    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from North America. They were radiating a joyful, happy atmosphere, which warmed my heart as well. Since they wanted to see as many places as possible using a taxi, we moved at a fairly brisk pace, but because of the intense heat, we took a break at each spot. In particular, we were able to get into a bread and espresso cafe that is usually so crowded you cannot get in, and being able to relax there pleased the guests very much. We were also lucky to get seats on the train to Inari. The guests had brought an umbrella and a neck-hanging fan, which turned out to be an excellent choice. They enjoyed the tour very much.

    Bye bye smart phone!! Let’s enjoy Japan without bothering to check up your phone all the time with not AI but a local guide like me. Hi, my name is Mimmy. You may think this sounds like a kitten’s name.
    I use this nickname because it sounds cute and easy to remember. However,
    I actually look rounded, a middle aged woman more like a yellow character of M&Mchocolate, which reminds you of my name easily when you see me.
    I was born in Osaka, went to school in Kobe, went to work in Kyoto and married but still live in Osaka. I am a local, native Osakan. My 3 children are all grown up and live separately except one son. Now I live with one son and a husband in suburbs of the Osaka city.
    I like travelling, walking around the town and anything new.
    I got my guide license in 2017 and started guiding after that. I wasn’t able to work during Covid period but start guiding in 2022 again. I guide Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe and have experienced more than100 tours including bus tours.
    I would like to tell you about the itineraries I usually have in each area.
    In Osaka, we usually go to Osaka castle, Shinsekai and Dotonbori Namba area.
    I think most important part you should see is Dotonbori Namba in Osaka.
    This place is vibrant , energetic, full of 3D signs and different from any other place in Japan.
    In Kyoto, we cannot see all famous sightseeing spots in one day.
    It will be better to visit each area respectively. I recommend guests who come to Kyoto first time to visit East area, Kiyomizu Temple>Sannenzaka>Ninenzaka>Ishibeikouji>Yasaka shrine> Gion area. This area has an atmosphere of traditional old Kyoto. The most Kyoto like places which suit Kimono. You can rent Kimono in a lot of places around here.
    The second place I recommend you is West area: Golden temple and Arashiyama area where Bamboo forest , Tenryuji temple, mountains and a river. There are several nice gardens in this area. If you want to enjoy the nature quietly, you
    should come here when it is not crowded (Winter is the most quiet)
    In Nara which used to be a capital even older than Kyoto, we visit Todaiji Temple where a huge Buddha is sitting inside of one of the largest wooden hall and you can play with deer everywhere in Nara. Naramachi: a small town in this area is a local place where small interesting shops are.
    In Kobe, a port city, you can visit Japanese Sake breweries, Herb garden and the top of Mt.Rokko for viewing Kobe city. A small China town is there, too.

    Now I bet you want to leave home to explore somewhere else you do not know.
    Not only going to somewhere else, we can help you to do several experiences: making tea, making Japanese sweet, making Takoyaki(food), wearing Kimono, making food samples, attending a tea ceremony, throwing Shriken like Ninja, Using bow and arrow like Samurai, , , ,

    Title: What Is a Private Arashiyama Tour in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. They had previously traveled to various countries in Europe and North America, but this was their first visit to Japan, made possible by one member's strong wish to experience Japan's advanced technology and its Nintendo and anime culture, timed with a summer break. One of the guests used both a camera with a telephoto lens and a smartphone camera, and took close-up photographs of camouflaged insects and lizards that could only be spotted along the roadside with careful observation during our walk. Although it was not originally on the itinerary, the group greatly enjoyed the lotus pond beside Mikami Shrine, which happened to be in full bloom. Due to the intense summer heat, and following the group's wishes, we omitted Daikaku-ji Temple from the original plan and, after visiting the Monkey Park, returned directly to the hotel, where we exchanged smiles and handshakes and said our goodbyes.

    Born, raised and married in Kyoto, I am Masaaki Tanaka started English-speaking licensed guide since 2008, guiding mostly those English-speaking inbound tourists in Kyoto, which is my home base, and in Osaka (where I woked so long time until my retirment) and Nara and in other Kansai areas incl. Kobe, Koyasan, etc. If allowed, I can say I am somewhat experinced in Japanese history (especially in its culture). When young, I lived and worked for some 11 years in the Middle East, which areas, accordingly, I am still quite familiar to . My hobby includes : seeing Noh Play and Kabuki, hearing Musics in general (Beethoven, Beatles, Jazz & Rock’n Rolls as well as Japanese classicals), seeing the paintings/artworks in general, playing the piano (all time at beginner’s level, though), playing the guitar and, when younger, I enjoyed skiing and business golf. Also, I am, since my childhoo, a great fan of Tigers in Japan’s pro-base ball. I love cats (keeping now an old female ‘Chee’ chan) , and certainly my wife Tokuko as well.

