    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from Fushimi Inari to Arashiyama Body: I guided a group visiting from North America on a private one-day Kyoto tour. It was their first time in Japan, and they had arrived in Kyoto from Tokyo the day before, so they were not very familiar with Kyoto. They were interested in Japanese culture and history and listened attentively to my explanations. They viewed Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkaku-ji with great interest, and at Arashiyama they relaxed while gazing at the Katsura River from the Togetsukyo Bridge. However, the temperature in Kyoto that day was extremely high, and since it was an 8-hour tour, the guests seemed tired. After Kinkaku-ji, we had planned to stroll around the Gion area before dropping them off at the Hotel, but as one of the guests appeared tired and wished to rest at the Hotel, we ended the tour at around 15:00.

    What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Mount Fuji, Lake Ashi, and Owakudani The guests were on the final leg of a longer trip through Japan, spending three days at their last destination, with this being the first of those days. Since the weather was not expected to be favorable over the next couple of days, I really wanted to make sure they could see Mount Fuji. Fortunately, the upper half of the mountain revealed itself, and they took many photos. The scenery at Owakudani seemed to leave a strong impression. They mentioned that Lake Ashi resembled a lake near their home, and the fresh greenery was truly beautiful. They had not been familiar with the marquetry (yosegi-zaiku) woodwork at the local shop, but they enjoyed the presentation and purchased a puzzle box. They thanked me for guiding them to such a special place. Thinking that touring some art museums over the next two days might be enjoyable, I introduced the Hakone Open-Air Museum, the Pola Museum of Art, and the Hakone Museum of Glass. (The Okada Museum would also be good, but it is closed until the 30th.)

    Title: What Is a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Owakudani, Lake Ashi, and Hakone Shrine The guests were visitors from North America. They had arrived in Japan in May and had already toured several areas, with Hakone being their final destination. Their wish was to spend the day at a relaxed pace. Since the shuttle car from their accommodation could not reach Gora Station, we walked about ten minutes up a steep slope to reach the station, which was quite demanding. As it was still before ten in the morning, there were no crowds, and we boarded the cable car and ropeway smoothly. They were moved by the magnificent views from the ropeway. When the summit of Mount Fuji became visible from Owakudani, they were delighted and took many photos. At Owakudani they purchased the famous black eggs. Afterward, we descended by ropeway to Togendai and enjoyed a pirate ship cruise. The weather was fine, and the fresh greenery around the lake was beautiful. After arriving at Moto-Hakone Port, we had a soba lunch at a soba restaurant. Since it was still before noon, we were able to enter without waiting. At Hakone Shrine, they were amazed by the size of the cedar forest. They were able to experience a solemnity different from the temples and shrines of Kyoto and Nara. They were already well acquainted with the torii gate, ema plaques, and komainu, so no explanation was needed. Because the itinerary progressed earlier than originally planned, I suggested visiting Onshi Park before heading to the Hakone Open-Air Museum, but as they did not wish to walk any further, we took a bus to the Hakone Open-Air Museum. We parted ways at the entrance of the Hakone Open-Air Museum.

    What Is an 8-Hour Private Tokyo Cruise-Port Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from Europe, arriving on a cruise from Asia, with only this single day available in Tokyo. Because it was an enormous ship and everyone needed to clear immigration, disembarkation took a long time, and the tour started 40 minutes late. Since this was an 8-hour tour that included bringing the guests back to the ship at the end, I adjusted the time spent at each location so that we could return on schedule. Only one of the guests had Mobile Suica, and the other tried to download it but was unable to, so we attempted to buy a card at the station. However, there was a very long line of disembarking passengers, so I lent them a spare PASMO I had and settled the balance at the end. At Tsukiji, they did not eat fish but wanted to see it, and purchased a magnet for their collection. They were lovely, but seemed somewhat tired and did not listen very intently to explanations, appearing to prefer touring the famous spots and taking photos. For lunch they wanted meat, so I took them to a teppanyaki restaurant serving lunch, and they were very satisfied. At Meiji Shrine they wanted ice cream, so we took a break at a café. I had heard it was a special occasion, so I bought a handkerchief at the Meiji Shrine souvenir shop as a gift. Since I sometimes hear complaints that Japanese restrooms do not have paper towels or hand dryers, I explained that Japanese people carry handkerchiefs. We said goodbye with a hug at the end.

    Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Tsukiji and Asakusa in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America, having arrived the previous evening. Their accommodation was just across Sotobori-dori from Tokyo Dome, so it seemed to host many domestic visitors coming to watch games at the dome in addition to inbound travelers. This trip was a celebration, and they planned to stay for about a week, including one day trip to Kyoto. At Tsukiji, just after entering Monzeki-dori, the guests eagerly went for candied strawberries and strawberry daifuku, and afterward enjoyed sashimi such as shrimp and scallops. Since there were things they did not get to try today, like oysters, they said they would return the following day. At Asakusa, they enjoyed soft serve ice cream topped with strawberries. Everyone was very enthusiastic about taking photos, so I guided them to as many photogenic spots as possible. For the days ahead, I gave them a route map and a Tokyo Travel Guide. I obtained a Spanish-language version in Ginza to go along with the English one, and I explained the main sightseeing spots to them.

