A Licensed Guide's Report **Body:** The guests were visitors from Europe who came to Kyoto after traveling through Tokyo, Hakone, and Osaka. They had expected Japan's weather in September to be cooler, but were a little worn out by the unfortunately intense heat. At Fushimi Inari, we discussed the differences between Shinto and Buddhism, as well as nature worship. They mentioned that there is also a tradition of nature worship dating back to the Viking era in their home region, and that some people still practice it. At Nijo Castle, they seemed interested in the historical background leading to the return of political power to the Emperor at the end of the shogunate era. They were also impressed by the fusuma paintings and transom carvings of the Ninomaru Palace, as well as the Japanese garden. At Sanjusangendo, they marveled at the powerful presence of the 1,001 Buddhist statues and the 28 guardian deities. Finally, we parted ways at Nishiki Market.

    Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Peace Park, Miyajima, and Hiroshima Castle The guests were visitors from Oceania, and it was mentioned that, aside from a trip to a neighboring country in the region, this was their first time traveling abroad. Since they had visited a museum the previous day, the tour focused mainly on the Peace Park and Miyajima. Today was another very hot day, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees. We stopped to rehydrate twice along the way. On a Hiroshima tour, you can refill water for free at places such as the Peace Memorial Museum, the Rest House, inside the MUJI store, and the TOTO hospitality restrooms. At okonomiyaki restaurants, the owner will also offer water. When I asked about their wishes, they said they wanted to visit Hiroshima Castle, so the tour concluded at Hiroshima Castle. The pedestrian walkway from the soccer stadium is a new photo spot for Hiroshima Castle. If you take the bus from Yokogawa Station, you get off at the very spot where canna flowers bloomed the month after the atomic bombing, which adds an extra sense of significance. As it was time to finish at the castle, the tour came to an end.

    In Hiroshima, there are two famous World Heritage Sites, the Atomic Bomb Dome in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial & Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima.
    I have experienced many tours of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum & Park since I was a junior high school student. I would like to introduce you to the a-bomb legacies that are still existing in the city and the stories under the mushroom cloud.
    I also would like to share time with you on a historic island, Miyajima. There is one of the most famous Shinto shrines, the Itsukushima Shrine. We can share an enjoyable time by exploring a sacred atmosphere, tradition, nature, food, etc.

    I am also an official ‘A-bomb legacy successor’ designated by the City of Hiroshima. An A-bomb Legacy Successor is a memory keeper of the A-bomb survivors. To ensure that the A-bomb survivors’ experiences and desires for peace are faithfully inherited and shared with as many people as possible, the City has started a three-year training program for official ‘A-bomb Legacy Successors. ‘

    What Is a Private Nagasaki Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park I guided a group visiting from Europe. At the start, they requested that I proceed with the tour while keeping an eye on how things went, as one of the guests was not feeling well physically. Because the temperature exceeded 35 degrees Celsius, they used a taxi. Their purpose in coming to Nagasaki was to visit the Atomic Bomb Museum and the Peace Park, but when I spoke about the Hidden Christians and the story of Dr. Nagai, they also became interested in the Nyokodo, so we visited it together, and they were very pleased.     Nagasaki Prefecture is located on the western coast of Kyushu, southwest region of Japan. The prefecture consists of the mainland, and also hundreds of islands that dot its coastline. Being on the west coast and surrounded by ocean and mountains, Nagasaki is well-known for its stunning sunset view over the turquoise ocean; its slow-paste island paradise; and its pride for having the most variety of fresh seafood in all of Japan.

    Historically, Nagasaki Prefecture played a very important role in Japan’s international relations. During the Edo period, Japan closed its borders and started its 214 years of national isolation between 1639 – 1853. During this time, Nagasaki was the only port that permitted foreign trade. As such, a vast amount of culture, knowledge and food from Asia and Europe flowed to and from Japan via Nagasaki, which contributed greatly to the modernization of Japan. Today, many of the influences from that period such as food, architecture, festivals, and culture can still be seen throughout the prefecture today.

