What Is a Private Day Tour of Nikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Lake Chuzenji and Toshogu Shrine The guests were visitors from North America. Initially they had hoped to visit both Lake Chuzenji and the World Heritage area, but eventually decided to focus on the World Heritage area. However, early on the morning of the tour, they requested a change back to visiting Lake Chuzenji and Toshogu Shrine, and I accommodated this flexibly. Since the sightseeing spots are far apart, we could only spend about an hour at Lake Chuzenji, but the guests enjoyed viewing Kegon Falls and taking photos by the lakeside. Afterward, they wished to try yuba (tofu skin) cuisine, so they enjoyed a meal in the World Heritage area. In the afternoon, I guided them to Toshogu Shrine, the highlight of Nikko. The guests thoroughly appreciated its beauty. They were extremely pleased to be able to visit both Kegon Falls and Toshogu Shrine, the highlights of Nikko, in a single day. I believe it became an unforgettable day for the guests.

I am a licensed guide based in the Nikko area of Tochigi Prefecture, with a passion for sharing the depth and beauty of this remarkable region.
In particular, I take great pride in introducing the magnificent World Heritage area, home to Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, Rinnoji Temple, and the iconic Shinkyo Bridge. The rich history, spiritual atmosphere, and masterful craftsmanship found there are truly inspiring.
But Nikko has much more to offer beyond the World Heritage zone. The region is uniquely spread across three different elevation zones: the central town area, the Lake Chuzenji area at higher altitude, and the remote Yumoto Onsen area in the mountains. Each of these areas offers a different charm—from historic sites and sacred spaces to scenic lakes, waterfalls, and hot springs.
However, due to the area’s wide geography, limited public transit options, and seasonal congestion, even navigating efficiently within a single area can be challenging without local knowledge.
That’s why local expertise is essential. With in-depth knowledge of Nikko’s layout, transportation network, and crowd patterns, I help my guests make the most of their time, while focusing on the area that suits their interests best.
I don’t just recite what’s written in guidebooks—I offer deeper insights rooted in Japanese history, religion, and culture. From the legacy of Tokugawa Ieyasu to the spiritual symbolism behind shrine architecture, I aim to provide meaningful and memorable experiences.
If you’re looking to discover the real Nikko, from its iconic landmarks to hidden gems, I’d be honored to guide you.

Title: What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Gora Park, Owakudani, and Lake Ashi The guests were a group visiting Japan, some from Asia and some from North America. Before the Hakone portion, they had stayed a few nights in Okinawa so that some of the guests could study karate, and they then planned to sightsee in Hakone and Tokyo. We started at Gora Park, near the Hotel. In the park, where many kinds of flowers were in bloom, they enjoyed taking numerous photos, and at the Craft House they purchased some favorite accessories. They said they love this kind of craft art. At Owakudani, after learning about how the Hakone volcano was formed at the Geo Museum, we took a guided visit to the site where the "black eggs" are made. Everyone was very curious, and after the tour the whole group promptly bought and ate them. Next, they enjoyed the pirate ship, and we had planned to visit Hakone Shrine, but partway through the sky suddenly turned bad and a heavy thunderstorm began, so we quickly changed plans and headed to a marquetry (yosegi) craft shop. Here too they purchased many favorite pieces. Unfortunately, the sky was cloudy and we were unable to see Mount Fuji, but the guests said it was a very meaningful tour, as they came to learn about many charms of Hakone that they had not known about before coming here.

What Is a Private Sakurajima and Kagoshima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Kagoshima, and everyone enjoyed walking and sightseeing energetically throughout the tour. One of the guests was very friendly and talked a lot with the guide, which made for a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Everyone was amazed by the power of Sakurajima, including the volcanic ash piled up on the roads and the buried torii gate. They enjoyed eating udon and ramen, and since some of the guests were not comfortable using chopsticks, they were very grateful when forks were provided. They bought many Satsuma small mandarin sweets as souvenirs.

