What's a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Asakusa The guests were a group from North America. After visiting central Tokyo and a theme park, they planned to travel to Asia in September rather than continuing to Kyoto or other destinations. At Meiji Shrine, they seemed impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere, which was very different from Shibuya. At Shinjuku Gyoen, they explored the beautiful Japanese garden with great interest. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with interest to historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo Shogunate. At Senso-ji Temple, they listened with interest to explanations about the differences between temples and shrines, as well as the Kaminarimon Gate. After the tour, since the guests said they could do some shopping and return to their hotel on their own, we parted ways in Asakusa. I responded according to the guests' wishes, so I believe they were satisfied.

I am Seizo Kamiuto, National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (English). I was born in Kagoshima City in Kyushu (Southern part of Japan) and grew up there until the graduation from a high school. I came to Tokyo to enter a University in Tokyo and since then, I have lived in Tokyo for more than 40 years and therefore I know Tokyo and its suburbs and Kagoshima City very well. After retiring from an IT company, I have been working as a Guide Interpreter of English since March 2018. I have guided many overseas guests to the popular sightseeing spots in Tokyo, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji area (Kawaguchiko Lake etc.), Hakone, Nikko, Yokohama, Kawagoe and Kagoshima and so on. I have received good reviews from many guests. I can explain the history and the culture of Japan in detail. I look forward to an opportunity to guide you in Japan. Thank you. Seizo Kamiuto

Title: What's a Private Tokyo Sightseeing Tour Like for Guests Revisiting Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Tower, and Hamarikyu Gardens The guests were senior visitors from Asia. They had once lived in Fukuoka for about two and a half years for work and had also experienced sightseeing in Tokyo before. The purpose of this visit was to take commemorative photos at places full of memories and to visit a spot they had not been able to see back then, Hamarikyu Gardens. As there was some slight concern about their physical condition, they had arranged their own dedicated taxi through their hotel. At Meiji Shrine, one of the guests was delighted in front of the first torii gate and the sake barrels, saying, "Even though I had heard of Meiji Shrine, I couldn't picture it at all, but these sake barrels brought back memories." We also happened to come across two wedding ceremonies, and the guests took video and many photographs. Both of them also purchased many omamori charms. We strolled at a leisurely pace, but after walking for a little under an hour, they appeared to be tired. So I changed the original order of the visit and first headed to Tokyo Tower, which involved less walking. We went up to the observation deck, and I introduced sights such as the newly built Mori Tower at Azabudai Hills. Next we visited Hamarikyu Gardens, a place they had long yearned to see but had never been able to visit. They enjoyed a relaxed walk while admiring the beautifully maintained pines and the tidal pond. At the teahouse on the central island, they savored matcha together with nerikiri sweets and dorayaki filled with chestnut. I had wanted to introduce the duck hunting grounds and the shogun's landing site as well, but at their request to reduce the walking distance, we returned along the same path and, finally, admired the three-hundred-year-old pine before leaving the garden. By coincidence, Hamarikyu Gardens was running a Respect for the Aged Day campaign in which entry was free for those aged 60 and over, and everyone was able to benefit from it. The final point of the tour requested was the Yaesu exit of Tokyo Station, where I parted from the guests, who planned to shop at the department store there. In the car, one of the guests, who was well informed about Japanese politics, mentioned the candidates in the upcoming ruling party leadership election, and another guest laughed, noting that one of the candidates was as handsome as a movie star. It was also explained that the candidate's father had been a former prime minister. Due to traffic restrictions for the World Athletics race walking event, we had to take a slight detour on the way from Meiji Shrine to Tokyo Tower, and as we happened to pass by a restaurant in Nishi-Azabu, I introduced it as the place where a former Japanese prime minister and a U.S. president had held a diplomatic conversation, famously known as "izakaya diplomacy." The guests seemed intrigued by this.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe, visiting Japan for the first time. They appeared to have very particular interests, asking detailed and specialized questions and taking many photographs. I did my best to explain and guide them, and after completing our visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple as described above, the tour came to an end. Having guided many groups over the years, this was the first time a tour concluded ahead of the scheduled time, and I feel regret that I was not able to make it a fully satisfying experience.

Title: What Is a Private Walking and Shopping Tour of Kagoshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The group joined a private tour in Kagoshima. Although one member of the original party was unable to take part due to feeling unwell the previous day, the tour proceeded with the rest of the group. During the pre-tour discussion, the guests had mentioned wanting to learn about the history and the town, but at Terukuni Shrine they did not seem especially interested in the historical explanations, and when passing through the Goromon Gate they did not appear drawn to the Reimeikan museum, so I changed the afternoon plan to shopping. Some of the guests were very interested in cosmetics and bought plenty of makeup brushes and night-care creams to take home. They were impressed by how clean the town was.

