Can You Do a Private Tokyo Day Tour at a Slow Walking Pace? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. In their advance messages they said they had no particular requests, and they provided information about their food preferences and their level of walking ability. When we met on the day, I presented the itinerary again, the guests happily agreed, and we started the tour. One of the guests had already downloaded the Suica app to their smartphone, while for the other guest I had them purchase a Toei & Metro combined one-day pass. One of the guests was a big fan of a Major League Baseball team, and one of the guests was originally from another region. As mentioned in the advance information, one of the guests had some difficulty walking, but they kept saying "I'm fine" while walking. It took about 40 minutes to reach our first destination, Meiji Shrine, but despite likely jet lag, they listened enthusiastically. We were lucky to see a procession of a bride and groom holding a Shinto wedding ceremony, along with their family. In Shibuya, after showing them the Hachiko statue and the scramble crossing, the guests requested to buy throat lozenges because their throats felt dry. We purchased them at a pharmacy right beside the crossing. One of the guests also stopped by a souvenir shop next to the pharmacy (the other guest waited at the planting area beside the crossing). Showing me and the shop staff a character on their smartphone, they said they wanted to buy goods of that character if available, so together with the staff we chose the items and they purchased five character goods. Because we were moving at a slow pace, I judged that we could visit only one more place, and when I asked one of the guests whether they would prefer Tsukiji Market or the East Gardens, the answer was Tsukiji Market. At Tsukiji, I guided them while explaining the ingredients and restaurant menus that came into view. Along the way, at a souvenir shop, both guests purchased shopping bags with a Japanese motif (¥2,000 each). By that time it was the moment to part ways, so I guided them to the taxi stand in front of Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple and we said goodbye with smiles.

Hi! I’m a local guide in Tokyo and have been working as a licensed tour guide for almost 10 years. I love helping guests discover the “real Japan” beyond the guidebooks. I enjoy showing guests both famous sights and places that many tourists miss. My tours are based on your interests and can include not only famous sightseeing spots, but also local neighborhoods, culture, history, and everyday life in Japan. I also help guests enjoy Japanese cultural activities and make communication easier. If you’d like vegan or gluten-free meals, let me help you find suitable restaurants in Tokyo. If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please feel free to let me know in advance. I look forward to showing you around Tokyo!

What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Hamarikyu, Nezu Museum, and Asakusa The guests were visiting Japan from Europe, having arrived only the night before. To save time, we took a taxi to Hamarikyu Gardens. At Hamarikyu, we enjoyed the tidal pond, the duck hunting grounds, and the field of cosmos flowers. The fragrance of the fragrant olive (kinmokusei) seemed to be especially appreciated. The guests were a very warm and pleasant group. Afterward, at their request, we visited the Nezu Museum. There was an exhibition of unglazed stoneware ceramics on display, and since one of the guests had been practicing pottery for over ten years, they viewed it with great enthusiasm. They also said the garden was very beautiful. We then went to Asakusa to see Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise, and offered prayers at the main hall. After the tour, the guests planned to visit Skytree, so I took them to the ticket gate of the Skytree Line and ended the tour there. As their wifi was not connected, I recommended taking a taxi for their return. The guests were very interested in Japanese culture, planning to see kabuki on Sunday and then travel to Kyoto and Okinawa. It was a wonderfully sunny and pleasant day.

Title: What Can You See on a 4-Hour Private Kyoto Tour from the Station? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of friends visiting Japan on a cruise. On the day, they had traveled by rail from Kobe to Kyoto, and the meeting was set for 11:30 AM in the lobby of the Hotel. Since they had already arrived by 11:15 AM, we confirmed whether the final tour ending point should be Gion, Nijo Castle, or To-ji Temple before starting the tour. In the end, we decided on Kyoto Station as the ending point, and after showing them the location of To-ji Temple on a map, the tour concluded. Within the four hours, including travel time, the guests enjoyed visiting Sagano and Kinkaku-ji Temple.

What Is a Private Cultural Tour in Japan Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were first-time visitors to Japan from North America. They chose this trip to Japan because they were interested in Japanese culture and cuisine. During their travels, they planned to enjoy various activities such as a Japanese sword-making experience and a sake brewery experience. Some of the guests already remembered the name of Oda Nobunaga and had a little understanding of Japanese history, which made it easy and enjoyable for me to expand on the conversation as a guide. The guests were also very interested in Japanese food and occasionally stopped by food stalls at the places we visited. The group thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

Title: What's a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Shibuya, and Anime Spots Body: Since it was the guests' first visit to Japan, they wished to spend a full day seeing various parts of central Tokyo and wanted to have ramen for lunch. With that in mind, we set a rough plan to visit an old district, a newer district, and a garden, and set off on foot. In Asakusa, we walked past the portable shrines (mikoshi), Nakamise shopping street, Senso-ji Temple, and Asakusa Shrine, and the guests were delighted to recognize many things they had seen in anime. While talking about the history of Edo, we went from Asakusa to Ueno, passing through Ueno Park and Shinobazu Pond before heading to Shibuya. As we talked, I learned that what they really wanted to see were the real-life locations featured in anime, so at Shibuya Station we explored the settings of their favorite anime. On the way from Shibuya to Harajuku, we looked for the Ichiran shop they had hoped to visit, but every location had a two-hour wait, so we gave up on it. We had crepes on Takeshita Street and finally had a late lunch at Ippudo in Harajuku. From Harajuku Station we took the JR line to Shinjuku Station and strolled through Shinjuku Gyoen. Because of tiredness, we decided to skip another anime location the guests were especially fond of, and I guided them to the National Diet Building near their hotel before parting ways in front of the hotel a little earlier than planned. The guests made great use of Google Maps and helped me out from time to time along the way.

