They mentioned that their home area is also quite humid, so they found the Japanese heat surprisingly bearable. One of the guests had wanted to visit Japan since childhood. At the former Edo Castle grounds, the guests walked the full route without taking any shortcuts. In Asakusa, we had lunch first and then went sightseeing. Perhaps because of the heat, the area was relatively uncrowded overall. The guests had specific spots they wanted to see in Akihabara, so after I gave an overall explanation, they wished to explore at their own pace, and the tour ended at a shop there. Since 8:00 was too early for the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, we set the departure for 8:30. It was a pleasure to guide the group.

    Title: What's a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Roppongi, Nezu, and Asakusa I guided guests visiting from North America on a private full-day tour of Tokyo. In advance the guests had requested a visit to Nezu. Considering the location of their Hotel and other factors, I decided to skip Meiji Shrine and instead re-proposed Akasaka and Roppongi at the meeting point, which the guests agreed to, and we started the tour. During their ten-day stay in Japan, their plan was Tokyo to Osaka to Kyoto and back to Tokyo. The night before, they had enjoyed an omakase course at a high-end sushi restaurant in Nishiazabu. They also had plans to visit a steak restaurant in Ryogoku, showing a strong interest in food. We began by trying tamagoyaki at Yamacho in Tsukiji. After strolling through the crowded market, we headed to Akasaka and Roppongi. As the temperature rose, I encouraged the guests to stay hydrated, and we walked in the shade of buildings and trees while I introduced various spots. While showing the former Nogi Residence and Nogi Shrine — where a guest remarked, "Unlike Meiji Shrine, there are few people here and the quiet, serene atmosphere is impressive" — as well as the building of an art museum, the topic of Frank Lloyd Wright also came up. After buying water at a supermarket in Tokyo Midtown, we headed to Nezu. From Nezu Station we walked through narrow alleys lined with eateries and shops toward Hebi-michi. Passing through a residential area and going up Misakizaka, we took an air-conditioning and shaved-ice break at Marguerite Cafe. Because one of the guests seemed a little tired in this unusual heat, instead of walking to Ueno Park as originally planned, I asked, "How about passing through the cemetery, taking the JR line to Asakusa — though this would extend the tour by about 30 minutes beyond the end time?" and the guests agreed. I also suggested we could visit a knife shop on Kappabashi Street (mentioned during the Tsukiji portion) and eateries in Asakusa, which they also agreed to (at this point it was 13:00). While guiding around Kappabashi, the heat seemed to take its toll, and a guest requested, "Please skip the temple and take us to eateries." I asked, "It's about a ten-minute walk, but is your condition okay?" and the guests agreed. I introduced several eateries and we arrived at an udon restaurant. After confirming with the staff that they served cold noodle dishes and accepted credit card payment, we parted ways with smiles.

    Private Full-Day Walking Tour of Tokyo from Tokyo Station: A Licensed Guide's Report on Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa The guests were visiting from Oceania, living near a national park. One of them had visited Japan about 50 years earlier. The guests travel all over the world, and this time combined a roughly two-month trip through Europe with their visit to Japan. They had been in Europe just before arriving. When I met them on the day, they said they would leave the itinerary entirely up to me as their guide, so we began. Despite the intense heat, the guests were remarkably strong walkers. We first walked from their accommodation, located right by the Yaesu exit of Tokyo Station, to the Imperial Palace. After that, we went via Ginza-dori to Meiji Shrine. While I was explaining the ema (votive wooden plaques) hung at Meiji Shrine, one of the guests spotted, among the many ema, one with three dogs' faces painted on it, pointed to one of them and laughed, saying "That's definitely a Pomeranian," and asked about the meaning of the message written on it. The message appeared to be in Chinese, reading something like "peace and good health." On the premise that I do not understand Chinese, I inferred from the meaning of the kanji and answered that it was probably a wish for the health of a beloved dog. The guests told me that they keep two Pomeranians at home and showed me photos. Their family was looking after the dogs while they were away, but they said they missed them during the long trip and would need to make an effort to be remembered by them once they returned home. For lunch in Shibuya, the guests wanted something light, so I offered several options, and they decided to each buy something they liked at the basement food hall and eat in the eat-in corner. At Tokyu Food Show they had salad and acai yogurt, among other things. When they noticed I was drinking carrot-apple juice, one of them showed interest and bought the same drink to have as well. After that, when we arrived in Asakusa, the Asakusa Samba Carnival happened to be taking place, so there were traffic restrictions and enormous crowds. That said, this may have meant that Nakamise-dori and similar areas were relatively less crowded. The guests bought several souvenirs. One item they particularly liked was a fairly realistic, high-quality ceramic maneki-neko (beckoning cat) figurine. At the Hachiko statue in front of Shibuya Station, they were moved by the story of the loyal dog Hachiko and bought a Hachiko plush toy as well, and from all of this I could sense how much they love animals. Because of the traffic restrictions, we could not cross over to the Sumida Park side, so we could only view the Asahi Beer headquarters building and similar sights from a distance. Finally, upon arriving at Nihonbashi Station, we said our goodbyes on the Ginza Line.

