    Can You Do a Private Family-Style Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe, who had arrived in Japan two days earlier. After staying in Tokyo for several days, some of the guests planned to fly home from Haneda Airport, while the others intended to travel on to Kanazawa, Kyoto, and Osaka before returning home. In advance emails, the guests asked for recommendations beyond the planned itinerary. Since some of them were interested in vintage shops, I created and sent a map with a suggested route around Shimokitazawa, which they were very pleased with. On the day, an unplanned visit to an Otter Café was added to enjoy time with the otters, so we skipped Sensoji Temple and moved to Ueno Park instead. One of the guests, who enjoyed photography, happily took photos of the cherry blossoms in full bloom and of the group smiling beneath the trees, using a digital camera popular among young people.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private Day Trip to Kamakura from a Yokohama Cruise Port? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who arrived in Yokohama by cruise ship in the morning and planned to enjoy sightseeing in Kamakura before returning home the following day. At Hokokuji Temple, the guests appeared deeply impressed by the beautiful bamboo grove. At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, they listened with great interest to explanations about the differences between shrines and temples and about the Kamakura shogunate. At Hasedera Temple, they were impressed by the large statue of Kannon, and at Kotokuin Temple they admired the Great Buddha. Since the guests mentioned that they had eaten a large breakfast and did not need lunch, I added a visit to Kenchoji Temple in place of the lunch break, where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom and greatly delighted them. As I responded according to the guests' wishes throughout the day, I believe they were satisfied.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? Tsukiji, Yanaka, Ueno, and Asakusa — A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group of guests from Europe, all of whom had arrived in Japan just the day before. We walked from the hotel to Hibiya Station and took the subway to the Tsukiji Market. At Tsukiji, rather than seafood, the guests preferred to enjoy items such as tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), meat dishes, and fruit, and they appeared to be enjoying the experience overall. Afterward, we took the subway to Ueno and then continued by JR to Nippori, where we visited Yanaka Ginza and Yanaka Cemetery. At Yanaka Cemetery in particular, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the guests showed great interest, taking many photographs. Since the guests expressed a wish to ride a boat at Shinobazu Pond, we changed the original plan and visited the Ueno area first. After taking the Yamanote Line to Ueno, we strolled around Ueno Park and Shinobazu Pond and guided them to the boat dock. However, due to time constraints, we did not actually take a boat ride and only confirmed the location of the dock, and the guests enjoyed some light refreshments from the food stalls. We then took the subway to Asakusa and toured Kaminarimon and Nakamise Street. The guests were impressed by the size of the large lantern at Kaminarimon and showed great interest in the wide variety of goods along Nakamise. As it was only the day after their arrival in Japan, some of the guests appeared tired, so although we had a little time to spare, we wrapped up the schedule early at the guests' request and parted ways. At each location, the guests showed strong interest and appeared satisfied overall. In particular, I felt they had a high level of interest in the unique culture and atmosphere of Japan, such as the Tsukiji Market and the Yanesen area.

    During my university years, I lived in a dormitory for four years and had the opportunity to live with many international students.
    Of course, we spoke English.
    After graduating from university, I started working as an English teacher at a junior high school.
    I was able to have a fun teaching life while interacting with many students. During that time, I continued to study English on my own and obtained the pre-1st grade English proficiency test.
    After that, I worked for the Board of Education as a supervisor in charge of English education, and then managed a school as a vice principal, and later principal.
    After retiring from teaching, I took the TOEIC (L&R) and achieved my highest score of 945.
    I also obtained a license as a national guide-interpreter, and began working as a guide for overseas visitors in English.
    Currently, I guide tourists to several places around the country.

    What Can You See on a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo's Imperial Palace, Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Akihabara? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. As the East Gardens were closed that day, we entered through Sakuradamon Gate and took in the view of Nijubashi Bridge. Early in the morning there were few people, making it ideal for group photos. The guests seemed more interested in the pine trees of the outer garden than in the bridge, and were delighted, saying they looked like bonsai. Since the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, we strolled along the western half of the outer perimeter of the Imperial Palace from Sakuradamon Gate. Every direction offered a continuous succession of wonderful scenery, and the guests were thrilled and took many photos. We covered the classic course of Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Akihabara, but at each stop we went over schedule taking commemorative photos and enjoying snacks. Having fully enjoyed the cherry blossoms around the Imperial Palace perimeter, we gave up on the planned visit to Ueno and focused only on Akihabara. Time passed as the guests became absorbed in anime goods and arcade games, and we reached the scheduled end time. Since everyone was a little tired from all the walking, we finished the tour by resting at a coffee shop.

