Title: What Happens When a Guest's Hotel Location Changes? A Licensed Guide's Private Tokyo Tour Report I was waiting at the designated meeting point as scheduled when I received a message that the guest's accommodation was actually a hotel in Yokohama, not the one I had been told, so I quickly made my way to Yokohama (this was the guest's mistake). I arrived at the hotel a little after 9:00 and started the tour after confirming that it would run until 14:00. The guest said they had not been anywhere in Tokyo yet and left the itinerary up to me, so I first took them to Asakusa. There they said, "I came here yesterday," and when I asked further, it turned out they had joined a tour the previous day and had already visited Asakusa and Meiji Shrine. Since it was hot and they preferred an indoor location, I decided to move to the Tokyo National Museum. As we were about to take the subway, the guest said they wanted to have lunch before moving on, so we had lunch at a fast-food restaurant. After that, the guest began saying, "It's too hot today, so I'd like to go straight back to the hotel," and mentioned taking a taxi. Since a taxi fare from Asakusa to Yokohama would be very expensive, I suggested returning by train, accompanied them to Shibuya, and put them on the Toyoko Line, ending the tour there. There were many unexpected situations, but the guest thanked me for adapting flexibly and returned home pleased. I am aware of the rules of [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), but as the guide-interpreter present in this situation, I did not feel comfortable charging the additional transportation cost to Yokohama, so I will cover the round-trip transportation to Yokohama myself. I will bill your company for the transportation cost based on the original meeting point in Tokyo Bay.

Hi, I am Nobu, a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (English).
I have been an English guide in Tokyo area since January 2017.
Tokyo is a wonderful city, and you may enjoy this city by yourselves.
Even so, I recommend you go around with a guide, especially if it is your first time visit to Tokyo.
A good guide will help you to understand about Tokyo and Japan as well as how to use convenient but complicated public transportations more effectively.
I am glad if I can help you to make your tour more enjoyable.
I am looking forward to meeting you in Tokyo soon!

The guest requested that photos including themselves be taken at each place we visited, for use on Christmas cards. At Oyama Shrine, the guest experienced writing an ema votive plaque and drawing an omikuji fortune. At the Higashi Chaya District, the guest enjoyed buying gold-leaf ice cream and souvenirs. Finally, at Kanazawa Station, I helped with purchasing a round-trip JR ticket for tomorrow's trip to Takayama and with changing an already-reserved Shinkansen ticket to Tokyo, and the tour came to an end.

Can You Do a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Visiting Tsukiji, the East Gardens, and Asakusa? A Licensed Guide's Report This tour was confirmed only two days before the scheduled date, but I was able to contact the guests in advance and meet up with them early on the day. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides serving all 47 prefectures. The guests were visiting from Oceania and were fond of seafood, so I first took them to Tsukiji and guided them there for a slightly longer time. They purchased a kitchen knife, but since it was made of carbon steel, sharpening it took some time, so during that wait I took them to the East Gardens and then we returned to pick it up. As it happened to be around lunchtime, we also had lunch at Tsukiji. Because we ended up stopping by Tsukiji twice and spent more time than planned, I kept my explanation at Senso-ji Temple brief. There was a request to pick up tickets that had been booked online at Shinjuku Station, so I guided them to the underground ticket office at Shinjuku, and finally I saw them back to their Hotel, ending the tour a little later than scheduled.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

Nagasaki in One Day: Inasayama Ropeway & Dejima

    Tour Itinerary

    • 10:10 Inasayama Ropeway
    • 11:00 Peace Park & Hypocenter Park
    • 11:30 Atomic Bomb Museum
    • 13:30 Chinatown and Lunch
    • 14:00 Dejima
    • 15:20 Dismissal

Can You Do a Private Family Day Tour of Nagasaki? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from North America. The guests were interested in mountains and hills, and were keen to try the Inasayama Ropeway, so we timed our visit to its operating hours and went there first. Unfortunately the weather at the summit was not ideal and we could not take our time looking around, but I hope the guests were able to enjoy at least a glimpse of Nagasaki's distinctive scenery from the ropeway. After that, since the Atomic Bomb Museum was crowded with a large cruise ship group, I first guided them to Peace Park and the Hypocenter Park. At that point one of the guests did not seem to fully grasp the significance, but when I took them to the museum, they were deeply moved. They also expressed a wish to watch the video, and I was glad if it resonated with them even a little. Another of the guests asked many sharp questions, which gave me a lot to think about as well. After that we had lunch in Chinatown and I guided them to Dejima.

Hello, I’m Rikako, but please call me Coco. It would be my absolute pleasure to show you around my hometown of Nagasaki. Having performed in the Nagasaki Kunchi Festival in my childhood, I developed a deep interest in history and cultural exchange. This motivated me to become a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter during my university years. Since then, I have gained valuable experience—from assisting ambassadors at the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony to handling a wide variety of tours, including private and coach tours, site inspections, international conference support, and VIP hospitality.
Explaining about Nagasaki’s history and culture is the most important to me. It is not only about this. I would love to provide genuine care so that your time in Nagasaki remains in your heart forever.
I’m truly looking forward to guiding you in Nagasaki 🙂

    • 4.740 Shiodome look NIppon TV Clock

What Is a Private Toyosu and Tsukiji Fish Market Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I sent the group a map for the meeting point and we met at Toyosu Market. We were able to meet without any trouble. After that, we observed the tuna auction. A shop owner from the market whom I often run into had taken up the spot by the window and was explaining things to his own customers. Although the view was a little obstructed, the group was still able to see both fresh and frozen tuna. After that, in the intermediate wholesalers' building, they enjoyed looking at knives, vegetables, and the fish displayed through the windows, and were very satisfied. We did not eat sushi, but we took the Yurikamome line toward Shiodome, saw Hayao Miyazaki's mechanical clock, and then headed to Tsukiji Market. At Tsukiji Uogashi, there was a freshly delivered half of a tuna on display, and everyone was very impressed. We ran slightly over time, but since the tour also started later by the amount of the waiting time at the meeting point, there was no problem.