What's a Private Kyoto History and Culture Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, and this was a first visit to Japan for one of them. The day before, they had explored scenic spots on their own, including the bamboo grove in Arashiyama, so today they asked to hear more about Japanese history and culture. They had many questions, such as the relationship between the shogun and the emperor in Japanese history, why the capital needed to be relocated, strolling pond gardens, dry landscape (karesansui) gardens, and the meaning of zazen and viewing such gardens. I answered these questions and thought it would be another day of drawing on all my knowledge, but it turned out to be more relaxed than that. The guests were cheerful and quick to laugh at small jokes, and the conversation jumped from topic to topic so often that I sometimes lost track of where we were. During lunch the conversation eventually turned to politics — whether the new party president would become the next prime minister and whether Japan might see its first female prime minister, what expression Trump might make and what he might say in that case, and even the policies of President Trump. Talking politics with guests is usually taboo, but when you spend a whole day together you gradually become friendly, and I often end up discussing politics with guests from North America. It gives me a real sense of how deep the disappointment is regarding the current political situation there. One of the guests worked at a library and had a wealth of knowledge about books, so at the end of the tour they recommended several paperbacks to me before we said goodbye. It was an enjoyable day full of conversation.

Hello, this is Kazu Akiyama, your tour guide. Nice to meet you and welcome to Japan. Thank you for joining me on the tour. Now I am a retired salaried worker, living in Osaka. I have been very much interested in not only learning Japanese history, culture, religion myself, but also talking about them (sometimes going off topics) in English with tourists from all over the world as well. I am so excited being with you as your guide on coming day! I am very much looking forward to you enjoying with me visiting the must-see places and some of the hidden gems. See you soon. Thank you – Kazu Akiyama

What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Ginza The representative of the group was a Japanese guest currently living in Asia, and the group had decided to travel in Japan together with guests from North America. The group consisted of guests including one who could also speak Japanese, and I mainly provided explanations in English toward the guests from North America. Although the East Gardens were closed that day, we started the tour from Tokyo Station in line with their wish to see the Imperial Palace. Since the guests were interested in history, I explained things at slightly greater length. At Tsukiji, considering the size of the group, I took them to the annex of "Sushizanmai," just as on the previous day. Conversation among the guests was lively, so we ended up staying here longer as well. After guiding them around Asakusa, I had planned to conclude at Ueno Park, but since one of the guests suggested showing the others the Kabukiza Theatre and Ginza, we got off at Higashi-Ginza Station as on the previous day and walked from the Kabukiza Theatre to Ginza. Finally, after showing them the location of JR Yurakucho Station, we ended the tour in Ginza.

I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.

What Does a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo from Asakusa Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Tokyo. Since they wished to start the tour from Asakusa, I designated the front of the easily recognizable Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center as the meeting point. Although the tour began in Asakusa, the guests did some shopping at a handmade wallet shop along the way, so the time spent in Asakusa ended up being quite long. At Tsukiji, we had lunch at an annex of a sushi restaurant that can relatively easily seat larger groups. Since many of the guests were interested in Ginza, we got off at Higashi-Ginza Station and I guided them around, including the Kabukiza Theatre. After strolling through the East Gardens, the guests wished to go their separate ways, so we parted in front of the Otemon Gate.

Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like for Guests Who Move at a Slower Pace? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting from North America. Despite finding walking difficult, the group had tremendous enthusiasm for travel and said they wanted to visit every spot on the day's itinerary. In particular, they said they wanted to photograph the Yasaka Pagoda at sunset, and they waited ready with their camera. Although they moved slowly, they visited all the spots they had hoped to see, which meant the tour ran considerably over the scheduled time. Even so, they seemed to enjoy themselves, and I was very glad about that.

What Is a Family-Friendly Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji and Kiyosumi Garden The guests were a group visiting Tokyo from North America. They had been planning to visit Japan since before the pandemic, and they were delighted to have finally made it. Since the group was traveling with a very young child, it took extra effort to find diaper-changing spaces, prepare milk, and locate elevators, but I was glad to help make their family trip enjoyable. (Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple and the Fukagawa Edo Museum have diaper-changing and nursing spaces, which are very convenient for those traveling with a baby.) The group loved the tuna at a sushi restaurant in Tsukiji and even learned the Japanese words "otoro" and "chutoro" for the fatty cuts. At Kiyosumi Garden, they were amazed by the colors and sizes of the stones and took many photos of the soft-shelled turtles and carp. I was relieved that they were satisfied with the quiet Japanese garden. On the way back, we parted at Kiyosumi-shirakawa Station on the Oedo Line. They had become comfortable using a digital Suica and said they wanted to explore Tokyo on their own starting the next day.

I’m YUMI. Japan is full of history, nature and culture. I would like to talk about them from many aspects. When you have some questions, don’t hesitate to ask me. There’re many off the beaten paths in Japan. If you want to walk in a hidden local area, I’ll tailor the special course as you wish.
Experiencing new foods is also one of many intriguing things during your trip. I would recommend anything from street foods such as Ramen, Yakitori to authentic Sushi or elegant courses. My policy is to cherish your feelings and time. Let’s enjoy talking and walking with me!
