Title: What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came to Nikko wishing to slowly enjoy the natural and sacred atmosphere, which they felt was different from sightseeing in Tokyo, and they also wanted to obtain items unique to Nikko, such as folk crafts. For this reason, I kept the number of sightseeing spots limited, and from among the few souvenir shops available, I introduced a store where they could purchase works created by local artists, which they were delighted with. Regarding meals, because there was a strong dietary concern, I chose Western cuisine while also taking cross-contamination into account, and I was relieved that the guests understood the arrangement. They seemed to enjoy their omurice very much.

I am more than happy to take you to attractive tourism resources scattered in Nikko. I will prepare for your trip enough to satisfy your requests and provide you with the memorable tour. When I was a company employee, I lived abroad for 5 years in Los Angeles, 11 and a half years in Washington D.C. and 2 and half years in Brussels. Despite 19 year long stay abroad, I remain charmed by Japanese things, such as culture, custom, spirit, martial art etc. I am glad if I can be of help you understand Japan as well as Nikko through my guide. I am interested in Japanese martial arts: I own the third grade in Japanese archery, known as Kyudo and I have passed a certification examination (1st grade) for Sumo wrestling conducted by the Japanese Sumo Promoting Association.

Title: What Is a Private Guided Day Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from the Middle East who were traveling around Japan by rented minivan. During our prior discussions, they had requested places that were not too crowded, but since they had arrived in Kanazawa late in the previous evening and had not been able to visit anywhere, and because Kanazawa is not so crowded just after the Golden Week holidays, we decided to visit the main sightseeing spots as planned. Since some of the guests were not very comfortable with English, part of the tour was interpreted into Hebrew along the way, which meant the pace was a little slower, but I believe they enjoyed themselves.

What Is a Private First-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa and Asakusabashi The guests were visitors from Oceania, and this was my guiding on their very first day in Japan. Since they had specified places, shops, and restaurants they wanted to visit, I arranged the itinerary accordingly. As I had mentioned in advance, they did not have cash on hand, so they withdrew some at a convenience store and purchased a PASMO card at the station. They took many photos at various spots. At a bead shop in Asakusabashi, they bought a large amount of beads, which they said they would use for designing a dress. As we had time to spare, we viewed the traditional houseboats in Asakusabashi and then visited a calligraphy shop, where they purchased notebook-style paper. They had made a reservation at a vegetarian restaurant, so I had intended to part ways, but they invited me to join them, so I did. The vegetarian sushi was beautiful and delicious, and it was a small but excellent restaurant. It was the first day of the Sanja Matsuri, so the crowds were even larger than usual, and we could not enter the main hall, but I think it was worthwhile that they were able to see the huge procession. They bought chopsticks and earrings as souvenirs, as well as an outlet adapter for a watch battery at an electronics store. I guided them to a washi paper-making shop they had reserved themselves, which concluded the tour. They mentioned they would also participate in an ukiyo-e woodblock printing experience on another day. There were many smiles, and they told me it was a very good tour.

Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They were very cheerful and were also well looked after by the driver, making it a very pleasant tour. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, they took photos at the Negai-no-Matsu pine and purchased torii-shaped ema plaques as souvenirs. At Kiyomizu-dera Temple, they offered their prayers and bought souvenirs, and although it was a very hot day, they enjoyed themselves energetically. They tried conveyor-belt sushi for the first time near Nijo Castle and were delighted, saying it was a lot of fun. They viewed the Ninomaru Palace and the garden at Nijo Castle before returning, then hurried to Kinkaku-ji, where they listened to the explanation for about 30 minutes. It ran a little long, but we returned to the Hotel at fifteen past and concluded the tour.

