    What's a Private Day Tour of Northwest Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, and Arashiyama The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America, and this was the second day of their tour (please refer to the previous report). Unfortunately, one member of the group had not recovered and was unable to join on this day as well. The itinerary covered northwest Kyoto (Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, and Arashiyama), and thanks to a private vehicle, we were able to enjoy a comfortable tour. The weather was cloudier than the previous day, and while it felt a little humid, it was not bothersome. This time Arashiyama was included among the destinations, and the guests seemed to fully enjoy the "green season of Japan," surrounded by the bamboo grove and fresh greenery. For lunch, I had reserved the Buddhist vegetarian cuisine restaurant directly managed by Tenryu-ji Temple, where we could savor authentic shojin cuisine at a leisurely pace. The guests praised it highly, saying, "We are not what you would call vegetarians, but the shojin cuisine is delicious." It was an enjoyable two-day tour with a wonderful group.

    What's a Full-Day Private Osaka Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a visitor from North America. Due to a busy schedule that involved arriving in Japan the previous evening and moving on to Tokyo the following day, we covered as many spots as possible in addition to the planned locations, and our step count exceeded 200,000 steps. The guest was very cheerful and loved taking photos, and had researched Osaka in detail beforehand, so it was a lively tour full of conversation from beginning to end. At Shinsekai, the guest happened to meet a family from the same background and promised to reunite in Tokyo, and in front of the Glico sign in Dotonbori, took photos together with a school trip group from Kochi. Although traveling solo, the guest spent an enjoyable day filled with smiles from start to finish.

    What Is a Private Kumano Kodo and Nachi Falls Day Tour from Shirahama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report With little traffic, we arrived at the Hotel 30 minutes early, and while I was looking around the Hotel shop, the guests came down. We greeted each other, got into the car, and set off. The guests were currently traveling in Japan. They were staying in Shirahama for several days and had also gone sightseeing the previous day. We reached Gyubadoji-guchi in one hour, and the guests bought some souvenirs at the roadside station. We then started the walk, and I gave explanations at Hashiori Pass and at the Gyubadoji statue, and after coming down from the observation deck we took a taxi toward Hongu. At Hongu Taisha, the guests remarked that the cypress-bark roof was wonderful. Since it was hotter than expected, we ate our boxed lunches on a bench at the World Heritage Center, and afterward the guests enjoyed the walk at Oyunohara. We took a taxi to Nachi. We climbed the Daimonzaka slope while taking photographs. The guests also listened intently at Seiganto-ji and Nachi Taisha. We took photos at the three-storied pagoda and headed to the waterfall. At the waterfall, the guests were moved by its grandeur. Afterward we took a taxi from the front of the waterfall toward Shirahama. On the way, we stopped at Hashigui-iwa for a restroom break, and the guests took many photographs. At this point we were about 30 minutes behind schedule, but thanks to the driver's adjustments we were able to arrive at the Hotel without much delay. We exchanged farewells and ended the tour. The guests mentioned that they would go to Osaka the next day to meet up with the rest of their group.

They planned to visit Kyoto and Osaka after sightseeing in Tokyo. At Meiji Shrine, they seemed impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere, which was very different from Shibuya. They also purchased a goshuin (shrine seal stamp) at Meiji Shrine. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with great interest to historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo Shogunate. At Senso-ji, they listened with interest to explanations about the differences between temples and shrines and about the Kaminarimon Gate, and they also purchased a goshuin at Senso-ji. In Akihabara, they showed interest in the anime shops. After shopping in Shinjuku, they said they could return to their hotel on their own, so we parted ways in Shinjuku. Since I accommodated the guests' wishes as requested, I believe they were satisfied.

