    Tour Report: What Is a Private Tour of Tsukiji and Meiji Shrine Like? A Licensed Guide's Report A private tour for guests from North America. After explaining an overview of Tokyo and Japan at the Hotel, we started from the Tsukiji Outer Market. Because it was a day when the Toyosu Market was closed, the number of open shops was fewer than usual, but there was still a fair number of foreign tourists looking for places to eat and drink. The guests enjoyed lunch at a nearby sushi restaurant, and upon leaving, one of the guests told the sushi chef, "It was delicious, but I'm sorry I couldn't finish it all." They mentioned that they had eaten a sandwich before the tour started, so they were unable to eat everything. Later, when we headed toward Meiji Shrine from the Kitasando side, the gate had closed five minutes earlier, and I had to apologize to the guests for the inconvenience.

    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, coming to Japan for the first time. They were referred by a previous guest whom I had guided in Kyoto last March. Since it was their first trip to Japan, they were curious about everything and asked a wide variety of questions in the taxi, at the temples, and at the castle. They suddenly requested a change to the itinerary, asking to visit Ryoan-ji instead of Kiyomizu-dera, so I adjusted the course accordingly. Because they mentioned they were planning to enjoy a tea ceremony the next day, I took extra time to explain the dry landscape garden, the concept of wabi-sabi, and wabi-cha in particular. It was memorable how attentively they listened. No expenses were advanced.

    Title: What Is a Private Day Trip from Tokyo to Nikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe, all coming to Japan for the first time. Part of the group divides their time between two European cities, living half the year in each, while the others reside in another European city. The guests came from various backgrounds within Europe. They had arrived at Haneda two mornings earlier and taken a taxi to their hotel. During the daytime they explored Akihabara and Ginza. The group planned to stay in Japan for fifteen days. The day after next they planned a day trip to Hakone, followed by visits to Nagano, Kanazawa, Kyoto, and Osaka, before departing from Kansai Airport to visit other destinations abroad on their way home. Some of the guests followed a plant-based diet. The whole group had a very relaxed, easygoing temperament — moving at their own pace, unconcerned about time, and loving to chat. It was an overcast day, though we were not rained on. On the way we took the "Spacia," and on the return the "Liberty Kegon" (the trains were full). With a little time before the train's departure, we briefly strolled through the grounds of Senso-ji Temple. On board, I explained the history of Japan and of Edo/Tokyo, Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Tokugawa shogunate, the history of Nikko Toshogu, the period of national isolation, the Meiji Restoration, and the system of alternate attendance (sankin-kotai). After arriving at Tobu-Nikko Station, we took a bus to the Shinkyo Bridge. We then took our time visiting Rinno-ji Temple, Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, and Taiyuin. There were many questions, such as "What are the torii gates for?", "What kind of religion is Shinto? How do Buddhism and Shinto differ?", and "Why was the five-story pagoda built?" (Buddhism and Shinto proved quite difficult for them to grasp.) On the other hand, they already knew the stories behind the "Three Wise Monkeys" and the "Sleeping Cat." We had lunch at a teahouse near the Nishi-Sando bus stop. They enjoyed a "yuba set meal" and "sansai soba." There was even a question of whether the broth was made from bonito or kelp. One of the guests remarked, "From now on, whenever we have trouble finding a meal, we'll just go into a soba shop." After this we headed to Kanmangafuchi Abyss. Taking photographs here and there, they strolled slowly, saying "The river flow is so beautiful" and "I love walking along paths like this." We then took a bus from the Nishi-Sando bus stop back to Tobu-Nikko Station. On the way home, the Tobu Nikko Line was significantly delayed due to a personal accident. They made comments such as "Everywhere in the city is clean and beautiful. There's no litter on the ground," "There are no homeless people," and "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant." They also found the subway hard to understand, so in the end I saw them off at Shiomi Station, where we parted ways.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were first-time visitors to Japan from Europe, having heard from friends who had traveled to Japan that they highly recommended it. Within Asia, they had previously visited only Thailand. They had arrived in Japan a couple of days earlier, and on the day before the tour they explored the Shinjuku and Ebisu areas on their own. At Meiji Shrine, having researched in advance that handwritten goshuin (shrine seal) books were available, one of the guests purchased a goshuin book with today's date written in it. For lunch, the guests had a specific request to eat either ramen or katsudon, so just after noon I guided them to "Tsujita" in Shibuya, which happened to be nearby. I also explained how to buy meal tickets from the vending machine. The guests each ordered a soup noodle dish and a tsukemen dish, experiencing both. They were very satisfied and said it was delicious. For after-meal coffee, they wanted to have Italian-style espresso, so after visiting the Imperial Palace, as we strolled along Marunouchi Naka-dori toward Tokyo Station, we found an Italian café where we could take a break. Finally, I guided them to "Hoppy Street," the drinking district in Asakusa, and they said they would continue enjoying the area after the tour ended.