Tokyo: Watch the tuna auction & Travel to Tsukiji

    Tour Itinerary

    • 05:00 Meet at the main gate of Toyosu Market
    • 05:00-05:30 Beforehand, explanation of related information such as tuna catching methods, how the auction proceeds, collection methods, and the roles of wholesalers and intermediate wholesalers
    • 05:30-06:00 Watch the tuna auction

    • 07:15-08:00 Stroll around the Tsukiji outer market
    • 08:00 Disband at Tsukiji

What Is a Private Tokyo Tuna Auction and Sushi Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan from North America and were very interested in Japanese food culture. During the tuna auction viewing, they were amazed that the auction for a single tuna was completed in about five seconds, and were impressed, saying, "Japanese trains are always on time, and even the auction handling such large quantities of tuna is extremely organized — everything proceeds in perfect order." At the sushi breakfast following the auction, the head chef's nikiri sauce was so delicious that we asked him to brush nikiri onto the surface of every piece of sushi, allowing the guests to enjoy it without soy sauce. It was their first time eating sushi with nikiri, and they were greatly impressed by how delicious it was. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, even while saying "we're already full," they tried a variety of foods. They especially loved the rock oysters, enjoying them with big smiles.

Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour with Nijo Castle and Arashiyama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests requested to visit four locations along with lunch, so they kindly agreed to extend the tour by about one hour. Since one of the guests followed a gluten-free diet, I made a reservation in advance. The guests came from North America, and due to jet lag, one guest's blood pressure was unstable. At Nijo Castle, there was some discussion about ending the tour early, and it became possible that only part of the group would continue. However, the wish was for everyone to continue together, so we were able to proceed by using taxis for transportation and taking more frequent breaks. Since it is important not to overdo it, I let the guests know that they should tell me at any time if they were not feeling well, which seemed to put them at ease. As some of the guests were also short on sleep, we finished a little earlier at Hankyu Arashiyama Station.

Hello, my name is Mizuho Yoshikawa. Please call me Mizu and my name means rice and water in Japanese.
I’ve been a tour guide more than 200 times since the spring of 2023 in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Wakayama and Kochi. My tour is always original and new, depending on the guest’s preferences, encounters, seasons and weather.
In Kyoto, one of my tours is to climb Mt. Kurama. It is about 1 hour from the city of Kyoto by train, it is a very quiet and beautiful mountain.
In Osaka, which is called the kitchen of Japan, I am also in charge of food tour.
In Nara, in addition to the Great Budda Hall, I guide guests to the temple with a really great view and Japanese wine, sake tasting.
Every city has a unique charming point.
The motto of my guiding is ” Ichigo Ichie” Once in a lifetime or seize the day. I learn this concept that the moment will never be the same again through tea ceremonies.
I like a tea ceremony that is part of the traditional Japanese culture and embodies the spirit of “omotenashi” or hospitality. Through the tea ceremony, we can feel the spirit of “omotenashi” that has been passed down to us from ancient times.
And I like to travel abroad and domestically, and I have been to 13 overseas countries and most of the prefectures in Japan. Traveling always gives me a new perspective, which is exciting and thrilling. Nowadays, we can learn a lot from the Internet, but traveling teaches us that it is important to have direct experience. When I travel, I feel that my five senses are infinitely expanded, and through my tour, I help all guests to have the same feeling in Japan.
I was born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is next to Tokyo Prefecture in eastern Japan. When I was little, I could see Mount Fuji from my backyard. There was also a rice field nearby, and I grew up listening to the croaking of frogs. Listening to the frogs and seeing the mountains made me feel very calm.
I moved to the city of Kobe, one of the Kansai areas in western Japan, which includes Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and so on. I’m not from the Kansai area of western Japan, but I think that makes me sensitive to the differences between that area and the Kanto area, Tokyo, where I grew up.
Speaking of Kobe, you might be thinking of Kobe beef. Of course you do. There are also other sake breweries in Nada in Kobe. You can also go from Kobe city to Himeji Castle, also known as the White Egret Castle, which was the first in Japan to be listed as a World Heritage Site in 1993.
Let’s meet and enjoy Japan together!

