    Title: What Is a 4-Hour Private Nagasaki Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I had thought that since we would only visit two sites during the 4-hour tour, we might finish quickly. However, the guests asked such enthusiastic questions that we used the full 4 hours. After I gave a general explanation of Oura Cathedral, there were many thought-provoking questions, such as "How did the Christian faith come to be recognized?" and "Why were the 26 Martyrs killed?" Since the guests seemed interested in the current situation in the Middle East and in religious conflict, I guided them through the "Triangle Zone of Prayer" and shared that Nagasaki offers one example of how different religions can coexist. At Glover Garden as well, there was a question: "Why did the samurai and Glover have a connection?" Since I personally love the late Edo period and the Meiji Restoration, I spoke about that in detail.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kanazawa Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kenrokuen and Kanazawa Castle The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. Since there was time before the hotel shuttle bus to Kanazawa Station departed at 09:15, we reviewed the day's itinerary again. The local travel agency's instructions were consistently to visit Higashi Chaya District, Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle, and the Nagamachi Samurai District. However, since the guests had already visited the Nagamachi Samurai District on their own the previous day, I confirmed with them that we would keep Higashi Chaya District brief—explaining it so they could visit it on their own in the afternoon—and instead spend more time carefully exploring Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden before starting the tour. At the end of the tour, the guests wished to experience matcha at Gyokusen'inmaru Garden, and we concluded the tour there.

    What Is a Private Himeji Castle Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe, and everything went smoothly. At each spot, they listened attentively to the guide's explanations. Communication in English was somewhat challenging at times. The guests appeared to enjoy photography and were eagerly taking pictures at every spot. At Himeji Castle, the guests discovered marks engraved on several of the castle wall stones that the guide had never noticed before (possibly marks left by the quarry sites or the stone-handling contractors), which will be valuable material for the guide's future explanations. (Many guests are likely to be very interested in spots like this.) At Sosha Shrine, they showed interest and experienced worshipping there. A nearby shop selling handmade beckoning cat figurines, which we stopped by before visiting Himeji Castle today, was closed. Since the guests really wanted to visit, we stopped by again on the way back, and they purchased a handmade "beckoning cat" and seemed very satisfied. I gave them a handmade drawstring pouch, which they were delighted to receive, and in return the guests gave me some unusual chocolate. Today's guests were very pleasant and friendly, and I am grateful!

    I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
    real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
    if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

    Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
    that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
    and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania who had arrived in Hiroshima the previous afternoon and planned to go to Miyajima the next day. I had arranged for a taxi to come to the front of the Hotel, but the driver got lost and our departure was delayed, for which I felt very sorry. The museum was crowded, but it was moving to see the guests view each exhibit slowly and earnestly, with tears in their eyes. They said it was wonderful that so many people come to the museum to learn. The weather was fine, and we took our time going around the monuments in the park, where they took many photographs. We had planned to visit Hiroshima Castle if there was time, but we were unable to, so I gave them pamphlets and maps. Finally, I guided them to the hypocenter before we said goodbye.

    • 8:40 Meet the guests. Since I had not been able to contact the guests up to this point, I confirmed basic information. It turned out that their agent had not conveyed any of my messages. The itinerary the agent had arranged on their own included the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, which is closed on Fridays, but they said they would leave the destinations up to the guide, so we first headed to Shimbashi Station to get a SUICA. This was their third time in Japan and they said they were confident in walking since they had done the Kumano Kodo before, so I set an itinerary centered on walking.
    • 9:15 Hamarikyu. After a stroll, walked to Tsukiji
    • 10:10 Tsukiji Outer Market
    • 10:35 Namiyoke Shrine
    • 10:45 While resting on the rooftop of the outer market, I asked about their future schedule. Tomorrow they would go to Nikko from Tobu Asakusa Station, the day after to Hakone, and so on. So on the way to Asakusa after this, we would confirm the location of Tobu Asakusa Station, and also exchange and activate the JR Pass at Tokyo Station or somewhere, and return each of the vouchers to the hotel.
    • 11:45 Hotel lobby. It turned out that neither the JAL, nor Hakone, nor even next week's Kyoto accommodation vouchers were included. I had the hotel WiFi used to contact their agent, but since the pre-purchased SIM was not working, it would be a problem if trouble occurred somewhere without WiFi, and so on. I ended up spending the rest of today helping to resolve the problems for tomorrow onward.
    • 12:05 Shimbashi Station
    • 12:00 Tokyo Station. After showing them the location of the Shinkansen ticket gate, when we tried to exchange the JR Pass at the JR Cafe, it newly turned out that there were 15 days from the day they leave Tokyo to the day they return, so it could not cover the entire itinerary, and so on. Helped arrange tickets to Takayama for the day after tomorrow.
    • 13:20 Purchased and set up a new SIM at Yamada Denki
    • 13:45 Lunch at Gransta Tokyo
    • 14:45 After taking a commemorative photo at the SK Plaza of Shimbashi Station, we parted ways at the hotel.

    Title: Can a Private Guide Help with Itinerary Problems? A Tokyo Tour Report Including Hamarikyu and Tsukiji At Hamarikyu Gardens, the guests were very intrigued by the explanation of the duck hunting grounds. Since it was still a bit early for lunch at Tsukiji, they said they would come back another time, and at that point they were relaxed, planning to see an exhibition at the Kabukiza Theater afterward and then visit the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, which they had missed on their previous visit to Japan. However, as I asked about their upcoming schedule, it gradually became clear that the itinerary arranged by the travel agency was poorly put together—for example, a day trip to Nikko and sightseeing in Hakone followed by an overnight stay in Takayama, all without any explanation, and with no vouchers attached. In the end, the guests were even more grateful for the time I spent helping to resolve these problems.

