Kanagawa in One Day: Owakudani & Hakone Shrine

    Tour Itinerary

    • 9:30 Meet at the hotel
    • 10:00 Owakudani
    • 11:00 Gora Park
    • 13:00 Hakone Shrine
    • 15:30 Tour ends at Motohakone Port

Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Hakone? A Licensed Guide's Report on Owakudani, Gora, and Local Crafts The guests were a group visiting from North America. Due to strong winds in Hakone today, we managed to reach Owakudani but there was no telling when the ropeway might suspend service, so we left promptly — and just after that, operations were indeed halted, so we narrowly avoided being stranded. From Owakudani, however, they were able to see Mount Fuji in perfect form, and they seemed extremely pleased. They also enjoyed trying the famous "black eggs" and were delighted by them. At the Craft House in Gora Park, they were thrilled with "Hakone marquetry (yosegi-zaiku)" and "pottery making," saying they would want to visit Japan again just for this experience alone. At Gora Shrine, I explained the background of Shinto, its influence on Japanese culture, and the manner of worship, and they actually performed a prayer themselves. They had already traveled through Osaka and Kyoto but had not fully understood the difference between temples and shrines, so they were very grateful, saying it was extremely helpful. In the afternoon, the strong winds grew even stronger, and even the pirate ship sightseeing boat suspended operations, so I saw the guests off to their hotel by taxi and concluded the tour.

    Hello and welcome to Tokyo!

I have been working for business with American companies for many years. I have many experiences guiding customers from around the world in Japan and taking Japanese customers to the USA and Europe.

I now have a national license as a guiding interpreter, and I want to introduce the unique gigantic city of Tokyo and the traditional Japanese culture, which is not shown in the guidebooks, to people worldwide who are interested in it. In addition, I want to introduce various Japanese foods you can enjoy only in Japan.
Unique experiences such as the Sumo Training Viewing and Tea Ceremony are optionally available.
Depending on your preference and itinerary, I can guide you in Tokyo, Kamakura, and Hakone so that you can enjoy your time in Japan.

Title: What Is a Private Kobe Sightseeing Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived early, so we started the tour ahead of schedule. They mentioned that they had been sightseeing around the Kansai region for several days in a row and were very tired. They also said that English is not widely understood in Japan, which made traveling somewhat difficult. Since the guests were visiting from North America, we began the tour with a visit to Meriken Park, then boarded a sightseeing bus and enjoyed a relaxed view of Kobe from the windows. As spring had arrived, we were able to see beautiful flowers at the herb garden, and the guests were very pleased. When I offered to make a dinner reservation in Chinatown, they said they would prefer to end the tour, so we finished earlier than originally planned.

Hello, my name is Mizuho Yoshikawa. Please call me Mizu and my name means rice and water in Japanese.
I’ve been a tour guide more than 200 times since the spring of 2023 in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Wakayama and Kochi. My tour is always original and new, depending on the guest’s preferences, encounters, seasons and weather.
In Kyoto, one of my tours is to climb Mt. Kurama. It is about 1 hour from the city of Kyoto by train, it is a very quiet and beautiful mountain.
In Osaka, which is called the kitchen of Japan, I am also in charge of food tour.
In Nara, in addition to the Great Budda Hall, I guide guests to the temple with a really great view and Japanese wine, sake tasting.
Every city has a unique charming point.
The motto of my guiding is ” Ichigo Ichie” Once in a lifetime or seize the day. I learn this concept that the moment will never be the same again through tea ceremonies.
I like a tea ceremony that is part of the traditional Japanese culture and embodies the spirit of “omotenashi” or hospitality. Through the tea ceremony, we can feel the spirit of “omotenashi” that has been passed down to us from ancient times.
And I like to travel abroad and domestically, and I have been to 13 overseas countries and most of the prefectures in Japan. Traveling always gives me a new perspective, which is exciting and thrilling. Nowadays, we can learn a lot from the Internet, but traveling teaches us that it is important to have direct experience. When I travel, I feel that my five senses are infinitely expanded, and through my tour, I help all guests to have the same feeling in Japan.
I was born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is next to Tokyo Prefecture in eastern Japan. When I was little, I could see Mount Fuji from my backyard. There was also a rice field nearby, and I grew up listening to the croaking of frogs. Listening to the frogs and seeing the mountains made me feel very calm.
I moved to the city of Kobe, one of the Kansai areas in western Japan, which includes Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and so on. I’m not from the Kansai area of western Japan, but I think that makes me sensitive to the differences between that area and the Kanto area, Tokyo, where I grew up.
Speaking of Kobe, you might be thinking of Kobe beef. Of course you do. There are also other sake breweries in Nada in Kobe. You can also go from Kobe city to Himeji Castle, also known as the White Egret Castle, which was the first in Japan to be listed as a World Heritage Site in 1993.
Let’s meet and enjoy Japan together!

