    What's a Private Day Tour of Miyajima and Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided the guests visiting from Oceania. We began the tour in a relaxed atmosphere, chatting about topics from their home region, such as the quokka, often called the world's happiest animal, and a newly built cricket stadium. As it was the start of the tourism season, a cruise ship had arrived in port, and many international visitors could be seen on Miyajima. When I guided the guests away from the busy main streets and through the maze-like back alleys, they were very interested and delighted. Since they planned to have okonomiyaki for dinner, for lunch they enjoyed a local specialty dish at a restaurant on Miyajima. At the Peace Park, they reflected deeply on the history of the atomic bomb, and it was striking to see them quietly contemplating their thoughts.

    But, already done Hiroshima & Miyajima tour more than 400 times.
    I traveled many countries in my younger days. I traveled Europe, US, China, India, US, Mexico, Peru Australia, NZ, and so on.
    I decided to use this experience to become a guide.
    I’m afraid but no tipping required, because cycling guides are not allowed to have tipping in my association. And you do not need to pay for my lunch, because my lunch is prepared by our group.

    What Can You See on a 6-Hour Evening Private Tour of Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting Kyoto. Initially, since it was early in their trip to Japan and they had just traveled from Tokyo to Kyoto, they asked to shorten the six-hour tour, but as they had recovered their energy, we proceeded with the full six hours as planned. Since it was their first visit to Japan, I guided them to the classic highlights: Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari, Hanamikoji, and the Yasaka Pagoda. As we had not set aside a specific dinner time, we planned to buy something from a street vendor along the way, but because the tour started at 15:00, many shops in Arashiyama were already closed and there were not many options. In the end, we had a light meal at a coffee shop in Gion-Shijo. Toward the end, the guests seemed tired, perhaps because of lingering jet lag, but there were also charms unique to the evening, as they were moved by the quiet atmosphere of Fushimi Inari, the lanterns hanging along Hanamikoji, and the illuminated Yasaka Pagoda.

    What Is a Private Hiroshima Peace Park Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. I introduced three restaurants near the Peace Memorial Park and let them choose based on their preferences. They enjoyed pizza at an Italian restaurant and were very satisfied.     Title: What Is a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was unfortunately cloudy and Mount Fuji was hidden behind the clouds, which was a shame, but otherwise everything went as planned and I believe the guests were satisfied. The guests were visiting from North America. They had come to Japan because one of the guests was participating in the Tokyo Marathon. Since we were on the topic of marathons, I mentioned the Hakone Ekiden relay race, and they became quite interested. Regarding the Hakone-zaiku woodwork souvenirs, one of the guests seemed to want to visit the production site in Hatajuku, but since there was not enough time, they decided to shop where we were. Maruyama Bussan next to the Hakone Checkpoint has the atmosphere of a factory-direct shop, so I believe the guests were pleased.

    What's a Private Onomichi Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania, arriving in Onomichi after traveling through Tokyo, Lake Kawaguchi, Kamakura, and Hiroshima. I heard it was an 18-day trip, with one night in Onomichi before continuing on to Kyoto and Osaka. The guest was a wonderful person who had just completed their training. At Shin-Onomichi Station, there is no downward escalator, and the elevator can only be used after asking a station attendant to unlock it. Although the overnight luggage looked quite heavy, the guest said "I'm fine!" and did not use the elevator, nor was it necessary to store the bags in advance at the Hotel or at Onomichi Station. The guest deeply loved cats, and thoroughly enjoyed playing with the cats along Neko-no-Hosomichi (the Cat Alley), as well as visiting cat-themed shops and galleries in the shopping arcade. When the guest said "I want to come back again," I was truly moved.

    What Is a Private Day Trip from Tokyo to Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. Their arrival at Kyoto Station was at 10:15, so we got off to a slightly late start. As this was a day trip from Tokyo and they had reserved a 16:30 bullet train for the return, the itinerary became quite tight. Traffic was relatively light and the roads were clear, so getting around was smooth, but since they took their time shopping, there was no longer time to go to a restaurant. With the driver's permission, we stopped at a convenience store early on during the drive from Kiyomizu-dera to Kinkaku-ji, and each of them bought rice balls, sandwiches, fried chicken, and the like, which we ate in the car. We arrived back at Kyoto Station at 16:05, and I had intended to leave time to buy food, but they said they would not buy any meal, so it seemed they planned to have dinner after returning to Tokyo. The schedule was very tight, but I was glad that we managed to visit all the destinations they wished to see without having to rush them too much.

