Kanagawa: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine & Hasedera to Kamakura Station

    Tour Itinerary

    • 9:30 Meet at hotel Departure (Explaining the return route from Minato Mirai to Kamakura)
    • 10:30 From Kamakura Station to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
    • 11:00-11:30 Visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
    • 11:40-12:10 Move to Hokokuji Temple
    • 12:20-13:00. Sightseeing at Hokokuji Temple
    • 13:00-14:00 From Hokokuji Temple to Komachi Street, including lunch (window shopping along the way)
    • 14:00-15:00 Great Buddha, Hasedera Temple sightseeing (Enoden)
    • 15:00-15:30. From Hasedera to Kamakura Station (Enoden)

Title: What's a Private Kamakura Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America, and had signed up for a Kamakura sightseeing tour before starting a cruise around various parts of Japan. When they first booked, they had requested a "Zen temple," so I asked why, but they said there was no special reason — they simply love flowers. Since Hokokuji Temple and the Great Buddha were part of their request, I focused on those, and additionally guided them to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Hasedera Temple. They had originally hoped to see cherry blossoms when they applied for the tour, but the dates were fully booked, so it ended up being this time of year. It was cold with chilly rain falling all day, but fortunately the cherry blossoms along the Dankazura approach had just begun to bloom at a perfect stage, and the guests seemed very pleased.

Thank you for your entry in this tour. Nice to meet you in this mail.
Your tour guide Kappa is my nickname. Kappa is a traditional, imaginary creature who came into being in Japan over 300 years ago. She is good at swimming, like me, for I like swimming. I would like to make our tour operated smoothly as Kappa does when she swims in the river or pond. It is my pleasure to introduce many aspects in our tour, especially cooking, for it is my hobby and I went to the professional cooking and SAKE school, respectively. If you have any questions or requests about Japanese cooking, of course our tour, I am very delighted to answer to you anytime!

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. It was their first visit to Japan. They arrived at Haneda Airport on a direct flight yesterday and took a taxi to their hotel. In the evening, they enjoyed kaiseki cuisine in Ginza. This trip to Japan is for ten days, and the day after tomorrow they will head to Kyoto and Osaka, then return to Tokyo before flying home. Tomorrow they plan to visit teamLab. They also mentioned, "We love Japanese food and want to try many different dishes during our stay in Japan." Unfortunately, the tour took place in very cold, rainy weather. First, we went to Akihabara. One of the guests is an anime fan. We browsed several shops, and in the end they bought a T-shirt as a souvenir at Don Quijote. We strolled through the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. In the rain, the cherry blossoms were on average about half in bloom. We took commemorative photos in front of several cherry trees. I explained topics such as "the history from the Edo period to the Meiji era," "the Meiji Restoration," "why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace," and "an overview of the current Imperial family." They commented, "The pine trees are beautiful," and asked questions such as "Does the Emperor of Japan hold political power?" Despite the rain, there was quite a large crowd. They said, "Today we'd like to eat sushi," so we went to a sushi restaurant in Hibiya Chanter. They mentioned, "Recently, three sushi restaurants with Japanese chefs have opened in our area as well." They added, "As expected, sushi eaten in Japan is fresh and delicious, and the price is reasonable too." After this, we moved to Harajuku. First, we went to Meiji Shrine. I explained topics such as "about the torii gate" and "about Emperor Meiji." I also explained "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." There was also a question: "How many Christians are there in Japan?" In the rain, we came across a wedding procession and took photos. We moved to Shibuya. Despite the rain, there was a large crowd. I explained "the history of Shibuya." We walked across the scramble crossing at Shibuya Scramble Square and took commemorative photos in front of the Hachiko statue. They asked questions such as "Why are there so many people at the scramble crossing?" and "Are they all local people?" They commented and asked, "The people passing by are so quiet and polite," and "There is no trash on the streets." They also commented, "The trains and subways are clean and quiet," and "The public restrooms are well-equipped." I saw them off at Shimbashi Station, and we parted ways.

    FY2022 results: 17 cases, FY2023 results: 97
Destinations: Various places in Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura and Nikko
As a recent group travel record, in October 2023, we have a track record of guiding a group of 33 people from Singapore to Narita Airport transfer plus sightseeing in Tokyo.
    Self-introduction:
In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
I am a certified CPA in the United States.
In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

Title: What's a Private Kanazawa Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kenrokuen and the Higashi Chaya District I guided a group visiting from North America around Kanazawa. They were interested in the traditional buildings of the samurai residences. At Kenrokuen Garden, we enjoyed the cherry blossoms that had just begun to bloom and the plum blossoms in full bloom. For lunch, they enjoyed local dishes such as jibuni soba, a regional specialty. We viewed Kanazawa Castle only from the outside, but they still took an interest in its traditional architecture. In the Higashi Chaya District, I showed them the elegant rooms of the historic teahouse Shima. During a gold leaf application experience, they enjoyed applying gold leaf to a pair of chopsticks. The guests on this occasion loved traveling and had a strong interest in Japanese traditional culture, cuisine, and gardens.

I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures. I have also guided foreign people around Ishikawa Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, and Fukui Prefecture as an international activity of an English circle. I was a volunteer interpreter at the training camp for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021.

Hokuriku region has a lot of sightseeing spots as follows, beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, traditional crafts like Kaga Yuzen dyeing, Takaoka copperware, and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism such as Kurobe dam and industrial tourism.

I also work as a translator. I translated the Japanese firefly squid tourism pamphlet into English in 2020.