What Is a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were visitors from North America who chose Hakone as the final stop of their long trip through Japan. Before visiting Hakone, they had traveled to Tokyo, Kanazawa, Shirakawa-go, and Kyoto, and they said every day had been very hot. On the day of the tour, in contrast to the recent extreme heat, the temperature was lower and the weather was very pleasant. Rain started falling in the afternoon, but we were able to continue the tour comfortably by working around the breaks between showers. We visited Hakone's most representative spots, and among them, Hakone Shrine and the Hakone Open-Air Museum seemed to leave a strong impression. The guests enjoyed the sacred and quiet atmosphere of Hakone Shrine, surrounded by greenery. As for the Hakone Open-Air Museum, the guests seemed to enjoy visiting art museums in general, so it was a perfect way to bring the tour to a close. For lunch at Kinuhiki-no-Sato near Moto-Hakone Port, the guests enjoyed kinuhiki udon and katsu-ju. One of the guests had a strong interest in food, and we had a lively conversation ranging from traditional Japanese cuisine to cuisines from around the world.

What Can You See on a Private Cruise-Stop Tour in Kagoshima? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from North America visiting Japan for the first time. They were on a cruise tour departing from Yokohama Port, and after visiting Toba, Kochi, Jeju Island in Korea, and other destinations, the ship called at Kagoshima. At Sengan-en, the guests appeared deeply impressed by the beautiful garden set against the backdrop of Kinko Bay and Sakurajima, as well as the residence of the Shimazu family. They also purchased several Kagoshima souvenirs at the shop inside Sengan-en. At the Yunohira Observatory on Sakurajima, the guests seemed impressed by the majestic views of Sakurajima and Kinko Bay. At the Sakurajima Visitor Center, they watched a video about the history of Sakurajima. Because the ship's arrival was delayed and customs clearance took a very long time, the start of the tour was significantly delayed, but I responded in line with the guests' wishes, so I believe they were satisfied.

I was born in Kagoshima City in Kyushu (Southern part of Japan) and grew up there until the graduation from a high school. I came to Tokyo to enter a University in Tokyo and since then, I have lived in Tokyo for more than 40 years and therefore I know Tokyo and its suburbs and Kagoshima City very well. After retiring from an IT company, I have been working as a Guide Interpreter of English since March 2018. I have guided many overseas guests to the popular sightseeing spots in Tokyo, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji area (Kawaguchiko Lake etc.), Hakone, Nikko, Yokohama, Kawagoe and Kagoshima and so on. I have received good reviews from many guests. I can explain the history and the culture of Japan in detail. I look forward to an opportunity to guide you in Japan. Thank you. Seizo Kamiuto

What Is a Private Family Day Tour of Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. The group was very open, close-knit, and cheerful. I served as a last-minute replacement for the previous guide, but there were no problems at all. In the morning the weather changed dramatically, and just before entering the Great Buddha Hall of Todai-ji, a sudden squall-like heavy rain fell, so like the other visitors, we waited for a while before going to see the Great Buddha. After the Great Buddha Hall, it started raining again when we arrived at Nigatsu-do, but this rain did not last long. Since everyone was energetic, we walked directly from Nigatsu-do to Kasuga Taisha. It took about 13 minutes, but since the main hall of Kasuga Taisha is not easily accessible by bus, walking was helpful. After lunch, we visited Yoshikien Garden and Naramachi, then saw the guests off at JR Nara Station to end the tour. The photo was taken at the Naramachi Nigiwai-no-ie. The children took part in an origami workshop, and the photo shows them making samurai helmets.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

What Can You See on a Private First-Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private first-day tour of Tokyo for a group visiting Japan from North America. The group planned to continue to Kyoto after a week in Tokyo. Since one member of the group needed to be mindful of walking pace and general condition, I kept the pace gentle and paid attention to everyone's comfort throughout the day. At Hamarikyu Gardens, I recommended a break at the tea house on the island, and everyone enjoyed matcha and nerikiri sweets. For lunch at Tsukiji, I had considered taking the group to a food court because of the size of the group, but since everyone loved sushi, we went to a sushi restaurant, which they were delighted with. As they mentioned wanting to collect goshuin stamps, I explained the differences between the stamps at places such as Hamarikyu and Ueno Park, and they received a goshuin book and a stamp at Namiyoke Shrine, and also obtained stamps at Kiyomizu Kannon-do and Ueno Tosho-gu. They also learned how to ride the subway using a Suica card and how to use the vending machines. In Yanaka, they bought souvenirs such as chopstick rests at a tea shop. I was a little worried about the high humidity, but the tour finished without any trouble, and I felt relieved.