    Title: What's a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like for a Family Group? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a family group visiting Japan, now based in Europe. Not all members of the family were able to join this time, as some had commitments abroad. This trip was planned as a special summer holiday before some of the guests moved on to the next stage of their lives, and in the end the group grew to include additional companions. During the tour, one of the guests began to feel unwell in Ginza, so we took a short rest inside the station. After drinking plenty of water and using a cooling ice pack I had brought with me, the guest recovered, and we were able to continue with the rest of the itinerary. The guests were enthusiastic about shopping and purchased chopsticks and knives at Nakamise and the surrounding area. I had thought about showing them a bit of Takeshita Street, but since they had a dinner reservation, we returned to the hotel on time as planned. The next day, the guests planned to visit Shibuya Sky on their own, and mentioned they would return to Meiji Shrine and Takeshita Street once more around that time.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What Is a Private Day Trip from Tokyo to Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests booked a private Hakone day trip and requested guiding for the Hakone area in this format. They were pleased with the tour, and we said goodbye at Yumoto Station. This was a valuable experience of receiving a request for Hakone guiding as a day trip departing from Tokyo. Reflecting on the day, I realized I had not been sensitive enough to sudden changes in the weather, and I was able to simulate situations where it becomes necessary to accurately grasp announcements on public transportation and consider minor adjustments to the itinerary.     Who am I?
    I am a Licensed Guide Interpreter at an age of 61.
    I got an early retirement from 36 yrs of the employment in a Japanese financial sector.
    I hope I can attend to you with the Japanese politeness, hospitality and smile.

    What can I be expected?
    I would like to introduce the photogenic sites, the indigenous experiences
    and good Japanese local food around Tokyo, Hakone/Mt Fuji.
    I might be able to show you the features of shrine and temple with a religious manner if you’d like.
    As a matter of fact, I don’t have a specific religion to believe, though.
    I love Japan and that’s why I started a new career as a guide.

    What do I love?
    Most of all, my family. I have a wife 56 yrs old, a son 28 yrs old and a daughter 25 yrs old.
    I like eating raw fish and sushi, buckwheat noodles and curry rice.

    How do I spend my spear time?
    I run for 5 km in the morning listening to my favorite music.
    I might have a chance to go to a studio program in the fitness club nearby once a week.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, and Nishiki Market The guests were a group visiting from North America. They were very polite and cheerful, and I first guided them to Fushimi Inari Taisha, explaining Shinto, and then to Kiyomizu-dera, where I explained Buddhism as we toured each site. They had a strong interest in Japanese culture and listened attentively to my explanations, which made for an enjoyable guiding experience for me. Unfortunately, the Kyoto Imperial Palace was closed that day, so I could not meet the guests' wishes to visit it, but we had lunch at a nearby restaurant and enjoyed casual conversation about Japanese cuisine and more. After lunch, since there was a sudden shower and they wished to go shopping, I guided them to Nishiki Market. They seemed to really enjoy the market, starting a sake tasting comparison and losing track of time as they enjoyed shopping. However, the scheduled time to part ways soon arrived, and when I asked what they would like to do next, the guests said they wanted to enjoy the market and shopping a little longer, so we parted ways in the Teramachi area.

    What Is a Private Family Day Tour of Kyoto Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. During the pre-tour consultation, we agreed to visit the four places mentioned above (initially there was talk of also going to Arashiyama and Yasaka Pagoda, but I explained that this would be difficult given the time available, so we settled on the above four locations). The itinerary proceeded as planned, but it was extremely hot, so we moved along while taking breaks as needed, such as stepping into shops with air conditioning. At our final stop, Fushimi Inari, we were caught in a thunderstorm and had to take shelter from the rain for a while. Some of the guests were tired toward the end and rested in the car. It was challenging given the season, but I was glad we were able to see everyone safely back to their hotel without any major problems.

    Hi, every one. How have you been? I am JGA tour guide Kazu. It is my great pleasure that I can introduce myself here. I am already more than 70 years old, but I believe I am still young both mentally and physically. I like walking with my customers very much. I am from Tokyo, but now

    I live in Kyoto traditional city and an old capital of Japan. I had worked at electric manufacturing company for more than 40 years. While I was working at that company, fortunately I had a lot of chances to visit many foreign countries.