    What Is a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo's Trendy Neighborhoods Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Daikanyama, Nakameguro, Shimokitazawa, and Yanesen Today I guided guests from North America who had been staying in Japan for a while. Initially, contact had been arranged through a travel agency, but since the agency had not sufficiently shared my information with the guests, we reviewed and adjusted the day's itinerary again at the hotel. Since the destinations were relatively niche areas such as Daikanyama, Nakameguro, and Shimokitazawa, I had expected the guests to have detailed preferences or knowledge in advance, but in fact these destinations had been recommended by the travel agency. Therefore, while making use of the information I had gathered beforehand, I was able to set up a flexible course that prioritized the guests' reactions and the atmosphere on site. When heading from Ueno to Daikanyama, instead of the subway, we used the Yamanote Line, which allows you to enjoy the Tokyo cityscape from the train windows, traveling via Ebisu. In Daikanyama, after visiting T-SITE centered on Tsutaya Books, we strolled through the boutique shopping area, including the surrounding residential district. Next, we visited the former Asakura Residence, and I explained the mansion culture of influential Tokyo figures from the Meiji to early Showa periods. The guests showed great interest in the atmosphere of a traditional old Japanese house, and seemed particularly impressed by the architecture and garden. After that, we walked to Nakameguro and strolled around the Meguro River. Along the way, the guests found an izakaya they liked, so we had lunch there. After lunch, we used the Tokyu Line and Inokashira Line to head to Shimokitazawa. During the complex transfer route at Shibuya Station, we also viewed the scramble crossing and the Hachiko statue, so we were able to add a quintessential Shibuya sightseeing experience as well. In Shimokitazawa, we walked around viewing distinctive shops centered on vintage clothing stores, and the guests enjoyed the atmosphere of a town where old and new cultures coexist. Since there was still time to spare for an 8-hour tour, I proposed the Yanesen area as a relatively quiet and calm area similar to Daikanyama, Nakameguro, and Shimokitazawa. From Shimokitazawa, we used the Odakyu Line and Chiyoda Line to move to Yushima, then strolled around Shinobazu Pond, Nezu Shrine, Hebi-michi (Snake Road), and Yanaka Cemetery, heading toward Nippori Station. There was still time to spare, but the guests requested to return to the hotel, saying that 8 hours was long and they were tired, so we returned to the hotel from Ueno Station and parted ways about one hour earlier than the originally scheduled end time. As a result, the itinerary came to about 7 hours of actual activity, but we were able to visit many different distinctive areas of Tokyo, including Daikanyama, Nakameguro, Shimokitazawa, and Yanesen, and I believe it turned out to be a very fulfilling and enjoyable tour.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting from Oceania on their first trip to Japan. As I have some familiarity with the region they came from, we hit it off right from the start and quickly warmed to each other. In Asakusa, they sampled matcha latte, dorayaki, ichigo daifuku, and taiyaki. Since they had seen the "Kaga Maeda Family Exhibition" at the Tokyo National Museum on Sunday, I explained the gold leaf on the altar at Senso-ji Temple and its connection to Kanazawa, serving as a nice review. At the Imperial Palace, I explained the daimyo system, including the transition from the Edo period to the Meiji Restoration and the Kaga domain. The Japanese irises were just beginning to bloom. The nori temaki was a great choice, and in addition to the lunch set, the group polished off twelve pieces à la carte. We took photos at the meoto-kusu (paired camphor trees) at Meiji Shrine, and another one all together. They plan to return to Harajuku (beyond Takeshita Street) and Shibuya for shopping. During the day and over lunch, the conversation turned to topics related to healthcare in Japan, and I explained the health insurance system, the medical fee schedule, specialists versus family doctors, and examples of a typical clinic.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Nikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. The morning was a little chilly with a light drizzle, and since one of the guests came dressed lightly, I felt I should have shared the expected temperatures for Nikko in advance. The weather in Oku-Nikko sometimes clears up unexpectedly, but today it did not improve much. Even so, we visited the three waterfalls of Oku-Nikko, and the guests enjoyed the walking paths along Yudaki Falls and Ryuzu Falls. After warming up with a soba lunch, the temperature rose a little, and we visited the highlights, Toshogu Shrine and the Sanbutsudo hall of Rinnoji Temple, before parting ways at Tobu Nikko Station.

    Two-Day Private Kyoto Tour Report: What Can a Licensed Guide Cover in Kyoto in Two Days? The guests this time were a group visiting Japan from North America on a trip, and I guided them for two consecutive days. However, one member of the group had caught a cold and spent both days resting at the Hotel. As a result, sightseeing on both days was done with the group. Prior consultations, such as considering which places to visit, were carried out with a staff member at a local travel agency. That staff member had handled many trips to Japan, and in response to the guests' wish to "cover the major highlights of Kyoto in two days," proposed the following: (1) central Kyoto to Higashiyama (Day 1: Nijo Castle, Gion, Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari), and (2) northwestern Kyoto (Day 2: Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, Arashiyama). Based on this proposal, I created a detailed itinerary, obtained the guests' approval through the staff member, and finalized it. On the first day (May), the temperature was high from the morning, with clear, summer-like weather, but with the help of a private vehicle for transportation, the guests did their best and thoroughly enjoyed the sightseeing. In particular, some of the guests had a strong interest in Japanese history, especially the era of samurai governance, so I put extra effort into the explanations at Nijo Castle. Also, given the season, as we walked through areas surrounded by fresh greenery everywhere we went, they repeatedly said, "Japan's nature is wonderful." For lunch, I had made a reservation at a Kyoto cuisine restaurant in Gion, so we were able to dine smoothly without any waiting time. Japanese food seemed to suit the guests' tastes very well. Even in the heat, they were able to enjoy a fulfilling sightseeing experience.

    What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa The guests were a group visiting from North America. They had arrived in Japan the day before and seemed to have a bit of jet lag. We first assisted with purchasing SUICA cards at Shinjuku Station, then took the JR line to Harajuku. In front of the torii gate, I explained Japanese history, the differences between shrines and temples, and the origins of Meiji Shrine, after which we passed through the torii and proceeded to the main hall, adding explanations at key points along the way, and paid our respects. After walking along Takeshita Street, we took the JR line to Shibuya Station, took photos in front of the Hachiko statue, and also took photos at the scramble crossing. We then moved by subway to Asakusa, had lunch at a ramen restaurant, and walked through the Culture Tourism Center, Kaminarimon Gate, and Nakamise, before praying at the main hall. We returned to Nishi-Shinjuku by subway, and the tour concluded at the Hotel.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. It took a little time to meet up at Kyoto Station, but we met without any trouble and headed by bus to Sanjusangendo. They were deeply moved by the 1,001 statues of the Thousand-Armed Kannon, and then we took a bus toward Kiyomizu-dera. Although it was a hot day, we climbed the slope to Kiyomizu-dera, scooped water at Otowa Waterfall, and took many photos. Since the guests were interested in culture, I explained Japanese food, kimono, and how to pray at shrines and temples while we enjoyed soft-serve ice cream and food tastings, walking along Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka, and Kodai-ji, then on to Yasaka Shrine and Gion. We had a late lunch at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, and I introduced some Japanese games. We took photos at Hanamikoji and at the Nintendo Super Mario spot, guided them through Nishiki Market, and then ended the tour.
