    What Is a Private Tsukiji Fish Market and Sushi Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report 1. The tour and the guests' reactions The guests were visitors from North America. One of them had a professional interest in cooking and was very interested in Japanese ingredients, cooking methods, and Japanese cuisine, actively asking many questions. At the tuna auction, the guests were amazed to see large quantities of tuna being auctioned off skillfully and everything proceeding calmly and exactly on schedule. They were also moved by the beauty of the fresh tuna. At the sushi restaurant, the guests asked the chef many questions, and the chef was surprised by the specialized questions, saying, "You really know a lot." They noted that tuna is also eaten back home, but they were impressed that the flavor differs depending on the cooking method and the cut of the fish. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, the guests were full of curiosity and delighted, saying, "I'd love to stay here for another three hours and explore more." They purchased ingredients such as wasabi salt, tamari soy sauce, and miso, and at a Japanese knife shop they listened intently to the staff's explanation and purchased a kiritsuke knife and a nakiri knife. They mentioned that similar Japanese knives can be purchased back home, but they are expensive and not as high in quality as those in Japan, so they were very happy. 2. Other comments, special notes, and requests This tour was booked through a travel agency and was incorporated as part of a tour arranged by that agency. As a result, the advance coordination took a great deal of time, and all arrangements were only finalized the night before. It was a rather tough tour to coordinate, but the guests were very friendly, and the tour was filled with laughter from beginning to end, which made the earlier difficulties worthwhile. Since the guests were very knowledgeable about cooking and ingredients, they taught me about the differences in food culture between Japan and their home region, which was very educational. As noted in the section explaining the reason for the one-hour extension, I would kindly request that the guide extension fee of 4,000 yen be granted.

    What Is a 6-Hour Private Nagasaki Cruise Port Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests, with whom I was able to stay in contact via a messaging app, contacted me at 7:30 in the morning to say they had come out of the cruise terminal building. I let them know to wait in the larger building where the shops, currency exchange machines, and restrooms are located, and I arrived shortly after 8:00 and was able to meet them without any trouble. Inside the terminal, while looking at a map together, I explained the general itinerary I had in mind and received their agreement (in practice, additions and changes were made based on the guests' wishes), and the tour began. Since the weather was not great, we first headed to Glover Garden to make the most of the better conditions. We entered from the upper entrance, which is physically easier since the route only goes downhill. The guests did a little shopping at the shop near the end and also stopped by the crepe shop just past the exit. After explaining the episode of the discovery of the hidden Christians in front of Oura Church, we boarded the car that had been waiting and, again while the weather was still tolerable, headed to Nabekanmuriyama above Glover Garden. Even though it was not clear weather, the guests were delighted with the view. Next we went to the Atomic Bomb Museum. I explained that they should take a good look at "The Boy Standing by the Crematorium" displayed at the end of the exhibition, and the guests viewed the exhibits on their own. They came out of the Atomic Bomb Museum looking deeply moved. From there we walked to the hypocenter and then to Peace Park, after which we boarded the car that had been waiting beside Peace Park and went to the shop for kakuni-manju (braised pork buns) in Chinatown that the guests had requested (Iwasaki Honpo). In fact, this was my first time eating it as well, and it was very delicious. After that we went to the Gunkanjima Digital Museum. Gunkanjima is a very unique World Heritage island where people lived for only about 90 years for coal mining and which is now in ruins. The guests looked at the exhibits with great interest. Finally, I guided them around Dejima for about 30 minutes (the miniature Dejima, the archaeology museum, and the Captain's Quarters), and since they wanted to do some shopping, we headed to Yume Town Yumesaito, which is very close to Dejima and also near Matsugae International Cruise Terminal (about 1,000 yen by taxi). We arrived at exactly 2:30 in the afternoon, so with the guests' agreement, we decided to end the tour there. The guests said they would take a taxi back to Matsugae International Cruise Terminal on their own from there. Since it was necessary for them to split into two cars, I informed them of the location of the taxi stand and handed them two pieces of paper reading "Matsugae International Cruise Terminal," explaining that they should show these to the taxi drivers, and the tour concluded. In six hours we were able to visit many places and enjoy delicious food, so I believe the guests must have been satisfied.

    Title: What Is a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shinjuku, and Shibuya The guests were visitors from North America, and it was their first visit to Japan. They had originally come from another part of North America and had relocated years ago. They had arrived at Haneda Airport by plane a couple of days earlier and taken a taxi to their hotel. The previous day they had explored Shibuya and Harajuku, but because it rained and there were few people out, they said it "wasn't very interesting" and that they would like to visit Shibuya again. They were on a 12-day trip to Japan. From the next day they planned to head to Mount Fuji, then visit Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, before returning to Tokyo and flying home. They expressed a wish to "continue seeing the main spots in Tokyo" and, "if possible, see the cherry blossoms." It was a cloudy day for the tour. We moved to Tsukiji, which was as crowded as ever. I explained "the history of the fish market since the Edo period" and "the difference between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market." The guests asked and commented, "Do all Tokyo residents come here to buy fish?" and "It's crowded, but it really seems like there are a lot of tourists." They said they "wanted to try some food," and sampled a large amount, including tuna sushi, grilled king crab, Kobe beef skewers, and matcha ice cream (they said they hadn't had breakfast yet). They also purchased matcha and nori (saying they make maki sushi at home). Next we went to Asakusa. Starting in front of Kaminarimon gate, I explained "the history of Sensoji Temple and of Edo becoming Tokyo," "what the five-story pagoda is for," "what Buddhism is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." We took commemorative photos at Kaminarimon, in front of the five-story pagoda, and various other spots. We strolled slowly along the very crowded Nakamise shopping street (full of visitors from overseas). There were questions such as "What is Japan's main religion?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", and "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people follow?" There was also a question about "why so many people wearing kimono are seen within the temple grounds." At Asakusa Shrine they purchased a goshuincho (stamp book). They also bought an omamori (amulet) as a souvenir. After this, they said they "wanted to take photos in front of a torii gate," so we went to Hie Shrine in Akasaka. We took photos several times along the sloped path. Here too they purchased an ema (souvenir to take home). We went to the East Exit of Shinjuku and strolled through Kabukicho. I explained "the history of Shinjuku" and "the difference between the East and West exits of Shinjuku." Strolling through Kabukicho, they eagerly photographed the "3D cat billboard" and the "Godzilla head." They also commented, "Unlike other neighborhoods, there is litter scattered around here." They said they "wanted to take a short break," so we went to a nearby coffee shop. We moved to Shibuya and actually crossed the Scramble Crossing. There were questions such as "About how many people cross here?" and "Why did it become famous?" We also took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. There were comments and questions such as "The city is clean and there's no litter on the ground," "There are no trash cans in the streets—why is that?", "Everyone is quiet on the trains," and "There are vending machines all over the place." I saw them off at Ginza Station, where we parted ways.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.