    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour with a Licensed Guide Like? A Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama, and Fushimi Inari The guests came to Japan from North America. They had visited Japan nearly fifty years ago. Since the guests preferred a relaxed pace, I created an easygoing itinerary, made a point of walking slowly, and used elevators wherever they were available. Between JR Enmachi and Kinkaku-ji, I chose to take a taxi rather than a bus to save time and the guests' energy. At Kinkaku-ji, they were deeply moved by the magnificent scenery. At the Arashiyama bamboo grove, one of the guests became tired, so we turned back just past Ryoan-ji and took a short break at a coffee shop. Although both seemed a little tired, I was delighted when they said at the end of the tour that they had enjoyed it very much. The photo was taken at Fushimi Inari.

In their pre-tour communication, they had requested Tokyo Tower, Asakusa, and Shibuya, and mentioned that they were scheduled to join a go-kart tour starting at 5 PM that day. The Tokyo Tower admission tickets (for the guests only) were reserved in advance by the guests themselves, and I proposed the itinerary beforehand, which they gladly accepted. When we met at the hotel on the day, we reconfirmed the itinerary and began the tour (I had the guests purchase a combined Tokyo Metro & Toei Subway pass at the station). Despite having arrived in Japan at 8 PM the previous night (their flight had been delayed by several hours, partly due to circumstances in the Middle East), they were very excited. After Tokyo Tower, on our way to Daimon Station, I gave an exterior explanation of Zojoji Temple and introduced the statue of Commodore Perry. At Tsukiji Market, we enjoyed delicious sushi and tempura at a familiar sushi restaurant (I ordered a seafood rice bowl and paid separately). After that, we took a quick walk around the market, and the guests enjoyed some dessert time (strawberry daifuku and strawberry candy). They planned to revisit Tsukiji another day. Thinking that we might have a bit of extra time before Asakusa, I guided them through Kuramae and Komagata along the way. They were pleased that I led them on a route to Kaminarimon that avoided the crowds. After visiting Sensoji Temple, I guided them around the area near Yogo-in beside the main hall, the Nishi-Sando shopping street, Hoppy Street, Shin-Nakamise Street, and Rokku Street. On our way to Kappabashi Kitchenware Street, we stopped at a specialty shop for clear soy sauce originating from Kumamoto Prefecture, where the guests purchased several items (I also bought yuzu ponzu and wasabi oil, paying separately). While walking along Kappabashi Kitchenware Street, I introduced some recommended shops, and then we took the Ginza Line to Shibuya. Since the meeting point for the go-kart tour turned out to be near the Keio Inokashira Line, after arriving at Shibuya Station I explained where the Keio Inokashira Line Shibuya Station was and how to purchase tickets at the machines, and we parted ways with smiles and hugs at the Shibuya Crossing.

    What Is a 6-Hour Private Kyoto Tour Like by Public Transport? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. Although it was their first visit to Japan, they had done thorough research in advance and decided on the itinerary by discussing their preferred destinations with the guide via a messaging app. They initially had many places they wished to visit, but since we used public transportation, they understood that within a 6-hour range we could realistically cover only three to four locations, and we set off. When I asked about their lunch preference, they said they wanted to try the kind of curry rice that Japanese people eat, so I took them to a curry restaurant we found along the way, and they were very pleased. They had also strongly wished to visit Sanjusangendo, which inbound visitors do not often go to, and they were very delighted with it, so I believe they enjoyed a fulfilling day. Along the way, I also advised them on how to get to Kurama-dera, one of the places they hoped to visit during the rest of their stay in Kyoto, as well as how to purchase and board the Shinkansen from Kyoto Station to Tokyo, and I received words of gratitude.

    Since I completely retired from my position at a railway company and started being involved in the tour guide interpreter business, I have experienced almost all types of guiding through FIT, Long Group Tours, Cruises (Shore Excursions), Incentive Tours, Special Interest Tours (Railway Travel, Pilgrimages), Familiarization Tours (Sales Promotion Tours) etc.
    However, I noticed that I am not fully satisfied to only be a general guide who just manages a tour itinerary provided by tour agents/clients.
    High-end guests have sometimes requested me to answer some enquiries that are actually challenging to answer for Japanese nationals. However, I appreciated those because they provided such a challenge and I felt that they wanted to understand my sense of beauty/values as a guide concerning a new culture for them.
    Every time I host my guest I do my best to prepare the most appropriate information based on three travel elements (appetite, logistics, accommodation). Nevertheless, I decided to aim for higher guiding skills after I was motivated by senior guides whose guiding strategies and gestures were particularly impressive.

    What Does a Private Tokyo Tour with a Licensed Guide Look Like? A Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe, and it was their first time in Japan. After sightseeing in Tokyo, they planned to visit Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hakone. At Meiji Shrine, they appeared impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere, which was greatly different from Shibuya. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with interest to historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo shogunate. At Senso-ji Temple, they listened with interest to explanations about the differences between temples and shrines, as well as the Kaminarimon Gate. Since I accommodated the guests' wishes as requested, I believe they were satisfied.