    Nagasaki Prefecture has survived many tragic events such as the persecution of Christians during the Edo period; the eruption of Mt. Unzen, which was the deadliest volcanic eruption recorded in Japanese history; and the atomic bombing of Nagasaki City in World War II. Having to overcome and rebubild from these heartbreaking events, Nagasaki now thrives as an international city with the mission to send and promote would peace. In addition, during World Night View Summit in 2012, Nagasaki City was recognized as one of the “World’s Top 3 Night View” alongside Hong Kong and Monaco.

    The culinary culture in Nagasaki Prefecture has always been one of a kind in Japan. Many local cuisines in the prefecture were developed in the Edo Period when Nagasaki was an international trading port. As such, the mixture of cultural influences were also reflected on the local dishes, and these tasty dishes were then passed down for generations to what it is famously known for today (champon, shippoku, castella and many more).

    Nagasaki is a Treasure-Chest of Seafood. The coastline of Nagasaki is long and intricate with remote islands, coves and bays. This coastline, along with the sea current, creates one of the best locations for fishing in Japan. Nagasaki hauls in the second largest fish catch in Japan, but it is ranked No.1 for having the most variety of fish, with over 250 species! Some of the most common types of seafood that you can enjoy year-round include Japanese Horse Mackerel (Aji), Chub Mackerel (Saba), Red Sea Bream (Tai), Grunt (Isaki), Pufferfish (Fugu), Yellowtail Amberjack (Buri), Pike Conger Eels (Anago), and Marble Rockfish (Arakabu). Other seasonal specialities include Japanese Spiny Lobster (Ise-ebi), Flounder (Hirame), Flying Fish (Ago), Cutlassfish (Tachiuo) and many more!

    Throughout the prefecture, you can easily enjoy fresh and delicious seafood in various ways including sashimi, sushi, seafood rice bowl, hotpot, and even steaming it over a natural hot spring! There are also numerous gourmet events throughout the year for seafood lovers!

    What Is a Private Tokyo Sightseeing Tour Like for Older Guests? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They arrived at Narita Airport the previous evening and traveled to their hotel by chauffeured car. The main purpose of this visit to Japan was a cruise around Japan departing from Yokohama Port starting the next day. They were able to walk but wished to go around slowly at an easy pace. They mentioned, "It's much hotter and more humid than we're used to, and we're struggling with it. That said, this past winter had unusual weather too, with little snow and a lot of rain." In the intense heat, this became a tour where we took many breaks and went around slowly. From the station near the hotel, we traveled via Yokohama Station and Ueno Station to Asakusa first. We walked around Sensoji Temple, Asakusa Shrine, and the Nakamise shopping street. I explained "an overview of Japanese history," "Sensoji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." There were questions such as "What kind of religion and teachings is Buddhism?" "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?" and "Are there people who believe in religions other than Buddhism?" There was also a question: "Was Tokyo affected by war damage during World War II?" After this, we moved to the Imperial Palace. I explained "the history of the change from Edo to Tokyo," "the Meiji Restoration," and "the current Imperial Family." There were also questions such as "Does the Emperor really live inside here?" and "Why did the castle become the Imperial Palace?" They said, "The Japanese garden is wonderful." From here, we went to the observation deck of the Metropolitan Government Building. They said, "Now I really understand how large Tokyo is and what kind of city it is." We moved to Harajuku. At Meiji Shrine, I explained "the difference between Shinto and Buddhism" and "what a torii gate is." We had a light lunch and rest at Forest Terrace Meiji Jingu. They said, "It's wonderful that there is such a green place in the center of the city." After that, we moved to Shibuya, crossed the scramble intersection, and took commemorative photos in front of the Hachiko statue. There were questions such as "Is it always this crowded?" and "Why do so many people gather here?" They also commented, "The city is so clean. There's no litter on the ground," "There are no trash cans on the streets, why is that?" "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant," and "There are no homeless people." Since they were not sure how to get back to the hotel, I saw them off at Nihon-odori Station in Yokohama, and we parted ways.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Nikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. At Kegon Falls, they were moved by its grandeur. On the way back from Chuzenji Onsen to central Nikko, since there was time before the bus departure, I suggested visiting the Nikko Natural Science Museum near the bus stop, which was not part of the original plan. They gladly agreed and enjoyed their time there. They had fun taking a virtual photo with a bear. For lunch, they enjoyed katsu curry and vegetarian ramen. At Nikko Toshogu Shrine, they purchased bell charms. We then moved to the Shinkyo Bridge. Although it was still early, the guests wanted to head back soon to prepare for their return home, so we walked to Tobu Nikko and parted ways at the station. During lunch, I folded a samurai helmet and a crane out of origami for them, and they were very pleased.

