    What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Tokyo for a couple of days before returning home to North America, having just finished a cruise trip. There had been an advance request to visit the Imperial Palace, the Yushukan Museum, and a war memorial resource center, but on the morning of the tour the guests also expressed a wish to visit the Tokyo National Museum, so in the end I guided them to three of these places, excluding the resource center. For the first few hours one of the guests appeared somewhat reserved and stern, but as they grew more relaxed they smiled more often, and by the end they were delighted and said they had enjoyed it very much. It was a very warm, spring-like day.

    What Can You See on a Private Nagoya Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Shrine The guests were visitors from North America who were traveling while also visiting friends living in Nagoya, and they showed a strong interest in Japanese culture. At Nagoya Castle, they were especially fascinated by the lavishness of the interior of Honmaru Palace and by the massive stones used in the castle's stone walls. They enjoyed the calm atmosphere of the Oasis 21 area despite its location in the heart of the city. At Atsuta Shrine, they took great interest in the Kokoro-no-Komichi path with its sacred atmosphere around the main hall, as well as the exhibits at the treasure hall and Kusanagi-kan. Although they had already visited the Nagoya Touken (Sword) Museum, I believe they also enjoyed viewing the sword exhibits at the Kusanagi-kan at Atsuta Shrine.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was fine, almost hot, so I guided without a jacket or sweater. At Asakusa I explained about Buddhism and other topics, but I gradually realized that the guests' interest was in food, so I also introduced various shops. As planned, we exchanged the Japan Rail Pass and obtained reserved seat tickets at Ueno Station, and at that time it turned out that on the way back they would travel from Osaka via Tokyo Station to take the Narita Express, so we went from Akihabara to Tokyo Station and I showed them around inside the station. Since it looked like we would have quite a bit of extra time, I also gave a quick tour of the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, where the cherry blossoms were partly in bloom. I guided them from Harajuku's Takeshita Street to the Ura-Harajuku area as well, and finally led them from the department store food floor in Shibuya to the Scramble Crossing, where the tour ended. I received a tip.

    Title: What Is a Private Okayama Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Korakuen and Okayama Castle The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. Even after some days had passed since arriving in the middle of Japan's winter from the height of summer in Oceania, managing their health seemed to be a challenge. They mentioned that temperatures in their home region can reach 40 degrees, so it gets as hot as Japan, but because the humidity is low, there is far less risk of heat stroke than in Japan. This group has traveled all over the world and has a particularly deep connection with Asia, having recently visited Vietnam, Cambodia, and even Laos. One of the guests had previously stayed in Yangon, Myanmar for about a year teaching English. In addition, they had studied Japanese as a second foreign language during their elementary school years and kindly demonstrated some of it for us. It felt very positive to see travelers with such a broad and open outlook, and it is encouraging that more people like this are visiting. This tour began at Korakuen Garden. At the crane enclosure that I introduced first, several red-crowned cranes seemed to be waiting for us, and as we arrived they looked up to the sky and called out. This does not happen very often, and it felt like a moment of connection with the animals, which delighted everyone. We then took our time exploring the garden. The plum blossoms were in full bloom, and the somewhat rare wintersweet in the garden was giving off a lovely fragrance. I always make a point of introducing flowers characteristic of Japan such as plum, daphne, cherry, and fragrant olive according to each season. In addition, the lawn burning had been carried out just a week earlier, and even the scent of the scorched grass remained. I was also able to explain the straw wrapping on the pine trunks that would soon be removed and burned. It was very meaningful to be able to appreciate these seasonal traditions. As we strolled through the garden, a local volunteer guide approached us and offered some additional explanations. After leaving Korakuen, we headed to Okayama Castle. The guests carefully walked through the historical accounts of the Ukita, Kobayakawa, and Ikeda families, who survived the turbulent Warring States period and the Edo period. Afterward, I guided them to a reasonably priced tofu restaurant called "Okabe" in Okayama. They thoroughly enjoyed the food itself, but due to the waiting time, I came to think that in the future, when time is limited, it would be better to choose another place, specifically one of the restaurants inside Okayama Station. And so, although it was hard to say goodbye at the end, I was able to see them off safely at Okayama Station.