    • Nagoya Port 1045→1130 Nagoya Castle 1230→1300 Sakae (lunch) 1340→1420 Nagoya Touken World 1530 (dismissal on site)

Title: What Can You See on a Private Nagoya Samurai Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe on a vacation. Since it became clear that some of the guests had a strong interest in samurai culture, and taking into account the extreme summer heat in Nagoya, I proposed indoor attractions: the Honmaru Palace at Nagoya Castle and the Nagoya Touken World. Throughout both the Honmaru Palace and Touken World, the guests explored the authentic exhibits with great curiosity, took many commemorative photos, and appeared highly satisfied. This was my first time guiding at Touken World as a Nagoya attraction, but the collection of arms and armor (bows and arrows, Japanese swords, armor, helmets, and firearms) was remarkably diverse, and I felt it was worth including on a What to Expect list.

Since I completely retired from my position at a railway company and started being involved in the tour guide interpreter business, I have experienced almost all types of guiding through FIT, Long Group Tours, Cruises (Shore Excursions), Incentive Tours, Special Interest Tours (Railway Travel, Pilgrimages), Familiarization Tours (Sales Promotion Tours) etc.
However, I noticed that I am not fully satisfied to only be a general guide who just manages a tour itinerary provided by tour agents/clients.
High-end guests have sometimes requested me to answer some enquiries that are actually challenging to answer for Japanese nationals. However, I appreciated those because they provided such a challenge and I felt that they wanted to understand my sense of beauty/values as a guide concerning a new culture for them.
Every time I host my guest I do my best to prepare the most appropriate information based on three travel elements (appetite, logistics, accommodation). Nevertheless, I decided to aim for higher guiding skills after I was motivated by senior guides whose guiding strategies and gestures were particularly impressive.

What's a Private Kanazawa Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kenrokuen, Kanazawa Castle, and Higashi Chaya District I guided guests visiting from Europe on a private tour of Kanazawa. They enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Gyokusen'inmaru Garden, the traditional architecture of Kanazawa Castle, and the lush natural views of Kenrokuen Garden. They also appreciated the elegant Shima teahouse and the gold leaf crafts in the Higashi Chaya District. The guests were looking for a magnet as a souvenir and found one at a souvenir shop in the Higashi Chaya District. One of the guests seemed to particularly like an owl figurine. Although we did not eat together, the guests said they enjoyed dishes such as ramen, okonomiyaki, and seafood rice bowls.

I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures. I have also guided foreign people around Ishikawa Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, and Fukui Prefecture as an international activity of an English circle. I was a volunteer interpreter at the training camp for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021.

Hokuriku region has a lot of sightseeing spots as follows, beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, traditional crafts like Kaga Yuzen dyeing, Takaoka copperware, and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism such as Kurobe dam and industrial tourism.

I also work as a translator. I translated the Japanese firefly squid tourism pamphlet into English in 2020.

What's a 6-Hour Private Kyoto Temple and Shrine Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting from North America. This was their first opportunity to visit Kyoto, as one of them had spent time in Japan previously but had never had the chance to come to Kyoto, and the trip also served as a celebration for the group. What Is a Private Kagoshima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Visiting a Church, Aquarium, and Sakurajima The guests were a group visiting Kagoshima. In the prior arrangements, the plan was to visit Sakurajima and Sengan-en Garden. However, an email arrived the day before with several requests: first, they did not want to use the foot bath at Sakurajima in the heat, and wished to avoid the volcanic ash; second, some of the guests had been unable to pray at a church elsewhere and asked whether they could pray at a Catholic church; and third, they wanted to know where they could buy a variety of Kit Kat flavors as souvenirs. In addition, since one of the guests used a cane, it seemed best to avoid walking long distances under the strong sun, so we decided to skip Sengan-en Garden as well, and I quickly recommended the Xavier Church and the aquarium instead. At the Xavier Church, a staff member lit a candle for us, and the group was able to pray quietly. At the aquarium, we were able to borrow a wheelchair, so everyone could take their time enjoying the exhibits. The visit was especially delightful for the group. Because I had scouted the Don Quijote store the day before, the shopping went smoothly, and since the guests wanted to visit again on the way back, we stopped by a branch near the port. I believe they were very satisfied with the tour.

I worked as a producer at a TV company for over 40 years and moved from Tokyo to Kagoshima in the spring of 2024. I lived in Kagoshima in my 20s and married a Kagoshima woman, so Kagoshima is my second home. My strength is my familiarity with Tokyo and Kagoshima. If you are interested in Japanese people, especially our culture, traditions, history and food, why not contact me? Kagoshima has a unique charm that Tokyo does not have. You will be fascinated not only by the famous tourist spots, but also by walking through the downtown area and back streets. Let’s explore!

Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Harajuku, Meiji Shrine, and Ginza Body: The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. They had checked in a couple of days earlier, and the previous day the group strolled around Ginza, which is near their hotel. Having experienced Tokyo's hot and humid summer firsthand during their walk in Ginza, they came fully prepared with heat protection for today's tour. The group purchased soccer uniforms and related goods at a soccer uniform shop in Harajuku. The guests were very interested in Japanese youth fashion, and the attached photo was taken by a shop staff member at one of the stores they visited.