    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Kinkaku-ji The guests were a group visiting from North America who had been friends since their university days. They arrived in Japan at Kansai International Airport the previous day, and everything they saw seemed new and fascinating to them, so they took many photos everywhere we went. Fushimi Inari Taisha was extremely crowded with a large number of school trip students. Here, the guests drew omikuji fortunes. They asked me to introduce a chopstick shop that engraves names, so I recommended shops both near Fushimi Inari Taisha and in Gion, but they did not make a purchase on the spot. While strolling through Gion, the guests said they wanted ramen for lunch, so I took them to a nearby ramen restaurant. However, one of the guests suddenly said they could not eat meat, which caught me off guard. Unfortunately, this particular ramen shop did not offer a suitable option, so they decided to skip lunch. I had asked about their lunch preferences before departure, and since certain dietary requirements had not been mentioned at that time, I had not been particularly concerned. I reflect that my insufficient confirmation at that point was the cause of this miscommunication. At Kinkaku-ji, for some reason, I did not see any school trip students at all. After Kinkaku-ji, I saw the guests off in a taxi and we parted ways there.

    Can You Do a Rainy-Day Private Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Tsukiji, and Harajuku I arrived at the meeting-point hotel about 20 minutes early, but the guests were already in the lobby, so we were able to meet up right away. The guests were visitors from South America, and since they were fluent in English, communication was easy. That day we were troubled by rain throughout. Thinking the weather might worsen in the afternoon, we visited the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace in the morning, but it started to rain while we were exploring the main keep, and we ended up walking through the Ninomaru Garden in heavy rain. The guests were well prepared and had brought raincoats, so I was relieved that there was no need to worry about getting wet. During our conversation I learned that sushi was a particular favorite, so I changed the original plan and we had lunch at a sushi restaurant in Tsukiji. They also enjoyed grilled eel skewers and sake, and I believe they were very satisfied. Because we started early, we had plenty of time to spare, and in Harajuku I also showed them Takeshita Street. I heard they would be moving to a hotel inside Tokyo Disneyland after the tour, so I explained how to get from Harajuku Station to Maihama Station before we parted ways.

    I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
    I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
    One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.

    What Is a Private Tsukiji and Toyosu Fish Market Walking Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. It was their first time in Japan, and the day before they had already visited Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, and other sites on a six-hour Tokyo tour, possibly arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/). At Toyosu, I explained the reasons for the market's relocation, the value and role of the intermediary wholesalers, and the supply chain. Following the movement of the auctioned tuna, I guided them from the seafood wholesale building to the intermediary wholesale building and then to the fish market building in Tsukiji. At Kitani, a fairly large tuna was lying ready before being cut, so the guests could observe parts of the tuna such as the cut surface of the tail fin, which at Toyosu could only be seen from above. At the outer market, they tried tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), but like many guests I have guided before, it did not seem to suit their taste. At Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, I explained about religion in Japan. Since they had eaten sushi twice the day before and wanted something other than sushi, I guided them to the Tsukiji Hongwanji café (Tsumugi), where this tour concluded. Incidentally, I was asked to join them for breakfast, so I accompanied them personally (see the second photo).

