report This was the guests' first time in Japan, and Osaka was the first city they visited, so I shared some basics such as information about Osaka, Japanese history, the differences between Shinto and Buddhism, the emperor, the shogun, and samurai. I also explained about Japanese castles and we visited Osaka Castle. The guests showed great interest in Japanese castles. Since it was very crowded during the Golden Week holidays, the guests chose to walk up rather than wait for the elevator, and they climbed energetically. They enjoyed the view from the observation deck. After that, the guests eagerly offered prayers at Namba Yasaka Shrine. At Dotonbori and Shinsekai, the guests also enjoyed looking at Osaka's local foods.

    Tour Itinerary

    • 05:00-05:30 Advance explanation of related information such as tuna catching methods, how the auction proceeds, collection methods, and the roles of wholesalers and intermediate wholesalers

    • 07:30-08:00 Stroll through the Tsukiji inner market
    • 08:00 Disband at Tsukiji

What Is a Private Toyosu Tuna Auction and Sushi Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a visitor from North America. On the morning of the tour, one member of the group preferred to rest at the hotel, so the tour proceeded with a single guest. From the tuna auction viewing area, the guest used a video call to share the live scene of the tuna auction with family both at the hotel and back in North America. It was almost like live commentary, narrating along with the video based on what I had explained beforehand, and the guest enjoyed watching the tuna auction together with family. A frozen tuna in the 150 kg class was sold at around 5,000 yen/kg, so a single tuna came to about 4,780 dollars (approximately 480,000 yen), and seeing so many tuna of that size lined up at the auction, the guest was amazed and said, "This is big business." The guest loved otoro (fatty tuna), so at the sushi restaurant they enjoyed a "tuna course" with two extra pieces of otoro added. Starting with the lean red meat (akami), the guest first said, "Akami isn't that delicious," but the moment it went into their mouth, they were surprised and said, "I've never had such mellow akami." The guest said their whole concept of how delicious sushi could be had changed, and told the head chef with great emotion, "This was the best sushi of my life." Since the guest had already visited Tsukiji during the daytime the previous day, they said a quick stroll around Tsukiji would be enough, so I arranged the tour to allow a slightly longer stay at the sushi restaurant.

They had arrived early in the morning the previous day on an overnight flight and spent that day resting to recover from the journey. Even so, some of the guests still felt tired, so we needed to take occasional breaks as the tour progressed. Nevertheless, the weather was wonderful and we were able to visit all of the places we had planned, so I believe the guests were satisfied. Can You Do a Slow-Paced Private Day Tour of Tokyo for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were senior visitors currently residing in North America, joining a private full-day tour of Tokyo. They were enjoying a cruise of about three weeks that departed from Asia and visited destinations including Hong Kong and Shanghai, with the final leg reaching Japan via Okinawa and Kochi before arriving in Tokyo. They planned to fly home in the afternoon of the day after this tour. Since this full day could be dedicated entirely to sightseeing, there were many places I wanted to introduce to first-time visitors to Japan, but the guests requested a relaxed pace with frequent breaks. We began at Meiji Shrine. The guests carried themselves with excellent posture and gave a youthful impression, though one of them did tire more easily. After completing the visit, we rested a while on a bench. Once refreshed, the guests looked around the souvenir shop and purchased a small Japanese doll. It was not heavy but a little bulky, so I helped carry it. Next, perhaps having received information from a family member who had visited Japan before, the guests showed unexpected interest in Shibuya. So we headed to Shibuya, and upon arrival we first had lunch, partly as a break. From several options, the guests chose a soba restaurant and enjoyed tempura soba. We then chose a route with as few stairs as possible and took a bus from Shibuya to Roppongi. Since it seemed unrealistic to actually reach Zojoji Temple or Tokyo Tower, I guided the guests to a spot at Roppongi Hills with views of Tokyo Tower and Azabudai Hills Mori Tower, currently the tallest building in Japan. After enjoying the pleasant breeze for a while, we walked slowly to Tokyo Midtown Roppongi. As one of the guests had shown interest in Japanese kitchen knives, I guided them to "Kiya" inside Midtown. The guests purchased two knives and an iron kettle. They then enjoyed some window shopping at the Suntory Museum of Art shop and a Japanese crafts shop. The guests were especially delighted, saying, "This place (Tokyo Midtown Roppongi) is my favorite spot. Thank you for bringing me here." After that, we had planned to visit the Imperial Palace, and while one of the guests was very interested, the other had grown tired. We took a coffee break at Midtown, but in the end the guests agreed together to skip the Imperial Palace and return to the hotel. Using the Oedo Line directly connected to the station, we traveled smoothly from "Roppongi" Station to "Tochomae" Station and returned to the hotel. Finally, I spoke with the hotel concierge on behalf of one of the guests who wished to have a foot massage, and then we said our goodbyes.

What Is a Private Walking Tour of Sapporo Like in Spring? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was clear and mild, during the latter half of the Golden Week holidays. There were many people out and about in the city. At Odori Park, the late-blooming cherry blossoms and tulips were in full bloom. The guests saw many local residents and travelers relaxing peacefully under the afternoon sunshine. At Nijo Market, the guests took their time observing the seafood, vegetables, fruits, and other items on display at the storefronts, and seemed genuinely interested. Right after we met, the guests mentioned a particular brand of liquor and the name of a shop, so I kept that in mind as we walked through the city. Later, they were able to obtain the drink they had been hoping for and seemed very satisfied.

Title: What's a Private Walking Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe on a trip to Japan. Their hotel was located a little away from Kanazawa Station, and while a free shuttle bus ran between the hotel and Kanazawa Station in the morning, it did not operate in the afternoon until 3:00 PM, so we had considered using a taxi. However, the guests were quite energetic, and since the weather was nice, we decided to walk to Kanazawa Station instead. During the tour, I received many questions, and I believe it turned out to be a rewarding and enriching tour. We concluded the tour at a café in the Higashi Chaya District.
