    Can You Do a Private Day Tour of Tokyo in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe for a trip of about three weeks. They arrived in Osaka and rented a Prius, planning to travel to Suzuka Circuit, Jigokudani Monkey Park, Matsumoto, Takayama, and Hiroshima. After explaining an overview of Tokyo and Japanese history, we started at the Imperial Palace Outer Garden, the former site of Edo Castle. The sunlight was strong and the temperature reached 37 degrees, so one of the guests purchased a parasol. Even at Meiji Shrine, which has plenty of shade, and after resting at a cool cafe, the guests appeared tired, so we went from Kiddy Land on Omotesando back to the Hotel, ending the tour.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour of Senso-ji and Meiji Shrine Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a visitor from North America on their first trip to Japan. Despite the heat, the guest thoroughly enjoyed today's tour. At Senso-ji Temple and Meiji Shrine, the guest seemed to master the differences between temples and shrines, the different ways of praying at each, and their histories. The guest also received goshuin stamps, drew omikuji fortunes, enjoyed plenty of shopping along Nakamise-dori and at the Meiji Shrine shop, and took many photos at each location. The guest was surprised by the heat of the Japanese summer, but fully enjoyed the tour even while drenched in sweat. To help prevent heatstroke, I treated the guest to matcha ice cream at Senso-ji and a Coca-Cola at Meiji Shrine. This week, in addition to watching a professional baseball game, the guest plans to take day trips to Kyoto and the 5th Station of Mount Fuji, after which the group will also travel to Sapporo, so it seems they will fully enjoy the Japanese summer.

    When I was a university student, I had the opportunities of doing a home stay with a family In U.S.A., Australia, and England, as a youth exchange student.
    After graduation from the university, I started working at American Life Insurance Company, Japan (Alico, Japan), which is a group member company of AIG, now MetLife Insurance Company. I could have a chance to visit the head office and the field offices of U.S.A., Wilmington in Delaware, New York, Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale in Florida, Los Angeles, while I was working for Alico, Japan (Now, MetLife Insurance company).
    I had been working for MetLife Insurance Company for about 38 years, in total.
    After retiring from the life insurance company, I started working as a tour guide, because I wanted to become a tour guide to introduce culture, history, and manners and customs of Japan in English. It’s so different between my previous job and the guide business, but I like guide business a lot.
    I can meet so many people from all over the world and the guide business has been thriving after the pandemic.
    I have implemented the tour over 240 times, introduced Japan to more than 4300 tourists from 53 countries.

    Not only Tokyo, but I have experienced touring around Nikko, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji & Hakone area, Takayama, Kanazawa, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima, etc. which are all very famous as a tourist spot in Japan.
    If you go on a tour in Tokyo, you must see and visit Asakusa Sensoji Temple which is the oldest Buddhist Temple in Tokyo with histories and Nakamise Shopping Street where you can buy the souvenirs and try to taste Japanese sweets, such as doll cake which is the sponge cake in various shapes filled with red bean paste and Japanese powdered tea ice cream. Another my recommendation in Tokyo to visit is Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya. Meiji Shrine is one of the biggest shrines in Japan with quiet and peaceful atmosphere and magnificent site.
    Harajuku and Shibuya are both fun to visit for shopping and experience the Shibuya Crossing.
    I usually propose my tentative itinerary and ask if my plan is all right with the customer or not. My hobby is traveling around Japan and foreign countries and going to the gym for exercise.
    I would like to work as a guide as long as possible if I’m in good health and my legs are strong, because I love this job.
    I put my importance on the mind of OMOTENASHI which means sincere hospitality, though safety during the tour takes precedence, number one priority, before anything else.

