What Is a Private Naoshima and Inujima Art Island Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a solo traveler visiting from Oceania. They were light on their feet and wonderfully responsive, which made guiding very easy. They had an active itinerary, planning to travel from Tokyo to Kurashiki, then Naoshima, then Inujima, then join a six-day walking tour at Ito Onsen in Shizuoka Prefecture, before heading to Haneda and returning to Oceania. They practice a Japanese martial art involving the sword and staff in Oceania (I am not familiar with the specific school), and their movements were crisp and precise. They were very attentive, which made guiding both easy and enjoyable. Since they were planning to go to Inujima the next day, and I thought the high-speed boat boarding area at Miyanoura Port on Naoshima might be hard to find, I took them there in person to explain before we parted, and they were very pleased.

Hello. My name is Hisao Kaji. I was born in 1945. I was raised in Takamatsu City from 3 years old. So, I have been living in Takamatsu for around 75 years. I believe I know Takamatsu City and the Kagawa prefecture area very well. If you come to Takamatsu, Kagawa I think you can enjoy your tour with me. I started a Government Licensed Guide in 2019. So, I have been a licensed guide for about 5 years. My favorite destinations are Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsurin Garden, the top of Mt. Yashima and so on. I always show you an itinerary about one month before your tour date, and I will accept any questions, other favorite places you want to visit. Communicating with you, I would like to accommodate your request for your tour. I always listen to NPR on the internet to know how the world is moving and improve my English. I like conversation based upon it with my life. I stayed in the USA for 8 months for a Power Systems Engineering Course conducted by General Electric in New York State when I was 28 years old. I sometimes talk about my memory of those days with the guests. I am very happy to guide tourists because I can see the guests become happy and enjoy themselves when I am guiding better. Nothing is more wonderful than that. I welcome your visit to Takamatsu City and Kagawa Prefecture. I believe you will have a pleasant time through my guide.

What Is a Private Kurama-to-Kibune Tour in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from North America visiting Japan for the first time. Since they wanted to avoid crowded places, I planned a route from Kurama to Kibune, but because the annual Kibune Festival, held only once a year, took place that day, I consulted with them in advance, reversed the course, and moved the departure time earlier. However, the mountain hike proved to be quite strenuous, so when one of the guests had to give up partway, I suggested that the whole group descend together. At the guest's own wish, I took the rest of the group over the mountain, met the taxi at Kurama-dera, and on the way back to Kibune we picked up the guest to rejoin the itinerary, allowing us to deliver everyone to the Hotel right on schedule. Everyone was very satisfied, and I even received a gratuity.

    Kamakura Customized Half-Day Tour

    Tour Itinerary

    • 11:15 Meet at Kamakura Station. Depart Hasedera Station by bus. Goryo Shrine. Hasedera Temple. Lunch. Kamakura Great Buddha. After sightseeing, go to Kamakura Station by bus. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. After sightseeing, take the train from Kamakura Station at 15:36 to Shinjuku. I rode along and parted ways at Yokohama Station.

What Is a Private Kamakura History Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests visited Japan for a tour, an occasion that had originally been planned for 2020 but had to be canceled due to the pandemic. Their main interest was in learning about Japanese history, and Kamakura was a fitting destination for this. We were able to discuss the differences between Shinto and Buddhism, the relationship between these religions and everyday Japanese life, and the fact that Kamakura is where the first shogun established the shogunate — including the differences between the emperor and the shogun and how these roles stand today. The guests listened with great interest. They mentioned that they would also be visiting the Kumano Kodo, and as they are very capable walkers, I am sure they will thoroughly enjoy it.

What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Owakudani, Lake Ashi, and Hakone Shrine At the request of the guests, who were hoping for the weather to improve, the start time was pushed back by one hour, and the tour began at 10:00. Although a light rain was still falling around 10:00, by the time we arrived at Owakudani around 11:00 it had almost stopped, and miraculously we were able to see Mount Fuji. I was able to take some lovely photos for the guests, and I felt that I had accomplished one of the most important missions of this tour. The guests had arrived in Hakone the previous day and had already visited Amazake Chaya and the Old Tokaido Road, but had not yet experienced the pirate ship cruise or a visit to Hakone Shrine, so I focused on guiding them along the standard golden course as usual. Perhaps because of the morning rain, the area in front of the Peace Torii seemed less crowded than usual. At Hakone-Yumoto, the guests said they wanted to continue shopping, so I explained where to catch the Hakone Tozan Railway and ended the tour slightly earlier than planned. The guests had purchased a Hakone Free Pass the previous day, and along the way we each used our own free pass to get around.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