What's a Private Tokyo Sightseeing and Shopping Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, and had visited Japan once before quite some time ago. We first went to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. The greenery was very beautiful, and they listened attentively to the historical explanations. They remarked that the Japanese garden was beautiful, and they also said the forest of Meiji Shrine was wonderful. Since the guests enjoyed shopping and wanted to visit a designer resale shop, we went to a store in Omotesando, where they purchased a bag. We had lunch at a nearby restaurant, and they seemed to enjoy it. As they wanted to buy skincare goods at Don Quijote, we went to the Don Quijote in Shimbashi. I explained the way back to their accommodation, and we parted ways. I believe they enjoyed the day.

What's a Private Walking Tour of Arashiyama in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private one-day walking tour of the Arashiyama area in Kyoto for a guest visiting from North America. The guest wished to explore the quieter parts of Arashiyama and stayed an extra day in Kyoto for this purpose, resulting in an itinerary that walked from Otagi Nenbutsu-ji to Tenryu-ji. At Otagi Nenbutsu-ji, the guest was very fond of the rakan statues and spent a long time taking photographs of them. At Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, where photography is permitted only in limited areas, the guest took beautiful photographs of the bamboo grove. Afterward, we passed through the Bamboo Grove Path and visited Tenryu-ji, where azaleas and other flowers were in full bloom, and the guest took many photographs of the flowers. On the train during the return journey, we chatted about the guest's hometown, and the tour ended in a warm and pleasant atmosphere throughout.

Hello! My name is Umi. I was born and raised in Kyoto, and I still live here today.

I have always loved traveling. When I visit another country, I enjoy learning about its history, culture, and way of life from local people. Talking with locals helps me understand a place much better than simply visiting famous sights. That’s why I became a tour guide.

Through my tours, I hope to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of Japan. In addition to its beauty and traditions, I am also happy to talk about modern life in Japan. My goal is for my guests to leave Japan with wonderful memories and a deeper appreciation of the country.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!

What Is a Private Hiroshima Peace Park Family Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from Europe around Hiroshima. It was a relaxed trip, and the tour proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere. For lunch, I took the guests to a newly opened okonomiyaki restaurant near the Peace Memorial Park, where they could enjoy their meal with peace of mind. At the Peace Memorial Park, the guests showed great interest in the exhibits and explanatory texts, and I was struck by how attentively they recorded them on their smartphones. Although rain had been forecast for the day, the weather held until the end of the tour, allowing me to guide them comfortably. Overall, the guests appeared very satisfied, and it turned out to be a truly meaningful tour.

Originally, I’m a cycling guide doing cycling tours all over Japan.
But, already done Hiroshima & Miyajima tour more than 400 times.
I traveled many countries in my younger days. I traveled Europe, US, China, India, US, Mexico, Peru Australia, NZ, and so on.
I decided to use this experience to become a guide.
I’m afraid but no tipping required, because cycling guides are not allowed to have tipping in my association. And you do not need to pay for my lunch, because my lunch is prepared by our group.
Please do not hesitate to ask me anything, I’ll change the plan according to your requests.
Thank you for your understanding and please stay connected.

Title: What's a One-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like Between a Cruise Arrival and an Evening Flight? A Licensed Guide's Report This tour was booked by cruise ship guests who arrived at Harumi in the morning and wanted to make good use of their time until an evening flight that same day. Since the route agreed upon in advance included places the guests had already visited before, we set that aside and agreed on a new route before setting off. The guests seemed to enjoy every place we visited. However, as they had just had a big breakfast, they were unable to eat anything even at Tsukiji. Along the way, we picked up coffee at Starbucks to refresh, which allowed us to guide at a relaxed pace. At the guests' request, we finished a little early, and the guests then headed straight to Narita.