    What Is an 8-Hour Private Tokyo Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine I guided a group visiting from Europe on an 8-hour private tour of Tokyo. I was concerned about the extreme summer heat, but we managed well: at Tsukiji we entered the fish market area, at Hamarikyu Gardens we walked through the shade and cooled off at the teahouse on the island (Nakajima), we had lunch in Asakusa, chose shaded paths and arcades as we went, cooled down on the subway during transfers, and found Meiji Shrine to have plenty of shade, so the guests stayed in good spirits until the end. We bought water three times along the way. It was a lovely group with wide-ranging interests. At Tsukiji they enjoyed yakitori and tuna at a shop I recommended. We bought Shinkansen tickets to Kyoto together at a ticket machine at Shimbashi Station. For lunch they happily enjoyed a chicken tender rice bowl and a chilled gomoku udon. They purchased makeup brushes and cooking brushes at Kanaya Brush, and lots of cosmetics at a cosmetics store in Harajuku. They seemed especially impressed by Nezu Shrine and its thousand torii gates.

    Title: What's a Private Family-Friendly Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Since some of the guests were conversing in Spanish, I asked about it and learned they had roots in Latin America. At the outset, the group had requested a relaxed pace with restaurant stops, a chance to experience pop culture, some shopping, and a look at a geisha district, so I had arranged Hanamikoji Street, a Nintendo shop, Nishiki Market, and the Pokémon Center into the itinerary. If time remained, I intended to take them to Nijo Castle or Kyoto Tower. Making the most of the opportunity, I came up with the idea of walking through Kennin-ji Temple on the way to Hanamikoji Street. When I explained the meaning of the roof tiles bearing the triple-comma design and the significance of the main gate, everyone listened attentively. When I asked whether they would like to enter the abbot's quarters (hojo), the answer was yes, so we went inside. One of the guests, being interested in architecture, eagerly took photographs of the garden and buildings. Another was moved by the beauty of the garden and took many photos as well. There were chairs set with tatami where one could sit and gaze at the garden, and one guest remarked, "I could stay here forever." Indeed, a gentle breeze made it very pleasant. I noticed for the first time myself that the pillars of the hojo room framed the Choontei Garden beyond like a beautiful painting. After visiting Kennin-ji, we headed to Hanamikoji Street, where I talked about the characteristics of the tea houses. We then set off walking toward Takashimaya, and along the way one of the guests found a shop selling Japanese-style trinkets and bought some souvenirs. Meanwhile, others in the group played with gachapon machines and enjoyed ice cream. We arrived at Takashimaya right at a good time for a meal, so I asked how they would like to handle lunch. Some of the guests were ready to eat, while another had eaten a large breakfast and only wanted a drink, so I suggested a family restaurant. When I asked whether a wait of nine groups would be acceptable, the answer was yes, so we waited outside. During that time, part of the group went to the Nintendo shop. I apologized for the long wait, but the response was that they did not mind. Certainly, sitting for an hour in air conditioning is better than wandering around outside in the heat. When our turn finally came, we chatted about various topics, including the insurance system and tariffs. After lunch, we all went to the Nintendo shop and took photos on the rooftop. Next, one of the guests wanted to buy a book about Japan, so we went to the book section, where they purchased many books. It seemed this guest holds gatherings to read poetry, and asked what Japanese poetry is like, so I explained haiku. They took interest and bought a book on haiku as well. Another guest bought a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure book as a souvenir for friends. From there, we went to Teramachi Kyogoku and then Nishiki Market. They took photos in front of the large lantern at Teramachi Kyogoku. I then introduced Nishikitenmangu Shrine. When I explained that touching the head of the guardian ox statue and then your own head brings good fortune, one guest encouraged another to do so. Some of the things at Nishiki Market seemed unusual and novel to the guests. One of the guests bought a strawberry daifuku and a matcha daifuku, and I was treated to a matcha daifuku as well. As one of the group wanted strawberry juice and another wanted chocolate-covered strawberries, we decided to take a break at a juice stand along the way. One of the guests, eyes sparkling, said, "The Pokémon Center is close, so we're going there, right?" so we headed to the Pokémon Center. After spending some time there, our time was up and we parted ways. The guests were a very kind and caring group, and I too enjoyed a wonderful day. Regarding the admission fee for Kennin-ji, the guests kindly covered my portion as well, so I have not billed the company for it.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nezu Shrine, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine The guests were visitors from North America on their first trip to Japan. They had arrived the previous day and were scheduled to board a cruise the day after. Since they came down to the lobby ten minutes before the meeting time, I carefully confirmed the itinerary and gave an orientation. They wanted to avoid crowds and see more traditional Japanese places, so I changed our destinations from the Shibuya Scramble Crossing to Nezu Shrine. The tour also included occasional rest stops as needed. In Asakusa, we chose the covered areas of the west approach and Shin-Nakamise. At Shin-Nakamise the guests bought souvenirs; recently guests have consistently enjoyed shopping at Shin-Nakamise. There was a question about the difference between Shinto and Buddhism, which I explained on the way from Nezu to Meiji Shrine. At Meiji Shrine we took commemorative photos by the camphor trees. Since seafood, including soup, did not suit them, we had lunch at a tonkotsu (pork-bone) based ramen shop, Ippudo. As a bonus, we stopped by the basement food floor of a department store in Ginza, where the guests were amazed and delighted; although we went over time, I was glad to have taken them there.

