    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour with a Licensed Guide Like? A Guide's Report on Nijo Castle and Arashiyama Monkey Park The guests had already visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, Sanjusangendo, Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, and the Sagano Bamboo Grove on a group bus tour the previous day.     Title: What Is a Private Family Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Hamarikyu, Asakusa, and Akihabara The guests were a group from North America whom I guided through Tokyo. Once again, the heat and humidity were a concern today, but we managed to get through the day safely with proper hydration, meals, and rest breaks. At Tsukiji, the guests enjoyed ice cream and satsuma-age (fried fish cake), and were delighted to see the fish market area, which they had not been able to find on their own. At Hamarikyu, at the guests' request, we first rested and had ice cream at the arbor, walked in the shade as much as possible, and enjoyed matcha and sweets at the Nakajima teahouse. Since the guests felt they could walk a bit more, we went around the duck hunting grounds and saw the 300-year-old pine tree. As the guests wished to buy a handheld fan, we stopped by a variety store in Shiodome along the way and purchased one together with batteries. In Asakusa, I asked what they would like for lunch, and they chose conveyor-belt sushi, where some of the guests had tuna rolls while others mainly enjoyed cucumber rolls, inari sushi, and egg. In Akihabara, one of the guests was a self-described computer and game enthusiast, so after visiting a few game shops, we went to the Radio Kaikan building so the guests could look at figures and other items. We searched for a cable for one of the guests' smartwatch; at one electronics store they were told the Shinjuku and Shibuya branches might have it, and at another electronics store they were told the manufacturer now sells it online only, which I relayed to the guests. I was impressed that one of the guests had studied Japanese for two years in preparation for this trip and had learned conversational phrases useful for traveling. Although it was before the scheduled end time, the guests said they were tired and wished to head back to the hotel, so we ended the tour at JR Akihabara Station with kind words of thanks.

The idea is that if the stone feels lighter than you expected, your wish will come true, and the guests found this fascinating and tried it eagerly. The rain began to ease a little. The third stop was Tenryu-ji Temple, the Sagano Bamboo Grove, and Arashiyama Park. The rain stopped and it turned into an enjoyable hike. The final stop was Kinkaku-ji Temple. The guests were especially moved by the golden shimmer of the Golden Pavilion. They also purchased many items at the souvenir shops. It was a wonderful group who got along very well.

It turned out to be the right choice, though this was my first time taking guests to a burger restaurant. Since one of the guests was wearing a Super Mario T-shirt, I mentioned there was a Nintendo shop in Shibuya, and they were delighted to go and browse the merchandise. As I was told it "would take quite a while," the rest of us split off to explore inside Parco and buy drinks at a nearby convenience store. Also, regarding the golden monument in Asakusa, when I mentioned it resembles someone's hairstyle, the immediate smiling reply was "Trump" — so everyone seems to think the same thing. It was cloudy today with little direct sunlight, and we spent a lot of time in cool spots such as the shade at Meiji Shrine and CyberSpace in Shibuya, but perhaps due to the high humidity, one of the guests became quite tired in Asakusa and had a slight leg cramp. Dinner was scheduled at an izakaya in Shimbashi from 17:00, and since they wanted to rest at a cafe near Tokyo Station, I gave a brief introduction to the Tokyo Station building and the location of the Imperial Palace (which they planned to visit the next day) before we parted ways. As there will be more opportunities to drink from plastic bottles going forward, and since trash bins are scarce, I felt it was a day that highlighted the difficulty of how to dispose of them.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report Today I guided a group visiting from North America. They were spending their trip traveling to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and other destinations. By the time we arrived in Arashiyama, it was pouring rain and impossible to walk around comfortably, so we first viewed the garden from inside Tenryu-ji Temple. After that, the rain let up, so we strolled through the bamboo grove from the garden. Thanks to the rain there were few people, and the green of the bamboo grove was very beautiful. At the next stop, Kinkaku-ji, there was only occasional light rain, and with few visitors we were able to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The guests really enjoyed the tonkatsu at Katsukura for lunch and also had dessert. We took a short walk around the Gion Tatsumi Bridge area, drove through Hanamikoji Street, and went to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. The rain had stopped and there were more people, but I believe the guests enjoyed it.