    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Koishikawa Korakuen, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America, including two very young children. The guests arrived at Narita Airport by air three days earlier and took a taxi to their Hotel. They planned to stay in Japan for a number of days. Two days before, they had strolled around the Ueno and Asakusa areas, and the previous day they took a day trip to Kamakura. Starting the next day, they planned to spend two days at Tokyo Disneyland. They planned to stay only in the Tokyo area rather than traveling to the Kansai region, before returning home by air. It was a tour under cloudy and rather chilly weather. The tour was conducted while pushing a stroller for one of the young children. First, we visited Koishikawa Korakuen. I explained about the Edo period and the origins and history of Koishikawa Korakuen. One of the guests remarked, "The Japanese garden is wonderful. I would like to create one in my own home garden." We then moved to Harajuku and visited Meiji Shrine. I explained about Shinto, torii gates, Emperor Meiji, and why sake barrels are displayed, as well as why wine barrels are displayed. There were questions such as "What kind of religion is Shinto?", "How does Buddhism differ from Shinto?", and "Are there Shinto shrines overseas as well?" A wedding ceremony was taking place, and the guests eagerly took photographs. We took a break at Forest Terrace Meiji Jingu. We also strolled along Takeshita Street. We then moved to Shibuya. After that, we looked at Shibuya Scramble Square and crossed the famous scramble crossing on foot. There were questions such as "Why are so many people gathering here?", "About how many people cross at once?", and "Why did it become so famous?" We also took photographs in front of the Hachiko statue. The guests commented that the streets were clean and free of litter, and asked why there were no trash bins on the streets. I saw them off at Ueno Station, where the tour concluded.

    Guide work started in July 2022. A guide focused on FIT compliance.

    Destinations: Various places in Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura and Nikko
    As a recent group travel record, in October 2023, we have a track record of guiding a group of 33 people from Singapore to Narita Airport transfer plus sightseeing in Tokyo.
    Self-introduction:
    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Highlights Tour Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. In the morning, they had just disembarked from a cruise ship and arrived at their hotel. Since it was their first time in Tokyo, we covered the highlights of Asakusa, Shibuya, Meiji Shrine, and Harajuku. As their hotel was in Ginza, we looked at the basement food floor of a department store and I also introduced shops such as a stationery store and UNIQLO. Asakusa was crowded as usual, but the guests enjoyed themselves, trying treats like candied strawberries. Since they wanted a light lunch, we bought sandwiches at the food hall in Shibuya, which were well received. We toured Meiji Shrine and Takeshita Street, and then I saw them off at their hotel in Ginza.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama and Nijo Castle The guests were a group visiting from North America. I had heard some requested destinations in advance, but it turned out these were not the wishes of the whole group, so we decided to first go to Arashiyama and choose the rest along the way. While having a light meal in Arashiyama, I explained the next possible destinations and their access, and we decided on Nijo Castle, which was on the way back to the Hotel. Some of the guests were in high spirits, taking photos everywhere, while others seemed a bit tired. On this day the temperature in Kyoto reached 30 degrees and the sunshine was strong, so after discussing among themselves, the guests decided to return to the Hotel to rest and set out again in the evening. It was a warm, close group, and everyone seemed happy simply to be together. I accompanied them back to the Hotel and said goodbye.

    Can You Do a Private Day Tour of Ueno, Akihabara, and Ginza in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The day before the tour, the guests realized that they had mistaken the meeting-point hotel (they had assumed it was one property in Ginza, but it was actually another property in Toranomon), which they discovered only after trying to check in at the Ginza location. However, since I read that email after 3:00 p.m., I was unable to make the change in the system. We met on time at the Hotel in Toranomon and took the subway to Ueno Park. Some of the guests had already visited Japan many times and had been to Asakusa, Tsukiji, and Ueno before, but as this was a first visit to Ueno for part of the group, we went there, and when I explained the history of the park, they listened very attentively. At Ueno Toshogu Shrine, they purchased good-luck charms in the number needed for everyone, including family members waiting at home. In Akihabara, we went inside a large electronics store, and they were somewhat amazed at its vast size. In Ginza, they did some shopping at a traditional stationery and incense shop, and at the basement floor of a department store they purchased matcha that had been requested by a family member waiting at home. After introducing the impressive food halls of the department store basement, we went to a stationery store. We were about 15 minutes ahead of schedule, but at the guests' own request (they wanted to have lunch and go shopping on their own), we parted ways at the stationery store.

    What Is a Private Family Walking Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. We spent time in the lobby of the Hotel until the 10:15 departure of the Hotel's shuttle bus, which was located a little away from Kanazawa Station, talking about nearby dining spots and their travels in Japan so far. Following the itinerary requested through a local travel agency (Higashi Chaya District, Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle, and Nagamachi), I guided the tour while pointing out key locations so that the guests could explore these areas on their own in the afternoon as needed. However, things did not go exactly as planned, and along the way we took breaks such as an ice cream stop. In the end, I showed them around Gyokusen'inmaru Garden and the Nagamachi samurai district area to conclude the tour, and I believe the guests enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