What's a Private Cruise Port Day Tour of Takamatsu Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who came to Takamatsu as part of a cruise ship tour visiting various regions of Japan (Tokyo, Hakodate, Toyama, Sakaiminato, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Kobe, and more). I guided them around Ritsurin Garden, Shikoku Mura, and Takamatsu Castle, and they listened attentively to my explanations. Because we used a taxi, we were able to visit all three places. The weather was wonderful, and the guests enjoyed the classic sights of Takamatsu. I was also fortunate to have such lovely guests, and it was a pleasure to guide them.

Hello. My name is Hisao Kaji. I was born in 1945. I was raised in Takamatsu City from 3 years old. So, I have been living in Takamatsu for around 75 years. I believe I know Takamatsu City and the Kagawa prefecture area very well. If you come to Takamatsu, Kagawa I think you can enjoy your tour with me. I started a Government Licensed Guide in 2019. So, I have been a licensed guide for about 5 years. My favorite destinations are Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsurin Garden, the top of Mt. Yashima and so on. I always show you an itinerary about one month before your tour date, and I will accept any questions, other favorite places you want to visit. Communicating with you, I would like to accommodate your request for your tour. I always listen to NPR on the internet to know how the world is moving and improve my English. I like conversation based upon it with my life. I stayed in the USA for 8 months for a Power Systems Engineering Course conducted by General Electric in New York State when I was 28 years old. I sometimes talk about my memory of those days with the guests. I am very happy to guide tourists because I can see the guests become happy and enjoy themselves when I am guiding better. Nothing is more wonderful than that. I welcome your visit to Takamatsu City and Kagawa Prefecture. I believe you will have a pleasant time through my guide.

Title: What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, and Yanaka The weather was clear and sunny, warm enough to work up a light sweat. I met the guests in the hotel lobby at 9:00. Since the hotel was in the Higashi-Ginza area, we walked to the Tsukiji Outer Market. We had coffee and breakfast at a café in front of the outer market, then headed into the market itself. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, the guests enjoyed sweets, sea urchin, yakitori, and eel, and also purchased a kitchen knife. After that, we traveled from Higashi-Ginza to Hibiya, and I guided the group from the Nijubashi Bridge into the East Gardens. We strolled from the main keep to the Ninomaru Garden, exited through the Hirakawa Gate, and headed to Takebashi Station. The guests had been most looking forward to Asakusa. They purchased a folding fan as a souvenir at Nakamise, had a light snack of takoyaki and fried chicken from the street stalls, and then received goshuin stamps at both Sensoji Temple and Asakusa Shrine in a goshuin book they said they had bought in Kyoto. We had originally planned to go from Ueno Park to Yanaka next, but since the guests wanted to save Ueno Park for last, we took a taxi directly to Yanaka to save time. In Yanaka, they again spent more than 30 minutes purchasing reasonably priced souvenirs such as folding fans and kitchen knives. Since Asakusa had finished earlier than scheduled, we had some time to spare, but places like the Toshogu Shrine in Ueno Park were only open until 17:00. At the guests' request, they wanted advice on planning their own tours for the following days, so we spent the remaining time resting at a Starbucks in Yanaka, discussing their upcoming destinations, and chatting. As there was still a little time before the 18:00 end time, and they mentioned they were heading to a hotel, I guided them by train to Tokyo Station, one stop before Yurakucho, and finished at 18:00. From our prior communications, I had also provided information covering their journey to Tokyo, including Hiroshima, Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. I supported them by confirming hotel cancellations and changes, and a few days before the tour I helped change a reservation at a high-end sushi restaurant, so quite a bit of time was spent outside the actual tour itself. They were very grateful, and the guests were both very kind, our conversations flowed easily, and it was a truly pleasant group to spend time with. This was a trip marking their 25th anniversary, planned two years in advance, and I believe I was able to help create lasting memories. By assisting with various things, I was also able to broaden my own knowledge in many ways.

Nice to meet you. I’m Masayuki. Please call me Marky. After three years’ experience as a non-licensed guide, I took out the guide license as a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter. I have been living in Tokyo for over 25 years in total with some intervals. Not to mention famous historical places such as East gardens of the Imperial Palace, which is the former Edo castle, Meiji Shrine, Senso-ji temple and Ueno Park, I can show you around other places in Tokyo and surrounding areas. My policy is that I make in-depth research of the destinations even if I am not familiar with the place. Tokyo does not stop changing and continues to be renewed while it keeps traditions and remnants of the history. It is very exciting to know the things of the city. I am looking forward to guiding you and exploring this marvelous place.
