What Is a Private Hakone Tour Like Before Heading to Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors currently based in Oceania. It was memorable how much they seemed to enjoy talking about a wide range of topics beyond travel itself. When we talked about Japanese Shinto, they shared that a very similar way of thinking exists where they are from, and when we discussed sake such as ginjo and daiginjo, they showed great interest because of their work in food production, mentioning that they have a similar concept in the lineup of products made from the wheat they grow themselves. Also, like the guests from the previous day, they were moving on to Kyoto the next day, so I sent them photos and videos explaining how to get from Kowakudani to Hakone-Yumoto, from Hakone-Yumoto to Odawara, and how to find the Shinkansen platform at Odawara, which they were very happy to receive. This tour was arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/). [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. I registered as a national guide in February 2015 and began working as an interpreter guide in 2019. I have been guiding throughout Tokyo (I was born and raised in Setagaya and went to elementary and junior high school in Aoyama, Minato-ku. I am familiar with sightseeing spots and gourmet food in this area, including Shibuya), and I now live in Kanagawa (Yokohama where I have lived more than 30 years, and Kamakura, Odawara, Hakone)
I worked for the Japanese branch of an American advertising company for over 30 years and, thus, have deep knowledge of marketing and branding.
My hobbies are travel (domestic and international) and bicycling (I have participated in the Tour de Okinawa citizens’ race every year since 2017. I ride approx. 7,000 kilometers a year). When traveling in Japan, I enjoy traditional crafts, local products, food, and sake from each region. I am also active in a band as a third hobby, performing live once a year for ten years.
As a guide, I mainly guide small groups (about 4-5 people), where I can communicate more closely and politely with them, rather than large groups.
My activity aims to deepen the understanding of Japanese traditional culture and the Japanese people among foreign visitors and to make a small contribution to making Japan the number one country to revisit in their hearts.

Title: What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Lake Ashi and Local Dining The guests were a group visiting from North America. One of the guests posts many travel photos on social media, and it was memorable how patiently the group waited in the long line for a photo at the "Peace Torii Gate" without complaint. Also, contrary to the information I had received during our advance communication (which had been carried out via email and a messaging app), one of the guests turned out to be very particular about food. At the first restaurant, a soba shop, this guest could hardly eat anything, so we stopped by a nearby bakery and purchased a prosciutto sandwich. The guest would only eat it after toasting the prosciutto in a toaster. In situations like this, when Japanese food or raw ingredients cannot be eaten on the day of the tour, I think the Bakery & Cafe by Lake Ashi can be very useful, since guests can warm the bread themselves. Also, since the group planned to leave the hotel the next day and head to Kyoto, after we parted at Hakone-Yumoto Station, I took photos and videos of "how to transfer trains at Hakone-Yumoto Station" and "the route from arriving at Odawara to boarding the Shinkansen," and sent them via the messaging app that same day, which was very much appreciated.

Kyoto Private Walking Tour with a Licensed Guide: What Is a Summer Day Trip from the Shinkansen Like? To help cope with the heat, I suggested buying drinks at several points along the way and made an effort to walk through shaded areas whenever possible. Early on, the guests seemed tired, perhaps from eating a lot of udon and from the intense summer heat, so I accompanied them to the shabu-shabu restaurant where they had a dinner reservation in order to pay the cancellation fee in person. They seemed apologetic about it. After 5:00 p.m., we strolled through the Gion area and the quiet Shinbashi district. Perhaps because it had cooled down a little, the guests gradually seemed to be enjoying themselves, taking many photos with delight. Because the guests arrived in Kyoto by Shinkansen that day, it turned into a tight schedule, but during the tour they thanked me for choosing shaded routes and avoiding the crowds. This was my first time serving as a private guide, and I gained a great deal from the experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been given this chance.

What Is a Private Guided Tour of Kagawa and Naoshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They listened very attentively, which made guiding them truly rewarding. Before their trip, they had researched their destinations thoroughly. While Takamatsu and Naoshima are not part of the so-called golden route, recent inbound travelers gather detailed information online and choose destinations that match their own values and interests. They selected Kagawa and Naoshima because these areas offer many opportunities to see art. They arrived in June and were on a longer trip. The next day they planned to visit Naoshima, and after that they would head to Kyoto before returning home. They were very kind and attentive, and it was a pleasure to guide them.