Tea Ceremony, Asakusa, and the Imperial Palace [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private Tokyo tour for a guest visiting from Europe, and the guest thoroughly enjoyed the day. This was the guest's second visit to Japan, having arrived early in the morning on the day of the tour. Through email exchanges beforehand, the guest expressed a wish to visit places not seen on the previous trip and to experience Japanese culture, specifically requesting to: (1) try a tea ceremony experience, (2) purchase a handmade premium kitchen knife, (3) experience the Samurai Museum, and (4) visit a famous Tokyo landmark not yet visited. For request (1), I made a reservation in advance at a tea ceremony venue in Ginza. For requests (2) and (3), I had scouted the area in advance, and since everything could be completed in Asakusa, I took the guest there. For request (4), at the guest's wish, I guided them to the plaza in front of the Imperial Palace, which they greatly enjoyed. The day was blessed with fine weather and a spring-like climate, and the guest deeply appreciated Japanese culture while learning about Japan's history and traditions. The guest was also delighted to purchase the desired handmade premium kitchen knife.

    Let me introduce myself. I was born in Hayama, a beach resort area, Kanagawa prefecture, south of Tokyo. And I’m now living in Saginuma, Kawasaki city.
    When I was a university student, I had the opportunities of doing a home stay with a family In U.S.A., Australia, and England, as a youth exchange student.
    After graduation from the university, I started working at American Life Insurance Company, Japan (Alico, Japan), which is a group member company of AIG, now MetLife Insurance Company. I could have a chance to visit the head office and the field offices of U.S.A., Wilmington in Delaware, New York, Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale in Florida, Los Angeles, while I was working for Alico, Japan (Now, MetLife Insurance company).
    I had been working for MetLife Insurance Company for about 38 years, in total.
    After retiring from the life insurance company, I started working as a tour guide, because I wanted to become a tour guide to introduce culture, history, and manners and customs of Japan in English. It’s so different between my previous job and the guide business, but I like guide business a lot.
    I can meet so many people from all over the world and the guide business has been thriving after the pandemic.
    I have implemented the tour over 240 times, introduced Japan to more than 4900 tourists from 54 countries.

    Not only Tokyo, but I have experienced touring around Nikko, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji & Hakone area, Takayama, Kanazawa, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima, etc. which are all very famous as a tourist spot in Japan.
    If you go on a tour in Tokyo, you must see and visit Asakusa Sensoji Temple which is the oldest Buddhist Temple in Tokyo with histories and Nakamise Shopping Street where you can buy the souvenirs and try to taste Japanese sweets, such as doll cake which is the sponge cake in various shapes filled with red bean paste and Japanese powdered tea ice cream. Another my recommendation in Tokyo to visit is Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya. Meiji Shrine is one of the biggest shrines in Japan with quiet and peaceful atmosphere and magnificent site.
    Harajuku and Shibuya are both fun to visit for shopping and experience the Shibuya Crossing.
    I usually propose my tentative itinerary and ask if my plan is all right with the customer or not. My hobby is traveling around Japan and foreign countries and going to the gym for exercise.
    I would like to work as a guide as long as possible if I’m in good health and my legs are strong, because I love this job.
    I put my importance on the mind of OMOTENASHI which means sincere hospitality, though safety during the tour takes precedence, number one priority, before anything else.