    What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They were very energetic, having arrived the previous day and already gone to Shibuya right away. Asakusa was more crowded than expected, with congestion even from Exit A3, and Nakamise was extremely packed. I managed to keep moving while explaining along the way, but time kept slipping away. It was the final day of the spring public opening at the Imperial Palace. We took photo after photo while viewing the cherry blossoms in various spots within the East Gardens. The strong sunshine made it warm enough for short sleeves, and we looked for drinks, but many were sold out. It was more crowded than anticipated. Finally, we headed to Meiji Shrine. The crowds in Harajuku were also greater than expected, and at times I nearly lost sight of some of the guests. We ran out of time before reaching the main hall, so I guided them to the restaurant I had reserved, right at the scheduled end time. Since I had already explained about Meiji Shrine on the subway, I let them know they could take their time after their meal, and the tour came to an end.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shinjuku Gyoen, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine It was a somewhat warm and cloudy day, but no rain fell, so the tour proceeded smoothly. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the guests took many photos of the cherry blossoms, camellias, and the Japanese garden, and enjoyed their time there. Asakusa was very crowded as well, but the guests took many photos and had fun drawing omikuji fortunes. At Meiji Shrine, the guests seemed to appreciate the simple beauty of Japan, and I also received some questions about religion. During the tour, various topics came up, such as their home, where they were from, and their hobbies, and the tour proceeded in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. After Meiji Shrine, I guided them to the entrance of Takeshita Street, but as they preferred to avoid such crowded places, they returned to the Hotel and the tour ended. A tip was received.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private Full-Day Walking Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests had walked about 28,000 steps the previous day, which I was a little concerned about, but today they walked roughly 15,000 steps as well. They had mentioned that they had already seen the cherry blossoms the day before and did not need to see more, but as planned we arrived at Shinjuku Gyoen and strolled through the garden, and they still remarked, "It's beautiful, wonderful." Since the guests wanted to see an old, traditional part of downtown Tokyo, I guided them to Shibamata. Their reactions were not always very clear, so there were parts I could not fully read, but they seemed to enjoy the garden at Taishakuten. At Ueno they were surprised by the crowds. They also asked whether there were always this many food stalls, and I answered as appropriate. I believe they came to understand at least a little about Japan's cherry blossom viewing culture (though at Ueno it seemed that perhaps more than half of the people were visitors from abroad).

Even so, the guests were captivated by the beauty of the weeping cherry blossoms, the mimosa, and the peach blossoms at Shukkeien Garden. We wrapped up after about an hour and arrived at the Atomic Bomb Dome. The guests said, "This is why we came to Hiroshima, so please explain it thoroughly." I felt a little nervous, but I explained the path leading to the Pacific War, why the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and the true nature of the atomic bomb that was dropped. As I was explaining, although I had not been born yet, questions came up about family members who had been evacuated and their lives after the war. I also spoke about the daily life of an atomic bomb survivor I am close to, the rationing of those days, and the controls imposed by GHQ. The guests listened while nodding. When the guests remarked, "Trump is not popular in Europe," I said, "I try not to talk about political matters. But how can we create a world that values human life?" and we exchanged various opinions. When it was time to say goodbye, I said, "You were lucky the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. It seems it will rain tonight, but you were able to enjoy the blossoms before that," and the guests replied, "It was truly wonderful to see such beautiful cherry blossoms and to hear about Hiroshima in such detail."

    Title: What Is a Private Family Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shinjuku Gyoen, Takeshita Street, and Senso-ji The guests were a group who joined the tour together. Since they preferred a plant-based diet, I took them to a restaurant that could accommodate their dietary needs. As they planned to explore Tokyo on their own for the following few days, they asked me how to access some of the places we visited so they could return, and they asked for many recommendations. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom and the weather was beautiful, so the guests took many photos. Takeshita Street was a place chosen especially for one of the guests. They enjoyed trying gachapon capsule machines and bought some accessories. They mentioned they would like to come back for more shopping another day. Along Nakamise Street near Senso-ji, one of the guests searched for and purchased a sake tokkuri and guinomi cup set. Another of the guests enjoyed a strawberry candy. They were a very kind group, and at the end they said they wanted to do something in return, asking if there was anything they could do such as leaving a review, and mentioning they would like to request a guide when their friends visit.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Kimono and Asakusa Walking Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from North America. The tour began with a request to change the meeting point to a kimono rental shop in Asakusa, since the guests wanted to explore Asakusa while wearing kimono. They seemed to enjoy taking their time at each location, and I often helped with photography, while everyone enjoyed the different spots in their own way. At lunchtime, one of the guests began to feel discomfort in their toes from the traditional zori sandals and clearly did not want to walk any further, so I and another one of the guests went to the rickshaw stand at the rental shop and took a rickshaw to the lunch location. There, we switched passengers, and some of the guests rode the rickshaw back to the shop (a trial fare of 5,000 yen). After changing back into regular clothes, it was heartwarming to see everyone happily poking their heads through the holes of a white monument along the Sumida River for photos. At Sumida Park, the guests rested on the lawn while enjoying strawberry daifuku. They wanted to go to Kappabashi by taxi, so we walked to the taxi stand near Tokyo Skytree. Along the way, when I explained sumo at the Naruto stable, one of the guests amusingly asked, "Can I open the door and peek inside?" At Kappabashi, we entered a knife shop, where the guests were looking for something to cut vegetables. After trying out 7-8 knives with test cuts (using up all the daikon meant for test cutting), the one that felt best turned out to be expensive, so they chose based more on price than anything else. Since we spent quite a long time there, I talked a lot with the shop staff, and I was reminded that specialized knowledge is essential. Personally, it was an educational visit to the knife shop. Finally, there was a strong wish to see the illumination at Chidorigafuchi, so we took the subway there. Even though they had visited Shinjuku Gyoen and Shibuya Sky the previous day, this was their first time on the subway (they had traveled by taxi the day before), and one of the guests was delighted to finally ride it. I concluded the tour by introducing an Indian restaurant, Mumbai, recommended by the Indian Embassy, as a place for dinner. They were a calm and very close-knit group.