    Title: What Is a Private Nikko Tour Like for a Repeat Visitor to Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests had visited Japan more than twenty times and had deep knowledge of Japanese culture and history. On the day of the tour, they wanted to see as many sightseeing spots as possible, so I worked to save time and maximize efficiency wherever I could. Since they also wished to continue exploring on their own after the tour ended, I gave them a map and written instructions explaining how to reach the Tamozawa Imperial Villa, the Kanaya Historical Museum, and the Kanmangafuchi Abyss before we parted. Because I did everything I could for them, I believe they were quite satisfied. In addition, since the religious connections in Nikko can be difficult to understand, I explained the differences between Japanese Buddhism and Indian Buddhism, the relationship between Shinto and Buddhism, and its ties to mountain worship. As they already had a solid foundation of knowledge, they listened with great interest.

    Title: Can You Do a Private Nara Day Tour in Summer Heat? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting from Europe. They mentioned that where they live, temperatures do not exceed 30 degrees even at the height of summer. Today in Nara, the heat was forecast to approach 40 degrees. Since walking around the expansive Nara Park would be demanding, I used the bus as much as possible so that the guests could continue the tour to the end. Even so, by the end they were completely worn out, and although I had planned for us to return from Toshodai-ji Temple to the Hotel by Kintetsu train, they said they would prefer to go back by taxi, so we did that. I was glad they were able to continue the tour all the way through.

Confirmed the previously discussed course and agreed to visit Sensoji Temple, Tsukiji Outer Market, and Meiji Shrine in that order, and to go to Yanaka Ginza if time allowed. However, on the way walking to Shinjuku Station, they requested, "I'm going to Kyoto by Shinkansen on the 1st, so could you help me buy the tickets?" and mentioned they wanted to purchase a Suica card, so we went to the Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office at JR Shinjuku Station.
    • 10:20-11:00 Showed them Omoide Yokocho right near the hotel, then helped with purchasing the Shinkansen ticket and obtaining a Suica card at the Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office at JR Shinjuku Station. Also showed them the 3D cat screen at the East Exit. After finishing, we headed to Asakusa.
    • 11:40-13:20 Guided them along the Sumida Riverside → Kaminarimon Gate → Nakamise Shopping Street → Hozomon Gate → Main Hall → Stone Bridge → Asakusa Shrine, and after finishing, while walking along Kannon Street toward Asakusa Station on the Ginza Line, the parade of the Asakusa Samba Carnival held today happened to start at 1 PM, so we watched for about 10 minutes. Although it was a coincidence, they were greatly delighted. After finishing, we headed to Tsukiji Outer Market.
    • 14:00-14:40 Had lunch at the Sushi Zanmai conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Tsukiji Outer Market. After finishing, we headed to Meiji Shrine.
    • 15:05-15:45 Guided them around Meiji Shrine. When it was over, I asked what they would like to do next, and since it was nearly 40 degrees hot, they said, "I want to go back to the hotel and rest." So I took them from JR Harajuku Station to Shinjuku Station, guided them to a spot where they could find the way to the hotel, and parted ways at 16:10.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, and Beating the Heat The guests arrived from Europe on the morning of August. Since I had shared detailed advice on coping with the heat well in advance, the guests came prepared with UV-blocking parasols, which was a great help. They had also brought cooling towels, and since the temperature in central Tokyo reached nearly 39 degrees today with a stifling, exhausting heat outside, these items proved very useful. I also came prepared for the heat with my own UV-blocking parasol, towel, and fan (laughs). For the sushi restaurant at Tsukiji Outer Market, since the guests preferred an economical option, I chose a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant. This restaurant is different from ordinary conveyor-belt sushi places — the ingredients are extremely fresh and delicious, and it is also inexpensive, so the guests were delighted in the end. They ate their fill of sushi and enjoyed beer and wine, all for 9,000 yen, and were amazed at how affordable it was. I was glad I took them there. At Meiji Shrine, I received many questions about the process of Japan's modernization, so while walking I explained in considerable detail the process of Japan's modernization and the role played by Emperor Meiji. Timewise, there was ultimately no time to visit Yanaka Ginza, but since the guests will have a full free day in Tokyo on the 31st, I provided an explanation about Yanaka. Also, since a relative of one of the guests is a big fan of Ghibli and wanted to bring back Ghibli character goods, I explained in detail how to get to the Donguri Republic shop on Character Street in the First Avenue Tokyo Station basement level, which delighted the guests, who said they would go there. Given today's heat, and since it was only their second day after arrival, I advised them to stay well hydrated and take precautions against leg cramps at night before we parted. The guests plan to visit Kyoto and then Osaka, returning home from the Kansai region. They were a lovely group to be with, and it left me feeling warm and happy as well.

