Title: What Is a Private Full-Day Kyoto Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a family visiting from North America who had a strong interest in Japanese history, culture, and food. Their first trip to Japan had been postponed for some time and was finally realized on this occasion. Unfortunately, the day was extremely hot throughout, and although everyone worked up quite a sweat, the guests asked thoughtful questions on fundamental topics such as the relationship between Buddhism and Shinto in Japan and the connection between the shogunate and samurai governance. They also requested family photos at each of the sightseeing spots we visited. Due to time constraints, after returning to Kyoto Station, which had been our starting point, we exchanged smiles and handshakes on the spot and said our goodbyes.

Born, raised and married in Kyoto, I am Masaaki Tanaka started English-speaking licensed guide since 2008, guiding mostly those English-speaking inbound tourists in Kyoto, which is my home base, and in Osaka (where I woked so long time until my retirment) and Nara and in other Kansai areas incl. Kobe, Koyasan, etc. If allowed, I can say I am somewhat experinced in Japanese history (especially in its culture). When young, I lived and worked for some 11 years in the Middle East, which areas, accordingly, I am still quite familiar to . My hobby includes : seeing Noh Play and Kabuki, hearing Musics in general (Beethoven, Beatles, Jazz & Rock’n Rolls as well as Japanese classicals), seeing the paintings/artworks in general, playing the piano (all time at beginner’s level, though), playing the guitar and, when younger, I enjoyed skiing and business golf. Also, I am, since my childhoo, a great fan of Tigers in Japan’s pro-base ball. I love cats (keeping now an old female ‘Chee’ chan) , and certainly my wife Tokuko as well.

Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like for a Group of Students? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from the Middle East, in Japan for a graduation trip. During the transfers they spent time on their smartphones, but they were fundamentally polite. Since this was my first time attending to guests from the Middle East, when I asked about education and family life in their home region, they kindly explained things to me. Some of the guests also told me about the aspects of Japan they liked compared with where they live. As this was my first time guiding a group of this kind, it was a refreshing and enjoyable experience. The pace was leisurely all the way to the Arashiyama Monkey Park. Some in the group walked slowly, one guest's IC card could not be used and a ticket had to be purchased at a cash machine, and along the way they enjoyed ice cream and matcha lattes and bought souvenirs at various points. Since the tour was scheduled to end at 15:00, I mentioned at the Monkey Park that I wanted to arrive at Fushimi Inari by 14:00. One of the guests who acted as the leader told the others to hurry, but in the end we arrived at Fushimi Inari Taisha at 14:30. When I explained that walking through the Senbon Torii as well would take about an hour and asked what they would like to do, they seemed tired from the heat, so I suggested visiting only the main hall. When I then asked what they would like to do next, they said they wanted to take a taxi back to the hotel. As luck would have it, two taxis stopped right in front of the large torii gate, so we said our goodbyes there.

I am a 53-year-old woman, living in Kyoto for nearly 40 years. I got the license in 2001. Since then, I worked as an interpreter or a translator in several companies, secretary at universities, and now work for a company on weekdays at the international dept.I do guiding job only weekend now. I started full swing guiding career after COVID-19 pandemic. I have gotten good review from many of my guests. I love my hometown, Kyoto which has a lot of interesting and historical sites to see. Particularly, I am native to Arashiyama which is famous for bamboo forest. So, I know a lot of places where you can relax yourself around this area. Other than that, Kyoto has many attractive sites which surely interest you. Also, I like meeting many people from different cultural background. I am very happy if I learn about your culture as well. Let’s enjoy exploring around Kyoto!

    Tour Itinerary

    • Itsukaichi Station ~ Miyajima ~ Shopping ~ Peace Memorial Park ~ Itsukaichi Station

What Is a Private Miyajima and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report On Miyajima, the guests thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and took many photographs. They were very fond of the deer and even took pictures together with them. They were also very taken with the Great Torii Gate and spent a considerable amount of time taking numerous photos of it. It was a shame that, because it was high tide, we were unable to walk close to the gate. At Itsukushima Shrine, we viewed it from the outside with an explanation, and the guests were very satisfied after enjoying grilled oysters. At the Peace Memorial Park, they saw the Atomic Bomb Dome, the Tower of Memorial to Mobilized Students, the Children's Peace Monument, the basement of the Rest House, and the Cenotaph, and they were deeply moved. Overall, the guests were satisfied with the tour.

I have been a tour guide for 5 years. I always make an effort to behave as a guide with the spirit of Omotenashi, Japanese hospitality, which contains the attitude to entertain not only guests, but also myself. I specialize in art tour in Naoshima, Teshima, Inujima islands, where I have extensive knowledge about modern art. Additionally, I excel in providing historical context at popular tourist destinations like Kurashiki, Okayama, and Takamatsu.I will tailor your tour to your satisfaction , considering your priority, interest, taste. I do my best to provide as many explanations as possible based on your preferences. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with you.

