Can You Take a Private Day Tour of Iwase and Toyama? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. In Iwase, they enjoyed the beautiful views of Toyama Bay and the Tateyama mountain range from the Toyama Port Observation Deck. Afterward, they took great interest in the historic building of the Baba family shipping merchant house and the historic townscape of Iwase. For lunch, they visited a restaurant near Toyama Station, where one enjoyed a seafood rice bowl and the other had Himi udon, and both said the meals were delicious. In the afternoon, they enjoyed the beautiful views of the Tateyama mountains and a Starbucks at Fugan Canal Kansui Park. Since the guests had arrangements to attend to, we finished a little early and parted ways at Toyama Station.

I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures. I have also guided foreign people around Ishikawa Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, and Fukui Prefecture as an international activity of an English circle. I was a volunteer interpreter at the training camp for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021.

Hokuriku region has a lot of sightseeing spots as follows, beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, traditional crafts like Kaga Yuzen dyeing, Takaoka copperware, and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism such as Kurobe dam and industrial tourism.

I also work as a translator. I translated the Japanese firefly squid tourism pamphlet into English in 2020.

What Is a Private Kobe Tour Like for Guests with Limited Mobility? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were from Oceania. Because walking was difficult, we moved at a very slow pace. There were also frequent breaks and restroom stops, and we ended up spending far more time at the first spot than I have ever experienced before. Originally we had planned to visit one or two of the Western-style residences in the Kitano Ijinkan district, but as this proved difficult, we took a break for a light meal at a nearby Starbucks. After the break, when I went to meet the guests again, they told me that continuing the tour was no longer possible and that they wished to return to the cruise ship they were staying on, so we parted ways with about 45 minutes remaining. Incidentally, this Starbucks Kitano Ijinkan branch is the only building in Japan designated as an Important Tangible Cultural Property to house one. The English was quite difficult to follow, and spoken very quickly and continuously, so realistically I could only understand about 50 percent. I presented a handmade drawstring pouch made by my sister to one of the guests, who was very pleased and said it was a favorite color. I feel the guests were not fully satisfied today, and beyond that, as a guide, it became an incomplete tour that left me with a great deal of regret. Note) In my communication with the guests beforehand, I had gathered that walking might be a challenge, but I had not been informed that walking was physically difficult. I had also explained that Kobe is a "city of hills," recommended the use of a private car, and presented an itinerary for it, but in the end it was tentatively confirmed that we would use walking and public transportation. However, at the point of visiting the first spot, although the prior agreement was to use public transportation as usual, the guests requested to use a taxi, and I felt that walking would be extremely difficult for the guests. I conveyed this, but we started with the intention of "trying it once and seeing how it goes." As a point of reflection this time, I felt it is necessary to strongly recommend the use of a private car for guests who, for whatever reason, appear to find walking difficult during prior communication. Especially for Kobe tours, I think it is also necessary to emphasize that there are many slopes and stairs.

real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
explanation for these three foods.

1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour of Arashiyama and Nishiki Market Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. We walked at a relaxed pace, so we ended up spending quite a lot of time in Arashiyama, but I believe the stroll from the Tenryu-ji temple garden to the bamboo grove, and then from Arashiyama Park to the Togetsukyo Bridge, was leisurely and enjoyable without much crowding. They had eaten a hearty breakfast and said they did not need lunch, but we sat down for a while at Arashiyama Station and took a break with something cold to eat. Since we did not have much time, at Ninna-ji we entered only the Omuro cherry blossom area. The blossoms had already begun to fall considerably, but the guests were delighted to view the cherry blossoms up close. After that, we took a bus to Nishiki Market. Once we had walked through it, the tour concluded, and we parted just before Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine. The guests planned to walk back to their hotel, but just in case I also gave them directions by train. Note regarding admission to Ninna-ji: When I did a preliminary visit last week, I was told that guides also had to pay admission during the flower festival period. I confirmed by phone as well, just to be sure, and was again told that guides had to pay, so I was prepared to pay, but in the end it was free. The response differed depending on the staff member, which was a bit confusing.

Title: Can a Private Guide in Kobe Help Arrange a Dentist Visit? A Licensed Guide's Report I met the guests 30 minutes before the scheduled time. The guests were visiting from North America, and one of them had a toothache and asked me to help find a dentist. They had already looked up dental clinics themselves and called them, but were turned away by two clinics because they were fully booked and could not see them. We then tried calling a dentist in Akashi, thinking they might be able to accept the patient. A dental clinic near Akashi Station introduced a dentist specializing in root canal treatment in Sannomiya and also made a reservation by phone. Since the appointment was for 4:00 pm after the tour ended, I accompanied the guests to the clinic to interpret. The tour was extended, and the guests paid me on the spot.

Title: What Can You See on a Private Walking Tour of Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. Since the itinerary had not been decided until the day of the tour, I proposed a plan at the meeting point and we began from there. First, we walked to Shinjuku Gyoen and strolled through the garden. They were deeply impressed by the tranquility in the middle of the city and by the wide variety of trees and flowers. After that, I assisted them with purchasing a Suica card at Sendagaya Station, and we traveled to Harajuku by JR. At Meiji Jingu Shrine, I explained Japanese history, the differences between shrines and temples, and the connection to Emperor Meiji and the shrine. As we walked along the approach, I explained the sake barrels, the torii gate, and waka poetry, and we offered a prayer at the main hall. Afterward, on Takeshita Street, the guests showed interest in the animal cafes. The ramen we had for lunch was very well received. Next, we passed from Cat Street through Miyashita Park and reached the scramble crossing in front of Shibuya Station, took photos in front of the Hachiko statue, and the tour came to an end.

Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Kanazawa Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe on their first trip to Japan. Before the tour, they had requested to visit Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle Park, and the Nagamachi Samurai District, along with a meal at Ikiiki-tei in Omicho Market, so the tour was arranged accordingly. We were able to take our time exploring Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle Park. Along the way, the guests suddenly expressed a wish to purchase cutlery and Japanese souvenirs somewhere, so we adjusted the plan on the spot. They bought cutlery at a knife shop near Omicho Market. As there was not enough time to browse the various traditional craft shops in the Higashi Chaya District, they were able to purchase all their souvenirs together at Kanazawa Station Ant, where many of Kanazawa's main craft shops are concentrated, on the way to the Kanazawa Port Cruise Terminal. They were very pleased with this arrangement.

Who am I?
I am a Licensed Guide Interpreter at an age of 61.
I got an early retirement from 36 yrs of the employment in a Japanese financial sector.

They were wonderfully warm and cheerful people who were steady on their feet, and I was able to spend a truly enjoyable day with them as their guide. Since we had not exchanged many emails beforehand and no specific destinations had been decided, when we met in the morning we talked about the cherry blossoms and I learned that the bus meeting point for their trip to Lake Kawaguchi on Thursday was near the "Love" object, so I planned a route covering Meiji Shrine, Shinjuku, and Shinjuku Gyoen. We had a lively conversation about overseas trips we had each taken, including Machu Picchu, and it really is wonderful to share a common interest with the guests. We also found we had grandchildren of similar ages, and we agreed that we both end up exhausted when the grandchildren come to visit. On the tour, they were especially delighted by Omoide Yokocho and Golden Gai in Shinjuku, and one of the guests said with sparkling eyes, "This is lovely, we'll have to come back for yakitori and drinks," so they may well head there this evening. I introduced a few bars in Golden Gai. The 3D cat and Godzilla performances were just about to begin, so we waited a little to watch them, and they listened with interest to stories about touts and the rumors of the leaping figure. In front of the host club billboards in Kabukicho, I asked one of the guests, "Which one is number one?" and they gave a wonderful reply pointing to their companion, which made everyone burst out laughing. They enjoyed the atmosphere of Meiji Shrine as a forest in the middle of the city, though I got the impression they were somewhat more drawn to Hanazono Shrine in Shinjuku. At Shinjuku Gyoen, they thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese garden and the cherry blossoms in full bloom, and finally we headed toward the lunch spot. Since they had not done much research on Tokyo in advance, we obtained a guidebook at the Shinjuku Tourist Information center, and when I told them, "The staff here are very kind, so please come by if you need anything," the staff responded with a smile. There is also a map just outside the southeast exit, so I showed them the places we had walked that day, and they confirmed, "Ah, I see, so we went all the way around, and Golden Gai is here." We took a slight detour, but when we arrived at Shinjuku Umaya, I explained how to get to the Metropolitan Government Building and pointed out the south gate of JR Shinjuku Station, and we parted ways. Even while the restaurant staff were guiding them, they kindly turned around to wave and smile at me, which I greatly appreciated. It was a day of guiding filled with delightful conversation with truly wonderful guests.

What's a Private Walking Tour of Kobe Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. They had expressed a wish to see cherry blossoms, so I guided them to Nunobiki Herb Garden. Some cherry blossoms were still in bloom, and many other flowers were in full bloom as well, so the guests, who love flowers, enjoyed it very much. After hearing their wishes, we walked to Ikuta Shrine, passing through the Kitano Ijinkan foreign residences district and the town center. I explained how to worship at the shrine, and we paid our respects together. We walked to Port Tower, visited Meriken Park and Memorial Park, then returned to Chinatown. I showed them the shuttle bus stop for the Port Terminal, and we parted ways there. Since the guests were fond of golf, we talked about golf and looked at golf brand shops in town, and I believe they had an enjoyable time strolling around the city.

Title: What Can You Do on a Private Day Tour in Kochi? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. Until about a week before the tour there had been no response at all, but contact became possible just before the date. When I suggested a paper-making experience, the guests said that this was exactly the kind of special experience they had been hoping for, and they signed up for a handmade washi paper-making course at 10,000 yen per person. Because it was a private lesson for just the group, they were very pleased. For lunch, since one of the guests only eats fish, I had wanted them to try sashimi, but as I wanted to leave enough time for Kochi Castle, we had a quick meal at a local food-court style place. The guests also viewed Kochi Castle with great interest.

I was born and raised in Kochi city, and I worked for Kochi City Hall for nearly 30 years, so I think I know a lot about Kochi.

Firstly, I can guide you to the Kochi castle. Most castles you can find in Japan have been rebuilt after fires, wars, or natural disasters. However, Kochi Castle is one of the very few castles that still have the whole structure of its original tower and the mail palace from the Edo period (1603–1868). This makes it especially valuable for understanding Japan’s history and traditional architecture. You’ll like it!

Other major tourist sites are adventurous Ryugado limestone cave, Makino botanical garden, Chikurinji temple with historical stonesteps, Zenjibuji temple with the spectacular panoramic view, paper-making activity, Oboke gorge, Nakatsu gorge, Niyodo river with a historical bridge and so on.
If you like sake, you can visit sake brewery, and if you are interested in walking local streets, you can stroll my neighborhood.

Kochi is a small city, but it’s very popular among tourists for its beautiful nature and good food. I took my kids to rivers and mountains when they were little. If you are interested in those places, please ask me. And I know many good restaurants, too.