Hello. My name is Hisao Kaji. I was born in 1945. I was raised in Takamatsu City from 3 years old. So, I have been living in Takamatsu for around 75 years. I believe I know Takamatsu City and the Kagawa prefecture area very well. If you come to Takamatsu, Kagawa I think you can enjoy your tour with me. I started a Government Licensed Guide in 2019. So, I have been a licensed guide for about 5 years. My favorite destinations are Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsurin Garden, the top of Mt. Yashima and so on. I always show you an itinerary about one month before your tour date, and I will accept any questions, other favorite places you want to visit. Communicating with you, I would like to accommodate your request for your tour. I always listen to NPR on the internet to know how the world is moving and improve my English. I like conversation based upon it with my life. I stayed in the USA for 8 months for a Power Systems Engineering Course conducted by General Electric in New York State when I was 28 years old. I sometimes talk about my memory of those days with the guests. I am very happy to guide tourists because I can see the guests become happy and enjoy themselves when I am guiding better. Nothing is more wonderful than that. I welcome your visit to Takamatsu City and Kagawa Prefecture. I believe you will have a pleasant time through my guide.

What Is a Private Hiroshima City Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided the guests visiting from Oceania. Since they had visited Miyajima the previous day, they wished to focus on sightseeing within Hiroshima City. Although the contract included both Miyajima and Hiroshima City sightseeing, they said it was fine if the tour ended early. One of the guests carefully viewed the exhibits at the museum and read the explanatory texts thoroughly, and I could sense a depth of knowledge. Because they listened attentively to my explanation before we entered the main building, it was very rewarding for me to guide them.

What Is a 4-Hour Private Afternoon Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report It was a very hot day. Because of the temple closing times, we changed the meeting time to 14:30. As arranged in advance, we used a taxi to travel from Kinkaku-ji to Tenryu-ji, and we managed to arrive just before Tenryu-ji's closing time (16:50), and the approach to the bamboo grove also went smoothly. Since the group, including myself, was five people, I had originally thought we would need two taxis, but we were able to catch a large taxi that fit exactly five people, and the guests were pleased. It was a 4-hour tour, and partly because of the late start, as I had also communicated beforehand, we finished by showing the group the outer walls of Nijo Castle and taking a photo of the guests.

Title: What Is a Private Walking and Shopping Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from Skytree to Asakusa At 9:30, the group and I met at the Hotel and headed to Oshiage Station. Since the group included a younger member, we stopped at a Totoro character goods shop on the way from the station to Tokyo Skytree for some shopping. Throughout the rest of the tour as well, we made frequent stops at anime and character goods shops. After enjoying the spectacular views of the city from the Skytree observation deck, we moved on to Asakusa. From the observation floor on the 8th floor of the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, the guests took in the whole view, including the Tokyo Skytree we had just visited, the Flamme d'Or, Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise Street, and Senso-ji Temple, before strolling along Nakamise Street. Here too, time passed quickly as we shopped for souvenirs. Running about an hour behind schedule, we headed to Tsukiji. It was close to 14:00 and everyone was hungry, so we enjoyed fresh sushi at Sushisei, and then moved toward Takeshita Street. We parted ways at the entrance to Takeshita Street. It was a walking and shopping tour that the guests seemed very satisfied with.

From the beginning, they had gathered a variety of information and made several requests, but today's course was settled (and reconfirmed at the hotel before the tour). Harajuku seemed to suit the group best. Today was the hottest day of the year so far (even in Tokyo, the temperature was well above 30 degrees Celsius), and the guests found the heat quite taxing. During the period from July to mid-September, when there are many days with highs exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, I felt that guests need to be alerted to the conditions. This means not only staying hydrated but also avoiding overly demanding itineraries. Although guests often make many requests, in midsummer it is best to recommend an earlier start time, and since a full-day tour is difficult before the heat of the day sets in, a half-day tour may be advisable. I am especially concerned about the stamina of guests who are younger or those of a more advanced age, since even those of us accustomed to Japan's humid heat find it hard. For guests who are not used to it, or who are unaware of Japan's humid heat, even more advice is necessary. Last year as well, I experienced several groups who had signed up for a full-day tour but had to drop out partway through due to the heat. I believe that guests need not only information about sightseeing spots but also advice on touring Japan in midsummer.

What's a Private Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report on Harajuku, Tsukiji, and Asakusa The guests were visitors from North America who had arrived in Japan the day before the tour. After several years without traveling, they were able to enjoy travel again and made their first trip to Japan a reality. From right after arriving, they began sightseeing energetically, even joining an evening food-walking tour around the area near their hotel in Shinjuku. When the guests saw children in school uniforms in Asakusa or on the trains, they asked many questions, and I explained about education in Japan, especially school trips. As part of a younger generation, they also had a wealth of information about trending spots in Tokyo and had eagerly gathered information in advance through social media. On this occasion, the request to go up to the rooftop gardens of the Tokyu Plaza buildings "Omokado" and "Harakado" in Harajuku came from the guests themselves. The view we actually saw was wonderful, and I believe they enjoyed a tour that differed a little from the usual routes. For lunch, they savored sushi and beer in Tsukiji, and as a new experience, they also tried deep-fried pufferfish. They found it very delicious and enjoyed it greatly.