    Title: What Can You See on a One-Day Private Tour of Tokyo's Main Highlights? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. Their main trip was elsewhere in Asia for about a week, and on the way back they stopped in Japan, staying only in Tokyo for a few days. They had arrived at Narita Airport in the evening and taken a taxi to their Hotel. The previous day they had taken a day trip to Mount Fuji and Hakone, and they planned to fly home from Narita Airport the next morning. They expressed a wish to visit only the main spots in Tokyo. It was a hot and humid day. From Akasaka Station, we first headed to Asakusa. Despite the early hour, it was as crowded as ever, with many foreign tour groups and school excursion students in particular. We started in front of the Kaminarimon Gate. I explained "Sensoji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo," "what the five-story pagoda is for," "what Buddhism is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." We took commemorative photos in front of the Kaminarimon Gate and strolled leisurely through the Nakamise shopping street. There were questions such as "What are the main religions in Japan?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", and "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people follow?" We moved on to Akihabara, and I explained "how the Akihabara electric town came to be." One of the guests was especially a fan of a popular character franchise. After this, at their request, we went to Tokyo Tower. We went up to the Main Deck and walked around it slowly. I explained "the history of Edo and Tokyo." We were able to see Mount Fuji (though it had no snow cap). One guest commented, "I really understand now that Tokyo is a vast, spread-out city, just like where we live." We bought ice cream at the shop. We moved to Harajuku and visited Meiji Shrine. I explained "about Shinto," "about the torii gate," "about Emperor Meiji," and "why the wine barrels are displayed." There were questions such as "What kind of teaching is Shinto?", "When did Shinto originate?", "How many shrines are there in Japan?", and "What is the difference between Buddhism and Shinto?" At the guests' request, we also strolled along Takeshita Street and bought character goods souvenirs. Then we went to Shibuya. We crossed the Scramble Crossing on foot and took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. We also went to Shibuya Parco and the very crowded Pokemon Center, where we managed to buy some trading cards. There were also comments and questions such as "I felt Tokyo was extremely safe," "Why are there no trash cans on the streets?", and "The Tokyo subway is very well made, completely different from where we live." I saw the guests off at Akasaka Station, where we parted ways.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.

    Title: What Can You See in Tokyo in One Day? A Licensed Guide's Private Tour Report (Imperial Palace, Asakusa, Akihabara, Shibuya) The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. This was a short visit of only a few days. Before coming to Japan, they had traveled through Asia over an extended period, mainly for scuba diving, and stopped in Japan on their way back. They had arrived at Haneda Airport on a direct flight the previous day, then taken a taxi to their accommodation in Shibuya, a B&B. They said, "We'd like to see only the major spots in Tokyo," and also, "We want to learn how to use the subway and trains before we leave." It was a hot and humid day under fine weather. We met at a hotel near Tokyo Station, walked along Gyoko-dori Avenue to the Imperial Palace, and then strolled through the Imperial Palace East Gardens. One of the guests remarked, "It's a shame we can't see the cherry blossoms. When is the best time for them?" I explained about "the history of Edo and Tokyo," "the history from the Edo period to the Meiji era," "the Meiji Restoration," "why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace," and "why the capital moved from Kyoto to Tokyo." There were questions such as "What happened to the shogun and samurai after the Meiji Restoration?" and "Does the current Emperor of Japan hold political power?" The guests also commented, "It's wonderful that there is such a large, green space right in the center of the city." We moved on to Asakusa, starting from the Kaminarimon Gate. I explained about "Senso-ji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo," "what the five-story pagoda is for," "what Buddhism is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." We took commemorative photos in front of the Kaminarimon Gate and slowly strolled through the Nakamise shopping street. There were questions such as "What is the main religion of Japanese people?" The guests commented, "It's amazing that there's no litter on the streets," and "It was our first time on the subway, but it was very comfortable and convenient." We parted ways at Shibuya Station.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Walking Tour Like for Families? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. As the group included younger members, I guided them with attention to hydration and fatigue, while making an effort to keep everyone engaged and entertained. Regarding the requested destinations, a request came shortly beforehand for Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-ji, the Arashiyama bamboo grove, and Nishiki Market, so I planned the itinerary the day before. Since the group was staying in Osaka, we met at Kyoto Station and first went to Fushimi Inari. I taught the group about what the foxes hold in their mouths and asked them to look at what was being held at each spot, and they earnestly reported back each time, which made me happy. For the Nemagari-no-Matsu pine, I explained to some of the guests the wordplay meaning of "rising roots/prices," and had the others pass under the roots as a fun little attraction. When transferring at Kyoto Station to head to Saga-Arashiyama Station, the next local train was already full, and a rapid train departing 10 minutes later would arrive at Saga-Arashiyama only 5 minutes later, so I suggested taking the rapid train instead. The group agreed that being able to sit was preferable, and we took the rapid train. Also, after arriving at Saga-Arashiyama, when they bought breakfast at a convenience store and were about to eat while walking, I explained that this is seen as bad manners in Japan and suggested eating while standing next to the store. They said they appreciated learning about the cultural differences and kindly cooperated, which was great. After strolling through the bamboo grove, we headed to Kinkaku-ji by JR and bus. As some of the guests showed signs of tiredness from the humidity and all the walking, I suggested a break for ice cream available within the Kinkaku-ji grounds, and after viewing Kinkaku-ji, they relaxed for a while in the shade. Since one of the guests preferred not to be on a bus for a long time, we took the subway to Nishiki Market via Kitaoji rather than a single bus. At Nishiki Market, since one of the guests wanted to eat chicken, I guided them to a yakitori skewer shop. It was heartwarming to see the group happily biting into large yakitori skewers. By that time we were nearly out of time, and they said they would explore on their own as a group and return to Osaka, so we ended the tour. It was hot and humid, but there was no rain and no direct sunlight, so I was glad they enjoyed the walking tour. Aside from occasional reluctance to take family photos or ride unfamiliar public transportation, the group was energetic throughout despite some occasional signs of fatigue. I believe the tour was thoroughly satisfying for the guests.