    Tour Title: What Can You See on a Private History and Craft Walking Tour of Central Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of friends visiting from Europe. It was everyone's first visit to Japan. They had arrived at Narita Airport the previous evening and made their way to their hotel via the Narita Express and other connections. They planned to stay in Japan for a total of three weeks. After spending four days in Tokyo, they intended to travel to the Kansai area, staying one night at Koyasan, then touring Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima, before returning to Tokyo and flying home. They said, "We finally managed to book a night's stay at a temple in Koyasan. We're really looking forward to it, but we were surprised that the accommodation cost was higher than expected." They expressed the following wish: "We're not interested in the places general tourists go. We're interested in Japanese history, historic buildings, traditional handicrafts, techniques, and also origami." They also said, "It's so hot and humid, completely different from home, so we're really struggling." In the intense heat, the tour proceeded with many rest breaks. First, we went to the Tsukiji Outer Market. I explained "the history of Tsukiji Market" and "the difference from Toyosu Market." There were also questions such as "Why are there so many people here? Is it always like this?" and "Do all the people in Tokyo come here to buy fish?" We moved on to the Imperial Palace. I explained "the history of the move from Edo to Tokyo," "the Meiji Restoration," and "the current Imperial Family." There were also questions such as "Does the Emperor really live inside here?" and "Why did the castle become the Imperial Palace?" They said, "The Japanese garden is wonderful. At home, we grow bonsai." After viewing the Nijubashi Bridge, we walked a full circuit of the East Gardens, exited toward Takebashi Station, and went to Nihonbashi. After viewing a kimono exhibition at a building, we visited Kiya Honten, Hakuza Nihonbashi, and Ninben Nihonbashi Honten. They seemed particularly drawn to Kiya's kitchen knives and Hakuza's fine gold craftwork and artisan pieces, and viewed them at a leisurely pace. As they said they were hungry, we had lunch at a nearby seafood rice bowl restaurant. After this, we entered Mitsukoshi Main Store. They said, "There's no department store this splendid in our country," and they took their time looking around the store, seeming to especially like the food floor and confectionery section in the basement. Afterward, we visited Ozu Washi, where they experienced Japanese washi papermaking and origami making. Under the strict guidance of the staff, they worked hard and took home the Japanese washi paper and the crane origami they had made. They said, "The history of washi is wonderful," and purchased several washi postcards as souvenirs. They also commented, "The city is so clean. There's no litter on the ground." "There are no trash cans in the city, why is that?" "The public toilets are clean and pleasant." "The subway is quiet and clean, though there is no subway back home." As they were not sure how to get back to the hotel, I saw them off at Shiodome Station, where we parted ways.

    What Is an Early Morning Private Toyosu Fish Market and Tsukiji Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. One of the guests had been to Japan several times before, while it was a first visit to Japan for the group. Five days earlier, the guests arrived at Haneda and headed straight to the Kansai region. After spending four days in Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka, they came to Tokyo by Shinkansen the day before. They plan to spend four days in Tokyo before returning home. After this tour, the guests planned to visit Asakusa, Kappabashi, and Shinjuku. At 5:00 am, we departed by taxi on schedule. We arrived at Toyosu Market at 5:20. We went to the Seafood Wholesale Building, where the guests enthusiastically watched the tuna auction. I explained "the history of Tokyo's fish markets," "the difference between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market," and "the difference between wholesale markets and intermediate wholesale markets." I explained topics such as "where tuna is caught," "whether all the tuna from around the world is sent to Toyosu Market," "the market's holidays," and "the types of tuna and which kind is the most expensive." There was also a question about "how much a single tuna costs." From the second-floor general observation corridor, it was hard to see the "fresh tuna" auction taking place below. The guests mentioned that they had applied from North America for the lottery to access the special observation deck, but were not selected. After this, we toured the Intermediate Wholesale Building. There were questions such as "what kind of people come here to buy" and "whether it is possible to go inside to view it." We took the Yurikamome and the subway to move to the Tsukiji Outer Market, and slowly walked around the area. The guests took a liking to "wasabi peanuts" and bought some as a souvenir. Saying "we're hungry and would really like to have sushi for breakfast here," we went to a sushi restaurant. They were shown to counter seats without having to wait. They enjoyed sake along with various pieces of nigiri sushi, monkfish liver, and more. (The guests were big fans of sashimi and sushi.) They commented that it was "the first time in their lives having sushi for breakfast." They also commented, "the streets are so clean. There's no litter." In addition, they remarked and asked, "we don't see any homeless people," and "there are no trash cans on the streets. Why is that?" Saying "we'd like to go back to the hotel and rest for a while," I saw them off at Tokyo Station near their hotel, and we parted ways.