    If you are interested in hidden gem, here are some examples;

    Kawasaki, located between Tokyo and Yokohama near Haneda Airport, is the second station of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido, the 400 years old highway towards Kyoto from Edo (old name of Tokyo). You can do Hand-cut glass experiment, stopping at a bar for sake tasting, visiting Kawasaki-Daishi temple that receives 3 million worshippers in the new year period.

    Another spot is Echigo-Yuzawa in Niigata prefecture, 75 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen train. Echigo-Yuzawa is “Onsen” (hot springs) town. You can enjoy visiting Sake brewery, skiing in winter, veiwing Sakura (cherry blossom) in spring. Appreciation of contemporary art displays in open air and old carvings at temples, in neighboring towns will be also memorable experience.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private 6-Hour Architecture Tour of Shibuya and Omotesando in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from Europe. They were originally assigned a 4-hour tour, but at their request I changed it to a 6-hour tour and was happy to accommodate them. They were scheduled to join a group tour starting on a weekday and had arrived a few days earlier to sightsee at the places they wished to visit on their own. The guests were fond of architecture, and during our correspondence beforehand they sent me a list of places they wanted to see, from which I selected destinations and created an itinerary. They seemed mainly interested in buildings with green walls and rooftop gardens. I guided them to Shibuya Scramble Square, Shibuya Stream, Miyashita Park, Harakado, Omotesando Hills, and other spots. Since we walked from Miyashita Park to Harakado, I also introduced the Tadao Ando public restroom that we passed along the way. They mentioned they wanted to see Taro Okamoto's "Myth of Tomorrow," so I guided them there, and we had a late lunch at Mark City. One of the guests took photos here and there with a Canon single-lens reflex camera. Since one of the guests could not download the mobile Suica, I helped them purchase a Welcome Suica at Shibuya Station. When I met the guests in the morning, they were so friendly that they greeted me with a hug, and it was a very enjoyable tour to guide. They told me, "Without you, we could never have seen so much in a single day," which made me very happy. Since they would be sightseeing on their own the next day, I explained the routes, created an itinerary for the following day, and sent it to them via a messaging app. I had only one week from the time of assignment, so there were some areas where my preparation fell short, but I believe they were satisfied. My walking pace may have been a little fast, so I would like to be mindful of that next time.

    What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan from Europe as part of a longer trip, with Hakone as their final destination. They seemed to have picked up some Japanese here and there along the way; at the Hakone Open-Air Museum, when I said "persimmon" for the fruit, they replied with the Japanese word "kaki." The guests were energetic and quick on their feet, and thoroughly enjoyed the nature of Hakone. At Maruyama Bussan, they bought a traditional puzzle box as a souvenir for their grandchild. At the Hakone Open-Air Museum, there were many works by French artists, which delighted them. Since I had never looked at the collection carefully myself, it was the first time I realized just how many there were. At the donburi restaurant, soba noodles were being freshly made, and the guests eagerly took photographs. Finally, the view of Mount Fuji today was absolutely perfect — so much so that I wished I could have saved some of it for another day.

    Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Autumn Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. Their journey took them from Tokyo through Hakone, Takayama, and Kanazawa before arriving in Kyoto. After Kyoto they planned to continue to Hiroshima and then return to Tokyo before heading home. One of the guests brought an SLR camera and captured many beautiful landscapes in photographs. The autumn foliage at Kiyomizu-dera Temple seemed to be at its peak, while at Ryoan-ji Temple it felt like the best viewing time was still a little ahead. For lunch, I guided them to an Indian restaurant a bit early, which they greatly appreciated. In various spots, the fallen autumn leaves on the green moss were mostly brown, and vivid bright-red foliage was not so easy to find.

    What Can You See on a 6-Hour Private Kyoto Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were visitors from North America. The guests requested that we skip lunch and instead visit as many spots as possible within six hours, so I arranged the tour above. They took few photos and paid little attention to souvenirs, focusing entirely on the tour. The plan was to continue to Yasaka Pagoda after Kiyomizu-dera Temple, but the guests seemed to grow tired. Although we arrived at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, they said they did not have the energy to climb the stairs, so they decided to skip Kiyomizu-dera and return to their hotel by taxi. I hope they recover their energy.

    Title: What's a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo's Imperial Palace East Gardens and Ueno Park Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America, both making their first trip to Japan, having arrived two days prior. After spending a few days in Tokyo, their schedule included Kyoto the following week and Fukushima, where J-Village is located. Some of the guests were connected to a soccer refereeing role at J-Village during a sporting event, and the group planned to visit to watch. Later, other members of the family were scheduled to arrive at Haneda Airport, so the group planned to go there to meet them. In connection with this, there had been a prior request to explain how to get to Haneda Airport and how to buy tickets, as well as how to find the platforms and purchase tickets for JR long-distance trains. For sightseeing, I guided the group through the Imperial Palace East Gardens and Ueno Park. Along the way, to address the requests above, we visited the travel concierge counters at the Toei Subway Asakusa Station and JR Ueno Station, where I explained each point. There was also a request to know where groceries could be bought near the Hotel, so we finished at Matsuya Asakusa. I showed the group the prepared foods and grocery section in the basement, and we parted ways there.