    • Motohakone 11:25 Stroll around the area. 12:10 By special bus to Kowakudani. Via mountain railway. Hakone Open-Air Museum. After entering, in front of the restaurant. The customer offered that they would act on their own and return to the hotel afterward. Disbanded at pm 1:00

Title: What Is a Private Hakone Tour Focused on Mt. Fuji Views Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Yesterday the guests traveled on their own from Hakone-Yumoto Station by bus to their accommodation using their smartphone, and in general they move around freely with their smartphone once a destination is set. The guests' top priority was seeing Mt. Fuji. My role was to plan a route that combined their other desired destinations with the right places and timing to view Mt. Fuji, and to arrange things so they could be seated on the bus, taking into account the morning and afternoon weather conditions of the day, the day of the week, the number of other travelers, and the flow of movement. As a result, we took the route described above, the guests were satisfied, and by the time we reached the Hakone Open-Air Museum they said they now understood the route to Miyanoshita and could manage the rest on their own with their smartphone, so we parted ways there.

Title: What's an Early-Morning Toyosu Fish Market and Tsukiji Private Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Because the meeting hotel was near Haneda Airport and it takes about 30 minutes by taxi to Toyosu, the group gathered in the hotel lobby at 4:45 in the early morning to depart. We headed straight to the wholesale building and first secured a window with a good view of the frozen tuna auction area. With 15 minutes remaining before the start, I split the guests into pairs and had them take turns going back and forth to the inner window where fresh tuna could be seen. Until 5:30, I explained the tuna auction methods and the reasons for the relocation from Tsukiji while we waited for the main event. Once the auction began, the guests watched intently for about 45 minutes, exchanging questions and answers, and then we toured the intermediate wholesalers' building. After that, we took a bus to the Tsukiji Outer Market. This morning we were lucky to see a 145 kg fresh tuna being cut up at a seafood shop. During the stroll, the guests bought beans and enjoyed fresh seafood, and before long it was time to part ways. The guests said they would continue to wander around on their own.

Title: What Is a Private Half-Day Asakusa Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Due to the very hot weather and the guests' request to visit only Asakusa, I guided them with plenty of time to spare. Since the transfer from Ikebukuro to Asakusa passes through Otemachi, I suggested viewing the Imperial Palace from indoors. I also asked about their upcoming plans, and learned that they were heading to Kiso-Fukushima but had not yet purchased tickets, and that they would be in Tokyo for a few days and wished to have a subway pass. Therefore, we purchased JR tickets and a 72-hour Tokyo subway pass at Ikebukuro Station before heading to Otemachi. I guided them inside the Palace Building, but as the guests wished to enter the East Gardens, I took them to the rest area inside and had their pamphlet stamped. As expected, Asakusa was quite hot, but I lent them a parasol to help them cope. Since the guests planned to have lunch on their own, we parted ways near the Nakamise shopping street.

Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour from Arashiyama to Kinkaku-ji Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests had just arrived in Kyoto from Tokyo the day before and seemed a little tired. Since a request came the previous night to start at 9:30, the tour began with an agreement to finish at 15:00. We headed to Arashiyama by the shortest route from the Hotel, and just as the guests were enjoying taking photos in Arashiyama for a while, they became completely exhausted. Normally the bamboo grove and Tenryu-ji can be covered in about an hour, but that was not possible today. When I suggested taking a taxi for the move from Arashiyama to Kinkaku-ji, the guests said they would like that, so from then on we used taxis for everything. At Kinkaku-ji, some of the guests no longer had the energy to pose for photos, so the others enjoyed taking pictures, and we left Kinkaku-ji quickly and went to Nishiki Market. At Nishiki Market some of the guests enjoyed shopping, and others enjoyed sushi. Since the guests said they wanted to enjoy shopping at Nishiki Market, I explained how to get back to the Hotel and how to get to the Kyoto International Manga Museum, and we parted ways. I was glad that even the guest who is usually shy and does not normally shake hands with others was able to say goodbye with a proper handshake.

I should have given up guiding. During the Covid, I’ve read many books and made my own materials to explain Japanese culture, history, etc. I love guiding because the guests expand my horizon all the time and let me know their own country and culture, etc. It is really important for us all to know each other and respect each other to make this world peace. Since some of the guests were not feeling very well and there was concern about whether the group would be able to adjust to Japan's heat, I planned to take breaks at cafés at each spot and kept the itinerary comfortable and relaxed. The temperature was very high from early in the morning, so in Asakusa I extended our time inside the Culture Tourism Center and shortened the time spent walking outdoors. On the other hand, at Takeshita Street the group wished to shop at several stores, so we spent a longer time there. At the end of the tour we had planned to have lunch at a restaurant inside JR Tokyo Station, but the restaurant was crowded and, since some of the guests began to feel unwell again, the group decided to take a taxi from Tokyo Station back to the Hotel. We ended the tour slightly early at this station.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

What Is a Private Miyajima and Itsukushima Shrine Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests had originally planned to join as a group, but on the day the tour proceeded with a slightly smaller group, as one of the guests did not participate due to a strong emotional reaction from visiting a peace memorial museum the previous day. Some of the guests had previously lived in Japan for a period and had a strong desire to share the wonderful aspects of Japanese culture, which is why they planned this trip to Japan. Since they had expressed a wish to take photos in advance, Daishoin Temple was also included as a planned destination, but most of the time was devoted to taking videos and photos at Itsukushima Shrine and its surroundings. A wedding ceremony was taking place at Itsukushima Shrine, and they were able to photograph that as well. The guests also took an interest in offering coins and drawing omikuji fortunes, and enjoyed the experience. They also love Japanese food, and mealtimes were filled with big smiles. I would like to thank [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) for promptly responding regarding how to guide in case the tour was delayed, and for also sending an email to the guests.