    Can You Do a Private Tsukiji and Asakusa Food Tour in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour was originally scheduled for August 1, but the flight was canceled and it was rescheduled to August 2. The guests were visitors from North America, joining the tour together. They usually travel with the rest of their family, but this year they traveled together for the first time. After staying in Japan for a few days, they planned to continue to another destination in Asia. The heat and humidity left them feeling quite tired. Both guests were polite and earnest. Since the itinerary had been decided by someone else in their family, I could not be sure whether these were places they truly wanted to visit. At Tsukiji, they enjoyed eating sushi, tuna sashimi at a specialty tuna shop, wagyu beef, and matcha ice cream. One of the guests purchased matcha as a gift. Since neither of them was especially interested in anime and we had time, we also stopped by Asakusa. As they were scheduled to join another tour starting at 5:00, I told them the location and we parted ways.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, and Arashiyama We were able to meet at 10:40 and started about 10 minutes early. Since the guests were hungry, we had ramen at a ramen shop near Kiyomizu-dera. It was delicious, and I received the compliment that it was the best ramen they had ever eaten. At Kiyomizu-dera, the guests showed great interest in the structure of the temple and asked many questions about it. They also asked why people used to jump from the Kiyomizu stage and what kind of people survived. At Kinkaku-ji, whereas in the past visitors could exit through the entrance gate, this time it was strictly refused, so in the end we walked the entire route. Passing through Tenryu-ji, the guests were very pleased with the Bamboo Grove Path, and on the way back they happily purchased two sets of green tea utensils as souvenirs. In the end, they decided to visit Fushimi Inari Taisha, which had been planned, on the following day, so the tour concluded after visiting three locations.