Before coming to Kyoto, they had traveled to Tokyo and Hokkaido (the Sapporo Snow Festival). This was a sightseeing tour using a private car. At Fushimi Inari, they walked with a cane while also using an elevator. At the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and Kinkaku-ji, they toured using the electric wheelchair. In the morning some of the guests seemed sleepy, but they became more energetic around Arashiyama, and after enjoying some favorite sweets at lunch, they became very lively. The guests said this day's lunch was the best they had had since arriving in Japan. Because lunch ran longer than planned, Gion was viewed from the car window. The photo was taken at Fushimi Inari. The accommodation was a hotel. The guests contacted me two days beforehand after noticing a booking detail that needed correcting.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, and Meiji Shrine The weather was fine and it was a warm day. Some of the guests had Suica cards, but since one did not, we started by purchasing a 24-hour subway pass at the station. In Asakusa, the guests enjoyed eating mochi and other treats. At both Asakusa and the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, there were early-blooming cherry blossoms, and the guests took photographs. Today we were able to see the long-finned nishikigoi carp at the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, which I was glad to show them. At Meiji Shrine, there was a wedding ceremony taking place, and we were able to catch a glimpse of it. Overall we ran a little behind schedule, and the tour ended after I guided them to the entrance of Takeshita Street.

    What Can You See on a Private Tsukiji, Nezu, and Meiji Shrine Walking Tour in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from North America. Through email exchanges beforehand, we settled on visiting Tsukiji, Nezu Shrine, Yanaka, Meiji Shrine, and Shinjuku Kabukicho, and after confirming once more in the morning we began the tour. What the guests enjoyed most today was being able to see wedding brides and grooms three times in a row — at Tsukiji Honganji, Nezu Shrine (where we could even take photos of colorful uchikake wedding kimono), and Meiji Shrine. Since we had already seen weddings at Tsukiji and Nezu, I said "You are very lucky, and good things may come in threes," and it turned out exactly that way, which delighted the guests. At Tsukiji Honganji, other visitors seemed to be holding back and not approaching the altar because of the wedding preparations, but when I asked the temple staff, they said "The ceremony itself hasn't started yet, so it's perfectly fine. Photos are welcome too," so we were able to go all the way inside. At the market they enjoyed tuna nigiri and mitarashi dango, and the mitarashi sauce was a particular favorite. Unusually for guests, they had not experienced "matcha" or "sake," so one of them tried matcha at Nezu and sake in Golden Gai, both of which received high praise. At Nezu Shrine, both of them bumped their heads on the red torii gates while passing through, but had fun and took photos. For lunch, there were five groups waiting at a restaurant, but we were told the terrace seats were immediately available, and since the weather was fine and warm we decided right away, and both of them finished the ginger pork set meal that I recommended. Finally, a bar in Golden Gai that I occasionally visit (on the second floor of the fourth street) happened to be open, so we stopped by. They serve customers without a table charge from Thursday to Sunday between 15:00 and 18:00 (today there was a complimentary Japanese tea service), which may be useful for future guiding. Thinking it was the end of the day, I decided to have a beer, and since I have a low tolerance for alcohol my face turned bright red, which made the guests laugh as always — perhaps it is unusual. We were able to talk about a wide range of topics, including education-related matters, employment prospects for university students, and running a bar in Shinjuku, and at the end the guests said, "Today was a lot of fun. Thank you," and we parted at the ticket gate of Shinjuku Station on the Marunouchi Line. Blessed with good weather, it was a delightful day.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Before a Cruise? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of friends from North America. They were spending a day sightseeing in Tokyo just before departing on a 10-day cruise from Yokohama Port two days later. In line with their prior requests, the tour began at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. Although it was a weekday morning and the crowds were relatively light, they had been looking forward to visiting this spot and took many photographs. Next, wishing to see traditional Japanese life, they went to Nezu. At Nezu Shrine, I explained the differences between temples and shrines, the origins of Shinto, and its influence on Japanese culture. Since they planned to visit various temples and shrines during their cruise, they said this background knowledge was very helpful. Afterward, at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, they seemed surprised by the large crowds and the many people dressed in kimono, and they appeared to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the area. For lunch, they enjoyed okonomiyaki, and although they had tried many Japanese dishes before, they said this was a flavor they were experiencing for the first time. Since they would also be visiting Hiroshima later, I recommended they try it again there. Finally, they enjoyed shopping at UNIQLO in Ginza before returning to Yokohama, where their hotel was located.