What Is a Private Walking Tour of Nagasaki Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were very energetic and wished to walk, so we covered more than 10,000 steps during the tour. There were no injuries and the tour ended safely. They listened with great interest to explanations about the history and current situation of Nagasaki. They were very pleasant, and I enjoyed guiding them. They enjoyed jokes and kept making everyone laugh. They did not request lunch. Public transportation was crowded with school trips and similar groups, but the guests seemed comfortable. They remarked that the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum was not as crowded as Hiroshima, which was a relief.

    How are you doing?
I am Noriko Takahashi. Please call me Norah. I am a government licensed guide interpreter/ a happy housewife who likes shopping, eating nice food, traveling, and studying history.
Many thanks for considering Nagasaki as one of your destinations. Nagasaki is immensely popular among the Japanese as well as international travelers. Nagasaki means Naga — long, saki — peninsula. Can you guess why this small peninsula attracts so many people? Is it because of its fascinating history, landscapes, festivals, food, or unique culture? Let me help you find the answer. Let us explore Nagasaki off the beaten path, while enjoying local restaurants, and hearing stories that are never found in the guidebooks!

What Can You See on a Private Walking Tour of Arashiyama in Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a very friendly and kind group visiting from North America. Following their wishes, we strolled through the sights of Arashiyama in Kyoto. They were greatly moved by the bamboo grove, of course, as well as Okochi Sanso Villa, Kameyama Park, and the beautiful scenery and nature seen from the Togetsukyo Bridge. I also introduced the sightseeing train, the Hozugawa River boat ride, museums, the Gozan no Okuribi fire festival, cormorant fishing, Suminokura Ryoi, and the memorial monument dedicated to Zhou Enlai. The guests said they would definitely like to return to Arashiyama once more next year, stay overnight here, and fully enjoy the autumn foliage or cherry blossoms. I also introduced Senkoji, a small temple with a long history located halfway up the mountainside of Arashiyama, which is wonderful for autumn foliage. They asked in great detail how to get there, so they may visit again the next day. As a note for information, at Okochi Sanso Villa, the admission fee used to include a service of matcha and Japanese sweets at the tea house, but this service has already been discontinued, so anyone who has not visited for a while should be aware of this.

**Title:** What's a Private Cruise Port Day Tour of Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, and Kuromon Market The guests were a group visiting from North America, traveling by cruise ship and enjoying sightseeing at each port of call. Although each had their own personality, they were a cheerful and friendly group. Their main requests were: "We want to make the most of our limited time on shore to enjoy sightseeing. We're happy to use taxis if needed. For meals, we'd like to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine rather than chain restaurants." Based on these wishes, the itinerary was set as (1) Osaka Castle, (2) Dotonbori and lunch, and (3) Kuromon Market. For lunch, I reserved a traditional Japanese restaurant in Dotonbori. However, when we met at Tempozan on the day, the guests said, "The cruise ship's schedule has changed, and we need to be back by 2:00 PM," so a partial change to the itinerary was required. First, we traveled to Osaka Castle by two taxis and got off near Otemon Gate, the closest point to the castle keep. We also shortened the visit to the keep, wrapping it up in about 45 minutes. Since Dotonbori was only about 15 minutes away with one transfer, we used the subway. In Dotonbori, after explaining about the Minami district of Osaka, we strolled around while enjoying takoyaki. At times, the guests even had fun trying a shooting gallery game. Since the reserved restaurant opened at noon, we moved up the visit to Kuromon Market, which had originally been planned for after lunch (about a 15-minute walk from Dotonbori). As it was still before noon and not too crowded, we were able to enjoy a leisurely stroll and some shopping. Finally came the highlight everyone had been looking forward to: an authentic Japanese lunch at the traditional restaurant. It was a small, intimate place with about 12 seats on each of its two floors, but it had a calm atmosphere, and above all, the appeal was that from the counter seats you could see everything the chef was preparing. The guests repeatedly exclaimed, "Wonderful!" and "Amazing!" and asked so many questions that I was kept busy answering them. The guests were truly satisfied with tasting authentic Japanese cuisine. In guiding, the question is always "How can I make the guests satisfied within limited time?" This time, even amid a sudden reduction in available time, I believe we achieved maximum satisfaction with the cooperation of the guests. It was a very pleasant tour to guide.