    What Is a Private Group Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, Shinjuku, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. Some of the guests had visited Japan about 20 years earlier, while for the others it was their first visit. The group had arrived at Haneda Airport on a direct flight the previous day and traveled to their hotel by taxi. The main purpose of this visit to Japan was a four-day cruise departing from Yokohama starting on the 5th. They wanted to enjoy some sightseeing in Japan beforehand. They also mentioned that they were planning a day trip to Kamakura the following day. A few things became clear only after meeting the group in person on the day: 1. Separately from me, another [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide had been assigned a tour for part of the group departing at the same time from the same meeting point. 2. The group's representative requested that everyone be guided together as a single group with two guides, and after consulting with each other, the two guides accepted. 3. Although the group was originally intended to be larger, some of the guests were unable to join, resulting in a group tour of ten in total. Before the tour, the representative had asked that we proceed slowly, as some members had difficulty walking, that the choice of destinations be left entirely to the guides, and that lunch would not be needed. It was a tour under clear skies and extreme heat. We took trains and the subway, first heading to Asakusa, which as usual was crowded with many tourists. We started from in front of the Kaminarimon Gate. I explained the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo, the purpose of the five-story pagoda, what Buddhism is, and the differences between Buddhism and Shinto. We took commemorative photos in front of the Kaminarimon Gate and strolled slowly along the Nakamise shopping street. There were many questions, such as what Japan's major religions are, how many Buddhists there are in Japan, what other religions people follow, and how many immigrants from certain regions live in Japan. On the way back, some of the guests wanted to buy a parasol, so we visited an umbrella shop in the shopping street, where they spent time browsing and enthusiastically negotiating prices. From there, we moved to the Imperial Palace. I explained the history of Edo, the transition from the Edo period to the Meiji era, the Meiji Restoration, why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace, and why the capital moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. There were questions such as what happened to the shogun and samurai after the Meiji Restoration, whether the current emperor of Japan holds political power, and how Japanese people feel about the next emperor. Along the way, the guests seemed quite tired from the extreme heat, stopping frequently to rest and sitting down for short breaks even in the rest areas. However, inside the East Gardens, they took photos enthusiastically in many spots. Some of the guests said they really wanted to sit down somewhere and rest, so we went to a vegetarian restaurant in the Tokyo Midtown cafeteria. Some of the guests had lunch in the restaurant, while others enjoyed a packed lunch they had brought with them on a bench in the cafeteria. Originally we had planned to visit Meiji Shrine afterward, but since the guests did not want to walk for long, we went instead to the observation deck at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku. Here, too, some of the guests went up to the observation deck, while others waited on the first floor, saying they had a separate plan to go to Tokyo Tower and did not want to go up. They remarked that it made them realize just how large a city Tokyo is. We moved on to Shibuya. We viewed the Scramble Crossing (they did not want to walk across it) and took photos enthusiastically. We also took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. There was a question about why so many people gather there. After this, we went to the Toyoko Line platform. We had planned to part ways here, but some of the guests felt uneasy and asked to be accompanied to Yokohama Station, so I traveled with them to Yokohama Station. There were questions and comments such as why there are no trash cans on the streets, that Tokyo's subway system is extremely well designed, and that the public restrooms are wonderful. Finally, we parted ways at Yokohama Station.

    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.

    Title: What Can You See on a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They were in Japan for a ten-day trip, staying in Tokyo before continuing to Kyoto and Osaka, then returning to Tokyo before heading home. The evening before, they had arrived at Narita Airport and taken the "Narita Express" to Tokyo Station. This visit was to celebrate a special occasion. They mentioned that they planned to go to Disneyland the next day, and said they would leave all of today's destinations up to me. It was a tour under cloudy but very hot weather (though it did rain at the end in Shibuya). Since they wanted to buy a Suica card, we first went to the ticket office at Tokyo Station. From there, we took the subway to Tsukiji. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, I explained the history of Tokyo's fish market since the Edo period and the difference between the Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market. Even early in the morning, it was quite crowded. There were questions and comments such as, "Do all Tokyo residents come here to buy fish?" and "It's crowded, but it seems like there are many tourists." We moved on to Asakusa, which was extremely crowded as usual, and we could only move very slowly. Starting from the front of Kaminarimon Gate, I explained the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo, the purpose of the five-story pagoda, what Buddhism is, and the difference between Buddhism and Shinto. We also strolled leisurely along Takeshita Street, Cat Street, and Omotesando. Then we moved to Shibuya. First, we took photos looking down at Scramble Square from the platform of the Keio Inokashira Line, and afterward actually crossed the intersection. There was a question, "Why do so many people gather here?" We also took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. At that point, it suddenly began to rain. There were questions and comments such as, "Tokyo feels like a clean and safe city," "Why aren't there any trash cans on the streets?", and "The Tokyo subway system is very well organized." Since they were unfamiliar with Tokyo's transportation, I saw them off at Kyobashi Station, where we parted ways.

    What Is a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Ueno and Tokyo National Museum Report The guests were visitors from North America. Since they had also stopped in Asia before coming to Japan, they felt they would probably be fine with the heat and humidity. Even so, since spending the entire day outdoors could risk heatstroke, I suggested including an indoor location, and took them to the Tokyo National Museum. For lunch, their preferences differed, with one leaning toward seafood and the other toward meat dishes, so I took them to "Ototo" in Ueno, which offers many options, and they were very pleased. We ran slightly over the scheduled time, but we were able to complete the entire planned itinerary, and I believe the guests enjoyed it.