Title: What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Akihabara, and Asakusa The guests were visitors from North America and were very cheerful and polite people. Since they were returning home from Narita on an evening flight that day, we decided to purchase Narita Express tickets in advance. I had never bought them at Shinagawa before and was unsure where and how to do so, but the guests waited patiently without minding at all. After that, we went to Tsukiji and walked around the outer market. Some of the guests loved sushi, but since raw fish did not suit everyone, we skipped a sushi lunch. Next, as some of the guests were fans of anime, I took them to the Radio Kaikan in Akihabara, where they were thrilled and looked around intently, purchasing figures as well. Finally, we visited Asakusa, and they were surprised by how many international visitors there were. We had ramen in Asakusa, and since it was cold, they were grateful and enjoyed eating it very much.

What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shibuya, and Harajuku The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. At Tsukiji, they enjoyed strawberry candy, wagyu beef, and fatty tuna (otoro) sushi, and were delighted, saying it was incomparable to what they eat back home. In Asakusa, in addition to Senso-ji Temple, they viewed the cherry blossoms at Sumida Park before heading to a restaurant. They enjoyed okonomiyaki, monjayaki, teppanyaki, and beer, saying they could never have found a place like this on their own. We passed through Kappabashi and took the Ginza Line to Shibuya. Besides the Shibuya crossing, since they liked Pokémon, we also stopped by the Pokémon Center, and then went on to Harajuku. They said Meiji Jingu Shrine was beautiful. After that, I took them to Takeshita Street, and since they wanted to explore on their own from there, we ended the tour. I had been worried about the rain, but it cleared up right around 10:00, making it a very pleasant day.

Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like from Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were on a trip to Japan from Europe. As usual, I prepared a signed celebration board for them. We took a commemorative photo in front of the Anzan Sugi (safe-childbirth cedar) at Hakone Shrine. Since they planned to sightsee in Hakone today and tomorrow, and today was rainy with heavy fog, I proposed and discussed an itinerary that saved the ropeway and pirate ship for tomorrow, which they approved, and we set off. Even so, the red torii gate at Hakone Shrine involved about a 30-minute wait in line. The guests were interested in the karakuri puzzle boxes at a local shop, enjoyed the demonstration, and purchased some souvenirs. We took a fun commemorative photo with the shop staff. As the guests love Japanese food, we had warm soba served with sushi for lunch. At the Hakone Open-Air Museum, there were many works by the sculptor Henry Moore, which they greatly enjoyed. On the way back, I made a simple sketch of tomorrow's route as a reference and explained it to them.

Title: What's a Private Kyoto and Nara Tour Like with a Hotel Pickup? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from the Middle East, originally from the Middle East. They had visited Tokyo before, but this was their first time sightseeing in Kyoto and Nara. Since they were not confident about getting to Kyoto Station on their own, they requested a pickup at their hotel. The group got along very well, and some of the guests were very interested in gashapon capsule toys, stopping to buy them each time they spotted a machine in Nara. I guided them to "Nigiwai no Ie" and the "Karakuri Omocha Kan" (mechanical toy museum), and as expected, some of the guests had a wonderful time playing with the toys, while the others rested in the meantime. After arriving at Kyoto Station, the group decided to return by taxi as they were tired, so I directed them to the taxi stand and the tour concluded. Nara today had many visitors from Asia. The cherry blossoms were more than half in bloom. The photos were taken at Nara Park.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

What's a Private Cruise Port Day Tour of Kobe Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group of friends and family visiting Kobe by cruise ship from North America. Three cruise ships were docked in Kobe today, making the port lively. The tour itinerary had been arranged in advance through prior discussion, but the guests added requests to "visit Harborland" and to "eat Kobe beef," so I made slight adjustments to accommodate them. As a result, from Kobe Port Terminal we traveled by car to the Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum, Kobe Nunobiki Herb Garden, the Kitano Ijinkan foreign residences district, Sorakuen Garden, and Harborland. After that, at the Chang'an Gate of Nankinmachi (Chinatown), I pointed out the shuttle bus back to Kobe Port Terminal, then took them to a Kobe beef restaurant in the Motomachi shopping arcade to conclude the tour. Today there were many tourists at every location, and we waited for a while at the Nunobiki Herb Garden ropeway station, but the guests enjoyed the tour at every place we visited.

What Is a Private Kurama, Kibune, and Arashiyama Day Tour in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a first-time visitor to Japan from Europe. The guest seemed to enjoy traveling alone, and this trip was to be a stay of about two weeks. The visit from Kurama to Kibune was made by request, and when I asked why the guest wanted to go there, the answer was "I like nature." Being energetic, the guest walked quickly, which was a bit challenging for me, but I managed to complete the entire route. Since we progressed faster than planned, after finishing at Daikaku-ji Temple as requested, we had some time left, so I guided the guest around the Bamboo Grove path. When I saw the guest off at the Hotel, I was asked to take a photo together, which I happily agreed to. I believe the guest was satisfied.

Private Tokyo Tour Report: What Can You See in One Day from Odaiba to Akihabara with a Licensed Guide? It was raining heavily in the morning, but the rain stopped when we arrived at Odaiba, which was lucky. I had planned the itinerary in advance based on the guests' wishes. One of the guests had been to Tokyo before but had not done any sightseeing, so this was a first visit to Japan for sightseeing purposes. Visiting an animal cafe, Akihabara, and the Imperial Palace were essential requests. Odaiba by the Yurikamome line is always popular with visitors, so I included it in the itinerary, and as expected it was well received. The many tulips and cherry blossoms near the Gundam statue were beautiful, and the guests were delighted. For the animal cafe, I had prepared a list of options, and I recommended a pig cafe as the best choice. It was a very unique experience and the guests were very pleased. It seems they appreciated that the tour was not just the usual standard course.
