    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Hakone Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Pickup was originally planned at a hotel near Odawara Station, but we were able to meet at Odawara Station itself, allowing for an early start. Since the guests wished to leave their luggage, I arranged for the carry service at Hakone-Yumoto Station to deliver it to their accommodation near Lake Ashi. To reach Sounzan Station for the ropeway, we used the mountain railway and cable car, enjoying the mountain scenery and the hydrangeas that were beginning to bloom along the way. At Owakudani, Mount Fuji was unfortunately not visible, but we were able to take our time, including a visit to the Geo Museum. All members of the group followed a vegetarian diet, and they were delighted with the delicious "bean and vegetable tomato curry" available at the Owakudani Station restaurant. On the pirate ship, we disembarked at Motohakone Port via Hakonemachi Port, and the boat became much less crowded on the Hakonemachi Port to Motohakone Port section, allowing us to relax. From Motohakone Port to Hakone Shrine, we walked along the lake. Here as well, many people were lined up waiting their turn to take photos at the Peace Torii Gate, but the shrine grounds themselves were quiet and uncrowded, which the guests seemed to enjoy very much.

    What's a Private Hiroshima Peace Park Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests included one member of the group who was of Japanese descent and spoke a little Japanese, and another member who was fluent in reading and writing Japanese. Part of the group had visited Hiroshima and Miyajima last August, making this their second visit, while another member was in Japan for the first time. They had arrived in Hiroshima the previous day and had already visited the Peace Memorial Museum and the hypocenter, guided by a member of the group. Since the plan was to go to Miyajima in the afternoon, I provided advance guidance on purchasing tickets, and the guests carefully viewed the various monuments within the Peace Park. There was also a delightful moment when the group took photos together with a small group of children who were there on an excursion. Although we were able to meet quickly because we had been in contact, I reflected that it is important to clearly specify in advance whether the meeting point should be the hotel entrance or the lobby.

    What Is a Private Family Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. This trip was to celebrate a university graduation within the group, and one of the guests was a great fan of Japan, having minored in Japanese history and culture centered on samurai society as well as the Japanese language, making them the focus of the family's visit. Another of the guests was also an anime fan who had already started studying Japanese, and both asked questions from time to time about beginner-level Japanese conversational expressions. Meanwhile, another of the guests showed interest in Nishijin textiles and other traditional Kyoto culture, while another asked some very basic questions about Buddhism, such as whether there is one Buddha or several. After visiting Kiyomizu-dera, the guests enjoyed shopping at a high-end ceramics store along Kiyomizu-zaka. At the group's request, we returned to the Hotel at 15:30, and we said goodbye with smiles and handshakes all around. Before parting, I confirmed their reservation for the kimono and tea ceremony experience the next day and provided guidance on the exact way to get there.

    Born, raised and married in Kyoto, I am Masaaki Tanaka started English-speaking licensed guide since 2008, guiding mostly those English-speaking inbound tourists in Kyoto, which is my home base, and in Osaka (where I woked so long time until my retirment) and Nara and in other Kansai areas incl. My hobby includes : seeing Noh Play and Kabuki, hearing Musics in general (Beethoven, Beatles, Jazz & Rock’n Rolls as well as Japanese classicals), seeing the paintings/artworks in general, playing the piano (all time at beginner’s level, though), playing the guitar and, when younger, I enjoyed skiing and business golf.     Title: What Is a Private Family Sightseeing Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Three days before the tour, they contacted me to say they had arranged a vehicle on their own and asked to move the start time earlier to 07:30 for breakfast. I agreed and tried to reach the driver, but I could not make contact before arriving on site, so we had to start without any prior coordination. At the hotel, it became clear that the vehicle was an unlicensed private car. The driver spoke Japanese and English without difficulty, but normally seemed to handle airport and theme park transfers, and was not very familiar with drop-offs, pickups, or parking locations along our itinerary, relying entirely on Google Maps. Since I had not been able to contact the driver, I had printed maps of the destinations in advance and brought them along, which allowed me to explain the route and manage the day. In previous tours with a vehicle, I had used licensed private taxis or hire cars, where simply telling the driver the location resulted in stops that were often even better placed than I had anticipated, so I referred to that experience as well. Today, in Shibuya, some of the guests returned to the hotel by vehicle, while the rest went to the Pokémon shop in Parco and then planned to head back to Harajuku, so we parted ways in Shibuya. Tomorrow they will visit Tokyo Disneyland (also using the same vehicle), and after spending a total of several days in Tokyo they will head to Kyoto. Because the vehicle was arranged neither by [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) nor by me, there was nothing I could do about it. Still, as a licensed guide-interpreter, it was a somewhat awkward day given the recent public discussion around unlicensed private cars.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Title: What's a Family-Friendly Private Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Kuromon Market, and Dotonbori The guests were a group visiting Osaka. Since the young members of the group tired easily even though they could walk, we went around with a folding stroller. They were charming, and people passing by greeted them along the way. At first I had thought we would only take photos in front of Osaka Castle, but the group wanted to go inside, so we toured the interior as well. Because it was early in the day, it was relatively uncrowded. I gave a simple explanation of history while showing photos of Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu, and the group enjoyed it as they were fond of history. At Kuromon Market we enjoyed light snacks such as fruit, ice cream, and takoyaki, and since the group also wanted to eat ramen in Dotonbori, we went into Kamukura. Having sampled several ramen shops myself, I explained that Kamukura has a sweeter flavor, and since it suits younger tastes, they decided to eat there. There were other places I had wanted to show them, but after more than four hours, and with nap time approaching for the younger members of the group, we returned to the hotel. I saw them off at the entrance and we parted ways.

