What's a Private Day Tour of Shibamata and Odaiba in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests joined a private Tokyo tour from North America. Their advance request was to see both the historic and the modern sides of Tokyo, so we visited Shibamata and Odaiba as they wished. It was an unfortunate day with cold rain from the morning, but Shibamata was quiet, which actually created a lovely atmosphere — the garden inside the sculpture gallery at Taishakuten Temple looked especially beautiful glistening with rain. For lunch, the guests tried soba noodles for the first time at a soba restaurant with an old-fashioned atmosphere, and they were very pleased. Unfortunately, Odaiba was foggy with strong wind and rain, so after discussing it we looked around briefly. At the end, based on what one of the guests had mentioned, I guided them to a folk craft shop that seemed to suit their tastes, then saw them off at their hotel, where we parted ways.

Can You Do a Rainy-Day Private Tour of Nikko and Toshogu Shrine? A Licensed Guide's Report It rained all day, which made the weather unsuitable for sightseeing. The guests were a young group visiting Japan. As they were flying home the following day, they participated with almost no Japanese cash on hand. They had mistakenly believed that the tour included everything, such as meal costs and the admission fee to Toshogu Shrine. Since they had no money even for lunch, they quickly withdrew cash from an ATM at a post office, but it seems they only withdrew about 20 euros' worth. This was not enough to cover the admission fee to Toshogu Shrine either, and they said it was fine not to go in. However, coming all the way to Nikko without visiting Toshogu would be meaningless, so I paid the admission for both of them on their behalf. I only had about 5,000 yen in cash myself, which is something I need to reflect on. I checked whether they had money for the bus fare back, and they said they were fine, but neither the restaurants nor Toshogu Shrine accepted credit cards, which was inconvenient. One of the guests commented that Toshogu is the most gorgeous shrine in the world, and I was glad they were able to visit it. A Private Day Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima: What Does a Rainy-Day Itinerary Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America, some of whom were returning to Hiroshima. It had been raining since the morning, but since the weather forecast and rain cloud radar suggested the rain would ease off in the afternoon, I changed the day's plan on the spot. In order to move the Miyajima visit to the afternoon, I cancelled the World Heritage Sea Route reservation by phone and was able to book a new departure, so we visited the Peace Memorial Museum first. On Miyajima, the guests preferred street food over a sit-down restaurant meal, and thanks to the change in the World Heritage Sea Route booking, they were able to enjoy strolling and eating comfortably without needing umbrellas. Lately, the Omotesando shopping street somehow does not use its retractable arcade roof even when it is hot or raining — a roof would be welcome. The guests enjoyed Hiroshima specialties such as nigiri-ten, gansu fritters, fried momiji manju, Hiroshima lemon liquor, and grilled oysters, and they also made a nice souvenir by having chopsticks engraved with their names. Since they said they would eat okonomiyaki at Hiroshima Station before heading back, I guided them to a row of okonomiyaki restaurants inside the station building and ended the tour.

Title: What Is a Private Cruise Excursion in Himeji Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Himeji Castle, Engyoji Temple, and Koko-en Garden The guests were passengers from a cruise ship. The ship had originally been scheduled to call at another port before Himeji but the itinerary was changed so that it stopped at Himeji Port instead. I was able to confirm that the ship would depart from Himeji Port at 10:00 pm that night. The cruise ship terminal at Himeji Port is still under construction, and when I inquired with the Himeji Port Management Office under the jurisdiction of Hyogo Prefecture, I learned that construction had made almost no progress since February of the fiscal year, and that public transportation access was still limited to taxis or private cars only. As a result, we planned to meet by shuttle bus at the dedicated group bus stop at the south exit of JR Himeji Station. However, early that morning I received a message saying that taking the first shuttle bus would make the tour start too late, so the guests would come to the station by taxi, and we arranged to meet at the taxi drop-off area at the south exit of JR Himeji Station. The roads were apparently congested, and they arrived just before 9:00, so we were able to head to Himeji Castle almost as planned, with me explaining features such as the positions of the triple moats along the way. In September, the Karamete gate side, which is normally closed to the public, was specially opened, so we started from the Nishinomaru. The guests enjoyed taking photos from the spectacular viewpoints here and exploring the maze-like route up to the keep. Inside the keep, they seemed interested in the structure featuring the great central pillars and the defensive features within the building. At Engyoji Temple on Mount Shosha, they were delighted by the beauty of the Maniden hall built on a slope, the three halls, and the Honda family mausoleum, saying it was exciting to see a place they recognized from a film scene. At Koko-en Garden, they seemed very fond of the spots viewed from the bridge in the residence garden — the maple valley side and the pond side — as well as the tranquil pond, the nishikigoi carp, and more. After Himeji Castle, I asked what they would like to do for lunch, but they preferred to prioritize sightseeing over eating first. On the way back from Koko-en to the station, I had been thinking of a recommended place to eat, but since it was now the midday break time, I suggested conveyor-belt sushi, which they found interesting, so I introduced them to a restaurant on the west end of the second building of the station complex facing the station building. As we parted, I suggested that for the next day's sightseeing they could take the Shinkansen from Shin-Kobe to visit the seaside area such as Meriken Park, or go to see the thousand torii gates at Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from North America who arrived at Himeji aboard a cruise ship. Since Mount Shosha was a new destination for me, I visited it in advance two days before the tour to prepare. It seemed to be the first time a cruise ship had docked at Himeji Port, and on both the day before and the day of the tour a large number of international visitors came to Mount Shosha. Even the staff at the ropeway company were surprised by the crowds. At the summit of Mount Shosha stands Engyoji Temple, which is known as the "Mount Hiei of the West." As the name suggests, it features many massive wooden structures such as the Maniden Hall, the Great Lecture Hall, the dining hall, and the Jogyodo Hall, all of which were truly spectacular. For lunch, we had a quick meal at a light dining facility within the grounds of Engyoji Temple. The view from the ropeway did not have much impact, so unfortunately it felt difficult to promote as a highlight of the tour. In the latter half of the day, I guided the guests through Himeji Castle.

What Does a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, and Nijo Castle The guests were a group visiting from North America. Since they were staying at a hotel in Osaka, we arranged to meet at Kyoto Station. The course was the classic itinerary of Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, and Nijo Castle. What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, one visiting Japan for the first time and the other for the second time, and they were very kind and wonderful people. One of them had been studying Japanese for two years and had a strong interest in the language. Hiroshima Castle was the first Japanese castle for one of the guests, who enjoyed the exhibits such as the swords, while the other had fun trying on a samurai helmet. Both of the guests visited the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Park very attentively, and also viewed the Peace Memorial Museum, and I was grateful to be able to firmly share the importance of peace with them. After such a moving and heartfelt experience, I was relieved that they could relax on Miyajima. Both of the guests love animals, and they were very delighted, saying that the deer on Miyajima were gentle and cute, unlike the deer that come onto their large property at home. Photography is a hobby of theirs, and they enjoyed taking many photos. I believe they took many professional-quality pictures. One of the guests said that they would like to visit Japan again in the near future, perhaps when the other studies abroad in Japan.