    What Is a Private Hiroshima Cruise Port Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report We were relieved to be able to complete the tour safely without skipping the port, as there was no impact from the typhoon. The guests were pleased, since it had been raining continuously in Tokyo due to the typhoon. Although the temperature exceeded 30 degrees again today, perhaps because of the consecutive days of heat, it felt very comfortable. The cruise shuttle bus did not go to the city center but only as far as Hiroshima Port. Since we took the train on the way there, it took quite a long time. The museum was not very crowded, so we were able to view it smoothly. On the way back we took the bus, and although it was crowded during rush hour, we saved time compared to the train. Since the guests wanted to finish at the cruise port, we ended the tour at the shuttle bus stop.

    I have experienced many tours of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum & Park since I was a junior high school student. I would like to introduce you to the a-bomb legacies that are still existing in the city and the stories under the mushroom cloud.
    I also would like to share time with you on a historic island, Miyajima. There is one of the most famous Shinto shrines, the Itsukushima Shrine. We can share an enjoyable time by exploring a sacred atmosphere, tradition, nature, food, etc.

    I am also an official ‘A-bomb legacy successor’ designated by the City of Hiroshima. An A-bomb Legacy Successor is a memory keeper of the A-bomb survivors. To ensure that the A-bomb survivors’ experiences and desires for peace are faithfully inherited and shared with as many people as possible, the City has started a three-year training program for official ‘A-bomb Legacy Successors. ‘

    Private Guided Tour of Izumo Taisha and Matsue Castle in Shimane: A Licensed Guide's Report During our email exchange beforehand, I mentioned Japan's intense summer heat, and there was a suggestion to move up the departure time by one hour, so we set off at 9:00. The day turned out to be hot, but the guests were in good spirits and handled the tour with energy. The group had a strong interest in the form of the ancient Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine and the structure of Matsue Castle, and I received many questions. They were cheerful North American guests, and it was clear that they were enjoying the tour. In particular, they were pleased to understand the connection between the origins of Izumo Taisha and the many statues depicting mythology found in the Tamatsukuri Onsen where they were staying.

    I started as a volunteer guide for foreign tourists at Matsue Castle in Shimane Prefecture when I was in my 40s, and after retiring at the age of 60, I became a certified interpreter guide and expanded the scope of my activities to include all of Shimane Prefecture, as well as Tottori and Hiroshima Prefectures.
    I was born and raised in Matsue City in western Japan. Matsue is a medium-sized city and the capital of Shimane Prefecture. It is a quiet town that retains the old atmosphere with Matsue Castle, which was built over 400 years ago, and is known for its culture of drinking matcha green tea frequently. I would like to share with you the charm of a regional city like Matsue. Near Matsue, there is a shrine called Izumo Grand Shrine, one of the largest, oldest and most venerated shrines in Japan. The origin of this shrine is written in the Japanese myths, and its precincts are very mysterious. Shimane Prefecture and the neighboring prefecture of Tottori were the setting of Japanese mythology and have well preserved Japan’s historical heritage and traditions. Shimane and Tottori prefectures are not on the so-called “golden route” frequented by foreign tourists, but I hope they will be included in your sightseeing route because they are full of Japan’s unique charm. From its beginnings to the present day, Japan has weaved a long history without being dominated by any other country or, conversely, without advocating hegemony over neighboring countries – although, unfortunately, it did invade Asian countries for a period of time in the 20th century. It is my great pleasure to introduce you to a part of Japan’s culture, which is diverse and peaceful. I am also a guide in Hiroshima Prefecture, the southern neighbor of Shimane Prefecture. I mainly guide visitors to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, where I try to convey the tragic event of the atomic bombing based on the testimonies of those who suffered as much as possible. It is a place that you should definitely visit at least once.
    Furthermore, I hope to convey the Japanese way of thinking and lifestyle through various conversations during the guided tour. This is also one of my joys.