They wanted to visit popular spots, so I guided them to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kinkaku-ji Temple, and Nijo Castle. I had been worried that it would be a tough tour in the extreme heat, but just as we got off the bus at the Kiyomizu-michi bus stop, an unexpected heavy rain began, so we hurried to buy raincoats at a convenience store before starting the tour. The rain stopped soon after, and thanks to that the temperature dropped a little, and perhaps because of the rain there were fewer people, so we were able to see the sights very comfortably, which was wonderful. What Is a Private Day Tour to Nikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. As it was their first trip to Japan, they seemed to have very high expectations for Nikko. For this reason, they requested Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Falls, Toshogu Shrine, and Rinnoji Temple. Since it was also their first visit to Japan, they seemed to wish for an authentic Japanese-style dining experience, so I arranged a restaurant that suited their preferences. The itinerary was initially quite packed, but because visibility at Lake Chuzenji was poor due to rain, we wrapped up and took a slightly earlier bus. As a result, we were able to proceed at a comfortable pace overall. At the end, the guests requested to change to an earlier train, and I assisted with the change. The guests seemed very pleased with the tour, including the restaurant and the help with the final ticket change. I believe it turned out to be a satisfying tour for the guests.

What Is a Private Kyoto Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting Japan for the first time. It was a memorable trip for the group. There was a record from Nagoya, and since the mobile Suica was being rejected, I provided support at Kyoto Station and had it released. The guests said they wanted to broaden their perspectives by traveling to many countries. They were also interested in history and listened attentively to the guide's explanations. As they also enjoyed shopping, they made purchases here and there, which resulted in the tour running over the scheduled time.

Hello, my name is Mizuho Yoshikawa. Please call me Mizu and my name means rice and water in Japanese.
I’ve been a tour guide more than 200 times since the spring of 2023 in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Wakayama and Kochi. My tour is always original and new, depending on the guest’s preferences, encounters, seasons and weather.
In Kyoto, one of my tours is to climb Mt. Kurama. It is about 1 hour from the city of Kyoto by train, it is a very quiet and beautiful mountain.
In Osaka, which is called the kitchen of Japan, I am also in charge of food tour.
In Nara, in addition to the Great Budda Hall, I guide guests to the temple with a really great view and Japanese wine, sake tasting.
Every city has a unique charming point.
The motto of my guiding is ” Ichigo Ichie” Once in a lifetime or seize the day. I learn this concept that the moment will never be the same again through tea ceremonies.
I like a tea ceremony that is part of the traditional Japanese culture and embodies the spirit of “omotenashi” or hospitality. Through the tea ceremony, we can feel the spirit of “omotenashi” that has been passed down to us from ancient times.
And I like to travel abroad and domestically, and I have been to 13 overseas countries and most of the prefectures in Japan. Traveling always gives me a new perspective, which is exciting and thrilling. Nowadays, we can learn a lot from the Internet, but traveling teaches us that it is important to have direct experience. When I travel, I feel that my five senses are infinitely expanded, and through my tour, I help all guests to have the same feeling in Japan.
I was born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is next to Tokyo Prefecture in eastern Japan. When I was little, I could see Mount Fuji from my backyard. There was also a rice field nearby, and I grew up listening to the croaking of frogs. Listening to the frogs and seeing the mountains made me feel very calm.
I moved to the city of Kobe, one of the Kansai areas in western Japan, which includes Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and so on. I’m not from the Kansai area of western Japan, but I think that makes me sensitive to the differences between that area and the Kanto area, Tokyo, where I grew up.
Speaking of Kobe, you might be thinking of Kobe beef. Of course you do. There are also other sake breweries in Nada in Kobe. You can also go from Kobe city to Himeji Castle, also known as the White Egret Castle, which was the first in Japan to be listed as a World Heritage Site in 1993.
Let’s meet and enjoy Japan together!