    I lived in Singapore, Malaysia, Poland and Mexico. Also I visited America, Britain, and other countries. Basically I used English to proceed my job there, however I always tried to speak local languages as much as possible. Through staying other countries, I found that there were great differences of the culture or the way of thinking between those countries and Japan. I though I had a valuable experience. After I retired from the company 5 years ago, I began to work as a tour guide although I got the National English tour guide license 7 years ago. Besides English I speak Spanish but I don’t have Spanish tour guide license yet. I belong to the comany JGA and worked around 10 days a month. So far I accompanied with mu customers more than 100 groups. All of my tour was good and lucky as I was always favored with gentle and kind customers.

    My hobby is playing the guitar, dancing and learning foreign languages. I sometimes join the concert by playing the guitar, and it is fun for me. Though I like dancing, I can not dance well. I only enjoy dancing here in Japan.

    About the tour in Japan, I usually take my tourists to the famous spots in Kyoto like Kinkakuji, Kiyomizu dera, Fushimi inari, Gion area,Nishiki market and Arashiyama area. In Arashiyama area we often visit Bamboo forest,Nonomiya shrine,Togetsukyou bridge and Kimono forest. I will cope with my customers demands as much as possible so that I try to visit any places up to your requests.

    What Is a Private Himeji Castle and Koko-en Garden Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. We met in front of the central ticket gate at Himeji Station, visited Castle View, Himeji Castle, and Koko-en Garden, and parted ways in front of the Shinkansen ticket gate at Himeji Station. This was another extremely hot day. Because of this, I gave my explanations at each sightseeing point in the shade, and we only stepped into the sunlight when taking photos. The guests had traveled through Kanazawa and Takayama before coming to Himeji, and they planned to head to Kyoto today. They were very delighted by the beauty of Himeji Castle, and they also showed an interest in the Japanese language, asking things like how to say "beautiful" in Japanese. After Koko-en Garden, we returned to Himeji Station by taxi, and they seemed very pleased with today's tour.

    Title: What Is a Private Kamakura and Enoshima Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe on their first trip to Japan. They mentioned that after sightseeing in Tokyo, they planned to travel to Shikoku and Kyushu. They said they had intentionally avoided popular destinations such as Kyoto and chose places less frequented by foreign tourists. At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, they showed great interest in the explanation of the differences between a shrine and a temple. On Komachi Street, they enjoyed shopping at souvenir shops and having ramen for lunch. They appeared deeply impressed by the giant Kannon statue at Hasedera Temple and the Great Buddha at Kotoku-in Temple. At Enoshima, they enjoyed the beautiful ocean scenery and the approach to Enoshima Shrine. Since I responded to the guests' wishes as requested, I believe they were satisfied.

    A Private Family Tour of Miyajima and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park: A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe. Due to the intense summer heat, one of the guests was feeling a little tired, so we rested for a while in the shade near the entrance, since the stairs at Daishoin Temple are quite demanding. The famous dark passage at Daishoin Temple, the Kaidan-meguri, had reopened, so I guided some of the guests through it. I explained that there are two ways to experience the darkness — one where you proceed in silence, and one where you chant the Heart Sutra as you go — and asked which they preferred. They said they would like the Heart Sutra, so I chanted it wholeheartedly. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park was very busy with preparations ahead of August 6, the anniversary of the atomic bombing.

    What Is a Private One-Day Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Sumiyoshi Taisha, and Shitenno-ji The guests were a group visiting Osaka. Originally another member of the group was also scheduled to join, but was unable to participate due to feeling unwell in the heat. The day was again extremely hot (with a brief shower at Osaka Castle), but we were able to move around smoothly. Both of the guests observed each spot with great interest and took many photographs. At Sumiyoshi Taisha, they picked up the popular small stones inscribed with the characters for "Go-Dai-Riki" (Five Great Powers) and also purchased amulet pouches. One of the guests drew an omikuji fortune and was delighted to receive "Dai-kichi" (great good luck). Afterward, on the way from Shitenno-ji to Osaka Castle, they enjoyed some taiyaki inside Tennoji Station and seemed very satisfied. At Osaka Castle I guided only the exterior, and since admission was for the guests only, we parted at the entrance. A half-day Himeji tour is scheduled with these guests tomorrow, and it was mentioned that the other member of the group will likely be able to join then.     I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
    real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
    if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

    Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
    that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
    and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
    foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
    Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

    I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