    Title: What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour Like for Scenery Lovers? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who chose Nikko as the starting point of an approximately ten-day tour of Japan, guided by a government-licensed private tour guide from [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/). Since walking long distances was a bit difficult for one of the guests, we chartered a taxi from Tobu-Nikko Station and began the tour at the shores of Lake Chuzenji. The guests did not seem especially interested in World Heritage sites such as Toshogu Shrine, expressing that they preferred enjoying beautiful scenery over visiting shrines and temples. They own a vacation home by a beautiful lakeside themselves and even showed me photos, which were so stunning — arguably even more beautiful than the scenery of Lake Chuzenji — that I was genuinely surprised. The guests enjoyed lunch at a lakeside hotel and took in the natural beauty of Kegon Falls and Kanmangafuchi Abyss.

    Can You Do a Private One-Day Tokyo Highlights Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private one-day Tokyo highlights tour for guests visiting from North America. In advance, the guests requested a plan covering Tokyo highlights, conveyor-belt sushi or a robot cafe, the Hachiko statue in Shibuya, and a 7:30 reservation at Shibuya Sky to finish the tour. At the meeting point, the guests mentioned they had a 72-hour subway pass reserved and wanted to issue it, so we issued it at the nearest station and began the tour. During the day, the guests asked one question after another with some anxiety, such as how to get to Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko and how to use the trains efficiently. Given the time constraints and the risk of giving uncertain information, I limited myself to suggesting how to use Google Maps and the option of taking a highway bus. We toured Meiji Shrine and the East Gardens smoothly. The guests were familiar with the recent remake drama SHOGUN, and one of the guests had even read the thick original novel. On the way to Takebashi Station, the temperature and humidity rose, and one of the guests appeared to be quietly enduring the heat, with a very flushed face, which worried me a little, so I checked in and had them cool off in front of the air conditioning on the subway platform. Just as we were about to exit the ticket gate at Asakusa Station, one of the guests said "The pass is gone!" and became a bit panicked. I first had them calm down, and as we checked the bags and pockets one by one, it turned out the pass had been stuck flat against the smartphone screen! Relieved, they realized they were hungry, so we first headed to a sushi restaurant (not conveyor-belt sushi, but I explained that everywhere is crowded at lunchtime, and we were seated within 10 minutes). They enjoyed the meal, including ordering via tablet. During the wait, we talked about each other's meals, and they shared things like the autumn foliage back home. After touring the main hall, the guests said they wanted to return to the hotel once after Shibuya. After confirming the entrance to Shibuya Sky, I guided them to the scramble crossing and the Hachiko statue, and we parted ways partway along the route back to the hotel. Both were more nervous about using public transportation than I had expected (which is understandable). They were desperately trying to understand what to watch for on station platforms, and the meaning of each line's logo and the displays inside the trains. They were also very warmhearted. I hope they enjoy Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko early next week!

    What Does a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a group from Europe. Since some of the guests preferred a relaxed walking pace, I made sure to include frequent rest breaks at each spot. I guided them mainly to the three spots they had requested: the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine. At the East Gardens, I showed them only the Ninomaru Garden in consideration of their energy levels. By the time we finished strolling through Meiji Shrine, there was not much time left, but since I heard they would be traveling to Hakone the next day, I took them to the Shibuya Scramble Crossing while we had the chance. They had also wished to activate their Japan Rail Pass, so I guided them to the ticket counter at JR Shibuya Station. After activating the Japan Rail Pass, I saw them off to Ginza Station and we parted ways. The extra guiding time beyond the scheduled hours was kindly provided separately as a tip.