Hi, everyone! I’m Norifumi Kamon, a government registered guide interpreter. Please call me “Nori”, or “Kamon-san”.
Let me introdece myself. I was born on April 17th in 1952 in Miyazaki prefecture in Kyushu island. I used to be an English teacher of Osaka Prefectural high school. When I retired from a teacher ten years ago, I decided to get a professional guide license. I wanted to play a role of the bridge between Japanese people and the people from all over the world as a second life of mine. After two years efforts, I finally got the guide license. Since then, I have guided several handreds of foreign people mainly in Kyoto and Nara for about five years except Corona Pandemic period. Almost all the tourists were deeply impressed by the beauty of nature, traditoin, culture, and art of Japan. I can surely help you enjoy and be satisfied with the sightseeing in Japan. And I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.

Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour by Public Transport Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. Since they preferred to avoid using taxis as much as possible, I planned an itinerary that made effective use of public transportation. To make the best use of our time, we used a taxi twice: once from JR Saga-Arashiyama Station to Gioji Temple, and once from Kinkakuji Temple at the end to Kitaoji Station, the nearest subway station. Feeling it would be a shame to visit only crowded spots such as Fushimi Inari and the Sagano Bamboo Grove, I guided them to the relatively quiet Gioji Temple and along peaceful little paths leading to the bamboo grove, which they greatly appreciated.

I’m Ryoichi Kazuma and my nickname is “Kazz”. I live in Kyotanabe city next to Kyoto city. I want guests to enjoy Kyoto by seeing and experiencing not only from outside but also from inside. I offer various information from daily matters to traditional cultures. Most destinations in Kyoto are located on the eastern side or the western side. As I want to guide guests to as many destinations as possible, I make an efficient itinerary and recommend a taxi use to save time. Additionally, I take pictures at various spots and finally share the link to my storage. By doing so, guests can download their favorite pictures from my storage. Please enjoy Kyoto night and day!

Can You Do a Private One-Day Walking Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Yanaka, and Harajuku The guests were visitors from North America. They had arrived in Japan two days earlier and were planning a stay of around ten days, visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and other areas. At the time the guide request was confirmed, no accommodation had been given, but as soon as we began communicating they let me know the name of their Hotel, and we arranged to meet there. The pickup was originally scheduled for 10:00, but as I arrived early and was looking over my materials, one of the guests suddenly said hello to me about 15 minutes ahead of time. They had come down to the front desk early to exchange money and spotted me there. As a result, we started earlier than planned, at 9:45. I guided them to Asakusa, Yanaka, Nezu, Meiji Shrine, and Takeshita Street. It was raining lightly when the tour started, but fortunately it had mostly stopped by late morning. Asakusa was quite crowded with school excursion students, but everywhere else we were able to get around comfortably. Many of the places were traditional, and at each one the guests took lots of photos and videos and enjoyed themselves. At the end, after seeing Takeshita Street, they wanted to explore the Omotesando area on their own, so I explained how to get back to their Hotel and we parted ways near the entrance of Meiji-jingumae Station.

What Is a Private Guided Day Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests had wonderful smiles throughout the day. This tour appeared to be part of a Japan sightseeing plan arranged by a local travel agency. Since the guests did not seem very keen on the heavy content of the Peace Memorial Park and the museum, we wrapped up that portion early. By a stroke of luck, the museum was unusually quiet that day, which allowed us to avoid the typical heavy crowds. The guests thoroughly enjoyed the okonomiyaki and finished every bite. At Miyajima, their smiles grew and they took lots of photos and had a great time. Because they had stopped by Miyajima with no prior knowledge at all, everything was a surprise and they were deeply impressed. They also enjoyed a lemon soda and a gin and tonic. Along the way, whenever I asked questions about Europe, they seemed very happy, so I asked plenty. It was enjoyable for me too, as I got to hear many interesting stories.