    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.

    Title: Can You Do a Private Kyoto Day Tour to Kinkaku-ji? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe. They had originally planned to visit Kinkaku-ji and Fushimi Inari, but since they had become quite tired during their stay in Tokyo, they requested to visit only Kinkaku-ji. During the morning meeting, they also mentioned that, if possible, they would like to watch a Miyako Odori performance in Gion after the tour, so I checked the availability by phone during the tour. Unfortunately, today's performances were already fully booked, but there were only six seats available for the 12:30 session the following day. As the guests wished to attend, I helped them make the reservation and then assisted with issuing the tickets at a convenience store. After visiting Kinkaku-ji during the tour, the guests wanted to have lunch nearby, so I guided them to an okonomiyaki restaurant. It seemed to be their first time, and they were very pleased.

    Title: What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toshogu, Taiyuin, and Tamozawa Imperial Villa The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They requested an itinerary that would not be too demanding, and they asked to end the tour a little early at the Tamozawa Imperial Villa. Because some in the group had specific dietary needs, I reserved a restaurant serving Indian cuisine that could accommodate them. Their wishes were to visit Shinkyo Bridge, Toshogu Shrine, Taiyuin, and the Tamozawa Imperial Villa, to finish the tour 40 minutes early, and to keep the pace comfortable for the group. To achieve this, I constantly adjusted the pace and the time spent at each site compared to a normal tour, and I managed to meet the agreed finishing time. The guests were considering taking a bus by themselves from the Tamozawa Imperial Villa bus stop (around 2:00 PM) toward the lake area, and then taking a short walk from Yudaki Falls to Ryuzu Falls. I made sure they were able to catch the bus in time while satisfying all of their needs. Because of this, I believe the guests were very satisfied.

    What Is a Private Car Tour of Tokyo Like on Day One? A Licensed Guide's Report This was the first day in Japan for a group visiting from North America and Asia, on a private car tour. First, the group attended Mass at a chapel in Roppongi that they had researched in advance. At Sensoji Temple they drew omikuji fortunes, and two out of five received the "bad luck" result. Since it was a large group and a Sunday, we discussed the options and I had reserved a meat restaurant for lunch, which they enjoyed very much. Some of the guests were in good spirits but could not walk for long distances, so where there were no benches, they used plastic chairs they had brought along, and the group cooperated and found creative ways to manage. The azaleas at Rikugien Garden seemed to be just past their peak, but they were still beautiful and much appreciated. We finished almost exactly on schedule, and since we would be together again the following day, we confirmed the meeting arrangements before parting.

    Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari, and Gion The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. The day before the tour, the guests requested a change of the meeting point to a burger restaurant near Kiyomizu-dera. Either way, the only feasible itinerary from the tour start time was Kiyomizu-dera and Fushimi Inari, finishing in Gion, so I agreed to the change. They were a friendly and close-knit group, and it felt as though they had joined this tour because they wanted to practice speaking English. In the end, since they planned to have dinner at the final location, we finished the tour a little earlier than scheduled. I believe they were being considerate, likely because the meeting point had been set near Kiyomizu-dera.

    What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama, and Tenryu-ji I met today's guests, a group visiting from North America, at their hotel on time and discussed the day's itinerary. As a result, we decided on Kinkaku-ji, Tenryu-ji, and the bamboo grove. At Kinkaku-ji, I explained the uniqueness of its reliquary hall and the era in which Japan's traditional culture flourished. Since we were sightseeing within a limited time, we took a taxi to Arashiyama. At the bamboo grove, I guided the guests to Nonomiya Shrine, and from the bamboo grove we moved to the Hozu River, where they were able to take many commemorative photos. From the Hozu River we entered Tenryu-ji, where I explained the Japanese garden and Zen Buddhism, and then guided them through the botanical garden so they could fully enjoy the beauty of spring nature. From Tenryu-ji we returned to Kyoto Station by train, and since the guests wished to visit Fushimi Inari, I directed them to the train for Inari Station at Kyoto Station and concluded today's guiding on the platform.

    What Is a Private Walking Tour of Shimonoseki Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests traveled across various parts of Japan for about a month, from Hokkaido to Kyushu, and during part of their journey they boarded a cruise ship and arrived in Shimonoseki. As long-distance walking was not a problem, we walked round-trip through the pedestrian section of the Kanmon Strait Tunnel from Akama Shrine, and also took a leisurely stroll through the former castle town of Chofu. Since arriving in Japan, they had often felt rushed in urban areas and crowded tourist spots, so they were delighted to spend a relaxed time in Shimonoseki, walking along the coast and among the samurai residences.