What Is an Off-the-Beaten-Path Private Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. Since they had requested an "off the beaten path" experience in advance, I selected and guided them through places with as few foreign tourists as possible. They were very pleased with each location and told me it exceeded their expectations and was very enjoyable. As they had arrived the previous night and seemed a little tired, they wished to return to their accommodation early to rest, so I finished about 30 minutes ahead of schedule and saw them off near their accommodation.

    • 2:10 p.m. End of the tour at Hiroshima Station

What's a Private Walking Tour of Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was one visitor from Oceania. From the very beginning, the conversation flowed easily, and since this was a solo trip, we talked about many things throughout the tour, sharing stories about family, life in their home region, and friends. Since sightseeing around the city on foot involves some distance, we reconfirmed the transportation plan at the start, but the guest said they had become good at walking since coming to Japan, so we decided to explore mostly on foot. At Shukkeien Garden, the weather was fine, and the guest was very moved by the scenery and took many photos. When I offered to take photos, they were very pleased, so I made a point of taking pictures at the most scenic spots. At Hiroshima Castle, the guest was delighted by how beautiful the castle itself was, and also showed great interest in the A-bombed trees. When I guided them to the A-bombed eucalyptus tree, they took many photos. At the Peace Park, there were many students on peace-study and school excursions, and it was crowded, but seeing this, the guest said it was truly wonderful that children come here to learn about their own country's history. They shared that although they had watched documentaries and read books about Hiroshima before, actually coming and seeing and learning here in person had a far greater impact than they had imagined. Finally, they also enjoyed the okonomiyaki we had for lunch, and since they love cooking, they said they might try making it at home. They told me that today had been a truly special and wonderful day, which made me very happy.

Title: What Is a 2-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Hamarikyu, Tsukiji, and Roppongi On the morning of the second day, the first stop was Hamarikyu Gardens, where the guests enjoyed a matcha experience at the Nakajima teahouse. When I asked at the teahouse entrance whether they might be interested, at first one of the guests answered without hesitation, "No, not really needed," and we walked on about ten meters. However, having reconsidered, one of the guests said, "Actually, trying authentic matcha might be nice," and personally invited the group to turn back. They were not able to sit in the formal seiza position, but they took off their shoes, sat on the red carpet, and savored the matcha with great curiosity. They seemed to enjoy it very much. The guests were moved by the beauty of the garden and took photos of the various scenery. I also helped take photos of the guests with the scenery in the background. Although one of the guests does not eat raw fish, we visited Tsukiji Market, which had been included in the itinerary out of interest. In the end no sushi was eaten there, but the guests enjoyed the atmosphere, including sampling some sweets. For lunch, we moved to Roppongi and ate together at a free seating area with food purchased from a supermarket in Tokyo Midtown Roppongi. After the light meal break, although no shopping was done, when I introduced a shop on the third floor handling Japanese crafts and goods, the guests looked at them with great interest. I heard that a family member of one of the guests had once collected similar items during a trip to Japan in the past. To keep an efficient route today, we entered Zojoji Temple from the Tokyo Tower side, then made our way to Daimon Station and boarded the Oedo Line. As with the previous day, we parted inside the Oedo Line upon arriving at Roppongi Station.

What Is a Private Off-the-Beaten-Path Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came to Japan from Europe and were traveling around Japan for about a month. They requested places that tourists rarely visit, so we toured Kawai Shrine, Kamishichiken, Mikane Shrine, and other spots. It was the day before the Aoi Matsuri, and a pre-festival ceremony was being held at Shimogamo Shrine, where Kawai Shrine is located, so it was wonderful to be able to see something so special. It was a very hot day, with the temperature rising to about 28 degrees, so we took a short break in Kamishichiken. For lunch, they ordered a lunch set at a casual local eatery near Mikane Shrine. Finally, at Nishiki Market and Teramachi shopping street, they purchased a cooking knife and nail clippers. They said that Japanese nail clippers are the finest in the world. After the shopping, since they had walked a long distance in the heat, I took them back to the Hotel a little early to end the tour. The photo was taken at Nishiki Market.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.