    What's a 4-Hour Private Tour of Sendai Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Through email discussions beforehand, the guests specified several points in Sendai City to visit within a 4-hour window. (Initially they had hoped to visit a beer brewery, but the tour times did not match, so they changed their plan.) The guests were visitors from North America. They had passed through Sendai on a previous trip and had such a good impression that they chose to return. At Mitakisan, the first stop, I told the story of Shiro Sendai, the guardian deity of Sendai merchants, and the guests listened with great interest. Wishing for success in their own work, they bought many Shiro Sendai goods and also wrote their wishes on an ema votive plaque to dedicate. To reach Zuihoden, the Loople Sendai bus is the standard option, but since it was a Saturday, I was concerned about crowds and had proposed an alternative route in advance. As expected, people were lining up in front of the Loople stop and it was uncertain whether we could get seats, so we took a regular route bus from the stop on the opposite side. Compared to the Loople, this involves walking an extra three to four minutes, but at least we could be seated. Since the theme of the tour felt centered on Date Masamune, I also explained why he is popular and why tourists gather here. It was memorable how carefully the guests studied the explanatory panels in front of the beautiful mausoleum. From Zuihoden to Osaki Hachimangu, I had planned to take the Loople if the bus stop was clear, or to go back to the Otamayabashi stop and transfer if people were lining up. Luckily, there was no one at the stop in front of Zuihoden, so I judged we could reliably board the Loople and we were able to reach Osaki Hachimangu without transferring. At Osaki Hachimangu, I talked about the naked pilgrimage held in January and about the bantam chickens kept at the shrine. Normally a blue daruma is also on display, but due to the Torii Festival being held, we could not see it, which was a shame. Since it was hot today, we decided to simply head back to Sendai Station, and as a route bus arrived right away, we took it. On the way to the accommodation, I suggested showing them the Sendai Morning Market, and after strolling there, the guests said they wanted to relax on their own over some tea, so we parted ways in the market about ten minutes early. Since we started at 10:30, which was late, it was already past lunchtime, but I thought I could have suggested a tea break along the way. It was 35 degrees Celsius. Although slightly cooler than Tokyo, the guests seemed tired.

This brought us to just the right time, and afterward I saw them off at their Hotel before we parted ways.     Title: What Can You See in One Day in Tokyo? A Licensed Private Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shibuya, and Shinjuku The guest was a visitor from Oceania, on their first trip to Japan. They were part of a group tour of about 40 people visiting Japan. The group had arrived at Narita Airport the previous evening and traveled to the hotel by bus. This morning, the group toured the Imperial Palace, Nijubashi Bridge, and Meiji Shrine by group bus. The overall trip to Japan was 12 days, with only this single day spent in Tokyo. From tomorrow, they planned to visit Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Hiroshima, before returning to Tokyo and then heading home. The request was, "I would like to see the main spots in the city as much as time allows." The tour took place under intensely hot and humid weather. We met at the hotel. The tour had been planned for the group, but as one of them was unwell and could not participate, the tour proceeded with one guest. First, we went to Tsukiji Market. Some shops were already preparing to close. After visiting Tsukiji Uogashi, we moved on to the Tsukiji Outer Market. I explained "the history of Tokyo's fish market since the Edo period" and "the difference between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market." It was quite crowded. The guest asked and commented, "Do all Tokyo residents come here to buy fish?" and "It is crowded, but it seems there are many tourists." Since they had not yet had lunch, they bought and sampled "tuna sushi" while standing. We moved on to Asakusa. As always, it was very crowded. We started from in front of Kaminarimon Gate. I explained "the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo," "what the five-story pagoda is for," "what Buddhism is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." We took commemorative photos in front of Kaminarimon Gate and also in front of the five-story pagoda. We strolled slowly along the Nakamise shopping street. There were questions such as "What are the main religions in Japan?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people follow?", and "Are there Christians in Japan?" We moved on to Shibuya. First, we took photos looking down on Scramble Square from the platform of the Keio Inokashira Line, then actually crossed the intersection. There were questions such as "Why do so many people gather here?" and "Are there more locals or more tourists?" We also took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. From here, we moved on to Shinjuku Sanchome. I explained "the origins and history of Shinjuku" and "the difference between the east and west sides of the station." We walked around and explored Shinjuku Golden Gai, Kabukicho, the Godzilla Head, and Omoide Yokocho. The guest enthusiastically took video of the "3D cat display." There were comments and questions such as "I felt Tokyo is a clean and safe city" and "Why are there no trash bins around the streets?" As the guest said, "I am not sure how to ride the subway, so please take me back to the hotel," I saw them to Shin-Okachimachi Station, and we parted ways.

    Can You See Toyosu and Tsukiji Markets in One Day in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were first-time visitors to Japan from Oceania, and this was the first day of their tour. They were scheduled to depart the next day on a two-week cruise from the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, so this was effectively a single day of touring in Tokyo.