I’m a national government licensed tour guide. I moved to Kagoshima from Osaka four years ago because I was amazed by its perfect blend of stunning nature beauty and rich culture. We can see the majestic Sakurajima volcano from the city, which reminds us the powerful natural forces. Kagoshima was home to major Meiji Restoration figures, so history lovers will find plenty to explore. And of course, the food is incredible—famous for Kurobuta (Berkshire pork), Satsuma-age (fried fish cakes), and Shochu (a local distilled spirit).

I’m passionate about history and love visiting historical sites all over Japan. I also like outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking, and camping. Kagoshima’s natural landscape is perfect for these adventures, so there’s always something new to discover.

I look forward to sharing wonderful Kagoshima with you and making unforgettable memories together!

What Can You See in Tokyo in One Day? A Licensed Guide's Private Tour Report The guests shared that they enjoyed being able to visit a variety of both traditional and modern spots in Tokyo in a single day. This was their first time in Tokyo and in Japan, and they were curious about everything they saw, asking many questions along the way. They felt that the subway stations and trains in Tokyo were very clean, and we spent the whole day traveling by subway. They largely understood how to use it and said they felt confident about getting around on their own from the following day. After a full day of the walking tour they seemed a little tired, but they mentioned that they would likely sleep soundly after dinner.

Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report This was the second day of an approximately two-week first-time tour of Japan for a group visiting from Oceania. After Tokyo, they planned to travel to Takayama, then Kyoto and Hiroshima, before returning to Tokyo to spend a few more days. The group had researched Japan thoroughly before the trip. At the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, they were impressed by the park-like greenery surrounded by the office buildings of Otemachi and Marunouchi. We had planned to head to Meiji Shrine, but since the group wanted to have sushi for lunch, we made a spontaneous stop at a long-established sushi restaurant in Tsukiji. The guests thoroughly enjoyed the deliciousness of authentic sushi.

What Is a Private Walking Tour of Kyoto's Arashiyama Temples Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They looked Japanese in appearance but spoke only greeting-level Japanese. We took a taxi from Saga-Arashiyama Station to Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple, and conveniently a taxi was waiting right in front of the station. After Otagi Nenbutsu-ji, we visited Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple. Until quite recently, photography inside the "Sai-no-Kawara" area was prohibited, but now that the walkway underfoot has been improved, photography is apparently allowed. The condition of the ground does not seem much different from before, but photography has now become possible. The website still shows it as prohibited, but the signage on site has been removed. At both Otagi and Adashino, as before, nearly all the visitors were from overseas. It was a tour with a lot of walking, but the guests walked energetically throughout. The photo was taken at Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

The evening before, they had walked from around the Hakone Checkpoint area all the way to their accommodation, and today they planned to continue exploring on their own afterward. I also presented an itinerary plan for the next day's free pass, and today, in response to the guests' request (to experience the switchback railway), we followed the course described above. The driver from Izuhakone was also a great help, and as a result, the guests were able to have a rather unusual experience. At the Maruyama marquetry (karakuri box) workshop, the guests were excited from the moment of the presentation and purchased many souvenirs. At Choanji Temple, the Amazake Chaya teahouse, and the Hakone Checkpoint, they experienced Japanese history. They were also delighted by the switchback railway.

What Is a Private One-Day "Authentic Tokyo" Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report 1. The tour and the guests' reactions The guests wanted to experience "the real, living Tokyo," so I proposed a course featuring the retro Tokyo Tower, lunch at a recommended restaurant in Tsukiji, a goma fire prayer ritual at Fukagawa Fudodo, and watching sumo wrestlers arrive at the venue up close in front of the Kokugikan. They enjoyed the goma fire ritual and standing-bar drinking in Monzen-nakacho, were deeply moved by the sumo wrestlers in front of the Kokugikan, and became extremely excited when a lower-division wrestler kindly agreed to pose for photos. Smiling throughout, at the end the guests happily told me that their first day in Japan had become very memorable. 2. Other notes and remarks At Tokyo Tower, if you contact them in advance, the guide can enter for free, but normally only up to the lower observation deck. However, if the guests book the Top Deck Tour in advance and this is communicated to Tokyo Tower beforehand, the guide can enter up to the Top Deck for free. That said, some staff are not aware of this, and the procedure can take time, so it is better to arrive with plenty of time to spare. The guests kindly left a high review right away.