    Title: What's a Private Kyoto Family Tour with Kids Like? A Licensed Guide's Report This was a tour using a taxi arranged by the guests through their hotel. Whether due to an error by the taxi company or a mistake made when the guests booked, the taxi did not appear even by 9:00, so I had the hotel call to inquire. It turned out the taxi company had the reservation booked for 10:00, so we had one arranged right away and started at 9:40. There were some younger members in the group, all very curious. Even while I was giving explanations, it seemed difficult for the guests to listen, and I was often unable to explain the scenery through the car windows during the drive. The younger members of the group seemed to enjoy the stepping stones at Izumi and the monkey park.

    【What Is a Private Guided Tour of Hirosaki in Aomori Like? A Licensed Guide's Report】 [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private tour in Aomori for the group visiting Japan for the first time. Their itinerary covered Tokyo, Osaka (takoyaki), Kyoto, Hiroshima (okonomiyaki), Busan (shochu), Aomori, Hakodate, and back to Tokyo. The guests were baseball fans and big admirers of Shohei Ohtani. When I mentioned that Ohtani is from Hanamaki Higashi High School, they said they would like to join the Nebuta Festival and visit Hanamaki on their next trip. I guided them to the Five-Story Pagoda of Saishoin Temple, then a lunch of Japanese soba, Hirosaki Castle, and Tsugaru-han Neputa Mura. One of the guests enjoyed sake and drank two go of cold sake while eating soba. Some of the guests liked mochi, and for something sweet they tried soba ohagi and fried soba, and were impressed by how delicious they were. They asked why there are so few people walking around in Hirosaki City. Still, they seemed to really enjoy the quiet, local atmosphere of Aomori.

    What Is a Private Osaka Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle and Shitennoji The itinerary was to visit Osaka Castle and Shitennoji Temple, then use the remaining time to see nearby spots. At Osaka Castle, the guests took a good look inside the main keep as well, staying for about an hour. However, one of the guests was not feeling well and had to visit the restroom several times. In the end, some of the guests returned to the hotel after only Osaka Castle, while I took the rest to Shitennoji Temple, Tennoji Park, and the Chausuyama area, where they were able to take photos at scenic spots. After the tour, I received a message saying they were feeling a little better, which was a relief. The guests were all very pleased.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and Fushimi Inari with a Licensed Guide The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They had already traveled through Tokyo and Hakone, arrived in Kyoto the previous day, and were scheduled to head home the next day. Since they wanted to see the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove but were also interested in Fushimi Inari Taisha, I adjusted the itinerary slightly and took them not only to Arashiyama but also to Fushimi Inari Taisha. In addition to the bamboo grove, they very much enjoyed the Okochi Sanso Garden, which was relatively uncrowded. They seemed very interested in aspects of Japanese society that differ from their home region, and we had a lively conversation about topics such as the declining birthrate and differences in the education systems. They were amazed by the Senbon Torii at Fushimi Inari Taisha. As it was their final day, they wanted to go shopping for souvenirs, so we wrapped up the tour a little early, but I believe they enjoyed themselves.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private Kyoto Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report Featuring the Gion Hanamachi Art Museum The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. When the guide booking was made, it was listed as three adults, which was a surprise. When traveling with an infant, it would be helpful to note "infant 1," as having a child seat is also safer. The Gion Hanamachi Art Museum had just opened in May. Since ticket sales begin at 11:00, I had the guests view the exhibits at the Kanji Museum while they waited, and I went alone to purchase the museum admission tickets and the Kyomai (Kyoto dance) viewing tickets. Considering the itinerary, I obtained Kyomai viewing tickets for 14:20. After purchasing the tickets, we visited Kennin-ji Temple. For lunch, on the driver's recommendation, we enjoyed udon at "Nishio Yatsuhashi no Sato," where a Japanese-style room was available. After lunch, we visited Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Finally, at the Hanamachi Art Museum, the guests enjoyed about 15 minutes of Kyomai and the exhibits on the hanamachi districts. They were very satisfied with the day's itinerary.

    I am an experienced guide, who live in Osaka. I have been a Government-Licensed Guide in English since 2018. I have already guided a lot of tourists overseas in Kansai Area, that is, in the vicinity of my prefecture, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Himeji. I am especially good at guiding in Kansai Area with sufficient knowledge of history, culture and transportation. I have guided people ranging from a small group of one or two to a group of 20-50 people in a big bus, that is, a coach. I like delicious food, because Osaka is a city of Kuidaorre, which means that people in Osaka love to eat and never spend too much money on food. Therefore, as an Osakan, I will do my best to explore restaurants which serve most delicious foods in wherever I take to my guests.
